Prince Eniola Joseph Ojajuni, the National President of the Afenifere National Youth Council, was kidnapped and has been threatened with death if the ₦100 million ransom is not paid by 3 p.m. on Monday, February 24, 2025.

In a video that went viral, Ojajuni reportedly made this clear while frantically appealing for assistance from Nigerians.
As he pleads with the public for financial support to gain his release, Ojajuni is seen in the video pointing an AK-47 at his chest.

“Help me, Nigerians!” he said. “Your contribution, whether it be N100,000, N50,000, or N1,000,000, can significantly help save my life,” he begged in the video. The name Prince Eniola Ojajuni is mine. May God bless you. Please assist me in spreading this film, Aderohunmu.
Remember how Ojajuni was shot and taken hostage in Abuja?

Nigeria’s Future Depends on Tax Reform Bills – Akpabio

Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, has highlighted the importance of the tax reform proposals that are presently being heard by the public in the Senate, characterizing them as the future of Nigeria. Assuring that the Senate would not rush the process but would thoroughly analyze each clause before enacting the measures, he emphasized the importance of getting the reforms right.

While announcing Monday’s public hearing on the tax reform bills that President Bola Tinubu submitted to both houses of the National Assembly on October 3, 2024, Akpabio brought attention to a critical problem: despite the fact that only 30% of Nigerians pay taxes, the country’s citizens expect the government to provide top-notch infrastructure, high-quality education, and national security.

Nigeria must start thinking creatively since it is not viable to stick with antiquated budgetary strategies, he said. He stated that the National Assembly will bolster its supervision duties to guarantee the effective and transparent use of public funds if the tax reform laws are approved.

Senator Akpabio advised Nigerians to avoid depending on false information from social media and instead interact with the bills in a positive way. Noting that many opponents had not even studied the laws’ contents before rejecting them, he underlined the importance of having educated conversations.

I’ll be here for two days and will be actively involved in the process because I’m sick of stories on social media. Akpabio said, “Many of our leaders have attacked the process before even seeing the content of these bills.”

He urged hearing attendees to get copies of the bills, carefully read them, and offer insightful commentary instead of relying on deceptive internet debates, which he characterized as “garbage in, garbage out.”
During the public hearing, which took place in Senate Wing Room 022, important government representatives were present, including:
The Federation’s Attorney General is Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).

Zacch Adedeji is the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) chairman.

Leading the Reform Process is the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service Senate Finance Committee.

The Senate Committee on Finance Chairman, Senator Sani Musa (APC, Niger East), gave an overview of the measures being considered in his opening remarks. He said that throughout the two days of discussions, the Nigerian Revenue Services Bill and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill will be the main topics of discussion.

Senator Musa claims that 71 distinct stakeholder groups have been asked to participate in the public hearing. He promised that after the legislation’ second reading, the Senate and the House of Representatives were prepared to take public feedback into consideration.

“The goal of these reform bills is to increase government revenue generation so that Nigeria can progress toward an advanced economy with sufficient funding for agriculture, education, and infrastructure—the three main pillars of national development,” he stated.

The following four tax reform bills are being considered:

The 2024 Nigerian Tax Bill (NTB)

Nigeria’s 2024 Tax Administration Bill (NTAB)

Bill (NRSEB) 2024: Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment)

The Establishment Joint Revenue Board Bill (JRBEB) 2024

After passing the Senate for a second reading on November 28, 2024, these bills were sent to the Committee on Finance for additional legislative review.

Osun LG Elections: PDP’s Clean Sweep of 30 Seats Sparks Reactions

Residents of Osun State have voiced concerns about the future as the political backstabbing between the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) chapters over local government management continues.

On Monday, February 17, 2025, council officials affiliated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) attempted to return to work at local government secretariats throughout the state, resulting in the deaths of six people, according to official reports from the Osun State Police Command.

Barrister Hashim Abioye, the head of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, or OSSIEC, has set Saturday, February 22, 2025, as the date of the state’s next local elections.

In a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Nigeria Police recommended that the state government not move on with the local government poll.

Citing security reports and legal ramifications, the police brought up the ruling of the Akure-based Appeal Court, which was still a point of disagreement between the state government, the Osun APC, the PDP, and the OSSIEC.

The state chapter of the APC publicly declared its withdrawal from the elections prior to the warning from the Nigeria Police.

A day prior to the election, OSSIEC was given permission by an Osun State High Court in Ilesa to hold the local government elections.

After the voting process concluded on Saturday, OSSIEC declared that the Osun PDP had won all 332 wards in the state as well as all 30 local government chairperson posts. On Sunday, February 23, 2025, it then went ahead and gave Certificates of Return to the chairmen who had won and their deputies.

Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, swore in the newly elected chairmen and their deputy members the same day.

