One Dead as Police Prevent Bandit Assault on NSCDC Officers in Katsina

In the Dutsinma local government region of the State, armed bandits attempted to attack the Dutsinma-Kurfi road, but were successfully repelled by the Nigeria Police Force’s Katsina State command.
The incident occurred early on Sunday, February 23, 2025, when claimed bandits targeted on-duty members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), according to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.
According to him, officers from the Dutsinma Divisional Police Headquarters hurried to the scene of an emergency call at around 12:57 in the morning.

When a shootout started, the robbers were forced to flee, and some of them were wounded by the gunfire.
As security personnel searched the area, they discovered the body of one neutralized suspected robber.

Investigative efforts have been intensified by the police to apprehend the fugitives.

The community was thus reassured by the Police Command of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding people and property across the State.

In the meantime, inhabitants of Sokoto State’s Sabon Birni Local Government Area are reportedly in trouble due to an excessive demand from Bello Turji, a known bandit commander.

In response to the death of one of their members and the confiscation of weaponry during a recent altercation with security authorities, the gang reportedly levied a ₦25 million tax on the towns.

Furthermore, the locals are frantically trying to raise ₦3 million in order to secure the release of 12 worshippers who were kidnapped by the thieves and taken from four different villages.

According to Vanguard, the Sokoto State House of Assembly representative for Sabon Birni East, Hon. Ibrahim Saidu Naino, has confirmed that each of the 12 kidnapped believers has been held hostage for ₦250,000.

Turji’s group has requested a large tax from the communities, which is paying for this ransom.

Naino described the events in detail, stating that locals had retaliated against the attackers with military assistance, killing one of them and taking out some weapons in the process.

The armed gang retaliated by imposing a monetary penalty, which they presented as recompense for their losses.

Makinde Has No Standing to Instruct Us on LG Crisis – APC

According to the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), there is no need for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s guidance about the state’s crisis.

In the state’s ongoing political stalemate, the party requested Makinde to cease calling them the aggressor.
The chaos surrounding Osun’s local government areas has engulfed “roughly 10 persons from the attacks of the PDP hoodlums across the state,” according to the APC.

According to reports, Makinde recommended the state APC to go to court rather than rely on self-help in order to resolve the issue while he was in Osogbo, Osun State, on Sunday to observe his counterpart, Ademola Adeleke, swear in the council chairmen.
However, the APC responded by saying that Makinde was only attempting to appease Adeleke in a statement issued by party spokesperson, Kola Olabisi.

Olabisi stated, “That advice from Governor Makinde was unnecessary because all the evidence that was available showed that the governor of Oyo State was spitting white spittle and internalizing metaphorical blood in order to appease his fellow governor from the same party extraction.”

“If we may question, where was Governor Makinde when his political soulmate in the former State of the Virtuous went to such lengths to attack our members and chieftains using the sacred space of the Osun State Government House?

When the freshly reinstated chairman of our party in Ikire, Hon. Remi Abass, Irewole Local Government Council Area, was shot dead by political thugs of his party, seemingly encouraged by Governor Adeleke’s earlier incitement, where was Governor Makinde?

“Where was Governor Makinde when one person was slain by PDP-aligned thugs in Irojo, Ilesa, Osun State, during the unlawful, chaotic local government council election that his brother allegedly organized on Saturday?

When daredevil thugs linked to his party’s violent thugs nearly killed a party chieftain a few days ago in Ilesa, Mr. Tobi Famurewa and Engr. Remi Omowaiye, a serving Executive Director at the Federal Housing Authority, the party pleaded with Makinde to explain to Nigerians why he lost his voice.

“Governor Makinde is not in a better position to instruct the APC leadership on how to carry out the continuous efforts of our duly elected chairmen and council members in order to benefit from the Court of Appeal judgment, Akure Division, rendered on February 10, 2025,” we would like to make clear to him.

