Governor Ododo Redefines Kogi Politics Through Reconciliation and Effective Governance

0

Nigerian politics has frequently been characterized as a zero-sum game dominated by vehement rivalries, ingrained interests, and ethnic divisions.

But in Kogi State, under the direction of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, a fresh story is taking shape.

Ododo has shown in his less than two years in government that politics can be about performance, inclusivity, and reconciliation.

He has blended vision with humility, political acumen with grassroots development, and tangible initiatives with symbolic reconciliation.

There was some upheaval in his ascent to power. In the fiercely contested governorship election held on November 11, 2023, many people feared Kogi would revert to the perilous course of political animosity and ethnic polarization. Ododo’s inauguration speech, however, established the framework for an alternative course that is based on harmony, equity, and progress. An Appeal for Unity Governor Ododo gave a progressive and accommodative address at his inauguration on January 27, 2024.

He said, “We are here today because we have chosen unity over disunity; greatness over petty grievances and peace over dangerous acts of recriminations and worn-out dogmas of ethnic jingoism, despite the election storm that threatened to set brothers and sisters against one another.” Since then, Kogi’s political discourse has used that remark as a point of reference. It was a departure from the past, when elections frequently widened rifts.

By promising his administration will be for all Kogites, regardless of political affiliation, tribe, or religion, Ododo reached out to opposition politicians. “Fellow Kogites,” he declared sharply, “I swear to you all that I will be the governor of Kogi State, not an ethnic governor.” Many now refer to this all-encompassing concept as the “Ododo Political Magic.” This approach places a high value on humility, shared accountability, and bridging gaps.

First Anniversary: A Reconciliation Symbol During his first anniversary in January 2025, Ododo’s reconciliatory politics were perhaps most evident. He organized a wide-ranging discussion that included Kogites from all walks of life, political figures, traditional leaders, youth organizations, women’s associations, civic society, the business world, and even opposition members, in place of self-congratulatory celebrations. The majority of people who ran against him and his predecessor were present.

They were persuaded to believe in a larger Kogi State by his dignity and humility. Regardless of political or ethnic divisions, the meeting was a symbolically sincere attempt to come up with ideas for the state’s future.

“The baton is passed from one administration to another, but the ultimate goal remains the same, which is progress,” Ododo said in his closing remarks, reminding the audience that governance is a relay race. Your role is essential to the realization of a larger Kogi State, regardless of whether you are a private investor, state official, traditional leader, or concerned citizen. His strong belief that Kogi’s diversity is a strength that can be used for progress rather than a weakness is shown in this emphasis on shared accountability. But the charm of a Governor of the Grassroots Ododo is not limited to words.

His government has started a people-centered development initiative that appeals to the general public. He has made a conscious investment in the fundamental areas that affect the lives of common people, in contrast to many presidents who prioritize metropolitan infrastructure. Enhancing Health Systems The Kogi State Health Insurance Scheme was strengthened as one of his first initiatives, increasing its accessibility for low-income households. More Kogites now have access to reasonably priced healthcare thanks to coverage expansion and premium subsidies for disadvantaged populations.

Furthermore, the Primary Healthcare Delivery System has drawn more attention than ever before. In rural areas, new centers have been built, and those that already existed have been restored. Villagers no longer have to travel great distances for medical care thanks to the recruitment of health personnel and the availability of necessary medications. Roads and Infrastructure in Rural Areas Accessibility in rural areas has also been a top concern. Ododo is aware that Kogi’s economy relies heavily on agriculture, which is dependent on well-maintained rural roads. His government has started a large-scale initiative to repair feeder roads that connect farming areas to marketplaces. In addition to enhancing trade, these highways are bringing once remote settlements into line with the state economy.

Youth Development and Education Renovating deteriorating school buildings, supplying educational resources, and constructing new buildings that align with his goal of building on the achievements of the recent past are all examples of Ododo’s dedication to education.

To prepare Kogi’s youth for a competitive future, his government has also started projects to incorporate digital learning into classrooms. Additionally, vocational training facilities have been set up to give young people real-world experience in ICT, agriculture, and entrepreneurship.

His premise is straightforward: the best remedy for unemployment and insecurity is an empowered young. Using Agriculture to Change the Game The core of Ododo’s development plan is agriculture. He has advanced and reinvigorated the agricultural platforms that his predecessor had established.

