If You Like Gather Jesus 12 Disciples – Davido Reacts As Akpabio, APC Governors Storm Osun

0

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke popularly called Davido has reacted to the presence of top All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and governors in Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.

The APC leaders and some governors were said to have descended on Osogbo, the state capital, on Wednesday for the party’s last mega rally as it steps up its campaign to wrest the state from the PDP.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda and more than 10 governors elected on the platform of the ruling party attended the meeting.

Among those who arrived in Osogbo were the Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, the Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani.

The party’s leaders have expressed confidence that the APC will win the Saturday’s election and take over the Osun State Government.

Former Governor of Osun State and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, welcomed the APC leaders to the state in a post on his official X account.

Davido later replied to Oyetola’s post, and dismissed the possibility of the APC winning the election.

The singer, using a biblical reference, mocked the large gathering of APC leaders and governors for the campaign.

Davido said even if all 12 disciples of Jesus would come together it would not change what he expects to be the outcome of the election. He repeated his prediction that the APC would lose the election for the third time.

“If you like gather Jesus 12 disciples o ma LULE for the 3rd time” the singer wrote on social media.

State Police: Presidency Announces Deadline for Public Input

0

The Presidency has announced that public submissions on the proposed National Policing Bill will close at 5pm on Thursday, August 13, 2026, as consultations continue over the planned establishment of state police.

It was reported that the Chief of Staff to the President and Chairman of the Presidential Working Group on the National Policing Bill, Femi Gbajabiamila, disclosed this on Wednesday.

Gbajabiamila said the consultation was designed to draw on the experiences and professional expertise of Nigerians, particularly on questions surrounding political interference, police misconduct, independent oversight and intelligence-sharing between federal and state police services.

He stressed that the public consultation would not replace the constitutional role of the National Assembly, which would still have the power to scrutinise, amend, reject or pass the Bill when it is formally transmitted.

Gbajabiamila said the debate over state police should not be reduced to a choice between more effective local policing and protection against political abuse.

“For too long, the debate has been framed as a choice between effective local policing and protection from political abuse. Nigeria needs both,” he said.

“We can bring policing closer to the people while building strong national standards, independent oversight and firm safeguards for every citizen.”

He urged Nigerians to submit proposals on how police services could be insulated from political interference, who should investigate serious misconduct and how federal and state formations should share intelligence across jurisdictional boundaries.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives acknowledged concerns that governors could misuse state police against political opponents, protesters, journalists and minority communities.

He said such fears were legitimate and must be addressed in the design of the law.

“Proximity does not guarantee justice. The concern that governors might use state police against political opponents, minority communities or dissenting voices is serious and must be answered in the design of the law,” Gbajabiamila said.

According to him, state police services should exercise lawful authority within their jurisdictions while remaining subject to the Constitution, human rights standards and the rule of law.

“The law must protect citizens regardless of who holds office. It must protect opposition parties, peaceful protesters, journalists and minority communities,” he added.

“It must make unlawful orders easier to resist, misconduct easier to investigate and political interference harder to hide.”

Gbajabiamila said the proposed National Policing Bill would establish minimum standards covering recruitment, vetting, training, remuneration, pensions, equipment and professional conduct.

It would also contain provisions on use of force, complaints, discipline, independent oversight, intelligence sharing and cooperation between federal and state police services.

He said proper recruitment, training, equipment and supervision would be necessary to ensure that state police formations operated professionally.

Citizens, he added, must also have access to credible complaint and accountability mechanisms.

Gbajabiamila explained that Section 214 of the Constitution currently provides for only one police force, the Nigeria Police Force. Consequently, establishing state police would require a constitutional amendment.

He said both chambers of the National Assembly had already approved proposed constitutional changes providing for a Federal Police Service and State Police Services, but stressed that the process was not yet complete.

The amendments would still have to be transmitted to the 36 state Houses of Assembly and secure the approval of at least 24 before being sent to the President for assent. Until that process is completed, he said, state police remained only a proposal.

Gbajabiamila also clarified that passage of the constitutional amendment and the National Policing Bill would not automatically create police services in every state.

“Each state that chooses to establish a service will still need its own enabling law, institutions and funding,” he said.

“It must also meet the national conditions for operation before its officers can begin policing.”

States that are not ready to establish their own police services, he added, would continue to be served by the Nigeria Police Force.

LaLiga: ‘It’s done, you’re finished’ – Ex-Man United star, Quinton Fortune warns Flick over Mourinho

0

Former Manchester United player, Quinton Fortune has warned Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick about the challenges of José Mourinho in the next 2026-27 season.