The freshly sworn officials were also cautioned by Governor Adeleke to avoid the local government secretariats in order to avoid any conflicts.

Osun people, however, had differing opinions.

Others expressed worries about alleged malfeasance and logistical difficulties, while others commended the way the elections were conducted.

One Osogbo trader, Kemi Adeyemi, was pleased with the procedure.

“There were no problems with my vote. Even in the absence of protection, the authorities were well-organized, she claimed.

Adebayo Oladimeji, an Ilesa teacher, however, expressed annoyance at the delays.

“Voting materials did not arrive at our polling station for hours. Many folks fled because they were fatigued. The election’s credibility is damaged by this kind of ineptitude,” he said.

Some political observers argue that Governor Adeleke’s influence may have swung the election in favor of the PDP, highlighting the effect of the state government’s engagement.

“There is always potential for suspicion when the ruling party controls the electoral body. To increase confidence in the election process, the state administration needs to put in more effort, according to Sola Akintunde, a political science student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Despite the disputes, some locals have demanded harmony and advancement.

Right now, it’s important that elected officials prioritize development. We require leaders who will tackle infrastructure, education, and unemployment,” stated Funke Oladipo, an Ede civil official.

According to reports, during the election, OSSIEC Chairman Abioye expressed concern that Nigeria Police officers had closed up the commission’s Osogbo office.

Abioye further claimed in a statement later on Saturday that the harassment and detention of OSSIEC officials by police officers were the reason why polling materials failed to reach some specified polling stations, which prevented OSSIEC from conducting polls in some polling units.

Elections would start in the impacted polling places, he promised, adding that other logistical measures had been arranged.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has threatened to discontinue operations due to the government’s nonpayment of N100 billion in unpaid bridging claims, resulting in an imminent statewide fuel crisis in Nigeria.

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has yet to pay, despite promises made 40 days ago in front of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, according to Yahaya Alhasan, Chairman of the IPMAN Depot Chairmen Forum, who spoke at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, February 24, 2025.
A number of northern depots, including those in Jos, Gusau, Minna, Suleja, Kaduna, Kano, Gombe, Yola, and Maiduguri, have been totally grounded as a result of the protracted financial problem, according to Alhasan.

Alhasan issued a warning, saying, “We will take our services nationwide if NMDPRA does not pay us within seven days.”
Additionally, IPMAN denounced the NMDPRA’s 5% petroleum marketers’ charge, calling it unlawful and harmful to company operations.

By threatening to disrupt the petroleum supply nationally if President Bola Tinubu does not act by February 24, 2025, the association urged him to act immediately.

2027 Elections: Debate Rages Over Tinubu, Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso’s Prospects

0

As Nigeria approaches the 2027 presidential election, political debates and geopolitical maneuvers are becoming more intense. At the core of these developments are renowned opposition leaders Rabiu Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, and Atiku Abubakar, as well as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Strategic talks of the opposition

There is a rising recognition of the necessity of unity in the wake of the 2023 elections, in which a split opposition failed to overthrow Tinubu.

According to Ibrahim Abdullahi, the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, if the party had handled internal disputes more effectively, Obi and Kwankwaso might have stayed with the party, which could have changed the outcome of the election.

He highlighted continuing talks to build a strong coalition to take on the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

Not all observers, though, share this optimism on the opposition’s prospects.

“Even a united opposition might struggle against Tinubu’s political influence and Nigeria’s electoral system,” activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju warned Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso against investing in another presidential attempt.

Demands for wider partnerships

Some voices are urging a wider opposition coalition that goes beyond Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso. Former APC National Vice Chairman (North-West) Salihu Lukman has asked influential figures to join the opposition, including Nasir El-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, Kayode Fayemi, and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. To effectively challenge the APC’s domination, he said, personal goals must be pushed aside in favor of creating a powerful political party.

stance of the ruling party

Regarding the 2027 elections, there is a mixture of confidence and prudence inside the APC. The party is certain that President Tinubu’s administration will continue to fulfill its commitments, consolidating public support, even though it recognizes the opposition’s capacity to reorganize.

Concerns regarding Tinubu’s prospects of winning reelection were rejected by Ahmed S. Aruwa, the Kano APC Publicity Secretary. He asserts that the political career of Atiku Abubakar is coming to an end. Additionally, he denied Kwankwaso’s significance, claiming that his recent encounter with former Minister Rauf Aregbesola was only an attempt to ensure his political survival.

“Kwankwaso does not currently have a political party,” Aruwa said.

“His popularity is exaggerated in the North and is incomparable to Tinubu’s war on insecurity and economic reforms.”

What experts are stating in anticipation of 2027

There are still differing views about the probable results of the 2027 elections.