Kogi is establishing itself as an agro-industrial center with the proposed 245-hectare Agro-Industrial Processing Zone close to Ajaokuta.

$50 million worth of cashew was exported from the state without value addition in 2024 alone. To improve the value of farmers’ produce, Ododo has pledged to change that by establishing processing enterprises in Kogi. “This is extremely unfair to our farmers who work hard to step up production,” he stated at the anniversary discussion. We shall work together to create a more promising and prosperous future for Kogi State. Big-Ticket Projects for Economic Transformation Ododo is not afraid to take on ambitious projects that have the ability to change the economy.

The old market, whose site is no longer viable, is already being replaced by a new international market. He has stated that this market will “reshape Kogi State’s commercial landscape, establishing a center of economic activity that will be a model for other areas.” The work is proceeding steadily.

Similar to this, attempts are being made to fully utilize Kogi’s wealth of natural resources, which include steel, solid minerals, tourism, and the blue economy. While promising a secure and welcoming investment environment, his administration has strengthened ties with private investors.

Additionally, the governor has vigorously advocated for Kogi to play a significant role in Nigeria’s food security strategy. His vision of all-season farming is slowly coming to pass thanks to the abundance of water and arable land. In his inaugural address, he declared, “We must produce what we eat, eat what we produce, and produce what others eat.” Many agricultural interventions, like ACReSAL, have favorably altered Kogi State’s farmer demographic. A new generation of farmers, from Lokoja to Ibaji and from Odo Ere to Obangede, has emerged to transform the sector.

Humility as Political Capital: Ododo’s personal style and policy decisions are what make him unique. He frequently calls himself the “Chief Servant of Kogi State” and is affable and modest. Former enemies now find it easier to cooperate with him because of his humility, which has also improved the political atmosphere. He positions himself as a bridge-builder rather than a “strongman.”

He recognized the accomplishments of previous leaders in his inauguration speech, particularly former opposition party governors Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and Captain Idris Wada. As the founder of contemporary Kogi politics, he even honored the late Prince Abubakar Audu. He effectively conveyed the idea that leadership is a continuum rather than a war by doing this.

Politics Without Bitterness: Ododo has reinterpreted political participation in a system where the opposition is frequently viewed as an enemy. Frequently emphasizing that “this government is for all of you,” he urges detractors to share their thoughts.

It took our staff a few minutes to comprehend the Ododo Political Ideology in the lead-up to the Awards in the first quarter of 2025. To him, communication is more important than resentment. He thinks that communication can accomplish anything. Building on a Solid Foundation Ododo has stated time and again that it is difficult to succeed a “hugely successful administration” such as Yahaya Bello’s. He maintains, however, that Bello prepared the ground, cultivated it, and sowed the seeds, and that his job is to see those seeds grow.

This modesty in acknowledging his predecessor’s work stands in stark contrast to the widespread practice of disparaging previous governments. Ododo has spared Kogi valuable time and money by focusing on building rather than breaking, which has allowed the state to maintain its momentum in governance.

A Future of Joint Prosperity: Although Ododo’s tenure as leader is only in its early stages, the outlines of his legacy are already apparent. He is reinventing administration as service rather than entitlement and politics as reconciliation rather than retribution.

Even from unexpected places, he is receiving recognition for his emphasis on inclusive politics, economic transformation, and grassroots development. “Our success as a state will be measured by the actions we take, not by the promises we make,” he once said to Kogites. As of right now, his initiatives—such as healthcare reforms, rural infrastructure, educational revitalization, agro-industrial plans, investment drive, and reconciliatory politics—speak louder than words.

The political climate in Kogi has evolved. The “Ododo Political Magic” is a combination of performance, inclusivity, and humility; it is not an illusion. It is the tale of a man who made the decision to rule with justice, peacemaking, and a fear of God.

One thing is certain as the state continues on this path: Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is not just leading Kogi; he is also changing the state’s political landscape.