Doguwa: APC Set to Reclaim Kano Mandate Before 1 PM in 2027

According to Alhassan Ado Doguwa, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), the All Progressives Congress (APC) will win back its mandate in the 2027 election.
Recall that Nasiru Gawuna, the APC candidate, fought against incumbent Abba Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in court and during the 2023 election to take over the office.
Doguwa said he was confident in the APC’s unity in the state, saying it would help the party regain power, while speaking at an empowerment program in Kano on Sunday hosted by Senate Deputy President Barau Jibrin.

On election day in 2027, Dogwu predicts that the NNPP will lose Kano before 1 p.m.

By the grace of God, he declared, “With the unity in our party now, we will reclaim our mandate in Kano before 1 p.m. on election day in 2027.” The NNPP is going to lose.

In the meantime, Jibril strengthened party mobilization efforts by donating 1,136 motorbikes and 61 automobiles to grassroots leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State during the ceremony.

The cars will be given to the local government and party zonal chairman, Jibril said during the handover, while the motorbikes were for the ward chairmen.

He also revealed intentions to give university graduates a loan of ₦5 million to help launch small enterprises.

Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the APC, reportedly commended Jibril’s donation, saying it would strengthen the party’s mission and enhance the socioeconomic standing of its members, according to NAN.

Ganduje also sent gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the appointment of important Kano State APC members to federal and ministerial posts.

Minna Unrest: Immigration Officer Shot Amid Police-Hoodlums Confrontation

A conflict between police officers and criminals over alleged stolen goods in Minna, Niger State, resulted in the shooting and injuries of Christian Oladimeji, an Assistant Superintendent of Immigration (ASI).
In a post on his official 𝕏 Twitter on Saturday, security analyst Zagazola Makama stated that the event happened on Friday at approximately 12:30 p.m.
Reports state that ASP Ibrahim Audu Paiko and his Surveillance Patrol Team from the “A” Division Police Command in Minna were on a routine patrol close to the Obasanjo Complex when they noticed a group of road construction workers carrying iron rods that they believed to be stolen.

When the workers saw the cops, they left the items behind and ran away. Other road construction workers and thugs, however, attacked the police as they were trying to retrieve the abandoned things and threw stones and other objects at them.

Also damaged in the attack was the police’s Dangote Patrol Vehicle. ASI Christian Oladimeji was unintentionally hit by a bullet that ASP Ibrahim Audu fired in an effort to scatter the crowd while he was on a motorcycle.

“She fell from the motorcycle and suffered further injuries after the bullet struck her in the lap,” the report said.

Medical staff at the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna verified that Oladimeji had a fractured waist but that no gunshot bits were still within her body after she was taken there right away.

The cops involved in the incident have been subject to disciplinary actions, and authorities have detained a number of individuals for interrogation.

Manchester United Hold Off Everton to Secure Win at Goodison Park

Manchester United, the dominant team in the Premier League, prevented a more serious crisis at Goodison Park by securing a thrilling draw at Everton with an incredible late comeback.
In the first half, Everton, led by the return of manager David Moyes, displayed excellent control and took a well-earned two-goal lead over Manchester United.
They successfully took advantage of United’s defensive weaknesses, and in the 19th minute, Beto scored his fifth goal for Moyes after a goalmouth scramble. Their lead was extended by a header from Abdoulaye Doucoure.

When Harry Maguire was unable to react promptly after Andre Onana stopped Jack Harrison’s attempt, Doucoure scored, giving Manchester United a difficult moment.
The dynamics changed when Bruno Fernandes skillfully converted a free-kick with eighteen minutes left, despite Everton’s superiority. After Everton appeared comfortable, they were taken aback when Manuel Ugarte equalized with a strong strike just eight minutes later.

Ruben Amorim, the manager of United, was spared a tough ninth league loss in 13 games thanks to the outcome. When Ashley Young was taken down by a challenge from Maguire late in the game, Everton was given a penalty, which increased emotions. But after a review by the video assistant referee, the ruling was reversed.

