Rwanda coach seeks Rohr’s help against Eagles

Rwanda head coach, Thorsten Frannk Splitter, says he will be relying on Gernot Rohr for essential information to claim the scalp of the Super Eagles in their 2026 World Cup CAF Qualifying Group C match day 5 fixture on March 17, 2025, According Sports Extra reports.

After four rounds of matches, Rwanda are surprisingly topping the group with seven points, the same as South Africa in second place due to an inferior goal difference, and the East Africans can now fancy their chances at maiden World Cup qualification by adding Nigeria to their conquest list.

Rohr led Benin to a historic 2-1 win over Nigeria at Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, Abidjan, on June 10, and Splitter feels the Franco-German, who coached Nigeria for almost six years before being appointed by Benin, is the right man to advise him on how to beat Nigeria.

“I am very sure we (me and Gernot Rohr) will have a phone call before; it may be two or three, and if he can tell me something, I will be stupid not to take it. For that, we will try to be in contact; if possible, we can help each other; for sure, we will do it,” the Belgian tactician told Brila FM on Saturday.

Rohr was carried shoulder-high by Cheetahs players after Jodel Dossou scored on 37 minutes to cancel out Raphael Onyedika’s 27th-minute opener for Nigeria, and Steve Mounié scored the decider three minutes into added time of the first half to give Benin their first victory against their illustrious neighbours in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria are stuck in fifth spot on the log with miserly three points in for matches, and the three-time African champions will look to revive qualification hopes when the series resumes early next year, which will see them host Zimbabwe on March 24 on the back of the Rwanda trip.

This will be under a new coach following the resignation of Finidi George on Saturday, June 15, shortly after the Nigeria Football Federation announced its decision to hire an expatriate technical adviser to boss him.

IBEDC promises stable power supply during Eid-El-Kabir

The management of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc has promised its customers a stable power supply during the Eid-El-Kabir celebrations.

In a statement on Sunday, the IBEDC Acting Managing Director, Francis Agoha, said the company would keep its technical team on standby to address all issues that may arise during the festivities.

Felicitating with Muslims across the country in commemoration of the Sallah celebration, Agoha stressed the importance of selflessness, brotherly love, and sacrifice in fostering unity and prosperity for Nigeria, as some of the key values extolled during this season.

The statement read, “Agoha restates IBEDC’s dedication to providing quality service, within the remit of its control, even during holidays. He assures customers that technical teams are committed to promptly resolving any faults that may occur during this period.

“The Managing Director appealed to customers to refrain from engaging in energy theft, as it contradicts Eid-El-Kabir’s spirit of honesty and sacrifice. Energy theft is a criminal offence that undermines the quality of service for all customers.”

He urged customers to report any issues or complaints to IBEDC offices or call the customer care line at 07001239999 instead of resorting to illegal activities.

Agoha also cautioned customers against tampering with electrical installations, highlighting the dangers of such actions, which can lead to severe electrical accidents. He advised customers to ensure proper earthing of their premises as part of their safety measures.

He also encouraged customers to utilize IBEDC’s hassle-free payment channels for bill settlements and vending to avoid disconnection.

“The payment channels include the IBEDCPAY app for Android and iOS users, FetsWallet, Quickteller, Payarena, Jumia, Watu, Buypower, and ATMs.

“IBEDC offices will remain open during public holidays from 9 am to 3 pm to address customer needs, and inquiries can also be made via email at [email protected].”

IBEDC’s promise is coming on the heels of Eid-El-Kabir celebrations by Muslims across the world.

Tinubu prays in Lagos, stresses importance of sacrificerator

President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to show more care for their neighbours and extend charity to all in the spirit of Eid-el-Kabir.

Speaking with journalists after Eid-el-Kabir prayers in Lagos on Sunday, the President said some level of sacrifice will be required to move the nation forward.

According to a statement signed by Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, after Eid prayers, Tinubu urged Nigerians to sacrifice their time for the growth and well-being of the country.

“We have been told by the Chief Imam how we can follow the path of sacrifice. The sacrifice required of a good citizen. Citizenship comes with responsibilities. As citizens, what do we need to do to be committed members of our society? Yes, that is sacrifice; loving your country. Loving your neighbours. Sharing what you have with each other. And to always be thankful to Almighty God,” the President said.

All their activities and actions were geared towards nation-building.

“We must therefore ensure that their sacrifices are not in vain. It is incumbent on us to follow their footsteps to ensure that this nation, Nigeria, continues to grow in leaps and bounds,” he said.

The Chief Imam of Lagos urged citizens to pray that God Almighty grant the President the strength and wisdom to deliver on his vision for a better and prosperous nation.