Osifo Advocates Use of Local Security Outfits to Combat Insecurity Prior to State Police

0

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) fielded Mr. Stanley Osifo as a presidential candidate in the general elections of 2023. He talks about state police, insecurity, and the role of states in combating instability in this interview. He lays forth his arguments for why politicians ought to prioritize governance over the general elections in 2027. Among other things, the politician discusses the importance of concentrating on local government growth rather than state establishment. Excerpts from Joy Anibogu:

What are your thoughts on the government’s approach to combating banditry and the claim made by Malam Nasir El Rufai that the government is compensating bandits?

Because it is not just a problem in Nigeria, banditry is a global one. The government is addressing them with non-kinetic measures. According to Malam Nuhu Ribadu, the National Security Adviser (NSA), the administration is working and is not giving up. The weather is what they’re dealing with. While it’s extremely little right now, everyone is in a similar scenario to ours, and the government is handling it.

Do you not believe that it is time for the government to address the state police issue specifically?

There is a measure on that subject before the National Assembly, and I believe that the discussion is ongoing and that it will eventually receive the attention it deserves. State police are also being developed in a number of states, including Amotekun in the South West and others throughout the nation. The problem is being addressed in numerous places; various states have raised concerns about policing activities. Before state police are officially authorized to employ them, we should be examining how states can utilize the current outfits.

In 2027, we witnessed individuals running for political office, and it is proposed that public office holders serve a single five-year term to prevent the circumstance where they would be running for a second term two years after taking office.

People perceive what is happening as a campaign, although it cannot be labeled such. I have stated on multiple occasions that the time for politics is not yet right and that instead of running for office, people should provide good governance and services for the general public. They should, in my opinion, make an effort to satisfy everyone’s expectations. Political declarations and statements are frequently made in the media, and many parties are unstable and engaged in internal strife. You witness politicians from the same party arguing and saying a lot of stuff to each other. No one has stated that they wish to run for a certain office. Many refer to their actions as campaigns, but they haven’t stated that these are the things they will do for the public. Their only goal is to set up shop and make plans for the various offices in 2027. You may refer to them as political campaigns to a great degree, but I believe that the politicians should concentrate on governance, give the people the benefits of democracy, and take actions that will advance the nation.

What do you think about the accusations that the APC is splitting the opposition parties in order to establish a one-party state?

It is said that the APC is attempting to establish a one-party state. A mere charge does not establish a fact; you must provide proof to support your claim. We cannot linger on it if you are unable to substantiate your accusation. Allegations can be made, and the person making the accusations is responsible for explaining his motivation. The current situation is one of internal conflict between the different political groups. But how each side resolves its problems will determine the outcome.

The government reportedly plans to raise public servant salaries. Given the hardships Nigerians are facing, is this a good time to do this?

The Revenue Mobilisation and Financial Allocation Commission (RMFAC) is in charge of the matter pertaining to the pay and benefits of public office holders. Setting the remuneration of public servants and public office holders is their responsibility. There are procedures for doing this; no one can simply wake up and decide how much public office holders should make. The choices must be theirs if they believe what they are doing is right. However, a lot of individuals think that raising politicians’ pay is not necessarily good for the nation. We must understand the precise reason for the growth.

The south-east is calling for the creation of new states, while others are arguing that Nigeria needs additional states. Do you agree with this, and what can the current states do to better their current capabilities?

People would still come and push for their own states even if you already created them. Although the creation of new states is a positive thing, you should note that after gaining our independence, we were divided into regions, then 12 states, 19 states, 21 states, 30 states, and finally 36 states. Upon the creation of a new state, the capital city would undergo development, including the construction of roads, infrastructure, and other facilities. Therefore, we can create more states, but I believe that instead of doing so, we should concentrate on the 774 local government councils that exist around the nation and provide them with developmental money. Nobody would push for new states if all of the local governments were functioning effectively since the development would have a greater impact. For the sake of federal character and balance, those advocating for the creation of states are entitled to do so. The Federal Republic of Nigeria’s constitution, however, should guide our actions when we take them. To give the people a sense of governance, however, let’s give local councils more importance, as I mentioned.

At the primary level, you ran for president in 2019 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and in 2023 under the All Progressives Congress (APC). What can we anticipate from you in 2027?

