Why Scams Fool Even Nigeria’s Smartest — Oyedepo Explains

0

According to Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Rotimi Oyedepo Iseoluwa, Special Assistant to the President on Financial Crimes and Public Prosecution Compliance, fraud is no longer a result of ignorance or credulity but rather of a deliberate manipulation of human nature.

An experienced prosecutor named Oyedepo clarified that fraudsters are not just criminals but also skilled manipulators who research people’s thoughts, fears, and desires before exploiting this information to trick even the most cautious and knowledgeable people. He claimed that this explains why corporate executives, professors, bankers, lawyers, and civil workers occasionally lose millions of naira to scammers.

“Being a victim of fraud is not an indication of stupidity, as is commonly believed; it is the consequence of psychological manipulation,” he said.

Oyedepo noted that the three most potent instruments in the hands of scammers are urgency, authority, and greed based on his years of experience dealing with financial crimes. Scammers frequently incite fear with communications meant to pressure victims into making snap decisions, he said. Examples include threats that an investment opportunity would be lost if payment is not made right away or that a bank account will be closed within an hour unless a PIN is received. “Reputable organizations never make you take immediate action when under duress. A message is a warning sign if it makes you feel hurried, he cautioned.

He also discussed how con artists frequently pose as representatives of banks, government organizations, or even law enforcement. By using convincing language, phony identity documents, and copied websites, they take advantage of Nigerians’ regard for institutions and titles. Instead of putting their trust in the connections listed in dubious messages, he suggested that people check on their own.

Oyedepo noted that Ponzi operators and proponents of fraudulent cryptocurrency platforms profit from the allure of investment schemes by appealing to greed and FOMO by promising irrational returns. In order to avoid being left behind while others appeared to benefit, he gave examples of people who willfully disregarded warning signs, only to have their plans fall apart and leave them in ruins.

He asserts that scammers prey on human emotions rather than stupidity, leaving even the most educated people susceptible. Regardless of education, everyone experiences pressure, anxiety, greed, and trust. That’s why no one should ever claim, “I’m too intelligent to fall for a scam,” he stated.

He provided straightforward but helpful guidance to safeguard the public: think things through before paying, never make a decision under duress, confirm facts straight from banks or government organizations, speak with reliable people, and follow your gut when something doesn’t feel right.

Because scams thrive in secrecy, Oyedepo also advised Nigerians to speak up whenever they become victims of or witness attempted fraud. In order to lessen the threat, he advised reporting to financial institutions or law enforcement.

It’s possible to be wiser than fraudsters. It is too wonderful to be true if it sounds too good to be true,” he said.

How Atiku, Peter Obi, El-Rufai Gained Upper Hand Over Tinubu — Dele Momodu

0

According to African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dele Momodu, opposition leaders have effectively outmanoeuvred President Bola Tinubu’s administration with their political strategies ahead of the general elections in 2027. These leaders include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Anambra Governor Peter Obi.
Speaking on Friday’s Sunrise program on Channels Television, Momodu asserted that the opposition coalition’s strength had shocked the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which was attempting to undermine parties by inciting internal strife.

He said that the APC’s decision to make Tinubu a consensus candidate in 2027 was a response to their concerns about a strong opposition.

He claimed that in order to destabilize parties like the Labour Party, PDP, and NNPP, government officials purposefully formed factions within them.

Momodu revealed that the organizers of the ADC foresaw these strategies and acted proactively to protect the party’s organization against outside intervention.

The media tycoon also disclosed that the opposition purposefully tricked the ruling party into believing they were siding with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) or another new platform before revealing the ADC as their focal point.

He commended ADC leaders for their tenacity, calling them “several steps ahead” of efforts to undermine the alliance.

“The ruling party is clearly nervous,” he remarked. In 2027 in particular, the ruling party does not want any serious challenge. They want a single candidate, but they don’t care too much about the governors and the others.

“The president and commander in chief are the one individual that all political parties should support, if at all feasible. When the news emerged yesterday that these men were headed to court, I wasn’t shocked.

“We are all aware of what is happening. If someone feels wronged, there is nothing wrong with them going to court. Fortunately, they should have been aware that the ADC conveners put in a great deal of effort behind the scenes to get us to where we are today.

“They were slow. They were aware that the government agents would try to impose their will, as they have done in the past with Labour, the PDP, and the NNPP, causing divisions everywhere.

However, you must honor the leaders and gentlemen who worked on ADC. They attempted to tighten every screw because they are highly skilled individuals and well-known politicians. It came as a surprise.

“You could see they were doing abracadabra over time, and everybody assumed they were going to SDP. When Nasir El-Rufai announced his intention to join SDP, everyone said, ‘Oh, it’s obvious that the opposition or the coalition will join SDP. Then we hear about ADA about a week or so before ADC. “Oh yes, we are going to use cutlass and everything,” somebody were saying. Then ADC appeared out of nowhere.

