Reports of Chibok girls’ release not true – CDS

0

The Chief of Defence Staff Maj.-Gen. Lucky Irabor, has debunked the news that some Chibok girls were released during clearance operation in the Northeast.

General Irabor denied the claim while interacting with newsmen during his Operational visit to the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri on Sunday.

He said that the Chibok girls were not in the Military’s custody. “We do not have any of the Chibok girls in our custody, so if they are not with us we have nothing to confirm again.

General Irabor noted that “It was the desire of the military the get the Chibok girls back safely and if our operations have helped those said to have escaped, I think we are glad.” Irabor added.

The CDS, who was accompanied by the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Amao, and the Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo, said he was in the Theatre to appraised the security situation on the ground and to also get a briefing from the officers on duty.

Second impeachment: Donald Trump’s wife, Melania told to divorce him quickly

0

A brand and reputation management expert has suggested Melania Trump should “move fast and divorce” her husband Donald, as his second impeachment trial looms.

Speculation has been rife for years that Melania would eventually divorce her husband, particularly once his time as US President had come to and end.

Expert Eric Schiffer says now would be the time to do so, as any further charges against Trump trigger a “clear and present danger to their union”.

Speaking to The Mirror he said her advisers are likely urging her to “move fast” for a divorce, which could reportedly cost Trump an estimated $150 million.

“An indictment for Melania will be neither cool nor fashionable to her acquired tastes,” he told the publication,” he said, adding it could be “the final act” in her ‘role’ as his wife.

Melania’s advisers’ calculus will be to move fast because Donald’s divorce will cost Trump over 150 million that, in the end, if she doesn’t move quickly, he won’t have the cold cash to pay out.

Friend thinks Melania ‘unlikely’ to divorce
However, one friend of the family revealed recently he would be ‘truly shocked’ if Melania divorced her husband.

Society publicist R Couri, described as a “friendly acquaintance” of the Trump family, said: “The likelihood is 99.99 per cent they will stay together. I’d truly be shocked if Melania formally separated and divorced from her husband.

“She grew up in a pseudo-communist difficult life.

“When she married, she wanted stability, romantic stability, financial stability, and through it all the one thing still standing is that marriage.

”Trump faces a historic second impeachment trial over the ransacking of the US Capitol. The trial – in which Trump is charged with “incitement of insurrection” – will begin on February 9.

However, several of the former US president’s impeachment lawyers reportedly left his team with a little over a week before his trial.

CNN cited unnamed sources as saying that five lawyers, including two who were thought to be leading the team, had parted ways with the Republican billionaire after disagreeing over his legal strategy.

Mr Trump is the first president in history to be impeached twice. He was impeached by the House in 2019 over his dealings with Ukraine, but acquitted by the Senate.

And it seems increasingly likely he will be acquitted again.

Just this week 45 out of 50 Senate Republicans voted to consider stopping the trial before it even started on the grounds that presidents cannot face impeachment trials once they have left office.

For the impeachment to stand, it would take 17 Republican senators breaking ranks and voting alongside the 50 Democrats to convict the president.

That would leave the door open for Trump to run again in 2024, a prospect that a significant portion of Republicans now support.

The Defence Chief who listed areas where road networks would have helped in the prosecution of the conflict said the military will do what is necessary but that stakeholders must do the needful to ensure the basics are provided to create a strong foothold in the clearance operation.

Intersociety As The Evil Caucus

0

By Idoko Ainoko

The shoe is currently on the other foot for separatist NGO, International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety), which had neglected to heed the Biblical warning in Proverbs 30.33 (NIV) that said, “For as churning cream produces butter, and as twisting the nose produces blood, so stirring up anger produces strife.” Whatever situation Intersociety alleges now is the result of cause and effect, one it is actively responsible for creating.

In this regard, Intersociety is playing the ostrich in its unfounded accusation that the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai, reduced the Nigerian Army to a Hausa-Fulani group. It is playing the ostrich because it played a crucial role in walking the Igbo nation into the disadvantaged position they now found themselves in as far as relevance within the Nigerian military is concerned. It is angry that the erstwhile Chief of Army Staff approved promotion of Soldiers in the Nigerian Army. It so happened that 32 of the 47 persons promoted Major-Generals were northerners.

