N270K Fee for Dispatch Riders Unjust — Lawmaker Slams NIPOST

0

Esosa Iyawe, a member of the House of Representatives, has denounced the annual registration fee of ₦270,000 that the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) imposes on dispatch riders.
The legislator representing the Oredo Federal Constituency lamented that NIPOST imposes a fee of ₦320,000 for each motorcycle on those who default.
Reports indicate that the lawmaker from the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was elected under the Labour Party, labeled the charge as outrageous.

In a statement on Saturday, the federal lawmaker from Edo State remarked that the charges jeopardize the livelihoods of numerous young individuals and owners of small businesses.

“On behalf of the Traders Welfare Union, I submitted a petition to the House last week concerning the illegal and excessive policies that NIPOST is enforcing on dispatch riders and logistics operators in Edo State.
“ The petition specifically requests that the House establish a committee to examine the current NIPOST registration policy, which requires dispatch riders to pay an exorbitant annual registration fee of ₦270,000. What is even more worrying is that defaulters are facing charges of ₦320,000 for each motorcycle.

“These charges are not just exorbitant; they jeopardize the livelihoods of numerous young individuals and owners of small businesses who rely on logistics services for their survival. He stated, “Many view this policy as exploitative, lacking transparency, and not having a proper legal foundation.

Iyawe implored the House to step in and put an end to NIPOST’s exorbitant fees. He asserted that governmental policies ought to focus on fostering economic growth rather than hindering innovation and entrepreneurship.

“I called on the House to take decisive action by examining this policy, consulting with key stakeholders, and establishing a more equitable and supportive regulatory framework for Edo State’s logistics industry.

“Our people deserve policies that foster growth, not those that hinder innovation and enterprise,” the statement on his 𝕏 added.

Okanga and the Enone People: A Bond Forged in Trust and Transformation

0
When a leader genuinely knows and relate to the people they serve, a rare chemistry emerges that goes beyond politics and into something more profound and significant. This is the narrative of Chief Phillip Agbese and the Enone people. Their connection is one of trust, real progress, and mutual respect, not the conventional transactional relationship between a politician and constituents. With many leaders being distant figures these days, Okanga has stayed closely anchored among his people. He hears their hardships, honours their successes, and accompanies them on the road to a better future.
From the outset, Okanga’s style of governance has been guided by one basic principle: the people come first. Unlike leaders who vanish after elections, he has kept an open-door policy, conducting frequent community forums, town hall meetings and casual visits to villages throughout Ado, Okpokwu, and Ogbadibo. He listens, not only hears the folks. Okanga addresses the problems of the people not as theoretical public policies but as personal priorities. This openness has built him trust, far more precious than votes.
Trust is, however, only as strong as the deeds that support it. By so doing, Okanga has guaranteed that the residents of Enone experience and sense the influence of his leadership by consistently matching his words with tangible outcomes. Formerly run-down schools now cultivate young minds; former understaffed clinics now deliver excellent healthcare. These are lifelines, not only infrastructural milestones, that have given thousands back their dignity and chances.
Beyond simply bricks and mortar, Okanga’s greatest contribution to Enone has been the conviction that progress is possible, that government can serve the people, and that a better future is attainable.
Okanga’s unrelenting dedication to inclusiveness really distinguishes him. His leadership goes beyond political friends or metropolitan areas to include the most oppressed, the rural farmers, the struggling artisans, the women and the youngsters who have long been neglected. Many projects have helped him to guarantee that no one is left behind.
Enone’s inhabitants have reacted to this true concern with great loyalty. Their support for Okanga is a deliberate decision to side with a leader who has demonstrated, time and again, that he stands with them, not blind loyalty. In their words “Okanga is different”. You hear it in markets, churches and village squares. He is among us.
In many constituencies, the bond between leaders and the people is fragile and easily broken by unmet promises. In Enone, however, Okanga’s relationship with his people is something much deeper: a pact of mutual respect and shared development. He views them as partners in development rather than as only voters to be sought in elections. Similarly, the individuals view him as a brother, a champion and a reliable keeper of their shared hopes rather than as a remote authority figure.
The narrative of Okanga and Enone serves as a stark reminder of what governance ought to be: a holy link between leader and people grounded in service, responsibility and a common vision. Enone is evidence of the changing ability of leadership that really cares as other areas struggle with disconnection and discontent.