Therefore, I wasn’t surprised. I wasn’t surprised. In actuality, the genuine stakeholders, who ought to be aware of everything meant to irritate ADC, are already far ahead of that annoyance.

It is unfortunate. It is regrettable that after everything we endured during the military era, a civilian government would not want democracy to thrive. There have been many sacrifices made for this democracy, and we will never know when a few individuals may want to take it over for their own gain, which is exactly what is taking place right now.

“As you can see, PDP has been unable to advance. Furthermore, I do not even claim that the PDP is currently in a state of immobility. It’s even reversing direction. Anytime they believe they have figured out a solution, one man will take the stage, sabotage it, and publicly brag that they can utilize INEC and the courts.

Now that INEC has failed and the attempt to utilize it has failed, the courts will be the next to collapse. I also hope that the judiciary will have the courage to do so. There is nothing to fear. In order to know that their children, grandkids, and other unborn people would live in Nigeria, those in the judiciary should live for their legacy. Therefore, if you destroy Nigeria, consider all of the people who have destroyed Nigeria in the past. Where are they now?

Therefore, I will only make one request to the judiciary: resist their pressure and temptation.

ADC’s Nwosu Defends David Mark, Rejects Allegations of Secret Motives in INEC Declaration

John Chuma Nwosu, the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) candidate for governor of Anambra State, has praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for regularly re-establishing the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), which is led by David Mark.
In an interview with reporters, he denied allegations that the election official was only following a script to set up ADC for judicial ruin.

Conspiracy theories have no place in the exercise of democratic rights and obligations, he claimed.

The swift acknowledgement of the ADC’s national leadership, according to Nwosu, was a significant democratic gesture for Anambra voters. He emphasized that the development was a welcome relief during a period when the public was looking for a reliable option.

“Recall that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) was the alternative, and the Anambra people enthusiastically embraced the party,” he said.

“Now, twenty-four years later, the same APGA has grown drunk on power and has begun disparaging the populace.

However, God has recollected the state as the nation’s light. Also, INEC has shown fairness and patriotism by regularizing ADC’s leadership.

“So I can tell you that the coalition of opposition politicians who are patriotic would come together in Anambra to start the national rescue journey.”

“An ulterior motive does not exist. ADC has been established; the commission has completed its duties and all required paperwork has been completed.

“Instead of the dilapidated platforms that have been defrauding the public, voters now have a reliable substitute.

With ample space, the people of Anambra would be able to exercise their right to vote on November 8 and choose a servant leader rather than a haughty miscreant or opportunist.

All political parties will be compelled to run campaigns centered on subjects that the public finds important as a result of INEC’s actions.

Yhemolee Addresses Claims of Wife Attacking Woman in Lekki

After rumors circulated that his wife, Thaylor B, and her friends had attacked interior decorator and businesswoman Queen Akeredolu over a supposed affair, singer Yhemolee ended his quiet.
A blogger claimed that Akeredolu had been beaten, which sparked the issue.

According to Akeredolu’s statement released on Wednesday, Thaylor B, her sister, and three friends allegedly invited her to a place in Lekki on September 6 and beat her there.

According to her, the group used belts and other things on her after accusing her of having a relationship with Yhemolee. They also destroyed her belongings, including a new phone, wig, glasses, and clothes, and tore her garments.

According to Akeredolu, she had previously worked with Thaylor B on a project in June and believed they were meeting for a different project prior to the alleged incident.

In addition to denying having an affair with Yhemolee, she claimed that the issue had been brought before her attorneys and the authorities.

Yhemolee answered on Thursday via Snapchat, posting a conversation with a friend in which he reacted to the circumstance and called it humorous.

Along with posting a fan message complimenting his professional development and a video of himself and his wife on an outing, he also included a caption commemorating his nine-year career.

He wrote: “You go kpai person if you enter Cutie Julls’ comment section.” Please, bro, this is just too hilarious.

FG Reveals Requirements Schools Must Fulfill to Maintain WAEC Accreditation

0

According to a Federal Government announcement, secondary schools will no longer be permitted to administer public exams unless their instructors hold a Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) certification.
It was stated that on Thursday, Education Minister Tunji Alausa sent a memo to the TRCN registrar with a mandate.

The minister claims that the action aims to ensure that only competent instructors are employed in schools where important exams are held and to increase professionalism in the teaching sector.

Beginning in 2027, schools will only be permitted to administer tests like the WASSCE, NABTEB, NECO, and NBIAS if their instructors are TRCN-registered.

WASSCE will launch in March 2027, NABTEB in May, and NECO and SAISSCE in June 2027.

