An emotional tribute was given by Omowunmi during the 17th Headies Awards.
The event was held on April 27 at Lagos’s Landmark Event Centre.
Both the Viewer’s Choice award and Best Street Music (Street-hop Artiste) of the Year were given to Mohbad after his death.
During Sunday, April 27, at the Landmark Event Centre in Lagos, Omowunmi, the widow of the late Nigerian musician Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, brought the audience to tears with an emotional tribute.

Both the Viewer’s Choice award for Mohbad’s work with Chike on the popular song “Egwu” and Best Street Music (Street-hop Artiste) of the Year were given to him posthumously. While accepting the honor on his behalf, Omowunmi gave a moving statement in which she considered her husband’s lasting impact. According to her, Mohbad lives on, especially through their small son Liam; thus, she doesn’t want to call him her “late husband.”

Movingly, she shared her conviction that even while Liam is still too young to completely comprehend the scope of his father’s legacy, he will eventually learn to recognize and value the enormous influence Mohbad had on the world.
She expressed her gratitude for the prize on behalf of her son Liam, her husband Adura, their younger sibling, and the entire Imonelization family.
“Even though Mohbad isn’t with us anymore, he lives on,” she continued. I dislike calling him my late husband since, because to our son Liam, he lives on eternally. He might not yet understand the full extent of his father’s magnificence, but I am confident that he will eventually. Headies, thank you so much. I’m grateful that you brought my hubby to light. We appreciate your observance of his legacy and memory. I, his son, and the entire Imonelization find great significance in it.

Mohbad’s music’s enduring impact and the deep affection that still surrounds his legacy were highlighted by Omowunmi’s moving homage.

In Dallas, Texas, Bishop T.D. Jakes, the Senior Pastor of Potter’s House, has given his daughter and son-in-law leadership of the congregation.
Weeks after reportedly having a huge heart attack while preaching at the church, Jakes made the announcement on Sunday morning, April 27, 2025.
The clergy acknowledged that being admitted to the hospital following a severe heart attack while performing was a factor in their choice.

Pastor Sarah Jakes Roberts and Toure Roberts, T.D. Jakes’ daughter and son-in-law, will assume leadership of The Potter’s House in July, according to Jakes, who founded the organization in 1996.

“You have been faithful to God and to me,” he continued. I am really appreciative.

“After November in particular, I cannot afford to take the chance of something going wrong and you being a sheep without a shepherd.”
According to Sarah Jakes Roberts, “I am honored and thankful to be your daughter.

“I’m delighted that you’ll be able to rest.”

The huge heart attack was described by Jakes in an interview with American broadcaster Craig Melvin on the TODAY show.

Even though Jakes said he had no signs of a cardiac arrest, physicians later informed him that he was preaching while only half of his heart was functioning.

He claimed, “I didn’t really realize what was happening to me onstage until I got to the hospital in an ambulance and fussed that it happened onstage, by the way, because I didn’t want it to happen,” and the doctor stated, “You had a massive heart attack,” leaning over my ear.

“I didn’t realize it because I didn’t have any of the symptoms they mention.”

There was no severe pain, no numbness, nothing. I simply fell asleep to some extent. I nearly died, but I couldn’t identify what it was.

According to the doctor, I would have died by the time I arrived five minutes later.

“There was no more blood flowing to the right side of my heart at all.”

During the 17th Headies Awards on Sunday night, Annie, a Nollywood actress and the estranged wife of Nigerian music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, formally stated their divorce.
After remaining silent on the matter for several months, the actress reportedly spoke up when she co-presented the Best Afrobeat Singer of the Year award.
Following his legendary performance at the 2024 Ojude Oba festival, Farooq Oreagba—widely hailed as the “King of Steeze”—shared the stage with her.
Annie swiftly corrected her name after pausing to speak it during her introduction, making it obvious that she had changed her status.

“Idi Annie… Ah! I apologize, Macaulay Annie. Women without partners, take note! The audience cheered and applauded enthusiastically as she made her announcement.

