Two Convicted of Armed Robbery, Sentenced to Death by Hanging

0

On Thursday, the Abeokuta High Court condemned two men to death by hanging and one to 21 years in prison for armed robbery and attempted murder.

The convicts, Wale Adedeji, Akeem Sulaimon, and Wahabi Idowu, were found guilty and condemned on four counts of conspiracy, armed robbery, and attempted murder.

Justice Olugboyega Ogunfowora stated in his decision that the court was convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused committed the charges.

Ogunfowora ruled the accused guilty as charged and sentenced the trio to 14 years each on counts one and two for conspiracy and armed robbery.

He sentenced Idowu to 21 years on counts four and five of conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder.

The judge then condemned Adedeji and Sulaimon to death by hanging, while Idowu received 21 years in prison with hard labor.

Earlier, the Prosecuting Counsel, Mrs Bolariwa Adebowale, informed the court that the convicts committed the offences on October 29, 2018, at 12:30 a.m., at No 40 Merroy Road, Safari Junction Onikolobo area in Abeokuta.

Adebowale claimed that the prisoners, armed with knives and a cutlass, broke into Mr Rasheed Fajinmi’s home, attempted to murder him, and stole his Ford Jeep with the registration number MUS 769FF.

She further stated that the offenders took the complainant’s clothes, shoes, four mobile phones, two ATM cards, jewelry, a 32-inch plasma screen, and N64,000.

She further claimed that the prisoners robbed Miss Boluwatife Fajinmi of her iPhone, five Nokia phones, and wristwatches.

According to the counsel, the acts violated sections 21(b) and 1(1)(a)(5) of the 2016 law prohibiting forceful entry, occupation of landed estates, armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and other anti-violence and associated offences.

She further stated that the offences violated Sections 324 and 320 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Mass Defections: Ganduje Reveals Why PDP Members Are Flocking to APC

0

All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje has asserted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the primary opposition party, is “gasping for breath” as a result of the ruling party’s performance and political acumen.
At Thursday’s APC National Summit held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Ganduje said he was confident the APC would win the next Federal Capital Territory (FCT) election.
He said this was due to the party’s effectiveness and political strategy, implying that the APC was ready for the election.

Additionally, Ganduje talked about the difficulties the PDP is currently facing and blamed internal infighting and defections for its deteriorating standing.

He underlined the importance of these defections, suggesting that the discontent with the PDP’s internal conflicts and leadership issues is reflected in the APC’s expanding membership base.

The APC chairman cited the party’s attainment of 22 of Nigeria’s 36 states as evidence of its political clout. Ganduje went on to say that another governor would likely join the APC shortly, highlighting the party’s growing power.

Talking about the APC’s future plans, Ganduje pointed to the party’s triumph in the most recent off-cycle elections as a sign of things to come.

In order to set itself up for future victories in the general elections in 2027, he said the APC was already getting ready for the next elections in Anambra State and other states.

Senator Kingibe Explains Support for Wike’s N1 Trillion FCT Budget

Online attacks on Senator Ireti Kingibe of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for supporting Nyesom Wike’s 2025 budget have been denounced.
Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, reportedly defended a ₦1.78 trillion proposed budget for the capital city before the Senate and House of Representatives on Wednesday.
A member of the Labour Party, Senator Kingibe, praised the fact that capital expenditures account for 70% of the budget.

Her online followers had conflicting feelings about her support for the budget, arguing that the ₦1.78 trillion budget was excessive.

The MP from the Labour Party stressed that her internet followers must set aside their political disagreements and prioritize the common good.
She emphasized that among other important issues, the proposed budget aimed to address housing, health, education, and infrastructure issues that affect residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

It said: “In a widely shared viral video, I was seen endorsing the budget that the Honourable Minister of the FCT had submitted. Even though some people are talking about this, I think it’s important to make my stance clear.

As everyone is aware, I am the kind of senator who always speaks the truth. The idea that doing what is right, not what is popular or politically convenient, should always be my compass.

We must occasionally set aside our political disagreements in order to concentrate on our shared objective, which is the advancement and welfare of our people. I hope that the FCT budget will address some of the long-standing problems that my constituents face, which is why I support it. A well-executed budget should have less than 30% allocated to personnel and overheads and more than 70% allocated to capital projects.