Despite their disappointment in not winning, Everton’s performance shows how much they’ve improved under Moyes. They had most of the game under control, but when United started to put more pressure on them, they started to show signs of exhaustion.

In the Premier League standings after the tie, West Ham United is in 16th place with 27 points from 25 games, while Manchester United is in 15th place with 30 points from 26 games.

Okonkwo Urges Tinubu: Clarify Military Coup Remarks, Apologize to Ndigbo

President Bola Tinubu has been urged by Nollywood icon Kenneth Okonkwo to apologize to the Ndigbo on behalf of the Federal Government for the atrocities committed against them.
It was reported that Okonkwo had stated unequivocally that it was incorrect and misleading to label the 1966 coup as an Igbo coup.
The former leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in a message posted on his 𝕏 Twitter on Saturday, praised General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) for the disclosure in his book, “A Journey In Service.”
The IBB’s disclosure, Barrister Okonkwo said, also demonstrated that the July 1966 coup d’retaliation and the ensuing civil war against the Ndigbo were unnecessary.

Ndigbo should be respected and treated with failure, he said, as they continue to be agents of development.

“I have consistently stated in my interviews that the events of 1966 were a military takeover rather than an Igbo takeover. It was not necessary to carry out the July 1966 vengeance coup, the pogrom, and the ensuing civil war against the Ndigbo from 1966 to 1970. Since the Ndigbo are Nigeria’s development agents, they ought to be valued and treated as such going forward.

“With the IBB’s revelation, the Federal Government under Tinubu should take advantage of the opportunity to formally apologize to the Ndigbo for all the atrocities committed against them during those dark days in Nigerian history and find appropriate reparations to make up for the needless and preventable harm done to them.” “It’s better late than never,” he commented.

Adeleke Speaks on Tinubu, Osun LG Polls, and Future Projections

Governor of Osun State Ademola Adeleke has denied allegations that he disparaged President Bola Tinubu in relation to the state’s upcoming local elections.

The people should ignore the deceptive information, he said, calling the reports untrue.
Speaking to reporters following his vote on Saturday, Governor Adeleke noted that the local government elections were made possible by President Tinubu’s adherence to the rule of law. He underlined that democratic practices have been reinforced at all governmental levels by the President’s dedication to democratic ideals.
“Let me affirm that I know Mr. President to be a true democrat, a lover of the rule of law, and a believer in the sanctity of the judicial process,” in a statement sent by his spokeswoman, Olawale Rasheed, the governor added.

“Regardless of the individuals involved, I am aware that Mr. President will never approve a dictatorial violation of the constitution.” The President would never endorse any action that has the potential to cause chaos and bloodshed, it is important to note.

“We have faith in President Tinubu’s democratic credentials, and we know that he will always insist on the rule of law,” I stated in my second broadcast on Mr. President.

He said he was sure his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), will win the elections for local government.

Babangida Confession on June 12: Can Nigerians Forget His Controversial Rule?

0

Despotic retired General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida made his book debut on Thursday, February 21, 2025, with the title “A Journey In Service-An Autobiography.” The book clearly aims to please the all-powerful God, not any individual.

It is impossible to ignore his anxiety of avoiding Aljannah if essential atonement is deserted here on earth, especially as he enjoys the twilight of his existence and believes that he is in an age range where going the mortal path is imminent.

During his book presentation in Abuja, which was attended by all known famous living victims of his misrule, the demonic military tyrant in Nigeria’s political history publicly professed a vague sense of sorrow, saying: “I regret June 12.” I acknowledge that I am solely accountable for the choices made and the events on June 12. Quick succession of errors and blunders occurred. How unfortunate that historical accident is. My declaration of contrition is something the country has a right to expect.

A sense of nostalgia for an irresponsible act of military power mongering that put the nation into an unresolved democratic and economic quagmire accompanies those skillfully chosen phrases in Babangida’s typically dishonest language.

