Minister unveils top health-care social innovations and solicits private-sector support

0

The goal of the unveiling of top social innovation in Abuja on Monday was to create an enabling environment for social innovation by increasing evidence and its uptake, as well as fostering collaboration across all stakeholders and encouraging a culture of Nigerians solving their health challenges using the Nigerian formula.

The minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, who performed the unveiling ceremony, expressed delight at the development and promised that the ministry would provide the necessary support and collaboration to ensure the initiative’s success.

The event was organized by the Social Innovation in Health (SIHI) Nigeria hub, which is a branch of the SIHI global network and is based at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. SIHI is a World Health Organization (WHO) project with multiple international partners.

Dr. Onu emphasized that the innovation is a ray of hope because it demonstrates the country’s ability to find innovative solutions to societal problems, particularly in the health sector. He pledged that the ministry, under his leadership, will work to ensure the success of any effort to transform the nation’s economy into one that is knowledge-based and innovative, and that “we will continue to support you as you encourage creativity and innovation among our people.”

He praised Nigeria for being one of the few African countries to host the SIHI hub.

“The top three social innovations in health that emerged from the various selection stages put in place by SIHI Nigeria in collaboration with the FMSTI are remarkable because they are all home-grown solutions,” he continued. When further developed, this could make a significant contribution to improving health care delivery in the country as well as export to other countries.

”We have shown that we have the capacity to find solutions to many of our problems,” he said, praising Nigeria’s ingenuity, creativity, inventiveness, and resourcefulness. We can no longer rely on people from other countries to solve our problems. We have everything we need to come up with our own solutions to our problems.

Many of the things we import into the country can now be produced locally, with the declaration that “we have the men, we have the women, and we have the materials to get it done.” This is the most effective way to create a self-sufficient and great nation that can provide enough jobs for citizens, combat poverty, hunger, disease, and illiteracy, and generate wealth for both the people and the country. This is precisely what the SIHI Nigeria hub at Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, as well as all of the outstanding innovators here, aspire to,” the minister concludes.

Stakeholders’ goodwill messages were read out at the unveiling ceremony. Senator Uche Ekwunife, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Science, Technology, and Innovation, praised the initiative and urged the team to make it a success.

She urged the government and health-sector stakeholders to prioritize primary health care and ensure that health-care dollars are realistic, noting that the essence of governance is for Nigerians to benefit from government programs and innovations.

The Director-General of NIPRD, Dr Obi Adigwe, Vice Chancellor of Nile University, and President of the Nigeria Academy of Science, Prof Eka Braide, were among those who delivered goodwill messages. Professor Charles Esimone, vice chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, had earlier welcomed attendees to the unveiling ceremony and expressed hope that it would meet its goals.

In April 2020, WHO awarded a grant to Nnamdi Azikiwe University and the University of Ghana’s School of Public Health (both new generation hubs) to collaborate with Makarere University (a first generation hub) to disseminate social innovation in health in Africa, as well as to crowdsource for social innovation in health in the university and across the country.

To accomplish this, the team is collaborating with Nigeria’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, as well as other key health actors and innovators, non-governmental organizations, and the public and private sectors, to identify and promote social innovations in health.

PDP’s crisis worsens as the court prevents Secondus from running for Chairmanship

0

Efforts by elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to quell the leadership crisis may have been in vain, as a High Court in Rivers State issued an interim injunction yesterday, preventing Uche Secondus from continuing as Chairman of the party pending the hearing and determination of a suit challenging his continued stay in office.

Secondus has been ordered to stop posing as a member of the PDP due to his suspension from the party, according to the ruling.

However, the embattled chairman of the main opposition party has stated that if taken to court, he and the party will defend themselves.

The orders were issued by Justice O. Gbasam of the Degema Division of a High Court in Rivers State, sitting in Port Harcourt, while ruling on an exparte application filed by some PDP chieftains in the state.

Ibeawuchi Alex, Dennis Amadi, Emmanuel Stephen, and Umezirike Onucha were the plaintiffs in the PHC/2183/CS/2021 suit, while Secondus and PDP were the first and second respondents, respectively.

