Following his loss of the ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has withdrawn from the 2027 governorship race in Oyo State.
Adelabu announced his withdrawal in a statement personally signed by him on Thursday, titled, ‘APC Nomination Process in Oyo State: Closing the Contest, Not Conceding the Injustice’.
His decision to quit the race, the former minister said, did not mean he was accepting the alleged injustice that characterized the party’s governorship primary in the state.
He partly attributed his decision to deep thinking and a strategic re-assessment of recent developments in the party and the way forward.
The former minister went on a short vacation abroad to relax from the ‘intensity and challenges’ of the last few months before returning to consult with party leaders and supporters, he said.
He said he met party leaders and some of his supporters across the state on his return, adding that the meetings reviewed concerns raised by party members, aspirants and stakeholders. He said the concerns also involved the nominations for the Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.
“We agreed that the absence of publicly declared and verifiable results has understandably raised serious concerns about the transparency, credibility and integrity of the nomination process.
“We also affirmed that substantial documentary materials, authenticated collation records and video evidence are available which, in our considered view, raise serious questions about aspects of the process and the eventual outcomes,” Adelabu said.