A school won’t be permitted to serve as an examination center if it doesn’t fulfill this condition.

Additionally, state governments are tasked with making sure public and private schools adhere to the directive within the next two years.

Schools must demonstrate at least 75% compliance by 2026; complete compliance is needed by 2027.

The minister referred to the National Teachers Institute (NTI), which offers three- to six-month professional courses, as a resource for educators with at least a year of classroom experience but no education degrees.

Teachers can register with the TRCN and acquire the required license after completing the curriculum.

To prevent any disruptions in the accreditation process for upcoming public exams, the federal government urged educators, schools, and other stakeholders to carefully consider the directive.

Some Politicians Are Exploiting Jonathan Against Peter Obi — Tanko

0

Ahead of the 2027 election, Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, has accused certain politicians of trying to use former President Goodluck Jonathan against Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate.
According to reports, Tanko disclosed this in an interview with Daily Trust, saying that the two leaders’ meeting on Thursday was not unexpected.

Although Tanko acknowledged both Jonathan and Peter Obi are serious candidates, the Obidients would rather the former president resign in favor of the former Anambra State governor.

“They have been friends for a long time,” he stated. The purpose of the gathering was for them to get together and talk about ways to save Nigeria.

Although they are both serious candidates, we would prefer it if Jonathan continued to be the statesman for whom he is known. He is respected, has done his best as president, and now is the moment for him to stand behind his brother.

“Keep in mind that Obi supported Jonathan throughout his presidency and was a member of his economic management team. Now is Jonathan’s moment to stand with Obi.

We are aware that some politicians are attempting to use Jonathan against Peter Obi, but we are adamant that their efforts will fail. For the sake of equity, many Nigerians think the South should be given the opportunity to elect the country’s future president. Peter Obi is the best applicant.

“It is only common sense for Obi to step down for him,” claimed one of Jonathan’s aides, who also revealed that the topic of conversation on Thursday was 2027. Achieving the ideal balance is crucial, and Obi can persuade his group of this.

Olubadan-Designate Speaks on Cause of Alaafin-Ooni Conflict

0

Yoruba kings’ ongoing rivalry have been attributed to their followers by Oba Rashidi Ladoja, the Olubadan-designate.
By starting disputed historical narratives, he claimed, supporters are frequently to blame for stoking division.

He denied that the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, will compete for supremacy during a courtesy visit from Oba Francis Alao and his wife on Thursday.

I’ve consistently argued that discord isn’t caused by the Ooni or the Alaafin. Their supporters wind up causing needless strife in their attempts to defend disparate historical narratives. They overlook the subjectivity of history, Oba Ladoja remarked.

He exhorted the Yoruba people to set aside contentious historical discussions and concentrate on harmony, peace, and group development instead.

Similar to how the Ooni cannot leave Ile-Ife to control Oyo, the Alaafin cannot leave Oyo to rule Ile-Ife. Each king has his territory,” he continued.

The Olubadan-designate used an international analogy to equate the situation to Britain’s colonial connections with America.

“The history they cite is outdated and akin to Britain colonizing America. “Today, Britain gets a cold if America sneezes,” he stated.

When considering Ibadan’s historical impact, Oba Ladoja said: “Many Yoruba kings may have ended up with names like ‘Emir’ if Ibadan hadn’t played a part. Instead than only conserving history, we should now focus on modernizing Ibadanland and advancing the Ibadan Empire’s legacy.

Appeal Court Sides With FirstBank in Legal Battle With GHL

0

First Bank of Nigeria filed an appeal against General Hydrocarbons Limited (GHL), a business associated with media entrepreneur Nduka Obiagbena, and the Court of Appeal determined that the petition had validity.

As a result, an earlier order in favor of GHL issued by a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt has been overturned by the higher court.

The Court of Appeal reversed the March 2025 decision of Justice E.A. Obile, which had revoked enforcement orders sought by the bank in January.

The decision makes the dispute’s interim position clear, but it doesn’t address the substantive problems that still need to be decided by the trial court or possibly arbitrated.

The Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, working with the Admiralty Marshal, has been appointed by the Appeal Court to guard any crude oil cargo on board the FPSO Tamara Tokoni from expropriation, waste, dissipation, and/or fraudulent disposition by any of the parties (FBN & GHL) while a lawsuit between the First Bank of Nigeria and General Hydrocarbons Limited and others is being heard and decided by the trial court and/or court of arbitration.

In granting First Bank’s appeal, a three-member panel presided over by Justice Polycap Tema Kwahar stated that the case’s interest required that the res be maintained until the High Court and an arbitration panel determined the matter.

Additionally, the court ordered that the crude oil cargo on board FPSO Tamara Tokoni be sold once the storage tanks on board FSPO Tamara Tokoni were full. The proceeds of each sale were to be deposited into a single interest-bearing escrow account in the name of the Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal while the suit was being heard in the trial court or the arbitration court.

