0

Bola Tinubu, the incoming president of Nigeria, has been tasked by US Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken with maintaining and enhancing US-Nigeria relations.

In a statement, US Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller said that Blinken, who spoke with Tinubu on Tuesday morning, emphasized his continued commitment to furthering the relationship between the United States and Nigeria under the new administration.

Blinken stated that the partnership between the United States and Nigeria is based on common interests and solid inter-personal ties, and that these ties should only get stronger under President-elect Tinubu’s leadership.

The two also talked about the necessity of inclusive leadership that speaks for all Nigerians, ongoing comprehensive security cooperation, and reforms to foster economic growth.

On May 29, 2023, Tinubu will be sworn in as the country of Nigeria’s new president, succeeding Muhammadu Buhari.

10th NASS: Gagdi: Tinubu unaware of APC’s endorsement of Tajudeen, Kalu

As tensions continue to rise in the run-up to the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly leadership, the Honorable Yusuf Gagdi has stated that the President-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is unaware of the All Progressives Congress, APC, endorsement of some lawmakers. This comes as Hon. Yusuf Gagdi has stated that the intrigues surrounding the inauguration of the 10th National Assembly leadership are continuing to mount.

On Tuesday, Gagdi, who is a member of the House of Representatives and represents the Pankshin/Kanam/Kanke federal constituency of Plateau State, disclosed this information to the journalists in the area.

His response was in response to the APC’s endorsement of Abbas Tajudeen and Benjamin Kalu for the positions of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Green Chamber, respectively.

Tajudeen and Kalu were appointed to their respective positions as Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives by the APC on May 8.

Gagdi and the other aspirants, who have come together to form a group that is now known as G7 and is seeking the positions, have however kicked against the APC’s choice.

He stated that, “The principal of our president-elect (Bola Ahmed Tinubu), whom I so much respect and up till today I don’t believe that what is happening today the president-elect is aware of, or that it is his idea.” Because of this, we continue to put the party to the test.

Members of the G7 group include the Hon. Muktar Betara, the Hon. Ahmed Wase who serves as the deputy speaker, the Hon. Alhassan Ado-Doguwa who serves as the House leader, Sada Soli, Aminu Jaji, Miriam Onuoha, and Gagdi.

Following the inauguration of the President-elect on May 29, 2023, the leadership of the House of Representatives and the Senate would be sworn into office in June of that same year.

Vice President Osinbajo tasks Universities in Nigeria With Funding, Marketing

0

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, the Vice President of Nigeria, has issued a challenge to the universities in the country, saying that no government in the world is capable of funding universities to the extent that is required. He also challenged the universities to work aggressively to raise funds and market their institutions.

The challenge was issued by him on Tuesday, during the opening ceremony of the Kessington Adebukunola Adebutu Foundation, which took place in the Auditorium of the University of Ibadan’s Department of Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

A Nigerian philanthropist by the name of Sir Kessington Adebutu provided funding for the construction of the auditorium.

The Vice President of Nigeria stated that it is now essential for Nigeria’s tertiary institutions to engage in aggressive marketing in order to raise the funds they need because it has become necessary due to the fact that government budgeting will not provide the funding required for the optimal operation of universities in Nigeria.

“Consequently, educational institutions that engage in vigorous fundraising are among the most prestigious in the world.

“A whole department in some of the best universities, like Harvard, Yale, Oxford, and Cambridge, as well as all universities in general, have very aggressive departments that are solely committed to marketing the university and fundraising.

“For instance, I received my education at the University of Lagos; I consider it to be my Alma Mata. But in addition to that, I earned a degree in economics from the London School of Economics at the University of London.

Even if it’s just for ten pounds, I always get a letter from the London School of Economics asking for donations of some kind, and it never fails to arrive on the first of the month.

“They are constantly engaging in aggressive marketing, and ever since I left the company in 1981, I have received this letter unfailingly on the first of every month. There is no correspondence coming from the University of Lagos. Not one.

“No one has ever approached me and said, ‘You are an alumnus. Come and donate.’ No, that has never happened. And I have no doubt that the situation is the same at the University of Ibadan. There must be a vigorous approach to marketing.