Mr. H. A. Bello, who argued the exparte application on behalf of the plaintiffs, urged the court to grant his clients’ reliefs in the interest of justice, while also requesting that the matter be heard during the court’s vacation due to the urgency of the case.

The prayers included a request that Secondus be barred from serving as the PDP’s national chairman while on suspension from the party.

In a brief ruling, Justice Gbasam granted the applicants’ requests for relief and issued an order “restraining the 1st defendant from parading himself as a member of the 2nd defendant or National Chairman of the 2nd defendant or performing the functions of National Chairman of the 2nd defendant or calling, attending, or presiding over any meeting of the 2nd defendant or any committee of the 2nd defendant or performing the functions of National Chairman of the 2nd defendant or calling, attending, or presiding over any meeting

He was also told not to “call for any ward, local government, or state congresses of the second defendant, or set up committees for such congresses, or participate in any 2nd defendant activity whatsoever, while on suspension as a member of the 2nd defendant, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction.”

The restraining order, as well as all other orders, as well as the originating summons and motion on notice, will be served on Secondus by substituted means, according to Justice Gbasam.

The order and all other court documents were to be pasted on the gate of Secondus’ residence at number 1, William Jombo street, old GRA, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as well as published in a national newspaper, according to the ruling.

The court held that the court processes had been properly served on Secondus after being pasted at his home and published in a national daily.

The failure of Secondus’ National Working Committee (NWC) to hold a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting recently directed by the PDP’s expanded Board of Trustees (BoT) meeting could be linked to the latest court action against him.

At a recent meeting to resolve the standoff between Secondus and some aggrieved PDP leaders, including Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, the BOT decided that Secondus should remain in office and that a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting be called to elect the members of the party’s National Convention, which is set for the end of October, 2021.

Despite the fact that the NWC quickly advanced reasons why the NEC could not hold, litigation was not anticipated.

There were two opposing groups before the BoT’s extended meeting: those plotting Secondus’ removal and those who wanted him to stay until the end of his term in December 2021. The meeting’s purpose was to discuss the party’s impending implosion as a result of the intractable leadership crisis.

Previously, the PDP had been rocked by the defection of three governors – David Umahi of Ebonyi State, Ben Ayade of Cross River State, and Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State – as well as members of the National Assembly elected on its platform. They’ve all switched allegiances to the APC (APC).

The party’s mood was deteriorating, and the PDP had lost 17 senators, which was causing concern. The party’s representation in the House of Representatives had also decreased. As a result, some members believed that sacking the Secondus-led NWC was the best way to resolve the crisis.

However, the crisis took a turn for the worse when seven national deputies resigned in a single day. Deputy National Financial Secretary, Deputy National Organising Secretary, Deputy National Legal Adviser, Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Deputy Woman Leader, and Deputy National Auditor were among those who resigned.

The resignation ruffled NWC feathers, and it was like a joke gone too far, as it elicited a variety of reactions from stakeholders. The first was the PDP governors’ forum, which summoned a meeting of its members to resolve the crisis, led by Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the governor of Sokoto State.

Senator Walid Jubrin, Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, called an expanded board meeting in response to a series of meetings and a determination to resolve the crisis in order to save the party.

Some speculated that the new wave of crisis that has engulfed the PDP was linked to speculations that Secondus might seek re-election at the national convention in December. However, some stakeholders, including Secondus’ governor, Wike, were not pleased.

In the long run, Walid Jibrin, the chairman of the BoT, identified numerous problems in the PDP that required immediate attention.

There was a lack of cohesion within and among major stakeholders, which necessitated the intervention of the BoT, the party’s highest advisory body.

Jibrin urged his fellow PDP members to seize the moment, but he stressed that the party must first get its house in order by beginning proper preparations for the upcoming elective convention, which will elect the party’s national leaders, who will lead the party in the 2023 general election.

He warned that the PDP’s expected electoral success should not be sacrificed on the altar of personal interests and unnecessary in-house fighting aimed at sabotaging the party’s goals, noting that the PDP ruled for 16 years in contrast to the current government’s total failure, which he claimed was marked by incompetence and total insecurity.