This official confirmation follows speculation earlier in the year when Annie reappeared on social media in March, around two months after 2Baba declared their split, signing off with her full name, Annie Uwana Macaulay, prominently excluding the Idibia last name.

When 2Baba announced their separation, the ex-couple, who have two children together, formally called it quits on their marriage in January 2025.

Two Baba has moved on since the split and made a proposal to Natasha Osawaru, a legislator from Edo State. Many people in Benue State are speculating about an impending wedding because he has also introduced her to his family and community.

Women’s Champions League Final Confirmed: Arsenal vs FC Barcelona

With a stunning 4-1 comeback victory over Lyon, Arsenal advanced to the Women’s Champions League final for the first time in nearly 20 years, winning 5-3 overall.
Lyon, who finished second the year before, led 2-1 going into the second leg. But Christiane Endler accidentally gave up an own goal early in the game, which gave Arsenal the equalizer.
After this, Mariona Caldentey gave Arsenal the lead just before halftime with a masterfully performed shot. After the interval, Alessia Russo scored a third goal to increase the lead.

Arsenal’s match ended in tension after Daelle Melchie Dumornay scored for Lyon with less than ten minutes left, despite Caitlin Foord’s goal appearing to have sealed the lead. At Lisbon’s Estadio Jose Alvalade on May 24, the club will be ready to play Barcelona, the two-time defending champions.
For Arsenal, this accomplishment is especially significant because it has been eighteen years since they last made it to the Champions League final.

Although Lyon’s performance in the game was unexpected, Arsenal’s planning and execution were excellent.

“We were unbelievable in a high-pressure moment against a top opponent,” said coach Renee Slegers, who was proud of her team’s ability to handle pressure with a strong opponent.

“How serene we were—so much effort went into this game, and I’m very pleased.”

“Happy for everybody. Ecstasy, such a unique moment. We should be grateful for these unique times while maintaining our humility and preparing for the next one.

Okonkwo Blasts PDP, Says LP Under Abure Is Now APC’s Housemaid

According to former Labour Party Chieftain Kenneth Okonkwo, President Bola Tinubu can only be overthrown by a coalition in 2027.
In 2027, Okonkwo reportedly stated that the ruling All Progressives Congress would be too strong for the two opposition parties, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party (LP).
According to the Nollywood icon, LP under Julius Abure is the APC’s housemaid, while PDP is the APC’s servant of servants, in an interview with Arise News on Monday.

“A Tinubu cannot be won if they do not unite. Therefore, don’t blame the ruling party if they are unable to cooperate. PDP is now a servant of servants, while LP is an APC housemaid under Abure.

So you wouldn’t hold the APC accountable if they destroyed the opposition by using inducement. But you’d blame the APC for not providing decent government to Nigerians,” he continued.
In order to remove President Tinubu, a coalition is required, the former APC chieftain emphasized. Okonkwo claimed that Tinubu should not be permitted to serve a second term since his administration was worse than any other.

An open primary election should be held once the coalition is formed, according to the Nollywood mythology. He asserts that whoever wins the primary, whether from the North or the South, must consent to serve Tinubu for just four years.

“Now that we are halfway through the game, it is a completely different situation in 2027. Even if the North claims he will spend eight years, it would still be against the deal if you said you wanted to bring in a Southerner who is not Tinubu. Given how awful Tinubu has become, would you say that if he were to be in office for another four years, we would continue to descend into even more poverty and suffering, as per the World Bank report? Would you agree it won’t be unfair if a Northerner starts the rule in the middle of the game and stays for eight years? It certainly will.

“Let’s hold an open primary election in a North-South coalition; whoever wins will serve for four years.” A Southerner who wins has to commit to serving for four years in order to finish Tinubu’s government. Allow a Northerner to win for four years before it moves back to the South. He said, “Because that is the only way we can stop this government that has gotten sickly bad.”

NEC: ‘The Result Given To Peter Obi Was Allocated To Him’ – Okonkwo

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been the target of significant accusations from former Labour Party (LP) presidential campaign spokesperson Kenneth Okonkwo, who claims the electoral organization manipulated the results of the general elections in 2023.
In an interview on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, Okonkwo asserted that the results credited to Peter Obi of LP were “written” and “allocated” by INEC rather than representing the real votes cast.
He emphasized that the election results, especially in Lagos and Rivers States, were purposefully manipulated.