The Portuguese coach is gearing up for his first season with Los Blancos, after being appointed by the club this summer.

Fortune spoke with Mourinho about this year’s El Clásico encounters between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

He told Tribal Football: “Flick should be wary of the Real Madrid coach’s mind games. “He has to be careful not to be played by the mind games of Mourinho.

“Hansi Flick is a calm character, and I think he already knows what’s coming now that José Mourinho is back at Real Madrid,” he said. If he lets Mourinho get into his head then it’s finished. It’s finished. If Mourinho finds a way in, You’re finished.

“Flick is a good manager but Mourinho is one of the best in the world in terms of psychological warfare. And he has enough talent inside his squad to be able to challenge Barcelona properly on the pitch.

Mourinho will try to take the focus off his players while trying to get under Barcelona’s skin, creating diversions and putting all the pressure on Flick and his side. “This will be a huge test for them.”

Since taking over at La Blaugrana in summer 2024, former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has generally been a success. He has been particularly brilliant in El Clásico, winning six of seven meetings with Real Madrid in all competitions.

Mourinho will be asked to wrestle back supremacy from the Catalan giants, who have secured LaLiga titles in the last two seasons.

He wants to get back in control of the rivalry with the quality of his players, something he did well more than ten years ago.

US Deports Three Million Foreigners in 15 Months

The United States says it has had 15 straight months without any illegal migrants entering the country and has deported more than three million foreigners since President Donald Trump returned to office.

The administration made the claims in a fact sheet seen on the White House website Wednesday outlining actions it says were taken to restore the country’s immigration system.

“President Trump has fulfilled his promise to fix the immigration system, put American citizens first, and protect U.S. citizenship,” the White House said.

In his first week back in office, Trump signed an executive order declaring a crisis at the southern border and taking immediate steps to end what he described as the Biden administration’s “record-shattering illegal immigration” into the US.

“For 15 months in a row, no illegal aliens have been released into the country.

“The Trump administration has deported over 3 million illegal aliens, including thousands convicted of violent crimes,” it said.

The administration also announced it had started a “denaturalization surge” targeting people who obtained U.S. citizenship fraudulently, saying it had filed claims against 88 people who received citizenship but were allegedly ineligible.

It stated that taxpayer-funded benefits had been terminated for more than 1.4 million undocumented migrants who were improperly receiving public assistance and they had been banned from more than a dozen taxpayer-funded healthcare programs.

The White House said the administration had “strengthened visa programs and their screenings and paused visa processing for 75 high-risk countries to protect the homeland and deter overstays.”

It also said the administration had sought to purge tens of thousands of undocumented migrants from voter rolls in several states and was seeking to ensure they could not vote in US elections, which it said was a right reserved for Americans.

The administration also said it had revised the citizenship test to better evaluate applicants’ knowledge of American history, government and values and to ensure they met all eligibility criteria.

It cited two new executive orders signed on August 6, 2026 that seek to end birth tourism and clarify categories of children who are not eligible for birthright citizenship in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling in Trump v. Barbara.

Kick It Out chair Sanjay Bhandari will stand down at the end of the 2026/27 season.

Bhandari, who was appointed chair in 2019, will resign after more than seven years in the role.

In his time in office he has overseen a transformation of the organization, including enhanced financial independence and governance, the appointment of an entirely new board and leadership team and a new team structure.

Kick It Out launched its new five-year strategy, Football United, last year and Samuel Okafor was appointed chief executive in 2024.

“It has been a tremendous honor to chair Kick It Out,” said Bhandari. “Our ‘Football United’ strategy has deliberately been built on a vision of bringing together governing bodies, clubs, players, supporters, communities and partners to create lasting change. “In a world that often feels increasingly negative and divided, we are consciously seeking to strike a different tone. The new Chair will be instrumental in supporting Kick It Out to achieve that vision by leading an experienced and dedicated Board and working closely with our chief executive to represent an organization that has become one of the most respected voices for equality and inclusion in sport.

“This is an incredible opportunity for someone who believes in the power of football to unite people and wants to help shape the future of the nation’s game.

Bhandari, who has been with the charity since it was founded in 1993, was awarded an MBE in 2024 for services to football.

Kick It Out will now enter a formal process to recruit a preferred candidate by the end of December 2026.

He will work alongside Bhandari for the rest of the 2026/27 season as part of an orderly transition before formally assuming the role on July 1, 2027.

The successful candidate will be inheriting a role at a time when there are significant challenges still to be overcome around making football more inclusive and representative, both on and off the pitch, whilst tackling discrimination.