Jibrin’s perspective was shared by other stakeholders and members of the BoT. It was a brilliant move that ultimately dictated the meeting’s terms of engagement.

Senator David B. Mark, Prof. Jerry Gana, Dr. Iyochia Ayu, Alhaji Sule Lamido, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Senator Ayim Pius Ayim, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, Dr. Ibrahim H. Dankwambo, Senator Helen Esuene, Hajiya Zainab Main

Even before the meeting began, the plot to assassinate Secondus and members of the NWC was foiled by these interventions.

The BoT members, NEC members, and other PDP stakeholders built a bridge over the troubled waters by taking that critical step toward a resolution.

Unfortunately, some PDP members had already taken a hardline stance, and it was only a matter of time before the simmering cauldron of repressed rage erupted in raw emotions.

One of the first actions taken by the BoT was to convene an emergency meeting with PDP governors, the NWC, and other key stakeholders.

Those who wanted Secondus to stay in office until the end of his term argued that removing him from office without cause would leave a bad taste in the mouth. However, his opponents left him with one foot in the doorway of opportunity. They wanted him to publicly abandon his bid for a second term.

A group led by Wike was formed to enforce this position. Unfortunately, this highlighted how much Secondus’ removal meant to the Rivers governor, prompting him to attend the BoT meeting for the first time.

With Jibril’s agenda insisting that the meeting was critical to the party’s survival in 2023, it was clear that the meeting would not fulfill the anti-Secondus elements’ agenda.

When given the chance, a visibly relieved Secondus thanked the BoT for intervening and giving him the chance to live another day. He praised the party’s reconciliation committee, which is led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and mentioned how he attempted to resolve the issue of the NWC deputies resigning.

He added that the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanism was quickly activated to ensure that the issues did not escalate to the point where the party’s reputation was jeopardized.

After more than four hours, the meeting came to a close. Senator David Mark, who spoke at the meeting, said the governors, members of the BoT, members of the National Assembly, all members of the NWC, former governors, and former ministers agreed to form a committee to address the issues holistically.

When Diran Odeyemi, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary and one of the officers who had tendered their resignations, withdrew his resignation and pledged to work with the Secondus-led NWC to ensure a successful national convention, it was a sign that the crisis was about to be resolved.

N-Power Batch C is kicked off by the FG

The federal government announced the start of N-Power Batch C across the country on Monday, with 510 people enrolled in the first stream of the youth empowerment program.

Sadiya Umar Farouq, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, who kicked off the event in Abuja, said another 490 people would be enrolled in Batch C, stream 2 at a later date.

She said non-graduate beneficiaries were entitled to N10,000.000 monthly stipends for a period of 9 months under the Batch C program, while N-Power volunteers (graduates) were entitled to a monthly stipend of N30,000 for a period of one year.

”All beneficiaries are given an appropriate starter pack for their trade to enable them to begin their businesses in their chosen trades,” she explained.

“To ensure fairness, transparency, and credibility in the recruitment process, the N-Power program used an online application and selection strategy.

“In June 2016, when the application portal was first opened, the program began in the Office of the Vice President. Over 750,000 applications were received, with 200,000 beneficiaries being chosen for the first batch, known as Batch A.”

“In June 2017, the portal was reopened, and over 2.5 million applications were received, with another 300,000 volunteers being accepted into the program as Batch B.

“Permit me to express my gratitude to His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his administration’s unwavering efforts to eradicate poverty in our country, as well as for supporting and sustaining the National Social Investment Program. With the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the relocation of the NSIP from the OVP to the Ministry, it is worth noting that Mr. President has graciously approved the expansion of the NPower program from 500,000 to 1,000,000 beneficiaries, allowing more young people to benefit.

“In June 2020, the portal was reopened based on this approval, and over 6 million new applications were received. As part of the NPower Batch C, 1,000,000 beneficiaries will be selected. Batch C is split into two streams. There are 510,000 beneficiaries in Stream C1 and 490,000 beneficiaries in Stream C2. A total of 450,000 people have been chosen to benefit from the graduate component of Batch C1, while 60,000 people will benefit from the non-graduate component.”