In a state like Lagos State, he claims, the LP candidate received nearly a million votes to win the presidency, but INEC lowered his score, while the results in Rivers were changed and rewritten to benefit the All Progressives Congress.
“There is no explanation to it until today,” he stated. Remember how I stated they wrote the results? Obi received the outcome that was put down for him. Proceed to Rivers State.

“No, the court is not telling you they wrote, or they did not write,” Okonkwo responded, echoing the Supreme Court’s decision that declared Tinubu and the APC the winners of the presidential election. The court has informed you that “you failed to provide the evidence to demonstrate substantial evidence that they wrote.” Where are you going to present the evidence?

“Yes, that is what it ought to be,” the former LP man responded when asked why his party was unable to allocate polling unit agents across the country’s polling units. Even the Electoral Act acknowledges that not all parties would have the funds to place agents in every polling station, which is why the word “may” is used throughout the law.

Why would you need an agent if you are working under an INEC that is honest and won’t tamper with the results? To plan the Nigerian election, INEC raised 400 billion naira.

Those Joining APC Out Of Fear Will Regret It – Lamido

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and former governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has cautioned that continued attempts to undermine the PDP could be a sign of Nigeria’s democracy’s demise.
At the PDP Local Government Congress in Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State, Lamido, who had been elected as a National Delegate, remarked that the way members were leaving the party was “very ominous” for the nation’s future.

He stated, “My people wisely chose me to be a delegate, not because I needed it, but because experience is necessary in this situation.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the police, and security services are among the important institutions that Lamido said are being used in what he called a concerted attack on the opposition.
He said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other government institutions were being used by President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to undermine and frighten opposition forces.

It is natural for the APC to oppose the PDP as a political party, but it is problematic when the APC-controlled Federal Government utilizes national institutions to suppress the opposition. The President and the administration are battling us, not just the APC members,” Lamido stated.

Democracy, Lamido emphasized, is predicated on freedom, liberty, and a genuine opposition.

The opposition is vital to Nigeria’s democracy. He warned that defeating the PDP would lead Nigeria to self-destruction rather than just destroying a party.

He went on, “It is self-destruction to use the EFCC and other agencies to weaken and intimidate opposition parties.” Fearful people who join the APC will come to regret it.

Numerous disillusioned lawmakers would soon rejoin the PDP, the former minister added, calling the ongoing defections to the APC a “suicidal alliance.”

The PDP is Nigeria’s most organized and people-driven political platform, he said, and he urged resentful politicians to rejoin.

“You destroy the nation if you destroy the opposition,” Lamido said in his conclusion.

APC Demands Apology from VeryDarkMan Within a Week for ‘Slandering’ Akpabio

Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, has received a severe warning from the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South Zonal leadership, who seek an apology from him within seven days for what they say was an insulting outburst directed at Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The South-South Zonal Organizing Secretary, Blessing Agbomhere, issued a statement on Sunday in which the APC advised the social media influencer to avoid making any more attacks on the former Akwa Ibom governor and warned him to make a distinction between defamation and activism.
The response from Agbomhere comes after VeryDarkMan’s widely shared video in which he criticized Akpabio for joining the federal government group traveling to the Vatican to attend Pope Francis’ death.

The influencer described Akpabio’s journey to Rome as “shameful” in the roughly three-minute video, contending that the Senate President ought to have been to states that have lately had violent attacks, including as Benue, Plateau, Kwara, Ogun, and Enugu.
But the APC leader objected to the comments, saying VeryDarkMan was defaming Akpabio in the name of activism.

“VeryDarkMan is becoming notorious for blackmail, slander, and character assassination while posing as a social crusader and advocate for the masses,” he said. the unjustified verbal abuse directed at Nigeria’s third-ranking citizen, who was duly selected by the president to head a delegation to represent Nigeria but chose not to travel to Rome. What specifically is wrong with that?