The crude oil in the FPSO is owned by GHL and Conoil/NNPCL.

According to First Bank, legitimate GHL owes it $225.8 million.

GHL, on the other hand, vehemently disputes the allegation, claiming that FBN severed the 2021 Subrogation Agreement and that no money is owed.

When FBN selectively released some of the crude in the FPSO to Conoil and NNPC, GHL claimed in the appeal that it was abusing an ex parte freezing order. However, the Court of Appeal has now halted this, giving the Chief Registrar, with the help of the Admiralty Marshall of the Court of Appeal, full possession and control of all the crude in the FPSO.

When GHL was given lending facilities, the shipment was offered as security.

Each party was instructed to pay for their own expenses.

‘Those Set on Destroying PDP Are Still in Place’ — Dele Momodu on Jonathan

0

African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dele Momodu has denied rumors that former president Goodluck Jonathan could resume his political career and run for president in 2027 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to reports, the experienced journalist stated this on Friday during question-and-answer sessions on Channels Television’s Sunrise program.

According to Momodu, Jonathan’s return ambition is still blocked by powerful PDP factions.

Regarding the meeting between Peter Obi, the Labour (LP) presidential contender for 2023, and Goodluck Jonathan, Dele Momodu clarified that such a political gathering should not be seen as an indication of friendship.

Citing public reactions to a recent meeting between President Bola Tinubu and Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the 2023 presidential candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), he claimed that conjecture is typical in politics.

He stated, “Those who are saying that former President Jonathan will run on the PDP platform are unlikely to succeed because the people who are determined to destroy the PDP are still very much in place,” he remarked. Political meetings are common, according to those who say that he and former Governor Peter Obi are meeting. They are always in contact.

When we saw the photo of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso with President Bola Tinubu the other day, everyone assumed he was leaving the NNPP and joining the APC. Speculation is common. You shouldn’t speculate right now. You should concentrate and plan now.

Let people leave; all of this noise will go there. In a democracy, if you can’t agree on anything, hold a primary, let people vote, and then see who wins.

BREAKING: Alcohol, Drug Tests Confirm Air Peace Flight Crew Violations

0

A co-pilot and an Air Peace pilot have been charged by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) with drinking and hard drug use.
This was revealed in a preliminary report that was signed on Friday by Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, the Director of Public Affairs and Family Assistance at the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau.

It is known that when an Air Peace aircraft they flew was involved in a runway incursion at the Port Harcourt International Airport on July 13, 2025, NSIB inspectors tested the crew for the chemicals and found them to be positive.

Recall that on Sunday morning, June 13th, an Air Peace aircraft had a runway excursion upon its arrival at Port Harcourt International Airport. The plane went off the runway without getting hurt.

A significant incident involving pilots operating an Air Peace Boeing 737 aircraft with 103 passengers was revealed in the NSIB investigation.

The aircraft, carrying 103 passengers on a scheduled domestic trip from Lagos to Port Harcourt, made an unsteady final approach and landed long on Runway 21, according to the NSIB. A final halt was made 209 meters into the clearway after the plane touched down 2,264 meters from the runway threshold.

“No injuries were reported, and all passengers and crew disembarked safely.”

Following its departure from Lagos, the domestic flight made an unstable final approach before touching down on Runway 21.

The plane touched down 2,264 meters from the runway threshold, which is significantly outside the advised touchdown zone, and finally stopped 209 meters inside the clearway, according to the NSIB.
Despite the fact that everyone on board departed safely, the incident immediately sparked safety concerns.

According to preliminary data gathered by The PUNCH, the flight crew’s toxicological test findings were positive. Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in cannabis, often known as “India hemp,” was detected in the system of another crew member, and the tests revealed the presence of alcohol in it.

These toxicology data are being evaluated in the context of safety management and human performance, two crucial elements in aviation mishap investigations, the agency stated.
Following the incident, the NSIB reported that it had given the airline timely safety advice.

“First toxicological testing on the flight crew showed positive results for some substances, including indicators of alcohol consumption,” the statement adds. For THC, the euphoric ingredient in cannabis, a member of the cabin staff also tested positive. These findings are being examined as part of the investigation’s safety management and human performance components.

“The NSIB has immediately recommended that Air Peace Limited improve crew resource management training, specifically in handling unstable approaches and go-around decisions, and strengthen internal protocols for crew fitness-for-duty monitoring prior to flight dispatch.”

“On July 13, 2025, a toxicological test was performed on the flight crew at the medical laboratory section of Rivers State Hospital Management in Port Harcourt, and they tested positive for a few chemicals. Ethyl glucuronide tests after the incident showed that the captain and first officer had recently consumed alcohol, according to toxicological screening.