Farouq stated that the “Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development is dedicated to ensuring that the strategic objectives of all Social Intervention Programs are met.”

“Some innovations have been introduced into the N-Power selection and payment processes, such as the creation of the National Social Investment Management Systems (NASIMS), as well as partnerships with key MDAs such as the NYSC, UBEC, NPHCDA, and NOA, to name a few, which the Ministry is leveraging to effectively implement its interventions.

“To ensure that communication challenges are addressed, particularly in relation to limitations on information flow and internet access across the country, and in order to provide accessibility to all target program applicants and beneficiaries, the Ministry has decided to provide access to information via a USSD code,” says the statement. In accordance with the foregoing, the USSD short code *45665# has been secured through integration to provide the necessary connectivity and technical support for the provision of information services to our beneficiaries,” she added.

INEC: The online CVR exercise has surpassed 2 million participants

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that the commission’s ongoing online Continuous Voter Registration exercise has attracted over two million (2m) new registrants.

In a statement signed on Monday, Festus Okoye, the INEC national commissioner in charge of Information and Voter Education, stated that the number of new registrants has surpassed two million since the online registration portal was launched on June 28, 2021.

“As of 7 a.m. today, Monday, August 23, 2021, the number of new registrants is 2,215,832,” Okoye said.
The commission also stated that the ongoing physical exercise, which is now in its fourth week, has captured approximately 430,368 people.

The Commission’s website and social media platforms have been updated to include a detailed breakdown of the online and completed registrations by state/FCT, age, gender, occupation, and disability.

“Once again, the Commission urges all eligible citizens who have not yet registered to take advantage of this opportunity.

The Commission would like to emphasize that those who have already registered as voters do not need to do so again. Those who wish to transfer to another location to vote in future elections or who have issues with their Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) may apply for resolution online or in person.” INEC made a point.

Unknown gunmen in Kogi kill two police officers and injure others

0

Unknown gunmen from neighboring Ekiti State are said to have killed two police officers at a checkpoint in Kabba, the capital of Kogi State’s Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area.

According to an eyewitness, the incident occurred at the Origa checkpoint on the Kabba-Iyara road around 5 p.m. on Monday.
Suspected criminals in a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) opened fire on two police officers when they flagged them down for a routine check, according to witnesses.

Three other police officers who managed to flee suffered various injuries as the fleeing robbers shot sporadically to clear the way for their escape.

The officers involved were from the Kabba police B divisional headquarters, which was recently established.

Meanwhile, the robbers were said to be coming from the Ekiti axis and were likely on their way to Abuja via Kabba when the incident happened.

The bodies of the two police officers were reportedly deposited in the morgue of Kabba’s General Hospital, while the injured were reportedly treated at a private hospital.

DSP William Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), could not be reached at the time of filing the report.

Nigeria does not require tribal or religious bigot in 2023 – Governor Tambuwal

0

Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Governors Forum (PDP-GF) and Governor of Sokoto State, has stated that Nigeria requires a leader with a broad worldview, rather than a parochial and provincial politician or a tribal, religious bigot.

Tambuwal also stated that the country requires an incorruptible leader who recognizes that the best way to combat corruption is to lead by example and to build strong institutions that can withstand shocks and manipulations.

These were the Governor’s words at Richard Akinnola’s birthday lecture in Lagos yesterday.

Tambuwal said that Nigeria needs a leader who understands modern technology, not a parochial and provincial politician, when speaking on the topic of “Security Challenges in Nigeria and Their Implications for Sustainable Development.”

To combat insecurity, the Sokoto State Governor stated that intelligence gathering and surveillance are required so that law enforcement agents can be proactive and reasonably predict potential crime with near-perfect accuracy rather than reactive.

Without a doubt, the threat of insecurity necessitates a new approach based on credible intelligence gathering, as he stated.

Tambuwal, a lawyer by profession and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, said at the well-attended ceremony,

“Nigeria requires a versatile leader. Someone who has friends and associates from all over the United States. Not a parochial and provincial politician, but a leader with a global perspective.