It was Abdullahi Abba, a political expert who supported an Atiku administration. He maintained that Atiku has amassed a huge network of allies and followers throughout Nigeria thanks to his lengthy political career.

“His ties within the party and the wider political landscape have been strengthened by his prior positions, including his time as Vice President,” Abba stated.

He also pointed out that Atiku’s track record of establishing partnerships across regions and ethnic groups enhances his attractiveness as a candidate who can bring people together. He cautioned, though, that internal party dynamics might present difficulties.

In the PDP, factionalism could result from the goals of other powerful individuals, including Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde. The success of Atiku will depend on how well these dynamics are managed.

A political scientist from Bayero University Kano named Dr. Sa’id Dukawa adopted a more comprehensive stance, predicting that the 2027 election will be a full-scale conflict in which all significant parties will be actively involved.

Political connections and cross-carpeting have never been stronger. “2027 will be a game-changer, and politicians are getting ready early,” Dukawa said.

Views of the public and the future

Nigerians’ expectations are still divided as political scheming heats up. A government that can successfully address corruption, economic instability, and insecurity is still something that many residents want.

Echoing the growing mood of the public, he stated that unless there are notable improvements, it might be challenging for Tinubu to hold onto power.

Nigerians are still the ones who make the final decisions when coalitions are formed and plans are developed. They intend to replace Tinubu’s administration in 2027 with a more promising candidate if they do not see the transformation they voted for.

The upcoming years are expected to be extremely active as the opposition and the ruling party prepare for the pivotal conflict that lies ahead, given how quickly the political landscape is changing.

War Against Injustice Executive Director Umar Ibrahim Umar thinks Tinubu’s chances in 2027 could be threatened by the economic hardship brought on by his reforms.

“Rather than providing relief, the economic reforms have caused more hardship.” “Since then, the policies have not been more lenient,” Umar stated.

Following Tinubu’s inauguration on May 29, the first significant economic policy that Nigerians opposed was the increased cost of gasoline, which a few Keke Napep riders voiced their displeasure over.

According to Kano reports, they expressed a great deal of resentment over having to terminate their higher-purchase agreements due to their inability to reach their daily goals.

According to one rider, “a liter of gasoline now costs over ₦1,000, and it doesn’t even last.”

Another said, “We’re trying to find food. Does anyone have time to cast a ballot?

Many Nigerians are not convinced that the current government should be re-elected, even in light of increased efforts by APC leaders and Tinubu’s cabinet members, as well as news of food costs in some Northern Nigerian marketplaces plummeting.

They are now contemplating options from the PDP, NNPP, or possibly the LP due to the current uncertainties.

Before escorting six members of the congregation to an unidentified location, the assailants reportedly shot the pastor, Apostle Divine Omodia, and severed two of his fingers, according to witnesses.
The pastor was taken to the hospital, where medical professionals are fighting for his life. No one has been contacted by the kidnappers for ransom after the attack.
Since the event, the kidnappers have not contacted to demand a ransom to free the victims they kidnapped, according to a source, who spoke on Sunday.

APC Criticizes El-Rufai’s Political Moves, Labels Him ‘Overrated Ethnic Champion

Ahead of the general elections in 2027, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has charged Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate previous governor of Kaduna State, with inflaming ethnic tensions and conspiring to unseat President Bola Tinubu.

The charge was made on Sunday by Ajibola Basiru, the national secretary of the APC, who said that El-Rufai’s actions were motivated by his annoyance at not being appointed as a minister in Tinubu’s government.

On security grounds, the National Assembly rejected El-Rufai, a former minister of the Federal Capital Territory, notwithstanding his initial nomination for a cabinet seat.

Since then, the former governor has apparently been meeting with important northern political personalities, including opposition leaders, and his relationship with President Tinubu has deteriorated.

Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 2023 presidential contender and former vice president, has spoken with El-Rufai in recent weeks.

In anticipation of the upcoming election cycle, his developing relationship with Atiku has stoked rumors of a potential political realignment.

El-Rufai went with Atiku’s group last Friday to pay their respects to the family of Chief Edwin Clark, a prominent Niger Delta leader and elder statesman. During the visit, El-Rufai spoke and commended Atiku’s role in the economic changes that were implemented in Nigeria under Olusegun Obasanjo.

The former governor and Atiku joined in the Juma’at prayer after the visit, which strengthened rumors of their developing political partnership.

El-Rufai held a meeting with the PDP’s Kaduna State executive committee on Saturday, stepping up his interactions with the opposition.

In the run-up to 2027, the closed-door meeting, which was attended by his former chief of staff, Bashir Saidu, has stoked discussions about possible bipartisan collaboration.

Speaking about El-Rufai’s political maneuvers, APC National Secretary Basiru stated that the party has stopped following him since learning that he is “an overrated ethnic champion” who is constantly willing to put northern politicians against their southern counterparts.