Time teaches the value of life to Babangida, other power-hungry people, and living things, but humans only undergo transformation when confronted with the harsh realities of life. As Babangida celebrated his 83rd birthday, the tragic reality of his situation dawned. Furthermore, Bashorun Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola recently acknowledged that he had criminally annulled the June 12, 1993 presidential election, which he had won with a landslide victory. He has evaded this fact for decades in an effort to maintain his pride and his already severely damaged leadership reputation.

In a nation where the younger generation lacks a true understanding of its history, Babangida’s book launch may be dismissed as superficial. For them, it’s easy to write it off as a pattern, often carried out by political figures posing as writers to dress up history in the color of their choice.

Although the aforementioned does not rule it out, Niccolo Machiavelli probably had Babangida and possibly other Nigerian political gladiators in mind when he made the observation that “Everyone sees what you appear to be, few experience what you really are” a few decades ago. The truth that Babangida’s book launch crowd failed to confront is that he was a power-hungry political monster who led this nation and almost brought it to its knees politically and economically. This is especially true for Nigerians who were old enough to remember when he was an imperial military ruler.

With the group of outstanding brains he surrounded himself with during his imperial rule, he promoted an amazing policy theory that he never practically implemented. Babangida is actually a living illustration of the well-known adage that leaders should lead by example rather than by precept.

The harsh reality that confronts IBB today is further supported by the fact that, during the height of his political influence, he disregarded his gut feelings, which are selfless messages from his spirit. With joy, he gave in to the pleasures of the flesh. Now, reluctantly, through his autobiography, he has come out to half-heartedly confess the sad truth of how he denied Nigerians the chance to have a president in Abiola who now holds the record of winning an untainted election ever in the history of presidential elections in this country. His conscience has been giving him sleepless nights over his misrule over Nigeria, especially his misdeeds toward MKO Abiola.

Instead of directly apologizing and pleading with his own countrymen for forgiveness, IBB was occupied with using his secretary to blame General Sani Abacha and Aikhomu for allegedly releasing the annulment press statement while in Katsina state without his approval. He was aware that neither was able to defend themselves, but he nonetheless did this.

Unfortunately, and clearly in a calculated move, Babangida made sure that the majority of those who could support or refute his lies—including Arthur Nzeribe, Abimbola Davis, Clement Akpamgbo, Justices Dahiru Saleh and Bassey Ikpeme, Professors Humphrey Nwosu and Omo Omoruyi, and—most importantly—General Sani Abacha and Vice Admiral Augustus Aikhomu—were dead. Young Nigerians need to realize that Babangida is in its prime.

According to the chapter in his book that focuses on his journey to nowhere political transition policy, Nigerians should avoid IBB’s deceptive buck-passing presentations because he portrays himself as a victim of a problem that he willfully created, causing Nigerians to endure unfathomable suffering and despair in the process.

Millions of identifiable Nigerians liked IBB but did not trust him because of his cunning, gap-toothed smiles while he was in power.

That Benjamin Franklin once said, “Life’s tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late,” is confirmed by Babangida’s latest admission. The sad thing about IBB’s existence and his tenure as this nation’s military ruler is that he is growing wiser. That is, following his blatantly shady political maneuvering.

According to a quote from Alexander the Great, “what you’ve done is all that matters in the end.” For Nigerians with a detached view of history, it is important that IBB has authentic statesmanship and trustworthy leadership. His late admission is irrelevant to us; what matters is how he irrevocably damaged our political and economic landscapes with dishonest policies and his deceptive foreign-induced Structural Adjustment Program (SAP), which caused the Naira to depreciate and drove a pitiful frenzy to seek and obtain looted loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to the archives, Nigerians attempted to halt IBB’s political transformation and its economically disastrous trip.

In protest of his hostile policies and political abracadabra, yours truly was on the streets at the time alongside other patriots. In newspapers, yours myself joined other patriotic writers, journalists, and activists in penning editorials and damning articles, but the “evil genius” and his tyrannical gang disregarded us. “A body of men holding themselves accountable to nobody ought not to be trusted by anybody,” as Thomas Paine once warned, is understandable. We were forced to accept Babangida and his group, and they had no accountability to any of us. Such a ruler’s story about the annulment of June 12 or his apology should not be taken seriously.