“We require an incorruptible leader who recognizes that the best way to combat corruption is through personal example as well as the establishment of strong institutions capable of withstanding shocks and manipulations.

“Nigeria requires a leader who is up to date, who understands the modern demands of technology in resolving societal issues.

“Yes, Nigeria requires a builder of bridges, a compassionate leader who understands the needs and aspirations of the poor and needy. A leader whose words matter and who can be trusted. Indeed, a courageous leader,” he said.

“An accountable leader who can be trusted to face the challenges of nationhood squarely without sentiments or pandering to interests that are inconsistent with national goals,” the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum continued.

Tambuwal went on to say that Nigeria requires visionary leadership imbued with patriotism, which will go a long way toward changing the narrative of insecurity in the country.

He went on to say that the country needs a leadership that is nationalistic, not tribalistic, and that promotes national unity rather than disunity.

“A Nigerian leader is one who will regard Nigeria as his constituency, not his state, tribe, religion, or region,” he says. A visionary leader who motivates the nation to achieve greatness.

He called for “a leadership that galvanizes, mobilizes, and guides Nigerians on the path to long-term peace, progress, and development.”

Tambuwal reasoned that such a leader would not regard the people of any part of the country as conquered.

“A leader with these qualities will reach out to everyone and ensure that the insecurity that is ravaging the country is put to rest,” he says.

“There is no quick fix or magic wand for reducing insecurity other than deploying relevant tools of good governance, proper technology, necessary military and police equipment, a well-trained and properly compensated manpower, and lowering tensions in the country through the enthronement of a government that serves all, not just a section or group.

“A leader who understands the importance of reorganizing our security and governance structures.

“Finding such a leader is a task for all of us, and I challenge you all today to find and support such a leader in 2023 so that Nigeria can resume its long journey back to peace, security, and prosperity for all of her citizens,” he said.

Good governance, according to the governor of Sokoto State, is another major panacea for reducing insecurity in Nigeria.

“This necessitates deliberate steps by government at all levels to ensure good and accountable governance that is focused on the needs of the people,” he said.

“Examples and researches have shown that with good governance and strong institutions, most people are less likely to become enemies of the state, or embrace, crime when they can see development and opportunities,” Tambuwal said, adding that the socio-economic development factor is also important to peace and security.

He also stressed the importance of eradicating corruption and establishing social and economic justice, saying, “Corruption causes both social and economic problems.” It is one of the major causes of wealth inequity and inequality among people.

“As a result, there is dissatisfaction, frustration, and agitation, which leads to insecurity. The fight against corruption must be waged with a variety of weapons.”

The Governor recalled that the creation of the EFCC and ICPC from the Nigeria Police Force by the PDP Government was intended to be a response to the threat of corruption, with the agencies expected to focus solely on fighting corruption and especially economic crimes.

PGF DG challenges APC , PDP in 2023: Don’t take Jega’s claims lightly

0

Salihu Moh. Lukman, the Director General of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), has challenged the country’s two major political parties, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to take seriously the recent attack by former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), professor Attahiru Jega.

In recent interviews, Jega claimed that both the PDP and the APC have failed Nigerians, and that Nigerians should not “put their trust in the parties again.”

Lukman, in a statement titled ‘Nigerian Politics and the Fallacy of the PDP – APC Semblance (Part one)’, said that while he lacks evidence to declare the ruling APC a failed political party, his statement should not be taken lightly, given that he is not only an internationally respected political scientist, but also a theoretician and practitioner whose commi

Lukman, who claimed that the PDP’s response through its Spokesperson, Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, and the APC’s National Secretary, Sen. James Akpanudoedehe, failed to refute Prof. Jega’s claim that the PDP and APC have failed Nigerians, challenged the political parties to wake up and refute Prof. Jega’s claims ahead of the 2023 elections.

“What exactly is the evidence that led Prof. Jega to such a conclusion?” he asked. Prof. Jega did not provide any specific validation of his conclusion in the BBC interview. One might be tempted to conclude, after listening to and reading the interview script, that Prof. Jega spoke more like a politician in that interview than the thorough scholar he is.”