“There are certain pressing needs that cannot wait.” Our healthcare and education systems require significant attention, our youth require opportunities and meaningful empowerment, and our brothers and sisters in IDP camps require improved living circumstances and support. Political talking points are not what these are. These are the realities that many of our people deal with on a daily basis.

I’m hoping that this budget will be a positive action. It can enhance the life of our people in the FCT and provide some alleviation if properly executed. At every stage, I will continue to demand responsibility and openness because I am still committed to the people.

Keep in mind that governance is not about individual interests. Service is the key.

Five Governors Break Silence on 2027, Reveal Their Preferred Candidate

North Central political leaders, including governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), have publicly advocated for President Bola Tinubu’s reelection.
This decision was reportedly made at a meeting that took place in Abuja on Wednesday night, where five party governors and other APC leaders from the area gathered.
As the 2027 presidential election approaches, the politicians emphasized how crucial it is that Tinubu be re-elected for a further four-year term in order to guarantee the continuance of his positive measures.

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, moved the motion to endorse the president for reelection in 2027. He stated: “At this meeting held on May 21, 2025, in Abuja, attended by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the State Governors of the zone, members of the National Assembly, Honourable ministers, and other critical stakeholders, we, members of the APC North Central geopolitical zone, have watched with complete satisfaction and admiration the sterling performance of the APC-led government of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and have resolved as follows: To endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR to run for another four-year term to continue his good works; that the North Central APC will continue to support all people-oriented programs and projects of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

Ladies and Gentlemen, Your Excellencies, our esteemed National Chairman. This motion is made by me on your behalf. I make the move.

“After critically analyzing the current trajectory of national governance and recognizing the bravery, foresight, and tenacity with which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has guided the ship of state amidst daunting challenges, we unanimously pass a vote of confidence on his administration,” stated Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, as he read the meeting’s communiqué.

In support of this belief, we fully support President Tinubu’s bid for a second term as head of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2027, to build on the successes of his reforms and see them through to completion.

“We sincerely thank His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the many developmental achievements being made in the North Central region. From road repairs and educational improvements to rural electricity and agricultural projects, the benefits of his Renewed Hope Agenda are steadily turning our area into a center of development and opportunity. We recognize that the president’s genuine dedication to justice and national development is evident in his efforts.

Under the capable direction of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, we applaud the APC’s national leadership for advancing internal democracy, party cohesion, and progressive government. We declare our complete faith in the APC’s leadership’s capacity to guide us to future electoral triumphs and reaffirm our steadfast allegiance to and alignment with its key principles.

APC Stakeholders in North Central Throw Support Behind Tinubu’s Second Term Bid

Citing his revolutionary leadership development accomplishments in the area, the All Progressives Congress (APC) North Central region has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in office.

The APC North Central Stakeholders adopted a vote of confidence in the president’s leadership at the meeting, which took place in Abuja.

The endorsement was proposed by Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago and backed by Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

The stakeholders praised President Tinubu’s development initiatives and transformative leadership, pointing out the positive impact his administration has had on Nigeria and the North Central Region.

The President’s creation of the North Central Development Commission and forest guards was praised by them.

Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State and the chairman of the North Central States Governors Forum, promised in his speech that the region will remain united and work to consolidate its growth.

APC National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje also pointed out that President Tinubu’s initiatives are working.

Prominent individuals, including governors, past governors, ministers, MPs, and members of the North Central Region’s APC national working committee, attended the conference.

FCT Minister Wike Hailed by National Assembly for Performance

Nyesom Wike’s performance as the Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) minister has been praised by National Assembly members.
When Wike came before the lawmakers on Wednesday to defend the ₦1.78 trillion FCT Statutory Budget proposal for the 202 fiscal year, they commended him.
It was claimed that parliamentarians from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP), and All Progressives Congress (APC) praised the FCT’s infrastructure development.

Wike and Mariya Mahmoud, the Minister of State for FCT, were praised by Senator Ibrahim Bomai, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, for their outstanding performance in their brief tenure as FCT minister.

Bomai declared, “This is the first time FCT is proposing to generate about ₦1.7 trillion,” expressing his admiration for the FCT’s 2025 revenue and fiscal framework. So far, FCT’s budget is among the best.

“The estimated ₦608 billion in internal revenue for 2025 also indicates a notable improvement,” he added.

