Beware of Fraud: NECO Denies Ownership of Fake Social Media Account

A fraudulent Facebook account using the name of the Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, has been rejected by the National Examinations Council (NECO).
In a statement issued by the Council and bearing the signature of Azeez Sani, the Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, the examination conveyed its reservations.
It indicated that the aim of the fake Facebook account is to mislead unaware members of the public.

“The Council aims to alert the public to this fraudulent Facebook account’s existence, so as to prevent them from being deceived by the con artists.

“Security agents have been notified to take suitable measures against those responsible for this fraudulent act,” the NECO statement reads.

The Federal Government has instructed the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) to completely implement Computer-Based Testing (CBT) for their examinations beginning in 2026.

This announcement was reported to have been made by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, during a monitoring exercise with officials from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Bwari on Monday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that more than two million candidates have registered to participate in the ongoing examinations across over 800 centres nationwide.

Dr. Alausa clarified that WAEC and NECO will start administering objective papers through CBT from this November.

He added that by May or June 2026, the objective and essay sections would be fully administered through CBT.

The Minister stressed, “If JAMB can carry out CBT exams for over 2.2 million candidates successfully, then WAEC and NECO can also do it.”

He added, “We will ensure that WAEC and NECO also begin their objective exams on CBT. By 2026, the exams scheduled for May/June will have both the objective questions and the essay component completely on CBT. That is the way to get rid of exam malpractices.

The minister noted that a committee is in the process of reviewing national examination standards, with their recommendations anticipated next month.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) expressed its congratulations to Governor Monday Okpebholo for his victory in the Appeal Court.
The APC stated that Okpebholo’s triumph over Asue Ighodalo, the PDP candidate, was in agreement with the Edo people’s decision during the election.
Reports indicate that Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of APC, called on Ighodalo to collaborate with Okpebholo in state development in a statement made on Friday.

The APC extended its praise to the Appeal Court for maintaining the decision of the Edo Tribunal regarding its candidate’s win.

The ruling party stated that Okpebholo, with his victory, would keep providing the people of Edo with the benefits of democracy.
The statement states, “The All Progressives Congress (APC) extends its congratulations to the Executive Governor of Edo State, His Excellency Sen. Monday Okpebholo, and his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Denis Idahosa, on their Court of Appeal victory.

“On Thursday, May 29, 2025, a three-man panel of the Appeal Court issued a landmark ruling that upheld the Edo State Governorship Tribunal’s earlier confirmation of Governor Okpebholo’s victory in the September 21, 2024, governorship election.

University of Ibadan Offers New Master’s Programme in Response to Security Challenges

The University of Ibadan has made a daring move to bolster Africa’s ability to address emerging security threats by introducing a Master of Science (M.Sc.) programme in Security Management.

The TETFund Centre of Excellence in Security Management, based at Nigeria’s leading university, is leading the initiative.

Dr. Benjamin Adeniran Aluko, the Centre’s Acting Director, stated that the first group of students started their lectures two weeks ago, which officially launched the eagerly awaited postgraduate programme.

Aluko characterized the launch as a tactical move to tackle the expanding knowledge gap in security and intelligence, especially given the increasing complexity and transnational nature of global and local threats.

He pointed out that the programme aims to boost the abilities of security operatives, policymakers, and private sector managers tasked with protecting lives and assets.

“This programme is being positioned as a pan-African response to security challenges, both traditional and emerging. Dr Aluko stated, “We have designed our curriculum with care to offer practical, policy-relevant, and research-informed solutions to security issues not just in Nigeria, but throughout West Africa and the entire continent.”

The M.Sc. in Security Management will provide interdisciplinary training that integrates components from criminology, intelligence studies, cybersecurity, counterterrorism, conflict resolution, and crisis management.

Advertisement According to the centre, this will provide graduates with the analytical tools and leadership skills needed for strategic positions in security agencies, multinational corporations, and government institutions.

As Nigeria struggles with issues such as insurgency, kidnapping, piracy, and cybercrime, there is an increasing acknowledgment of the necessity for advanced academic programmes that combine theoretical knowledge with practical application.