The Director General expressed concern about how the PDP and APC dismissed Jega’s statement, with the PDP questioning his credentials as a political science professor, calling it one of the dangers of Nigeria’s one-dimensional politics.

“Recall how, sadly, under the APC’s immediate past leadership, a particular person was disqualified from running for election as a party candidate based on a false allegation that his academic qualification was forged,” Lukman said. The APC leadership proceeded to disqualify the person despite the fact that the institution’s Registrar made a public statement confirming that the person graduated from that institution.

“Perhaps it needs to be acknowledged that politicians’ proclivity to switch parties, particularly from the PDP to the APC and vice versa, is frequently cited as justification for semblance. There’s also the issue of ideology, which many argue is lacking in Nigerian politics and is yet another reason why the two parties are so similar.

While it is important to acknowledge the validity of these criticisms, this does not mean that both parties are the same and have failed Nigerians, as Prof. Jega claims. Given that Prof. Jega granted the BBC interview as a member of the People Redemption Party (PRP), it is critical that he be assisted in moving beyond the seductive appeal of one-dimensional politics by investigating the evidence for both the APC and the PDP’s credentials as ruling parties.

“Recognizing that one-dimensional politics encourages politicians in Nigeria to resent criticisms, which is why Prof. Jega has been accused of being unaware of ‘significant milestones,’ politicians, particularly from leading political parties, must be taught that their opinion does not prove success or failure. People who criticize both the PDP and the APC are dismissed, highlighting the problem of intolerance that Nigerian democracy must overcome.

Intolerance causes a significant disconnect between politics and knowledge. As a result, many politicians will continue to develop inferiority complexes, as evidenced by their use of crude language in response to criticism. Either it will be a case of’ignorance,’ as Mr. Ologbondiyan and Sen.

As Dr. Chris Ngige will refer to criticism of his management of industrial relations in the country, or Comrade Adams Oshiomhole’s reference to people critical of his leadership approaches as “cowards and pigs,” Akpanudoedehe will argue that it is “nauseating, malicious, and nonsensical.” Loyal party members will be intimidated and forced to submit if politicians take a negative attitude toward criticism. Nigerian politics needs to be reshaped so that leaders can accept criticism.

“With this in mind, Prof. Jega, the politician, ran the risk of being distinguished from Prof. Jega, the scholar. Prof. Jega the politician should be the same person as Prof. Jega the thorough scholar, theoretician, and practitioner of evidence-based politics if Nigerian partisan politics is to benefit at all from Prof. Jega’s wealth of knowledge and experience. He Lukman, who highlighted various achievements of the APC, particularly in the areas of social investment, infrastructure, and agriculture, insisted that, unlike the PDP-led government, the APC-led government is not a failure.

You Are Ignorant – GYB2PYB Tackles TSG in Yahaya Bello vs Tinubu

0

The Tinubu Support Group (TSG) has been chastised by a pro-Yahaya Bello group for a statement it made about the Kogi State governor.
In an interview, Yahaya Bello asked Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to drop his presidential ambitions.

While claiming that whatever pact Tinubu has with Buhari isn’t binding, Yahaya Bello urged the former Lagos governor to hand over power to his “children.”

The TSG, enraged by the governor’s remarks, called him a failure and a disgrace to the youths.

Bello should seek forgiveness from God and the Kogi people for his failure as governor, according to the pro-Tinubu group.

Governor Yahaya Bello to President Yahaya Bello (GYB2PYB) responded by claiming that the pro-Tinubu group was unaware of what was going on in Kogi State.

The GYB2PYB described TSG’s statement as a stain on the struggles of Nigerian youths in a statement issued by its director, Oladele Nihi.

“Our attention has been drawn to a viral report on social media by a group masquerading as Tinubu Support Group, and it is imperative that we set the records straight so that the public is aware of the realities on the ground,” the group said.

“The Tinubu Support Group’s pettiness is outrageous and abhorrent. It is a stain on the struggles of Nigerian youths who are doing everything they can to take over the country’s driver’s seat and fit into the country’s power corridors.

“One could easily forgive TSG’s director, Comrade Ibrahim’s, high level of ignorance because it’s clear he’s unaware of what’s going on in and around Kogi State.