No government in the history of the world has ever been able to or will ever be able to fund universities to the extent that is required. It requires aggressive marketing in order to succeed.

“In order for the university to generate revenue, we are going to have to develop and sell a number of different programs. Universities can only remain operational thanks to financial support from private donors.

Concepts and potential answers

When Vice President Osinbajo was asked about recent happenings in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics at the University of Ibadan, he responded by saying that the work being done in the department is important because Nigeria is currently facing a great deal of difficulty in the area of human nutrition.

According to him, the serious problems that have been plaguing nutrition in the country have been brought to light as a result of his position as Chair of Nigeria’s Nutrition Council over the past three years.

“As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, poverty has worsened, and malnutrition and unhealthy dietary practices have created new dangers to the health of a large portion of our population, as well as new obstacles to their ability to be productive.

“A large number of children are malnourished, and malnutrition and food insecurity have only made it more difficult for children to learn and to acquire the skills and knowledge that are necessary to be successful in the workplace.

“However, the mental and physical retardation that results from this condition is permanent. Imagine for a moment an entire adult generation whose mental and physical health has deteriorated to the point where they are a burden on their communities and on the nation as a whole, both economically and socially.

“Consider the implications of the possibility that half of our population could be at risk of mental and physical retardation that is irreversible if we don’t get it right.

“As a result, I believe that this preeminent institution and this department have their work cut out for them.”

Foods used in therapy

The Vice President of Nigeria, Yemi Osinbajo, stated that Nigeria has the local capacity to produce therapeutic foods, also known as Ready to Use Therapeutic Foods (RUTF), which are used to treat acute malnutrition. He made this statement while pointing out that the department has been engaged in research in public health nutrition and agricultural linkages.

“We have the potential to produce enough of that RUTF for the entire continent of Africa, and the projections are that the price of ready-to-use therapeutic foods is going to increase; that with all of the food chain problems we have everywhere in the world, these prices are going to increase.”

Therefore, there is a significant consumer base there; in addition, there are significant opportunities for business and research in that location.

Osinbajo explained that ideation, research, and teaching met with philanthropy in order to create the KAAF Auditorium. Philanthropy was especially important in supporting development ideas in order to bring the facility to fruition.

However, the national chairman of the APC, Sen. Abdullahi Adamu, has hinted that the party will reconsider the issue after a string of protests by other aspirants.

Yesterday, a source within the party made the following statement: “The President-elect has promised that our governors, the NWC, and all of the aspirants will meet this weekend to resolve the issues around the zoning but his boys are busy cutting corners to undermine the integrity of the institution,” the source said.

While this was going on, it was learned and gathered that one of the candidates for the speakership position, Hon. Aliyu Betara, met with the President-elect, Bola Tinubu, at a meeting in Paris, France, and insisted on running for the position.
“The only thing that has saved the situation is the fact that our incoming speaker, Betara, who was invited to Paris to meet the president-elect, had the intestinal fortitude to tell them that he would rather fail on the floor of the House on the day of the inauguration than withdraw for Abbas.

“The irony of the situation is that if they continue to believe that the G6 can be cracked, they are only fooling themselves.

According to the source, “The guys are determined to pursue a common goal to the end unless the president-elect personally interfaces with them.”

NIMASA Opens New Abuja Zonal Office

0

The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, also known as NIMASA, recently inaugurated its brand new zonal office in Abuja.

At the event on Tuesday, the Minister of Transportation, Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, stated that the role that the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency plays in the realization of Nigeria’s economic potential cannot be overstated.

In addition, he stated that there is an urgent requirement to put in place strategic and concrete structures that, in the years to come, will result in the production of quantifiable and intangible dividends.

The minister was quoted as saying that

“As a country on the verge of an economic renaissance, with boundless opportunities in its maritime domain, the role of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency cannot be understated in the delivery of Nigeria’s economic potential,” said the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency. However, in order for us as a nation to reach our full potential, there is an urgent requirement for us to put in place strategic and concrete structures that, in the years to come, will yield dividends that are both measurable and intangible in nature.