To foster state-of-the-art research and capacity development in security management, the TETFund Centre of Excellence was set up.

Its goal is to establish a knowledge-based approach to security through the provision of a postgraduate programme, thereby reducing reliance on reactive tactics and promoting a culture of proactive threat analysis.

The programme accepts admissions from professionals in the military, police, intelligence, corporate security, and other similar fields.

The Centre states that it will accept applicants from other West African nations, framing the programme as a regional hub for training future security leaders.

With the continent’s ongoing struggle against multidimensional security threats, the initiative from the University of Ibadan highlights how academia can contribute to sustainable solutions.

Nigeria is taking a significant step toward creating a more secure and resilient society with the M.Sc. in Security Management, one skilled graduate at a time.

Esosa Iyawe, a member of the House of Representatives, has denounced the annual registration fee of ₦270,000 that the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) imposes on dispatch riders.
The legislator representing the Oredo Federal Constituency lamented that NIPOST imposes a fee of ₦320,000 for each motorcycle on those who default.
Reports indicate that the lawmaker from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was elected under the Labour Party, labeled the charge as outrageous.

In a statement on Saturday, the federal lawmaker from Edo State remarked that the charges jeopardize the livelihoods of numerous young individuals and owners of small businesses.

“On behalf of the Traders Welfare Union, I submitted a petition to the House last week concerning the illegal and excessive policies that NIPOST is enforcing on dispatch riders and logistics operators in Edo State.
“ The petition specifically requests that the House establish a committee to examine the current NIPOST registration policy, which requires dispatch riders to pay an exorbitant annual registration fee of ₦270,000. What is even more worrying is that defaulters are facing charges of ₦320,000 for each motorcycle.

“These charges are not just exorbitant; they jeopardize the livelihoods of numerous young individuals and owners of small businesses who rely on logistics services for their survival. He stated, “Many view this policy as exploitative, lacking transparency, and not having a proper legal foundation.

Iyawe implored the House to step in and put an end to NIPOST’s exorbitant fees. He asserted that governmental policies ought to focus on fostering economic growth rather than hindering innovation and entrepreneurship.

“I called on the House to take decisive action by examining this policy, consulting with key stakeholders, and establishing a more equitable and supportive regulatory framework for Edo State’s logistics industry.

“Our people deserve policies that foster growth, not those that hinder innovation and enterprise,” the statement on his 𝕏 added.

Deadly Road Tragedy Claims 20 Athletes in Kano

A tragic traffic accident at Dakatsalle Bridge in Kano State’s Kura Local Government Area has resulted in the confirmed deaths of at least 20 athletes from the Kano State contingent.
It has been reported that the athletes were returning from the recently finished National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, when a bus carrying 30 of them fell off a bridge, causing a tragic loss of life.
The chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, verified the tragic event by saying, “As I am talking to you now, we have counted 19 dead bodies.”

He mentioned that multiple others had injuries of differing severity and were being hurried to the hospital for urgent treatment.

In the process of confirming the accident, Abdullahi Labaran, who serves as the Public Relations Officer for the Kano Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), stated: “We just received the report of the accident, so I cannot confirm the exact number of casualties at the moment.”

The tragic incident has reverberated through the sports community and the entire nation, leading to increasing demands for enhanced safety measures for athletes and public transportation systems.

Okanga and the Enone People: A Bond Forged in Trust and Transformation
When a leader genuinely knows and relate to the people they serve, a rare chemistry emerges that goes beyond politics and into something more profound and significant. This is the narrative of Chief Phillip Agbese and the Enone people. Their connection is one of trust, real progress, and mutual respect, not the conventional transactional relationship between a politician and constituents. With many leaders being distant figures these days, Okanga has stayed closely anchored among his people. He hears their hardships, honours their successes, and accompanies them on the road to a better future.
From the outset, Okanga’s style of governance has been guided by one basic principle: the people come first. Unlike leaders who vanish after elections, he has kept an open-door policy, conducting frequent community forums, town hall meetings and casual visits to villages throughout Ado, Okpokwu, and Ogbadibo.