I’m an individual that believes in Nigeria and is pragmatic. Notwithstanding the circumstances, I am confident that we will overcome the obstacles. Whatever the circumstances, I think we’ll win. Nigerians should be given proper care and encouraged to believe in themselves. They ought to be curious about the events as well. I think that poverty needs to be effectively addressed and that our institutions need to be robust. People in power should act in the best interests of the nation. I think that the masses should believe in democratic values because governance is for the people, not just the elites. The issues that affect people should, in my opinion, be handled cautiously. That is why I decided to run for president in 2019 and 2023. In my opinion, we ought to be prepared to take actions that will benefit the populace in 2027. Those who are present now cannot be condemned. Everybody should do their part to ensure that the nation is great. Whether they win or lose, I want to encourage those running to cooperate with those in place for the nation’s advancement. If I am elected president, I think my experience will help the country achieve even more progress than it currently has.

Why I Dumped NCP for APC – Ex-Edo Chairman

0

Victor Ogba, the former chairman of the now-defunct National Conscience Party (NCP) in Edo State, claims that President Bola Tinubu’s remarkable and historic reforms are the reason he chose to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Saturday, Ogba made the claim.

He alluded to the fact that September 16 has been set aside for his formal APC statement.

Ogba, who is also the National President of the Movement for Nigerian Transformation, or MNT, praised Tinubu for his brave changes in every area.

He claimed that the APC was still gaining members as a result of the historic reforms.

He mentioned that on August 22, he was welcomed by the APC chairman of ward 5 in Delta’s Isoko South Local Government Area.

“It’s time for me to return to my home state of Delta after playing politics in Edo for a long time.

Port Harcourt Airport Incident Sparks Debate After NSIB Report, Air Peace Responds

0

The report from the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) on the incident at Port Harcourt International Airport involving domestic carrier Air Peace is in the midst of controversy. It was publicized.

Because the crew members of the airline allegedly tested positive for drugs and alcohol, the report indicted them.

The NSIB recently published its preliminary findings on an incident that occurred on July 13, 2025, at Port Harcourt International Airport involving Air Peace’s Boeing 737 aircraft.

While the cabin crew tested positive for THC from cannabis, the Air Peace captain and first officer tested positive for ethyl, a byproduct of alcohol, according to the NSIB investigation.

However, due to the contentious conclusions, Air Peace has disagreed with NSIB.

Even though Air Peace stated that it has not yet received the report that implicated its crew members, the airline nevertheless provided its own explanation.

“The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has fully approved the reinstatement of the First Officer (co-pilot), who exhibited professionalism by requesting a go-around from his captain,” the airline said in a statement posted on X on Friday.

Victory Maduneme, a member of the Air Peace cabin crew, also denied that NSIB tested positive for narcotics and threatened to take her to court.

Speaking further about the incident, David Bernard, a co-pilot for Air Peace, stated that the captain failed to adhere to the proper landing procedure.

I told him, Commander, you’re high on this strategy; let’s start a go-around. Bernard added, “And he didn’t pay attention to me.

The NSIB’s Director General, Alex Badeh, has, nevertheless, insisted on the conclusions revealed in the contentious report.

Obasa Speaks Out on 2027 Plans, Clears the Air

The Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, has denied rumors that he publicly announced his next political goal before to the general elections in 2027.

Following rumors that he had alluded to a bid for governor or a Senate seat during a live appearance on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines program, Obasa reportedly provided the clarification.

The Speaker, who was on the show, maintained that his comments had been misunderstood.

Whether you want to be a senator, governor, or lawmaker, you have to wait for the party hierarchy to decide where you should go as a politician, he said. Individuals shouldn’t be misinformed or attempt to misunderstand the party’s objectives.

Insisting that his current focus was on the nation’s overall development, he asked supporters and the general public to maintain their composure.

“Our primary focus is on how to advance the nation,” Obasa added. With each passing day, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making tremendous strides.

Obasa, however, stated that he is cognizant of life after public service and that he is not retiring from politics.

“We are family in the APC, Nigeria is our home, and our party is our strength.” The strength of the APC is increasing daily. Life comes next. “So let’s focus on living that life,” the speaker said.

Obasa emphasized the need for aspiration to be in line with party structures while elucidating the reality of political endeavour.

Political party membership is a prerequisite for discussing politics, and as a member, you must have faith in the party’s leadership.

