Mbah urged them to use the occasion to exhibit love, tolerance, peace, unity, and a sense of sacrifice to move the nation forward.

He made the call on Sunday in his goodwill message to the Muslim faithful at Eid el-Kabir, stressing that the present socio-economic challenges would ultimately abate through the collective sacrifice and commitment to nation-building by all Nigerians.

He said, “I extend warm greetings to our Muslim brothers and sisters in Enugu State in particular and across the nation on this occasion of Eid el-Kabir.

“As we celebrate, let us also reflect on and imbibe the essence of sacrifice, charity, love, service, peace, unity, humility, and submission to the command of God that this occasion represents.

“Let us remember to be our brother’s keeper and spare a thought for our neighbours to ensure that no one is left behind as we navigate through the difficult times. It is only by working together in love and commitment to nationhood that we can overcome the present challenges and build the Nigeria of our dreams.”

Clark demands implementation of 2014 confab report in letter to Tinubu

0

A former federal commissioner for information, Edwin Clark, has demanded the implementation of the 2014 national conference report.
In a letter dated June 13 and addressed to President Bola Tinubu, the elder statesman urged him to carry out an immediate restructuring of Nigeria to save the country from collapse.
Clark also called for a political solution to the travails of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, who is standing trial for alleged treason and terrorism at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
He also accused former President Muhammadu Buhari of trying to subjugate Igbos for unknown reasons.
The 2014 National Conference was midwifed by former President Goodluck Jonathan with 492 delegates that represented a cross-section of Nigerians including the professional bodies in attendance to deliberate on a wide range of topics – devolution of powers and political restructuring among others.
Clark wrote: “Now that the elections are over, we must face the restructuring of this country.
“I repeat, the immediate restructuring of Nigeria must be carried out if this country is to remain one, and I appeal to Mr. President to take immediate action to implement the historic 2014 National Conference Report which submitted 600 recommendations to the Presidency on how to restructure Nigeria in every aspect of our lives.
“President Buhari did everything to subjugate the Igbos for reason best known to him. Perhaps it may be necessary to cite some examples; the NNPC board which he constituted when he came into office had 9 members, 1 from the South-West, 1 from South-South, and no member from the South-East, even though 3 South-East states; Abia, Anambra and Imo are oil producing states; the remaining members including his Chief of State came from the North, a non-oil producing region.
“Mr. President, even in your administration, the discrimination and injustice against the Igbos has not abated. The old Eastern Region and the old Western Region, to which I belonged, were equal competitors and partners before and during the First and Second Republic but today, you have appointed 10 Yorubas as Ministers from the South-West, and only five (5) Ministers from the South-East, and you even failed to give them the ministerial appointment due to their region that would have made it six (6) Ministers.
“ There is no justification for this grave omission and no effort has been made to correct it.”

‘Your government perpetrates injustice, discrimination against Igbo’ – Edwin Clark accuses Tinubu

0

The leader of the Ijaw Nation, Chief Edwin Clark, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of “discrimination and injustice” against the Igbos.
Clark said the discrimination from the past administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari against Igbos has not abated under Tinubu’s government.
He noted that while Tinubu appointed 10 ministers from the Southwest, only six had been appointed from the Southeast, adding that there was no justification for the omission.
Clark stated this in a letter addressed to President Tinubu.
The letter reads partly: “Mr President, even in your administration, the discrimination and injustice against the Igbos have not abated. The old Eastern Region and the old Western Region, to which I belonged, were equal competitors and partners before and during the First and Second Republics, but today, you have appointed 10 Yorubas as ministers from the South-West and only five ministers from the South-East, and you even failed to give them the ministerial appointment due to their region that would have made it six ministers. There is no justification for this grave omission and no effort has been made to correct it.”
The Niger Delta elder charged Igbos of “Southeast or wherever they are in Nigeria,” to stand up and “assert their rights legitimately, judiciously and in a democratic way, to benefit like any other Nigerian as it was before the civil war of 1967.”

Detained activist, Sanyaolu, regains freedom

Human rights activist and National Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, Juwon Sanyaolu, has regained his freedom from police custody.

Sanyaolu was released from the Ikeja headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command on Thursday night, two days after his whereabouts became unknown.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has not immediately responded to inquiries but a member of the state chapter of the TIB Movement, Ayoyinka Oni, confirmed his release.

In the video shared with our correspondent Oni was seen leaving the police station with the activist. “Solidarity forever!” Sanyaolu was also heard saying.

The publisher of Sahara Reporters and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, condemned Sanyaolu’s arrest in an interview with The According on Thursday.

“It is very sad that after 25 years of Nigeria’s return to civilian rule, a bunch of people in the government led by Bola Tinubu – a person who purportedly participated in the quest for democracy; these elements of retrogressive politics have completely destroyed the very fabric and tenets of democracy, particularly, respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms!” he said.

How the activist got the police custody is still sketchy as the police had earlier noted he was not in their custody.

Civil society groups began calling on the DSS to free the activist following police denial.

But Sowore added that he later got information that “he (Sanyaolu) was taken to the Lagos State Police Command” after allegedly being in the custody of the DSS.

“They (the DSS) confided in me that Sanyaolu was detained in Lagos and even asked us to send lawyers yesterday (Wednesday) but then claimed their director was not available,” Sowore said.

On Thursday, the DSS’ spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, denied the agency’s involvement in the arrest.

“Juwon Sanyaolu, the Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement is not with the DSS. He was not invited, arrested or detained by the Service,” Afunanya stated in the chat.

On Tuesday night, Sanyaolu raised the alarm about his arrest.

In a distress message sent to our correspondent via WhatsApp, Sanyaolu wrote, “I have been arrested (by the) police.”