Additionally, the minister received praise from Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central, PDP) for the complete transformation of Abuja as the capital of Nigeria.

However, Ningi asked the minister to take further action to enhance the security of the FCT, comparing its current state to that of Cairo and Johannesburg.

“Everyone that knows where Abuja was two years ago and what it is now knows that you have done well,” stated Senator Ali Ndume of the Borno South APC.

“My friend even told me yesterday that Wike was doing well, and I replied that the Senate was doing well because he couldn’t do anything without the Senate approving his budget.”

To help him succeed, Ndume promised the Senate’s ongoing support.

Senator Osita Ozunaso (Imo West, APC) stated that the FCT budget performance was excellent, especially the decrease in human costs to free up more money for capital projects.

“Every time we sit on budgets, people come here and raise the cost of personnel, but in the proposed budget for 2025, you have cut the cost of personnel by N21 billion compared to the amount allotted in 2024.”

Secondly, your capital expenditures exceed your recurring expenses. “This is admirable,” Ozunaso remarked.

Wike is among the best ministers in the APC government, according to Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC, Edo North).
Oshiomhole stated that “what Wike has done is worth noting and commendation,” pointing out that too much money was being spent on overhead and not nearly enough for infrastructure.

Senator Ireti Kingibe (FCT, LP) also praised the minister for the performance, saying it was unquestionable.

Wike was praised for the continuous development of the nation’s capital by Muktar Betara, the Chairman of the Committee on FCT, earlier at the House of Representatives.

Wike pleaded with the MPs to accept the ₦1.78 trillion FCT Statutory Budget proposal for the fiscal year 2025 during the budget defense.

According to him, of the ₦1.78 trillion, ₦1.28 trillion (72.3%) was allocated for capital projects, while ₦494.1 billion (20.7%) was allocated for ongoing expenses.

Opposition Leaders Unite: Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai Target Tinubu in 2027 Race

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) will be the main coalition party to run against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, according to sources from the camps of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and other influential political figures.
Speaking to Punch on condition of anonymity because they lacked formal authority, many people close to Atiku and Obi’s camps revealed that a meeting on Tuesday night was a major step in the coalition’s ongoing efforts.
The coalition leaders decided to make ADC the focal point of their political partnership during this meeting.

The sources also stated that in order to prepare for the 2027 election, ADC was already working to strengthen and reorganize, with formal announcements of the reforms anticipated in the days ahead.
Coalition leaders met Tuesday at 8 p.m. to finalize important decisions targeted at overthrowing President Tinubu in 2027, according to a statement released by former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai during an event on Wednesday.

Restoring Tinubu to Lagos by the next general election is the coalition’s top priority, El-Rufai emphasized.

In an interview with Punch, ADC’s national chairman Ralph Nwosu also affirmed that the party is presently in coalition talks with Atiku, Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, the former governor of Rivers State, and other major leaders. Ahead of the 2027 election, these talks are a part of larger initiatives to fortify opposition unity.

Ajibola Basiru, the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), denounced the opposition alliance in an interview with Punch, referring to President Tinubu as the “true father of all coalitions” in response to the coalition’s increasing traction.

Atiku, Obi, and other coalition leaders, Basiru said, are doomed to lose the 2027 election.

On March 20, Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai, and other major figures made public the coalition’s establishment with the goal of running against President Tinubu in 2027.

There was a lot of discussion regarding the possibility of opposition unity after the announcement, with differing views on the coalition’s prospects and approach.

Given that both parties are considering the ADC as their coalition platform, a source told Punch on Tuesday that Peter Obi is conferring with his supporters to determine whether to accept Atiku’s offer of the vice presidential post.

“The coalition leaders from the Obi and Atiku camps met last night in Abuja to review all the issues and the major parties,” he said. Following their conversations, they decided that the ADC ought to serve as the primary platform for the alliance.

“They agreed to develop a plan for an alliance between ADC, SDP, and other platforms after ADC is announced as the main coalition platform in the coming days, even though some of the leaders, including El-Rufai and others, are already members of the Social Democratic Party.

I am aware that plans have been made to alter the party’s National Leadership and Board of Trustees, and that funds have already been set aside to restructure the ADC. In the days ahead, these modifications will be made public.

Nonetheless, they have selected the party as the main platform for coalition nationalists. They have informed their followers, who are getting ready to join the party and assist in its transformation.

