As the new commander of the Special Protection Unit, also known as Base 6 in Rivers State, the Nigeria Police Force has assigned Promise Wosu, a former Chief Security Officer (CSO), to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Signals collected by SaharaReporters provided this information.
Wosu was fired as the CSO for the current governor of Rivers, Siminalayi Fubara, not long before he was assigned to head the special unit.
His departure may have been related to the State House of Assembly’s purported efforts to impeach Fubara on orders from former Governor Wike, according to sources cited in the story.
To improve security around Very Important People (VIPs) and diplomats, Wosu currently leads the Special Protection Unit (SPU), which was founded in 2009.
Irikefe London Owen, a former Camp Commandant of Rivers Government House, and Emmanuel Nwakanme were two more former aides to the FCT minister who were similarly redeployed to oversee the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) and “Operation Sting.”

The modifications, according to the sources, were planned to help the FCT Minister gain more authority over the security apparatus in Rivers State and maybe pave the way for Governor Fubara’s impeachment.
According to the report, a signal dated October 31, 2023, and signed by Police Force Secretary AIG Olarewaju Yomi Oladimeji was seen.
In Rivers State, police tactical squads are led by Emmanuel Nwakanma, the former head of the FCT’s legal department, Promise Wosu, the former camp commander of Government House, Irikefe London, and CSO Promise Wosu.
In order to facilitate Fubara, his successor,’s easy impeachment. They are to lead Rivers State’s CTU, SPU, and Operation Sting, a senior police officer informed SaharaReporters in a message.