Kick It Out has established itself as a powerful voice campaigning for policy change, working with the Government, regulators and football’s governing bodies including the Premier League, EFL, FA and PFA.

The charity also runs education programs with supporters, club academies and online, while its Raise Your Game program provides development opportunities.

Kick It Out’s discrimination reporting service remains central to its work as abuse reports continue to rise.

It has also extended its reach thru a partnership with Guinness 0.0, which has seen 4,000 staff trained to spot and tackle discrimination in 900 Greene King sports bars across England, Scotland and Wales.

As part of its strategy thru to 2030, Kick It Out is targeting further growth in its education and inclusion programs, working with partners including Sky, McDonald’s Fun Football, Visit Tampa Bay and Morrisons Foundation.

JAMB Highlights Mistakes UTME and DE Candidates Must Avoid During Profile Creation

0

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has warned prospective candidates to shun the temptation of making costly mistakes while constructing their profiles for Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination or Direct Entry registration.

JAMB said a small error at the profile stage can cause major problems later in the admission process.

The Board made this known in a new advisory video issued under its “JAMB Explained” series and posted on its X handle on Wednesday.

The advisory, addressed to “fresh candidates”, highlighted errors in names and dates of birth as mistakes that could lead to problems during the admission process.

Before creating your JAMB profile to register for the UTME or Direct Entry, take some time to verify that the details such as your name, date of birth and others attached to the NIN are correct. Why?” the board asked.
It said information on candidates is collected from their records with the National Identity Management Commission and is not generated or edited by JAMB.

“This means if there is any error with your name or date of birth, JAMB cannot change it after registration,” it said.

The board also cautioned candidates on the assumption that obtaining an affidavit would automatically lead to the correction of their records with JAMB.

“Such information is the basis of our records. We need to ensure that from the beginning, the identity details of candidates are correct,” JAMB said.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to ensure that their details are accurate before creating the profile.

Africa Gains as China’s Zero-Tariff Policy Boosts Exports

0

More than 100 days after China introduced zero-tariff treatment for 53 African countries with diplomatic ties, African exports to China are expanding, while businesses across the continent are increasingly moving toward processing, packaging and higher-value production.

Since May 1, African products including avocados, apples, oranges, blueberries, wine, coffee and chili have gained greater access to the Chinese market.

Chinese customs data shows imports from Africa reached 193.8 billion yuan (28.72 billion U.S. dollars) in May and June, representing a 23.5 percent year-on-year increase.

Imports of avocados, apples and oranges rose by 130 percent, 89.6 percent and 27.9 percent respectively.

The first shipment benefiting from the policy was 24 tonnes of South African apples that entered China through Shenzhen Bay Port on May 1. Since then, products from Kenya, Zimbabwe and other African countries have increasingly appeared on Chinese supermarket shelves.

South African wine exporters have also reported renewed interest from Chinese buyers. Steffi Layer of Diemersdal Wine Estate said, “what we have seen is that importers that had imported wines from South Africa have decided to revisit the category and have shown interest again.”

She added that upcoming shipments would “absolutely” benefit from the policy because “the pricing will be more competitive than before.”

China has also expanded market access through quarantine arrangements and trade facilitation measures, allowing products such as African coffee, cashew nuts, dry chilies and wild aquatic products to enter the Chinese market more easily.

For Zimbabwe, the policy helped facilitate its first-ever blueberry shipment to China. ZimTrade CEO Allan Majuru said, “Access to China opens room for increased production, stronger cold-chain infrastructure, better packaging, more certification capacity and expanded employment along the value chain.”

Industrial Upgrade
The policy is also encouraging African producers to move beyond exporting raw materials.

In Rwanda, Fisher Global shifted from exporting dried chili to supplying higher-value pickled chili products.

General Manager Herman Uwizeyimana said, “The zero-tariff treatment has breathed new life into our chili business,” while noting that new Chinese buyers were showing interest in the company’s products.

He added, “This new venture has opened up broader markets for Rwandan chili exports and has set higher standards for our company’s product selection and quality.”

Robert Rukundo of the Horticulture Exporters Association of Rwanda said, “For Rwandan exporters, especially small and medium-sized enterprises, this (zero-tariff treatment) creates a more competitive business environment where price is no longer as significant a barrier as before.”

African coffee producers are experiencing similar opportunities. Ethiopian company Awo Coffee sends about 90 percent of its roasted products to China, while Ethiopia’s coffee industry expects China’s growing demand for specialty coffee to make the country one of its biggest export destinations.

