Serie A: Osimhen scores 100th career goal in Napoli’s win against Sassuolo

Talismanic maskman, Victor Osimhen hit another milestone and set a Napoli record in the Partenopei’s 2-0 away victory over Sassuolo at Stadio Mapei – Citta del Tricolore on Friday night.

The Nigerian became the first Napoli player to score in 7 straight Serie A games, netting his 100th career goal in the process.

Gonzalo Higuain scored in 6 straight league games back in 2015/16 season.

Osimhen doubled the lead for the Azzurri with a screamer from a near-impossible angle in the 33rd minute. He received a long ball from central defender Matthias Olivera and overpowered two Watermelon Peel defenders then strike home a worldie leaving Napoli fans in the stadium drooling.

A 12th-minute moment of magic by the Georgian George Best, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia earlier put the visitors in front before Osimhen’s masterclass.

The Super Eagle achieved his new milestone of a 100th career goal in just 197 games.

It took Messi 210, Drogba 236, Ibrahimovic 245, and Ronaldo 301 matches to reach 100 senior goals.

With the win, Napoli are now eighteen points clear on top of the Serie A table. Osimhen also increased his goal tally to 18 in 19 appearances this campaign.

Arsenal returned to winning way as they demolish Aston Villa in a six-goal thriller at Villa Park in Saturday’s Premier League fixture.

Leicester 4-1 Tottenham: Iheanacho shines as Foxes devour Spurs

Kelechi Iheanacho dazzled in Leicester City’s big home victory over Tottenham Hotspur at the King Power Stadium, on Saturday.

The Super Eagle scored a goal and assist another to help the Brendan Rodgers’ side who are battling for top-flight survival stay clear of the relegation zone.

The former Manchester City forward set up James Maddison’s goal to put the Foxes in the lead in the 25th minute after Nampalys Mendy’s strike canceled Rodrigo Bentancur’s early goal for the visitors.

Iheanacho got on the scoresheet in the 48th minute with a sublime strike from 18 yards out.

Harvey Barne wrapped up the scoring for the hosts in the 87th minute after his initial goal was ruled offside by VAR.

Kelechi Iheanacho has now been involved in six goals in his last three games for Leicester City.

The UEFA Champions League returned on Valentine’s Day to the excitement of football lovers all over the world. The highly anticipated and long-awaited knockout stage of the elite European league finally kicked off with two matches on February 14 and two more matches the day after.

The Tuesday, February 14 blockbuster clash between French giants Paris Saint-Germain and German champions Bayern Munich at the Parc des Princes ended 0-1 with the visitors emerging victorious.

Former PSG star Kingsley Coman downed his old club with a 53rd-minute strike to secure a narrow victory for his new side.

He, however, refused to celebrate as a mark of respect for his erstwhile home.

The other Wednesday night encounter between Belgian champions, Club Brugge, and Portuguese giants, Benfica at Jan Breydel Stadium saw the visitors taking all the points.

Joao Mario broke the deadlock for Benfica from the spot in the 51st minute after a series of missed chances.

David Neres doubled the visitors’ advantage with just two minutes left to seal a 0-2 victory over the Belgians.

The UCL knockout stage action will return next week with Real Madrid traveling to Liverpool on Tuesday, February 22 as Eintracht Frankfurt play host to Italian leaders, Napoli.

On Wednesday, February 23, RB Leipzig will welcome Manchester City, and Inter Milan will host FC Porto.

Serie A: Osimhen hits double as Napoli thrash Spezia 3-0

Victor Osimhen was again on the scoresheet as Napoli pummeled Spezia 3-0 in Sunday’s Serie A fixture.

Spezia were able to withhold pressure from Napoli in the first half. But Khvicha Kvaratskhelia broke the deadlock for the visitors from the spot barely two minutes into the second half at Alberto Picco.

Osimhen doubled Napoli’s lead in the 68th minute with a sublime header, before completing his brace five minutes later after he was set up by Kvaratskhelia.

The Nigerian has now scored in five league matches in a row. He is top of the scoring chat with 16 goals in 17 Serie A appearances this season.