Governor Bello, he claimed, owed workers in the state and, as a result, should not be considered for the country’s highest office.”

While describing Bola Tinubu as a product of a bygone era, the group requested that the TSG arm itself with information before attempting to sell its candidate.

According to the pro-Bello group, the governor of Kogi is not only paying workers their full salaries, but also providing grant-in-aid health insurance schemes to workers in the state.

“Governor Yahaya Bello is busy completing several road projects across the state’s three senatorial districts,” according to the group.

“The state capital is currently undergoing a massive transformation that is unlike anything seen in previous administrations.

“Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, was recently ranked as the world’s fourth fastest growing city.

“Because Kogi State is the safest state in Northern Nigeria, and one of the safest in the country, the United States designated it as a safe zone for its citizens.

“As an organization, we refuse to let people like Comr. Ibrahim and his ilk drag the country into oblivion, denying us growth by refusing to let the old fishes try new waters.

“We therefore advise that adequate research be carried out before a so-called Director General of a group supporting one of the country’s most highly decorated political icons comes out to talk low on someone’s personality, and that ejaculate without a valid backing be avoided.”

The Federal Government’s new Medium-Term National Development Plan, MTNDP, 2021-2025, is expected to be launched in October, according to Clem Agba, Minister of State for Budget and National Planning. It will include an i-monitoring system that will be integrated into government websites.

Mr Agba stated this on Monday at the start of a capacity-building workshop for Special Advisers and Technical Assistants to Ministers organized by the Konard Adeneaur Stiftung, KAS, a German foundation.

The workshop, which was co-hosted by KAS and the Ministry of Budget and National Planning, was aimed at promoting good governance.
Mr Agba stated that the Plan’s goal was to alleviate poverty by lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in ten years, while also addressing the country’s growing population.

He also mentioned that the MTNDP will be launched in October, along with an i-monitoring system that will be integrated into government websites.

He went on to say that this would allow Nigerians to post pictures of project progress in relation to the money released.

Mr. Agba emphasized that this would aid accountability and citizen participation in governance.

Nigerians, he said, would be able to learn about projects aimed at their communities and, if necessary, challenge their non-implementation.

“As you are probably aware, the Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP 2017-2020) and Nigeria Vision 20: 2020 (NV20:2020) are set to expire in December 2020, necessitating the development of successor plans.

“Specifically, the Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) 2021-2025 and the Nigeria Agenda 2050, which will replace the previous plans.

“There is a widespread belief that previous plans were created by the federal government. To dispel this notion, the ongoing planning process has been inclusive and participatory, involving both state and non-state actors.

“However, the organized private sector, civil society organizations, women’s and youth’s organizations, as well as people with special needs.

The plans are based on the government’s desire to alleviate poverty by lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in the next ten years,” he said.

Mr Agba went on to say that the exercise would also help Nigerians devise strategies to deal with the country’s rising population.

“By 2050, the country will have a population of 411 million people, making it the world’s third most populous country after China and India. “These plans will ensure economic stability, national development, and good governance.” Mr. Agba explained.

Mr Agba also praised KAS for its numerous contributions to Nigeria’s policymaking and implementation processes, noting that the training for ministerial aides is appropriate.

He also urged workshop participants to apply what they had learned in the workshop to the implementation of the National Plans for the country’s benefit.

Vladmir Kreck, KAS’s Resident Representative in Nigeria, stated that KAS was committed to assisting Nigeria’s Ministries, Departments, Agencies, Legislatures, and Civil Societies in achieving long-term democracy and governance in accordance with their mandates.
Mr Kreck, who was represented by KAS Program Manager Mr Samson Adeniran, said KAS was training Aides to Ministers because of their important role in administration and governance.

“With these workshops and capacity building, KAS hopes that all of our contributions will flow into the nation’s long-term development plan’s eventual implementation.

“As a foundation that promotes good governance around the world, we hope that our efforts will result in respect for the rule of law, transparency, accountability, efficiency, and equity,” says the foundation.

Mr Kreck stated, “All of these are what can cause nation to develop quickly.”