Inter Milan Set to Face PSG in Champions League Final – All You Need to Know: Preview, Prediction, Lineups, Watch Details

On Saturday evening, a monumental clash is poised to unfold at Munich’s Allianz Arena, with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) facing off against Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League Final for the 2024-2025 season.
The match will kick off at 8pm UK time, as Inter Milan and PSG compete for continental glory and the end of their vastly different but equally compelling campaigns.
PSG arrives in Germany in pursuit of history. The Parisians, still chasing their inaugural Champions League title, are on the brink of an unprecedented treble after securing victories in Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France.

In 2025, their comeback under Luis Enrique has been remarkable. PSG, who were once on the verge of European elimination, have become Europe’s most in-form team, defeating Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Liverpool on their way to the final.
In contrast, Inter Milan are looking to make amends for previous disappointments and secure their fourth Champions League title.

Although Simone Inzaghi’s team has not succeeded domestically, finishing as runners-up in both Serie A and the Coppa Italia, they have shown no signs of slowing down in Europe.

The Nerazzurri are just one win away from changing the story of their season after knocking out Bayern Munich and edging Barcelona in a thrilling 7-6 aggregate semifinal victory.

Direct Comparison and Historical Context On Saturday, PSG and Inter Milan will meet for the first time in a Champions League final.

Nonetheless, historical omens might be advantageous for the French side: every previous UCL final in Munich has seen a first-time winner — a list that PSG aspires to join alongside Nottingham Forest, Marseille, Dortmund, and Chelsea.

Additionally, the only prior UCL victory for French football occurred in Munich, where Marseille triumphed over AC Milan in 1993. Is it possible for lightning to strike twice?

Inter Milan Vs PSG: Team News In an unusual turn of events, both squads are anticipated to be at full strength for the final.

PSG are missing only Presnel Kimpembe, who has been out for the majority of the season. Ousmane Dembele is expected to return to the starting lineup, with either Bradley Barcola or Desire Doue likely to be dropped.

Latest results: WDWWDW (across all competitions)

Tactical Outlook This final is regarded as a confrontation of philosophies: PSG’s fast-paced, offensive showiness against Inter’s organized, strategically-savvy framework.

In 11 out of their 14 UCL matches, Inter scored the first goal, frequently controlling the pace early on. Nevertheless, PSG have demonstrated their strength in high-pressure situations, such as securing a vital victory in a penalty shootout against Liverpool.

Prediction This is set to be one of the most balanced Champions League finals in recent years. As both teams are in peak condition and the stakes are high, anticipate a cautious contest.

Forecast: PSG 1-1 Inter Milan (PSG triumphs in the penalty shootout)

PSG’s experience in high-stakes matches, better recent performance, and composure during penalties might provide the advantage necessary for them to secure their first Champions League victory.

PENCOM Faces Senate Scrutiny Over Alleged Lopsided Hiring

0

The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Intergovernmental Affairs has ramped up its investigation into purported recruitment irregularities at the National Pension Commission (PENCOM).

During a public hearing on Thursday in Abuja, the committee led by Senator Allwell Onyesoh (Rivers East) questioned PENCOM’s adherence to the Federal Character Principle, after stakeholders expressed concerns about marginalisation in the commission’s hiring practices.

During her appearance before the committee, PENCOM’s Director-General, Mrs. Omolola Oworonran, along with the Executive Secretary and other high-ranking commission officials, acknowledged that disparities in regional staff representation exist.

She recognized that certain local governments and states have a disproportionate representation, while others are insufficiently represented.

Documents reviewed by the committee indicate that PENCOM’s recruitment since its last exercise in 2021 has revealed significant discrepancies.

As an example, it has been reported that Delta State employs 16 staff members, six of whom are from one local government area. Four of the six from Ebonyi are from one LGA; Edo possesses 12, including five from a single LGA; while Gombe has 19, including 11 from a single LGA.

To guarantee grassroots inclusivity, Senator Onyesoh emphasized that future recruitment should prioritize equitable distribution across local governments instead of states or geopolitical zones.

While he praised PENCOM for showing up before the committee, he also took issue with the involvement of some federal institutions in compromising recruitment transparency.