Agbomhere also supported the Senate President’s pick to represent Nigeria in the Vatican, emphasizing that Akpabio was a good fit due to his reputation and faith.

“As a devoted Catholic and a man of unwavering moral character, President Tinubu saw in Akpabio a worthy ambassador of Nigeria to such an event as the Pope’s funeral and wasted no time in thrusting that responsibility on him,” he said. What’s wrong with that?”

“I am, with this statement, issuing VeryDarkMan a one-week ultimatum to immediately tender an unreserved apology to the Senate president for the slanderous comments and to desist from further bringing the integrity of the President Bola Tinubu led administration into disrepute in the eyes of the global community,” Agbomhere said, highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

The APC veteran also urged Nigerians to ignore what he called VeryDarkMan’s “uninformed ranting,” claiming that the administration is working hard to solve the nation’s security issues, many of which were passed down from their parents.

Agbomhere emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s dedication, saying, “After returning from France and the UK, Tinubu met with the security chiefs and gave them marching orders to ensure that a different approach is deployed in the fight against insecurity.” Does this man seem unconcerned about safeguarding Nigerians’ lives and property?
“Remember that the complicated security issues in Nigeria cannot be wished away with a wave of the hand; it takes time to achieve a semblance of peace, and that is a commitment that the Tinubu-led administration made to Nigerians while assuming office and is still committed to achieving,” he said in closing, reminding the populace that resolving them would require patience and consistent effort.

Finidi George, the technical adviser for Rivers United, admitted that Kano Pillars had earned their win in the Matchday 35 match.
The Pride of Rivers lost to Kano Pillars 2-0 on Friday at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, according to reports. Ahmed Musa and Rabiu Ali scored the goals.
Finidi stated that for the rest of the season, his team will focus on earning as many points as possible in their next home games.
“Kano Pillars deserved to win if we look at the overall performance with the chances created,” Finidi said in an interview conducted after the game.

“We must return and see how we can win our home games, which I am 100% sure we can do.”

Rivers United, with 58 points, is still in second place in the league standings.

In the meantime, Kano Pillars’ thrilling 2-0 victory over Rivers United on April 25 puts Remo Stars one victory away from winning their first Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) championship.

Kano Pillars played well throughout the NPFL game at Sani Abacha Stadium, forcing a goal from Ahmed Musa in the 64th minute to break the tie.

Rabiu Ali’s penalty kick in the 76th minute guaranteed the victory, which was a major triumph for Pillars. After 35 games and this defeat, Rivers United is now at 58 points.

The Remo Stars, who have 65 points from 34 games, are in first place and need only one victory to win the title, so their upcoming game is crucial.

Remo Stars are in a coveted position as a result of their steady play throughout the season.

Explosion in Rivers State Claims Five Lives

An explosion at a residential home in Rivers State’s Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) killed at least five people.
On Saturday, April 26, the Youths and Environmental Advocacy Centre (YEAC-Nigeria) reported an explosion and fire.
In a statement made on Saturday, the Executive Director of YEAC-Nigeria, Dr. Fyneface Dumnamene Fyneface, said, “The incident occurred at around 11 a.m., claiming the lives of five persons—four females and one male—who were burnt beyond recognition.”

Investigate and exercise caution.
Fyneface requested authorities to thoroughly examine the event and warned residents and youngsters against pipeline vandalism, crude oil theft, artisanal refining, and dealing in illegally refined petroleum products.
His words were: “We warn residents against home storage of illegal petroleum products to avoid ugly incidents of this nature.”

Fyneface also renewed demands on the Federal Government to legalise artisanal refineries in the Niger Delta through the proposed Presidential Artisanal Crude Oil Refining Development Initiative (PACORDI) or Modular Refineries for Artisanal Refiners to help mitigate such disasters.

Police confirm an incident.
Grace Iringe-Koko, Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, verified the explosion.

Iringe-Koko told Vanguard, “It was a condensate kerosene product that was held for sale. Someone brought a lit burner near the location where the product was stored to cook Indomie, which started the fire.”

She stated that four people had been verified dead as a result of the explosion and assured that “the police will investigate the matter.”