“As we raise the flag to start the commissioning of all completed projects by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, what will become apparent for all to see is the intentionality, commitment, and focus of the federal government of Nigeria to ensure that the proper foundation is put in place so that as a people, we can continuously build towards a greater tomorrow. ”

“Today, we have gathered here to officially inaugurate the NIMASA Abuja Zonal Office, which was recently acquired. I can assure you that the acquisition of this office is not to fulfil another bureaucratic justification; rather, it is due to the responsibilities and functions that the zonal office plays in discharging NIMASA’s mandate. At the same time, there may be those who will raise questions about the need for a Maritime Administration to secure an office in Abuja, where there is no ocean. This is something that may be questioned by some individuals.

“The Abuja Zonal Office serves as the nexus point between the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Federal Ministry of Transportation, the National Assembly, and all other relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies, as well as critical stakeholders like the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL), amongst others.”

Also speaking was the Director-General of NIMASA, Bashir Jamoh, who stated that “Work place and working environment is crucial to every business enterprise. Imagine that you are living in a rented place and the landlord asks you to park out every time, when you have plenty to maintain a property and you can live in peace.” As a result, our goal is to establish NIMASA on a groundwork of reliability. This office was established in 1987, and the Abuja office continues to function as a cardinal office, meaning that it interfaces with the operations of other agencies; however, we do not have an office environment. Therefore, the most important thing is to make sure that we keep the same level of sanctity in terms of productivity so that we can increase economic growth and development.

The maritime regional bank will probably be located in this building in the near future.

Perjury: Group files ‘affidavit of urgency’ for Tinubu’s trial

Prior to May 29, the Incorporated Trustees of Advocacy for Societal Rights Advancement and Development Initiative have demanded an investigation and subsequent prosecution of President-elect Bola Tinubu.

This was stated in a “Affidavit of Urgency” in support of an ex parte motion filed with the Federal High Court in Abuja.

In its main case, the group asked the court for permission to apply for an order compelling the Inspector General of Police to investigate Tinubu’s alleged perjury regarding his alleged Guinean citizenship and to order his prosecution if found guilty.

In the motion ex parte bearing the number FHC/ABJ/CS/669/2023 and filed on May 16, 2023, ASRADI asserted that the President-elect lied under oath when he refused to provide information regarding his Guinean citizenship on Form EC9, which he submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission in order to qualify for the 2023 presidential election.

The group stated that it sought court intervention because its request to the police to investigate the matter had yielded no positive results.

As evidence, the group submitted a letter written by its executive director, Adeolu Oyinlola, to the IG on May 8.

OPC removes leader over malpractices

0

On Monday, the Oyo State branch of the Oodua People’s Congress announced that Rotimi Oguntade, the organization’s former coordinator, had been fired for engaging in organizational irregularities.

Wasiu Adeogun, the state secretary, announced this in a statement.

Adeogun added that attitudes that have the potential to harm the OPC’s reputation in the state were a factor in Oguntade’s removal, along with that of Lateef Babalola, the state commandant.

He claimed that the National Executive Council and National Coordinating Council, the organization’s two highest decision-making bodies, approved their removal, and that this decision is still in effect.

We cannot close our eyes to the numerous unethical actions of the former coordinator of the OPC in the state, he asserted.

“Comrade Rotimi Olumo’s removal as the OPC’s Oyo state coordinator is no longer news.

“The NEC/NCC decided to fire him after it became clear that he had engaged in organizational malpractices.

“He further dug his own grave by insisting that he was still the state’s OPC coordinator while raising his voice in the media that he had been fired from his position without providing any proof.

Such actions were unethical, and they only served to highlight his extreme desperation.

That is the level of his desperation, and the OPC as a socio-cultural organization will never permit such desperate people to lead the organization, according to Adeogun, who questioned why Olumo continued to parade himself as the coordinator despite being fired.

The scribe went on to say that the OPC in Oyo State is still operational and that all of the organization’s activities there are smoothly coordinated.

“OPC is not about a particular person. It is a company that has persevered through many difficulties, particularly during the lean years of the military. We therefore have a national perspective, and the organization’s leadership has effectively coordinated our activities and organizational structure, ” he said.