Whenever a recruitment exercise occurs, it is frequently undermined by other government agencies such as IPPIS, the Office of the Head of Service, the Office of the Accountant General, and even the Federal Character Commission, all of whom insist on their own share. Onyesoh declared, “This practice must come to an end.

Other committee members expressed similar concerns. Senator Osita Ngwu (Enugu West) stated that, according to the committee’s examination of submitted documents, no ministry, department, or agency had completely adhered to the Federal Character guidelines.

He cautioned that future appointments violating the guidelines would be examined closely and could possibly be invalidated.

Senator Amos Yohanna (Adamawa North) voiced significant discontent regarding PENCOM’s recruitment records, labeling them “the worst” encountered to date. He maintained that the commission needed to act right away to rectify the imbalance.

It was noted by Mrs. Oworonran that states with insufficient representation, such as Rivers and Jigawa, have been pinpointed, and that in future recruitment rounds the commission will prioritize individuals from those regions who meet the qualifications. She committed to keeping lines of communication open with the Senate committee regarding all future recruitment efforts.

The investigation conducted by the committee is a component of a larger initiative by the Senate aimed at enforcing transparency and equity in recruitment practices across federal agencies, as well as ensuring that infrastructure distribution aligns with constitutional mandates promoting fairness and inclusivity among regions.

The Senate investigation is ongoing, with additional sessions anticipated in the next few weeks.

Tinubu Pressured by Lagos APC Stakeholders to Intervene in Primary Crises

0

Before the upcoming local government elections in the state, a group of All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Lagos’ Eti-Osa East Local Council Development Area (LCDA) have urged President Bola Tinubu to form a panel to address the alleged injustices experienced by some candidates in the recently concluded party primaries for chairmanship and councillorship positions.

Members of the party have expressed discontent with the conduct and results of the primaries, which were held at the party’s state secretariat on Acme Road. The protests have extended throughout Lagos.

The demonstrators claimed that party leaders and electoral committee members unfairly excluded other candidates by manipulating the process to favor hand-picked candidates.

The Concerned APC Stakeholders in Eti-Osa East LCDA group urged Tinubu to step in and form an inquiry panel in an open letter to the president that was made accessible to reporters on Thursday.

In an effort to right the perceived wrongs and restore internal party democracy, the group is calling for an investigation into the alleged “impunity” and “electoral fraud” that they say polluted the primaries.

Many candidates are upset with the primaries’ conclusion, not because they lost legitimately but rather because the process was tainted and the public’s will was undermined. What should have been a democratic exercise in several local government areas throughout the state—most obviously in Eti-Osa East LCDA—became a planned display of partiality, dishonesty, and betrayal of our party’s core values.

One particularly troubling instance is the case of Hon. John Campos Ogundare, the current Chairman of Eti-Osa East LCDA. In a highly undemocratic way, he was denied the party’s chairmanship ticket in spite of his outstanding performance and the evident changes that emerged under his direction, such as the restoration of security, environmental reforms, youth empowerment, and improved cooperation between the party and the government.

“It is documented that within the first six months of taking office, Hon. Campos Ogundare addressed the LCDA’s security issues head-on, restoring calm and tranquility to a region that had previously been riven by turmoil and dread.

“There have been noticeable advancements, and the locals continue to love his people-focused initiatives. Therefore, it is both unreasonable and unfair for leaders who are self-centered and insensitive to deny such a man the chance to carry on his good deeds once he has established trustworthy and cooperative relationships,” the letter stated in part.

The APC stakeholders stated in the cited letter, “A Call for Presidential Intervention In The Crisis Rocking APC In Lagos Arising from Electoral Malpractices & Injustice That Marred the just-concluded primaries of the party in The State for Forthcoming LG Elections,” that the party could not afford the internal conflict caused by the primaries, particularly in Eti-Osa, where the party lost the area’s Federal Constituency to the Labour Party in the general election of 2023.

“As we write this, sir, the APC in Eti-Osa East is divided, and the majority of the decent members of the LCDA are angry over the injustice done to the council’s _performing_ Executive Chairman, who is the favorite of the electorate and is revolutionizing administration in the neighborhood where you live.

The letter went on to say, “Mr. President, you would be doing no good if you let this injustice continue, since the electoral fraud directly contradicts your commitment to justice and equity.”