The party writer blasted El-Rufai for his recent friendship with leading opposition individuals and his ongoing role as the North’s spokesperson.

We are worried about our issues in the APC, as I have stated previously and will do again,” he remarked. In Nigeria, parties have free access and free departure. Therefore, anyone who wishes to leave is free to do so. For present, however, we will not honor such actions with any remarks.

We recognize that certain individuals are motivated by sectional politics. El-Rufai, regrettably, is promoting the ethnic nationality agenda rather than considering the advancement of the nation. He has always been overrated as a person, as evidenced by this South against North stance.

Basiru pointed to El-Rufai’s complaint when he said, “The only thing we want to say is that governance is a serious matter and nobody has the birthright to be an appointee of government.” Many of the more than 180 million Nigerians who live there are eligible. So, you shouldn’t run around trying to become an emergency activist just because you don’t have the chance to serve in a government. As previously stated, politics is a free-for-all. The APC is strong, and we are moving forward.

In light of the escalating hostilities, El-Rufai has publicly attacked the APC, claiming that the party lacks internal democracy.

Archbishop Chukwuma Blasts IBB Over ‘Insulting’ June 12 Confession

It has been requested that the Federal Government recognize and pay tribute to the late Prof. Humphrey Nwosu, who was responsible for the legitimacy of the June 12, 1993, election that was canceled.

Yesterday in Enugu, retired Archbishop of Enugu Province (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Emmanuel Chukwuma, made the plea and demanded that General Ibrahim Babangida (rtd), the former military head of state, be held accountable for the crimes he admitted to committing against Nigeria.
Nwosu, who presided over the National Electoral Commission (NEC) at the time and supervised the historic election held on June 12 that Babangida canceled, died on October 24, 2024, without being honored nationally for his patriotic service. The date of his burial is March 28.

At his recent book launch, Archbishop Chukwuma responded to Babangida’s confession by denouncing the government’s and Nigerians’ silence on Nwosu, who he claimed was instrumental in the election that is now known as Democracy Day.

Humphrey Nwosu is now deceased, and although it is widely accepted that he presided over Nigeria’s most credible election, he received no national honor. Abiola and Kingibe were honored, while the man who ran the election was disregarded. Chukwuma said that Humphrey Nwosu had been treated unfairly by Nigeria.

Nwosu should receive a posthumous national award, he demanded, and the government should erect a monument in his honor. Additionally, he asked that his burial be handled by the federal government.

All of Babangida’s statements in his book, including his sorrow and admission that MKO Abiola won the election on June 12, are complete and utter bullshit! It is an insult to Nigerians and a huge letdown.

“If I had my way, IBB should be imprisoned for uttering such a statement after defrauding the entire nation.”

He also denounced Babangida’s assertion that the election should be canceled for Nigeria’s sake, calling it a flagrant fabrication.

In his own words: “We still can’t hold a credible election, and Nigerians are suffering today due to poor leadership.” Babangida confesses too late, after Abiola and Nwosu have passed away. He ought to express regret to their families as well as the Nigerian people.

In the Dutsinma local government region of the State, armed bandits attempted to attack the Dutsinma-Kurfi road, but were successfully repelled by the Nigeria Police Force’s Katsina State command.
The incident occurred early on Sunday, February 23, 2025, when claimed bandits targeted on-duty members of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), according to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.
According to him, officers from the Dutsinma Divisional Police Headquarters hurried to the scene of an emergency call at around 12:57 in the morning.

When a shootout started, the robbers were forced to flee, and some of them were wounded by the gunfire.
As security personnel searched the area, they discovered the body of one neutralized suspected robber.

Investigative efforts have been intensified by the police to apprehend the fugitives.

The community was thus reassured by the Police Command of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding people and property across the State.

In the meantime, inhabitants of Sokoto State’s Sabon Birni Local Government Area are reportedly in trouble due to an excessive demand from Bello Turji, a known bandit commander.

In response to the death of one of their members and the confiscation of weaponry during a recent altercation with security authorities, the gang reportedly levied a ₦25 million tax on the towns.

Furthermore, the locals are frantically trying to raise ₦3 million in order to secure the release of 12 worshippers who were kidnapped by the thieves and taken from four different villages.

According to Vanguard, the Sokoto State House of Assembly representative for Sabon Birni East, Hon. Ibrahim Saidu Naino, has confirmed that each of the 12 kidnapped believers has been held hostage for ₦250,000.

Turji’s group has requested a large tax from the communities, which is paying for this ransom.

Naino described the events in detail, stating that locals had retaliated against the attackers with military assistance, killing one of them and taking out some weapons in the process.

The armed gang retaliated by imposing a monetary penalty, which they presented as recompense for their losses.