Experts argue that the policy’s success should not be judged solely by export volumes. Paul Frimpong of the Africa-China Center for Policy and Advisory said, “The real impact (of China’s zero-tariff treatment) should not be measured only by the volume of exports during the first 100 days. We should also look at whether African businesses are improving their quality standards, packaging, certification and production capacity.”

He further stressed the importance of local processing, saying, “For Ghana, this is a major opportunity because we should not continue exporting mainly raw cocoa beans, raw cashew nuts, and other unprocessed products. We need to process, package, and brand more of these goods locally before exporting them. That will allow us to retain more value and create more jobs at home.”

African Union Chairperson and Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye similarly described the opportunity as one that could deliver “higher incomes for our products, the creation of sustainable jobs for our youth, and, above all, the development of local processing so that added value remains on the African continent.”

The policy is being presented as part of a broader China-Africa economic partnership focused on trade, industrialisation and modernisation.

Meanwhile, China’s exports of electromechanical products to Africa reached 534.11 billion yuan (79 billion dollars) in the first half of 2026, up 28.8 percent year-on-year. Around 75 percent of China’s exports to Africa consist of capital and intermediate goods that support industrial and agricultural development.

Charles Onunaiju of Nigeria’s Center for China Studies said, “What China offers Africa is not simply aid. It offers Africa an opportunity for transformation through production, industrialisation and trade.”

With expanding market access, growing African exports and increased emphasis on local processing, China’s zero-tariff policy could deepen economic ties while helping African economies capture more value from their resources and production.

15 Killed in Boat Accident in Zimbabwe

Officials said rescue operations were continuing after a boat carrying dozens of people capsized on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe on Tuesday.

The national disaster management agency in the southern African country said 77 people had been rescued.

The vessel capsized with 90 passengers and five crew members onboard, but may have been overloaded, with other reports suggesting a higher number based on the registered ticket sales. Police said.

Police said the vessel was overturned by a strong wave. Footage shared online seems to show the hull floating in the water.

Lake Kariba, on the border with Zambia, is one of the world’s largest man-made reservoirs, supporting transportation and fishing and providing vital hydroelectric power to both countries.

The Zimbabwe Civil Protection Unit, CPU, said registered ticket sales indicated that 114 adults were on board. An unknown number of children under ticketing age could also have been there, it added.

Local MP Mutsa Murombedzi posted a video on X of what she said was the boat at the start of the journey, adding that residents had been using it to travel across the lake to Kariba town, a journey approximately five hours.
“We have very hard questions that need honest answers. “The officials have to release the right number of people who were onboard,” she wrote.

The CPU said 77 passengers had been rescued so far and 15 bodies had been recovered.

It said two funeral parlors were collecting the bodies

The rescue teams, with the help of an underwater search unit, have taken those rescued from the water to Long Island, a small island on the lake.

APC Senator Fadahunsi Summoned by Police Over Alleged ‘Kill’ Threat

The senator representing Osun East senatorial district, Francis Fadahunsi, has been summoned by the Osun State Police Command over a viral threat to “kill Accord” members before the state gubernatorial election.

The police invitation, it was learnt, follows the outrage on social media over the Senator’s comments, asking supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to “kill” members of the rival Accord Party.

In a letter dated August 11, 2026 and signed by the Commissioner of Police, elections in Osun State, Samuel Etaifo Erale, Fadahunsi was asked to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Osogbo on Wednesday, August 12, at 11:00 am.

Cable said the letter invited Senator Fadahunsi to explain the circumstances of the statement said to have been made during an APC campaign in Ilesa on Tuesday.

“The invitation is based on information available to the Nigeria Police alleging that during your address at the aforementioned program, you made statements that were deemed to be threatening, inciting and intimidating in nature and the statement has already been in circulation on various electronic and social media platforms,” the letter said.

Meanwhile, Fadahunsi has explained his controversial statement about the “Kill Accord”, saying that he was talking about defeating the Accord Party (A) at the ballot box and not urging for violence.

Fadahunsi’s media office in Osogbo on Tuesday issued a statement titled, “Kill Osun Accord with Votes, Not Violence, Senator Fadahunsi Tells APC.”

The statement said the Senator’s comments were meant as a political expression urging APC supporters to vote Accord out.

The comment was described in a statement as “a call on supporters to overwhelmingly reject the Accord Party at the ballot box thru lawful, peaceful and democratic means during the August 15 governorship election.”

“To be clear, the statement of the Senator was entirely political and metaphorical,” the statement added.

Fadahunsi’s media office stated that he did not call for physical attacks on members or supporters of Accord.
