Breaking: PDP Moves to Court Over Oborevwori, Okowa’s Defection

When Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Vice-Presidential candidate Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire PDP structure in Delta State defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the PDP leadership ordered its Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade to quickly prepare legal procedures to contest their defection.
On April 23, 2025, Governor Oborevwori, Okowa, and other influential members of the PDP’s Delta State chapter reportedly defected from the opposition party and vowed to back the APC, causing a significant change in political allegiance that led to the directive.
Since these politicians were first elected on the PDP platform, the national leadership of the party has pledged to regain its mandate through legal means.

The party’s determination to contest the defection in court was reaffirmed by Acting National Chairman Amb Umar Damagum following the first National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of the year.
“We are willing to pursue legal action in order to recover our property. “Justice will be served, and these people were elected on our platform,” Damagum declared.

According to him, the PDP has already given the duty of assuming Delta State’s leadership structure to Emma Ogidi, the Caretaker Chairman for the South-South zone.

Additionally, Ogidi will look for new party leaders, ignoring the current leadership under Chief Dan Orbih, whose authority has now been eclipsed by the defection.

Deputy Governor Monday Onyeme, state commissioners, local government chairmen, and grassroots machinery are among the prominent PDP individuals who have defected to the APC following a closed-door meeting in Asaba.

Known as the “Hurricane Tinubu,” this political realignment has rocked the PDP’s long-standing position in Delta State, one of its strongholds.

Opposition leaders are worried that this action could be a symptom of a hazardous trend toward a one-party state, which would undermine democracy.

To address the consequences of the defections and decide on the party’s next course of action in upholding its mandate, the PDP has set May 27, 2025, as the date of its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

Fresh Attack in Plateau: 37 Cattle Shot Dead by Gunmen

According to reports, at least 37 livestock were murdered in Plateau State’s Tashek hamlet within the Riyom local government area.
Ibrahim Yusuf Babayo, speaking on behalf of the state branch of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), stated that the incident happened at approximately 1:00 PM.
According to Naija News, the most recent attack comes just after a similar incident in the Tanjol hamlet, which is located in Riyom LGA, where gunmen targeted herders, killing five livestock and injuring two.
The chairman denounced the assault as unprovoked and said that the attackers had planned it to serve a secret purpose.

According to Babayo, 37 livestock were killed and a herder was injured when the attackers broke into the area and started shooting at the grazing cattle.

He immediately reported the occurrence to the sector commander of Operation Safe Haven in Riyom, which resulted in the dispatch of troops to the scene for evaluation.

The chairman added that he had informed the state’s security agency leaders, including the State Director of Security (SDS), the police commissioner, the commander of OPSH, and the General Officer Commanding the 3rd Division, all of whom acknowledged the report and cautioned against enforcing the law on our own while the criminals are being apprehended.

“We called on members to remain calm despite the attacks,” Babayo said, claiming that attacks on herders and their cattle had been a daily occurrence.

We think it’s a deliberate attempt to weaken our economy and leave us exposed, especially in light of the recent attacks.

Both the Viewer’s Choice award for Mohbad’s work with Chike on the popular song “Egwu” and Best Street Music (Street-hop Artiste) of the Year were given to him posthumously. While accepting the honor on his behalf, Omowunmi gave a moving statement in which she considered her husband’s lasting impact. According to her, Mohbad lives on, especially through their small son Liam; thus, she doesn’t want to call him her “late husband.”

He claimed, “I didn’t really realize what was happening to me onstage until I got to the hospital in an ambulance and fussed that it happened onstage, by the way, because I didn’t want it to happen,” and the doctor stated, “You had a massive heart attack,” leaning over my ear.

“I didn’t realize it because I didn’t have any of the symptoms they mention.”

There was no severe pain, no numbness, nothing. I simply fell asleep to some extent. I nearly died, but I couldn’t identify what it was.

According to the doctor, I would have died by the time I arrived five minutes later.

“There was no more blood flowing to the right side of my heart at all.”

