2027 Election: Philip Agbese Warns Voters Against Politicians Bearing ‘Lies’
GREAT ENONE — Political stakeholders, including Philip Agbese and Okanga, have addressed residents of Great Enone Community, urging them to be cautious about promises made by politicians as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the community engagement, Agbese used the analogy of Christmas to describe the political season, warning residents against being deceived by politicians who may make promises they cannot fulfil.
He said:
“Be wary of elections that resemble Christmas Day.
“The wife you marry during Christmas will reveal her true character in January.
“Politicians from the Broom and Umbrella associations will come bearing lies.
“They will tell you that roads they abandoned for years can be fixed in two weeks.
“They will tell you that insecurity they failed to contain can be eradicated in 74 hours.
“Do not listen to them. Do not listen to whoever they present to you.
“This is the Christmas season of their political lives.”
Agbese urged residents to look beyond campaign promises and assess political candidates based on their records, credibility and ability to deliver on their commitments.
He also stressed the importance of maintaining regular communication between political representatives and the people, saying leaders should be willing to listen to criticism and respond to concerns raised by their constituents.
“Because every day we meet is going to be a family meeting.”
He added:
“When we have an opportunity to tell ourselves where I am not doing well, please, when I call, come in.”
Agbese further encouraged residents to document promises made by political leaders and bring attention to commitments that had not been fulfilled.
“If we have promised anything that we have not fulfilled, please write it.”
He said such issues should be considered in subsequent plans and campaign commitments.
“When we put that out for the campaign, the issues must be addressed.”
Agbese Promises Package for New Labour Party Members
The political engagement also featured the reception of new members who had defected to the Labour Party.
Agbese promised a support package for the new entrants and assured them that their decision to join the party would be recognised.
He said the package had been prepared and urged those present to ensure that it reached all the new members.
“We have prepared something small, which I leave out here. Make sure it gets to everybody, please. Very small. Manage it for us.”
The engagement provided an opportunity for political leaders and residents to discuss grassroots participation, accountability and the expectations of the community ahead of the 2027 elections.
Agbese urged the people to remain united and actively participate in political discussions while carefully evaluating the promises and records of politicians seeking their support.