The leaders of the coalition decided to guarantee a level playing field for all, irrespective of their geographical origin zone, according to another source.

“The camps got together last night and decided to use the ADC as their platform,” he said. There has been no definitive conclusion, despite the fact that the idea of a one-term presidency and a vice-presidential position is still being discussed.

Consequently, they decided that the ADC’s coalition efforts would guarantee fair competition for all players, particularly those vying for the presidency, irrespective of their geopolitical background.

The coalition’s goal is to overthrow President Tinubu and guarantee his return to Lagos in 2027, according to El-Rufai, who confirmed the meeting.

Details of the meeting will be released in the next few days, the former Kaduna State Governor said in a video uploaded on Wednesday to the 𝕏 account @AbdulRasheeth.

“At 8 p.m. yesterday, there was a very important meeting of the coalition we are building to ensure that President Tinubu returns to Lagos,” El-Rufai said, obviously outlining the challenges he faced before being able to attend the Katsina gathering.

I had to go to that meeting at 8 p.m., even though we will give more updates later.

Speaking with Punch about the development, the ADC National Chairman said that party chieftains tasked with the assignment had been engaging in talks with other coalition leaders, but he denied knowing about the meeting yesterday.

According to Nwosu, the ADC has been in discussions with Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and others. He expressed confidence that they can effectively save Nigeria if they all work together.

“I am aware of the meeting that ADC chieftains are attending with some coalition leaders,” said the National Chairman of the ADC. Not only before this election, but for many years, ADC has participated in different coalition talks.

However, we are in communication with political parties, patriots, and other interested parties regarding this election. In only a few days, rather than months, the public will be informed of the conclusion of our conversations.

We established a committee for this aim in our capacity as National Chairman. All patriots interested in saving this nation are being contacted by our committees. We’re not just talking to Atiku, I can assure you. In addition, Rotimi Amaechi, Peter Obi, and numerous more are being involved.

We are having conversations with ardent patriots and leaders of political parties. We think we can deliver this nation if they all cooperate.

When asked if Atiku, Obi, and other coalition leaders wanted him and Mani Ibrahim, the chairman of the board of trustees, to resign in order to restructure the ADC, Nwosu brushed the assertion away as conjecture.

He did, however, stress that they are prepared to give up anything in order to aid in the rescue of Nigeria.

“That is conjecture,” he replied. However, I can guarantee you that we are totally dedicated to saving the country and prepared to give up everything, including ourselves. We are prepared to make the sacrifices necessary to advance this nation.

“There are more than one or two parties involved in this national rescue discussion. It is occurring among important groupings, civil society organizations, and political parties.

“ADC is prepared to provide any assistance required to make this happen. The party for a rescue effort has been assembled.

In an interview with Punch, Atiku’s media assistant Paul Ibe discussed the coalition, saying that leaders and political parties from different backgrounds are taking part.

“To be really honest with you, I am not aware of that,” he stated. I can’t talk about something I don’t know. I do know that we are negotiating with political parties and patriots to save Nigeria.

There are no exceptions to His Excellency Atiku Abubakar’s assertion that all party leaders and stakeholders are a part of this coalition. As of yet, no final decision has been made.

As for the political platform, we’re making progress and will shortly update the public. A pan-Nigerian movement is behind these coalition efforts. Everyone who believes in the goal of rebuilding and reclaiming the nation will be able to locate housing.

We are there. This coalition is dedicated to fulfilling its mandate to restore Nigeria.

Peter Ahmehn, the National Secretary of Coalition for United Political Parties, said that Obi and his followers are still Labour Party members.

“I know the coalition drive is still going on,” he remarked. However, I do not currently have access to such information regarding yesterday’s meeting.

As I previously stated, Mr. Peter Obi, myself, and the other members of our team are dedicated to the Labour Party. Since we belong to the Labour Party, our purpose is to support and advance its ideologies.

Nigerians will soon receive updates on the coalition’s development, according to CUPP National Publicity Secretary Mark Adebayo.

Adebayo made it clear in an interview with Punch that Atiku, Obi, and other coalition leaders are dedicated to saving Nigeria from President Tinubu’s failing APC government.

“What I can tell you is that we are in the midst of ongoing discussions, and they are at their height right now,” he said. Everything, including the platform, will soon be made known to Nigerians.