According to former Labour Party Chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo, President Bola Tinubu can only be overthrown by a coalition in 2027.
In 2027, Okonkwo reportedly stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress would be too strong for the two opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).
According to the Nollywood icon, LP under Julius Abure is the APC’s housemaid, while PDP is the APC’s servant of servants, in an interview with Arise News on Monday.

“A Tinubu cannot be won if they do not unite. Therefore, don’t blame the ruling party if they are unable to cooperate. PDP is now a servant of servants, while LP is an APC housemaid under Abure.

So you wouldn’t hold the APC accountable if they destroyed the opposition by using inducement. But you’d blame the APC for not providing decent government to Nigerians,” he continued.
In order to remove President Tinubu, a coalition is required, the former APC chieftain emphasized. Okonkwo claimed that Tinubu should not be permitted to serve a second term since his administration was worse than any other.

An open primary election should be held once the coalition is formed, according to the Nollywood mythology. He asserts that whoever wins the primary, whether from the North or the South, must consent to serve Tinubu for just four years.

Given how awful Tinubu has become, would you say that if he were to be in office for another four years, we would continue to descend into even more poverty and suffering, as per the World Bank report? Would you agree it won’t be unfair if a Northerner starts the rule in the middle of the game and stays for eight years? It certainly will.

“Let’s hold an open primary election in a North-South coalition; whoever wins will serve for four years.” A Southerner who wins has to commit to serving for four years in order to finish Tinubu’s government. Allow a Northerner to win for four years before it moves back to the South. He said, “Because that is the only way we can stop this government that has gotten sickly bad.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been the target of significant accusations from former Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo, who claims the electoral organization manipulated the results of the general elections in 2023.
In an interview on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Okonkwo asserted that the results credited to Peter Obi of LP were “written” and “allocated” by INEC rather than representing the real votes cast.
He emphasized that the election results, especially in Lagos and Rivers States, were purposefully manipulated.

In a state like Lagos State, he claims, the LP candidate received nearly a million votes to win the presidency, but INEC lowered his score, while the results in Rivers were changed and rewritten to benefit the All Progressives Congress.
“There is no explanation to it until today,” he stated. Remember how I stated they wrote the results? Obi received the outcome that was put down for him. Proceed to Rivers State.

“No, the court is not telling you they wrote, or they did not write,” Okonkwo responded, echoing the Supreme Court’s decision that declared Tinubu and the APC the winners of the presidential election. “Yes, that is what it ought to be,” the former LP man responded when asked why his party was unable to allocate polling unit agents across the country’s polling units. Even the Electoral Act acknowledges that not all parties would have the funds to place agents in every polling station, which is why the word “may” is used throughout the law.

Why would you need an agent if you are working under an INEC that is honest and won’t tamper with the results? To plan the Nigerian election, INEC raised 400 billion naira.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has cautioned that continued attempts to undermine the PDP could be a sign of Nigeria’s democracy’s demise.
At the PDP Local Government Congress in Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State, Lamido, who had been elected as a National Delegate, remarked that the way members were leaving the party was “very ominous” for the nation’s future.

He stated, “My people wisely chose me to be a delegate, not because I needed it, but because experience is necessary in this situation.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police, and security services are among the important institutions that Lamido said are being used in what he called a concerted attack on the opposition.
He said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other government institutions were being used by President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine and frighten opposition forces.

It is natural for the APC to oppose the PDP as a political party, but it is problematic when the APC-controlled Federal Government utilizes national institutions to suppress the opposition. The President and the administration are battling us, not just the APC members,” Lamido stated.

Democracy, Lamido emphasized, is predicated on freedom, liberty, and a genuine opposition.

The opposition is vital to Nigeria’s democracy. He warned that defeating the PDP would lead Nigeria to self-destruction rather than just destroying a party.

The PDP is Nigeria’s most organized and people-driven political platform, he said, and he urged resentful politicians to rejoin.

“You destroy the nation if you destroy the opposition,” Lamido said in his conclusion.