The 23-year-old is having his best season at Napoli since arriving at the club from Ligue 1 outfit, Lille three years ago.

Napoli who are currently top of the Serie A table with 56 points in 21 matches, will lock horns with bottom-placed Cremonese in their next league match on February 12, 2023.

Victor Osimhen named Best Foreign Athlete in Italy

Super Eagles and Napoli’s talismanic forward, Victor Osimhen has won the Stampa Estera’s Award for Best Foreign Athlete in Italy.

The former Lille striker scooped the prestigious personal laurel following his brilliant performance in the Serie A this term.

The Nigerian is currently the top scorer in the Italian top-flight with 19 goals in 23 appearances. He has 21 goals and four assists in 25 appearances in all competitions this season.

Napoli disclosed in a tweet Monday evening that its record signee, Osimhen has been named the Best Foreign Athlete in Italy.

Sharing a photo of the 24-year-old posing with his award alongside his club’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, Napoli wrote; “👏 @victorosimhen9 receives @Stampa_Estera’s prize for Best Foreign Athlete 🏅”

Bayern bolt PSG out of Champions League

German giants, Bayern Munich knocked Paris Saint-Germain out of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

Bayern defeated the French visitors 2-0 at the Allianz Arena to progress to the quarter-finals 3-0 on aggregate having won the first leg by a lone goal at the Parc des Princes.

Former PSG striker, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting put the hosts in front the 61st minute.

Joāo Cancelo sealed the victory for the Bavarians after he was set up by Serge Gnabry in the in the 89th minute.

Bayern joined Chelsea, Benfica and AC Milan as the first four teams to have advanced to the quarterfinals of the elite European competition this term.

Real Madrid, Napoli, Liverpool, Man City, Eintracht Frankfurt, RB Leipzig, Inter Milan, and FC Porto will know their fates next week.

Reigning champions, Manchester City usurped Arsenal to go top of the Premier League table after a comfortable victory in a thrilling encounter at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.

Serie A: Osimhen scoops Player of the Month award

Napoli’s talismanic forward, Victor Osimhen has won the Serie A Player of the Month award for January.

The Super Eagle defeated his international teammate, Ademola Lookman, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, Roma forward, Paulo Dybala, and Lazio midfielder, Luis Alberto to clinch the individual accolade.

Osimhen bagged five goals and an assist for table toppers, Napoli in the month under review.

The Nigerian earlier won the Serie A Goal of the Month for January with his volley against Roma.

He is now the holder of both the Goal of the Month and Player of the Month awards in Serie A.

Osimhen is the leading goalscorer in the Italian top flight with 16 goals in 17 appearances this campaign.

Serie A: Osimhen surpasses Maradona in new scoring record

Victor Osimhen has bested legendary Diego Maradona’s record of scoring 16 times the last Napoli won the Serie A as the Nigerian hit his 17th goal of the season as the Naples-based club go 16 points clear on the table.

The Spalleti’s side thrashed bottom placed Cremonese 3-0 at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Sunday. And inevitably, Osimhen was on the scoresheet again!

Georgian prodigy, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in a magical style striking on his 22nd birthday in matchday 22 of the Seria A in the 22nd minute.

Osimhen got on the scoresheet with his easiest goal of the season after tapping Kin Min Jae’s short cross.

Substitute Elif Elmas wrapped up the scoring for Napoli off captain Di Lorenzo’s assist.

Osimhen already scored 17 goals this season with 10 games still left to spare. The Super Eagle will hope to add more to his tally as Napoli continue to push for their first Scudetto since the day of Maradona.

With the goal on Sunday, the Nigerian become the first Napoli player to score in six straight Serie A games since Gonzalo Higuain in 2015/16.

Osimhen is now just eight goals away from surpassing George Weah as Africa’s all-time scorer in Serie A.

The 24-year-old could also make history as the first African to win the Italian top-flight Golden Boot as he is currently the top scorer with 17 goals in 18 league games this campaign.

No player in Europe’s top five leagues has scored more in 2023 than Victor Osimhen (8).

Osimhen was presented with his Player of the Month (January) award during the pre-match. He also won the Goal of the Month award.
