President Tinubu appoints 9 new INEC Resident Electoral Commissioners

As per Section 154 (1) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, Amended) and Section 6 of the Electoral Act (2022), President Bola Tinubu has the authority to appoint nine (9) new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a five-year term each. The confirmation of these appointments is pending in the Nigerian Senate.

The resident electoral commissioner for Edo State is Mr. Isah Shaka Ehimeakne.

Election commissioner for residents of Ekiti State, Mr. Bamidele Agbede

The resident electoral commissioner for Gombe State is Mr. Jani Adamu Bello.
Commissioner for Elections for Kwara State, Dr. Taiye Ilayasu

Election Commissioner for Lagos State, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi

Resident electoral commissioner for Nasarawa State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello

Commissioner for Elections for Niger State, Prof. Mohammed Yalwa

Commissioner of Elections for Rivers State, Dr. Anugbum Onuoha
The Zamfara State resident electoral commissioner is Mr. Abubakar Fawa Dambo.

According to President Tinubu’s determination to help establish a new and sustainable standard of transparent, equitable, and conflict-free electoral conduct in Nigeria, he expects the new appointees to uphold the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct in the performance of their duties.