“The stakeholders and coalition leaders will not be sidetracked. Indeed, they are resolute and committed to cooperating to free Nigeria from President Tinubu’s failing APC regime.

“Any information you require about the coalition movement will be released shortly. Although we are aware that Nigerians are fed up with the APC and want to hear from us, we promise to update the country soon.

In a reaction to the coalition’s decision, APC National Secretary Basiru said in an exclusive interview with Punch that the former vice president and other opposition leaders will lose again in 2027 because their coalition is not led by the interests of Nigerians.

“They are not forming any coalition, and if they do, President Tinubu is the grandmaster of coalitions,” he said. He is a leader in the National Democratic Coalition, which served as the cradle of alliances that assisted in overthrowing the military.

So, how can they take on the grandmaster of coalitions using a coalition? Additionally, our party has a lot of experience creating coalitions.

“A congress composed of major political parties was formed by us first. Nigerians need to be informed that the falsehoods they spread about winning the 2023 election are now being exposed.

Predicting that the alliance leaders would lose the 2027 election, Basiru counseled Atiku, Obi, and others to rejoin their parties.

The National Secretary of the APC said, “Why are they discussing a coalition for 2027 if they really think they won the 2023 election? They ought to simply rejoin their political parties.

However, the fact is that they lost the 2023 election, and with God’s help, they will also lose the 2027 election, with President Tinubu of the APC emerging victorious.

“This so-called coalition or arrangement is motivated more by excessive ambition and a sense of entitlement than by love for Nigeria.”

Oloyede Defends Position, Slams Critics: ‘Truck Pushers Can’t Pilot Aircraft’

Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has denied resignation requests as a result of the scandals surrounding the administration of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Resigning would have been like to leaving the impacted students in their hour of need, Oloyede said in remarks made on Wednesday at a meeting with stakeholders, which included chief external examiners and Abuja civil society organizations.
Additionally, he brushed off calls for his resignation, implying that those who made them lacked the power or moral foundation to dispute his leadership abilities.

Pilots cannot be directed by truck pushers, he said.

The JAMB Registrar revealed that as the whole ordeal began, he thought about resigning, but he changed his mind and chose to try to make things right on the ground as much as possible.
“My first instinct was to quit when this occurred. “But people told me that the students won’t forgive you—it would look like you left them when they needed you,” Oloyede continued.

He argued that a lot of public responses were driven by false information and ignorance, and he urged the media and interested parties to refrain from politicizing educational matters.

Following the problems that surrounded this year’s UTME, various stakeholders, notably the House of Representatives’ South-East Caucus, had previously called for this stance, according to reports.

The UTME Is Not an Intelligence Measure
UTME is merely a placement test, not an intelligence test, and should not be used to evaluate candidates, according to Professor Oloyede’s argument during the conversation.

Candidates are ranked for open spots in postsecondary schools via UTME. “It is not the ultimate indicator of a student’s future or intelligence,” Oloyede stated.

Additionally, the JAMB Registrar lamented the suicide of Opesusi Timilehin, a 19-year-old applicant, who took her own life due to her poor UTME results. In her honor, he asked the meeting to pause for a minute.

“That catastrophe broke all of us,” he said. I regret to inform you that there were also fraudulent claims; some parents called me claiming their kids had passed away in order to later request money.

Akpabio Case: Natasha Accuses Police of Bias, Petitions AGF

0

The beleaguered senator from Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has accused the Nigerian Police of being biased in the way they handled her case against former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Akpoti-Uduaghan characterized the police’s actions as a “disturbing pattern of preferential treatment” in favor of Senator Akpabio in a letter dated May 19, 2025, written to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.
Her attorney, Ehiogie West-Idahosa (SAN), signed the letter, which noted that no significant action had been made to conduct an unbiased investigation of Akpoti-Uduaghan’s petitions.

“Our client submitted numerous petitions to the Nigeria Police against Senator Akpabio,” the letter said.

“Although these petitions were unambiguously stated and filed between March and April 2025, no significant action has been taken to conduct an unbiased investigation into them.”

The contested petitions consist of:

an allegation on March 25 that Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s personal safety was in danger.

a complaint on March 31 over her police security detail being illegally withdrawn.

A petition filed on April 4th accused Yahaya Bello and Akpabio of plotting her murder.