In spite of his questionable admission, Babangida’s sorrow over the annulment of the June 12 presidential election may not go away, especially as it also resulted in his humiliating removal from office about thirty-three years ago.

He said that he was “not only in government but also in power,” and we will never forget that. In a statement, he issued a harsh warning to the millions of supporters who were and are opposing his choice at the time of the June 12 presidential election. Babangida was prepared to destroy this nation, even if it meant ruling over its ashes due to his insatiable desire for power at that particular moment in history.

“To err is human but to forgive is divine” is a divine command that Babangida may find comfort in.

Thomas Aquinas once said, “No evil can be excused because it is done with a good intention.” For the majority of morally upright Nigerians, this statement perfectly captures the injustice of the June 12 criminal annulment and the brutal removal of MKO Abiola, even if it isn’t mentioned in any fictitious national security report. The pointlessness of Babangida’s ambivalent apology at the book launch is evident here.

In this article, Sanusi, a journalist and business lawyer from Lagos, wrote.

EFCC Recovers and Returns $132,548, N78m to Fraud Victims Abroad

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reimbursed fraud victims in the US, Spain, and Switzerland a total of $132,362.43 and N78,566,324.81.

The gesture demonstrates its dedication to combating financial and economic crimes.

The EFCC’s dedication to guaranteeing justice and reparations for individuals impacted by fraudulent activities included transferring the money that was obtained from local scammers to the overseas victims.

In order to bolster Nigeria’s reputation in the international battle against financial crimes, the commission took the opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to finding financial criminals and retrieving stolen property.

The EFCC’s commitment to safeguarding local and foreign victims of fraud is demonstrated by this most recent recovery and restitution, which further solidifies its position as a key player in the battle against corruption.

The Commission’s Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, who conducted the handover yesterday in Jabi, Abuja, said in a statement on its X handle that the event “is a demonstration of the federal government of Nigeria and that of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the fight against corruption and financial crimes.”

Furthermore, according to Olukoyede, it is evidence of the administration’s dedication to economic stimulation, good governance, and proving to the world that Nigeria is not a sanctuary for financial crimes.

He went on to say as much. Through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, or EFCC, we are here to show that the Nigerian federal government is prepared to take all necessary steps to stop financial crimes from being committed within our system. Additionally, after one has occurred, it is necessary to look into the assets involved, track, recover, and, if need, prosecute.

In addition to recovering, we also restore the victims. Our purpose for being here this morning is to return the victims of financial and economic crimes. Restitution to victims is the most responsible course of action after the proceeds of crime have been recovered.

Reactions to General Ibrahim Babamosi Babangida’s (IBB) allegations have seen children of the late Military Head of State, General Sani Abacha, stand up for him.
According to reports, the late General Abacha canceled the June 12, 1993, presidential election without his consent, according to General Babangida’s book, “A Journey In Service.”

Because of the controversy surrounding the book that was released on Thursday, Abacha’s children, Sadiq Sani Abacha and Gumsu Sani Abacha, have resorted to social media to praise the late General.

His critics secretly admired his father, according to his son Sadiq. The late head of state was a better leader, he added, and history will remember that.

They have always secretly envied you, Abacha, the man. As much as they may try to discredit you, history will remember you for being a superior leader. Today, I am most proud of you as a son. According to his writing, “They wish they were half of you.”

He ended by quoting the Hausa saying, “Duk wanda yayi jifa a kasuwa,” which translates to “whoever throws a stone in the market…”

Gumsu, her daughter, continued to repost tweets on 𝕏 by defending her father’s interests.

In one of these tweets, former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani expressed remorse that the late general had not had a chance to respond to the accusations made by IBB because he was no longer alive.

Senator Sani wrote, “Sadly, Abacha is not here to give his own version of events.”
