Former House of Representatives member Farouk Lawan was sentenced to five years in prison by the Court of Appeal, and this decision has been upheld by the Supreme Court.

Femi Otedola, the Chairman of Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd., is a businessman. Lawan was found guilty of receiving a $500,000 bribe and given a prison sentence in 2021.

Friday’s unanimous decision by a five-member panel confirmed the Court of Appeal’s 2022 ruling, which had sustained Lawan’s five-year sentence for just count three of the three counts he was charged with before the Federal Capital Territory’s High Court.
As per Justice Tijjani Abubakar’s reading of Justice John Okoro’s lead ruling on Friday, the highest court determined that Lawan’s appeal lacked merit and dismissed it.