West-Idahosa claims that despite the police acknowledging all three petitions between March 26 and April 5, no attempt has been made to speak with witnesses or move the investigations along.

“It is evident that this unwillingness to thoroughly and impartially investigate the petitions may be due to the high political office occupied by Senator Godswill Akpabio,” he said, hinting that the accused’s political positions may have an impact on their reluctance to act.

Yahaya Bello, who is no longer the governor in office, is not protected by constitutional immunity and need to be investigated, the letter emphasized.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team, in contrast, criticized the quick handling of a counterpetition that Akpabio filed on April 3.

She was charged by the Senate President with inciting others, making false accusations, and criminal defamation.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was invited by the police right away, and she restated her pleas while being cautious and providing witnesses and evidence.

But her attorneys assert that the case file pertaining to Akpabio’s allegation did not contain any of her petitions or supporting documentation.

West-Idahosa noted that the conduct was a violation of the 1999 Constitution and said, “Our client is concerned that investigations into her petitions have been severally and unjustly stalled in what appears to be a discriminatory executive action.”

Murder Suspect Confesses to Killing Kwara Student for Wealth Rituals

Hafsoh Lawal was a final-year student at Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, and his suspected killer, Abdulrahman Bello, admitted in court on Wednesday to killing his Facebook lover for financial rituals.
Bello, who identifies himself as an Islamic preacher, reportedly told the court that he carried out the deed by himself. “I killed Lawal because he needed human hands for money rituals,” he explained.
Regretfully, he said, he would not have killed her if he had known another way to get the ingredients needed for the ceremony.

The court also heard testimony from Inspector Ayodele Azeez, a police witness who works for the state police command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

Inspector Azeez recounted the investigation’s specifics, stating that on February 14, 2025, the murder and rape case was moved from the Oja-Oba police division to the state CID.

The axe, cutlass, charms, victim’s right and left hands, a consultation book, phones, and a blood container were among the items displayed in Bello’s possession, according to Azeez.

Following a referral of the case to the anti-homicide and anti-robbery divisions, the items were recovered.

One axe, cutlass, table, charms, the victim’s right and left hands, a consultation book, a Tecno phone, an iPhone, an iPhone XR, paint rubber, a blood container, and slippers were among the exhibits discovered on the first defendant, Abdulrahman, he said. The case was then referred to the anti-homicide and anti-robbery sections after it was accepted at the state CID.

“ASP Dada Segun headed a team of police officers assigned to the case, and they gave me instructions to get a statement from the suspect. I then escorted him to a room with a suitable setting.

According to the police witness, “I asked him which language he preferred to speak and he settled for English. I asked if he had any relatives around the police command or any lawyer to witness how his statement would be recorded.”

“No!” he exclaimed. When I asked if he needed a lawyer, he said that I should find him one, but he also said that he didn’t have the money to pay for one. The money is not a concern, I told him.

In the end, I found him a lawyer named A.O. Ahmed, with whom he composed his statement. Writing his statement carefully, he recorded everything in his own handwriting and signed it.

After I advised him to double-check in case there was anything missing or needed to be added, he signed the statement and attested that everything was in order.

After reviewing the statement, ASP Dada Segun, my team leader, asked the lawyer to sign it. He did so, and I signed my piece as an IPO as well. Additionally, I was asked by ASP Dada Segun to record the suspect signing his statement on camera.

“I also recorded using my Android phone, which I then moved to my laptop and, once I had a certificate of compliance, to a disc.”

Defense attorney Barrister Agbede challenged to the admission of a compact disc that had a video recording of the suspect signing his statement during the proceedings.

Bello was forced to make the confession, Agbede claimed. The attorneys for the other defendants, however, made no objection. In spite of the opposition, the disc was allowed to be shown in court by Justice Hannah Ajayi, who also ordered its playing.

According to Bello’s call log, Inspector Azeez also revealed that the other defendants had continuous communication with him both prior to and on the day of the crime.

The cops found these people and took them into custody. Since the second defendant was Bello’s instructor, the third defendant was a pupil of the second defendant, and the third and fifth defendants were his close friends, it was established that the defendants knew Bello when they were brought before him.

After searching their homes, the police were unable to find any more evidence that could implicate them. After being questioned further, the suspects were brought back to the station.

When this report was filed, the court was in recess and the case was scheduled to resume for more review.