There comes a time when you are unable to decide for yourself what comes next. You have to respect the party and its management, even if you want to become somebody, he clarified.

Party officials would ultimately decide the course for members before 2027, he said.

“Who goes where will be decided by the party leaders once they have a meeting. Therefore, interaction and collaboration with party leaders are crucial whether one is serving as Speaker, Deputy Governor, Governor, or Senator. The procedure must be in line with you as an individual,” Obasa said.

Gov Adeleke Directs New Policies During Osun Cabinet Meeting

0

The State Executive Council met in length on Friday under the direction of Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, where important state policies were examined and new implementation guidelines were given to ministries and agencies.
At the Government House in Osogbo, the conference, which lasted late into the night, evaluated progress in several sectors and took note of what the governor called “a very high job performance rating” from the populace.

It is important for us to congratulate ourselves on the numerous demonstrations, statements, and endorsements from the state’s interest organizations. All Osun people give our administration very high ratings and our job performance rating is at an extremely high level,” Adeleke informed his cabinet.

Priorities include the Ilesa dualization, the Ile-Ife flyover, the Oke Fia/Lameco flyovers, and the Iwo dualization. The governor promised that ongoing road and infrastructure projects will be completed on time.

Regarding the recently enacted State Electricity Market law, Adeleke instructed the Energy Commissioner to create an implementation strategy and approach the National Electricity Regulatory Commission for support.

The Governor assigned the Ministry of Science and Innovation the responsibility of expediting the implementation of the State ICT and Tech Innovation policies and creating a plan for the implementation of blockchain and artificial intelligence.

The Imole Wifi Initiative’s launch was praised, but he encouraged the government to portray Osun as a tech-driven state.

The Statewide Youth Agropreneurship Project, which was started in Oriade, must be immediately implemented in other local government areas, according to Adeleke’s directive.

Regarding sports, he urged tighter cooperation with the House of Assembly and demanded immediate work on measures creating the Osun Sports Commission, the Police Trust Fund, and the Osun Sports Development Fund.

ALGON members were instructed by Adeleke to draft developmental documents that were in line with the state agenda in order to address the local government dilemma. To spearhead the endeavor, he assigned the Ministry of Budget and the Chief of Staff.

Additionally, he mandated an evaluation of the Imole Youth Corps to guarantee the scheme’s objectives are delivered with excellence.

Osun’s progress in combating climate change was also praised by the governor, who said that other states, the federal government, and foreign donor organizations were taking notice of the program.

“The ultimate objective is to secure funding and donor support from multiple willing organizations,” he stated.

Adeleke emphasized that before the election season, it is imperative to collect reliable governance data from all sectors.

Data and statistics on our performance in the many state economic areas are needed as the election season draws near. The creation of our governance data ought to begin. Modern best practices must guide the statistics agency’s operations,” he stated.

The council authorized the promotion of minor chiefs to Part II Chiefs, established a powerful committee to address the lack of personnel in health and education, and confirmed Prince Adeleke Saheed Adeyemi’s appointment as the Olokusa of Okusa in Egbedore Local Government following lengthy discussions.

The approval of the governor’s speech as council resolutions marked the official end of the meeting.

Tonye Cole Calls Out Wike, Tells Him to Be Clear About His Loyalty

0

Tonye Cole, the former All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Rivers State, has attacked Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, for his affiliation with the ruling APC although claiming to be a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” program on Friday, Cole stated that Wike shouldn’t mislead people about his political affiliation.

Do you think he’s PDP or APC? To the best of our knowledge, he is PDP.

“We can’t keep confusing Rivers State voters and Nigerians because it is dangerous for democracy to be in one party and control another party, and we are trying to create a one-party state that is a mixture that nobody is clear about,” he stated.

It was noted that Wike ran against his party’s Northern-born candidate, Atiku Abubakar, when campaigning for the presidency in 2023, urging him to relocate to the South.

Following that, President Bola Tinubu nominated the former governor of Rivers State as a minister.

He has endorsed the president’s ambition for a second term in many forums.

In the August 30 local government election in Rivers, the APC was said to have won 20 of the 23 council seats.

In Obio/Akpo, where Wike chaired the council for two terms in 1999 before becoming a governor from 2015 to 2023, the PDP were victorious in three councils.