Accusation of this nature is not alien to Intersociety, whose stock in trade is a mish mash of conspiracy theories and manic-depressive rantings anchored on separatist ideology that does not recognize the right of other ethnic nationals in Nigeria to competently aspire to greater heights. Only such perverted mindset would make it assert that career military officers who had given their best to the country are not deserving of being promoted to the next rank based on merit. In reality, contrary to a Hausa-Fulani caucus taking over the Army, it is Intersociety as an evil caucus that is attempting to set the country ablaze along ethnic fault lines that it is willing into existence.

Tragically, the bellyaching by Intersociety is not a flash in the pan but rather it is part of an elaborate ploy to ethnicize and politicize the military such that the internal cohesion it thrives on would be compromised. Veterans of the armed forces would readily tell anyone with a capacity for appreciating facts that once people get into the service it does not matter where the other officers are from, everyone buries their ethno-religious background and simply become brothers in arms. The military becomes their tribe and ethnic group, and they live in that manner even after leaving service. This is why anyone that loves Nigeria should be concerned at the kind of accusation that emanated from the riff raffs in that organization.

Those who are tolerant of the irresponsible posturing by Intersociety must be warned to the reality that the group will not stop at the ethicizing of the military if it is allowed, it will go on to attempt politicizing Armed Forces, or at least its allies will take over that phase of operations if Intersociety is allowed to get away with the kind of malicious war of attrition it has launched on General Buratai for reasons that are not hidden. The owners of Intersociety hate his guts for what he has contributed to keeping Nigeria as one indivisible entity.

This pro-terrorism organization is practically the NGO arm of terrorist Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). It was IPOB that mounted a campaign to discourage persons of Igbo extraction from joining the Armed Forces of Federal Republic of Nigeria while it also urged those already in the services to resign their commission. While IPOB was dishing out this misguided directives Intersociety saw nothing wrong in it and never thought that refusing to join the military will automatically translate into a depletion of Igbos as their counterparts from other ethnic nationalities advance through the ranks.

It is pure inanity that Intersociety is now holding General Buratai responsible for the sheer idiocy it perpetuated, promoted and actively propagated through IPOB, its parent organization. A responsibly entity would have dispassionately evaluated what is unfolding and then articulate a response that will save the south-east geopolitical zone from the quandary into which it has plunged them. One wonders why this same organization did nothing to lobby retired Lt. General Azubuike Ihejirika to massively recruit Igbos into the military when he was Chief of Army Staff, not that they would have been willing to join what they have been brainwashed to regard as Hausa-Fulani contraption.

Intersociety as the intellectual wing of IPOB terrorist group based in the south east could have done better than trying to redirect attention from the trap it has walked the Igbo people into. This cheap attempt at distracting its victims is consistent with what the IPOB franchise is known for as its leader is ensconced in the United Kingdom luxuriating in a Swiss Cottage in one of the most expensive parts of London.

That this trashy organization is taken seriously by hopeless blogsites is a travesty that must be addressed. No entity that promotes anti-state activities in Nigeria all in the name of human rights should be accorded such talking space, which is why Intersociety looks for nameless blogs and pro-Biafra sites to land its propaganda contents before attempting to make them trend on social media. Interestingly, these are contents that qualify as hate speech and incitement to violence by any standard.

With Intersociety’s antecedents, it is not surprising that it is attempting to demonize General Buratai, who for the entire duration of his tenure as Chief of Army Staff ensured that no terrorist or separatist group was able to cause the breakup of Nigeria. It is understandable that an Intersociety whose parent organization, IPOB, is fanatical about reenacting the defunct Biafra republic, will be pained that Buratai ended his service to the nation on an excellent note.

It is also trite to observe that Intersociety hates everything from the north of the Niger-Benue. There have been instances when it openly canvassed and mobilize for hatred against persons who are not of Igbo extraction. It therefore cannot give what it does not have.

Contrary to what this uncharitable organization wants people to believe about retired Lt Gen TY Buratai, he is one Nigerian patriot who promoted patriotism and the highest level of merit above nepotism. For anyone to try to tag him as a bigot is something that calls for a review of the person making such call to ascertain that they are mentally competent.

Aside his fair and transparent leadership of the Nigerian Army under his watch, it was Lt. Gen TY Buratai who instituted laudable projects in the south east including making available medical outreaches that positively touched the lives of the people. The Governors of Enugu and Ebonyi state celebrated him as the friend of the south east. He had Christians as his personal staff and amongst his officers everyone was treated equally.

Once the issue of sterling values that Buratai brought to the Army has been properly situated, it is imperative that Nigerians call out Intersociety for its divisive activities, especially this nauseating attempt to reduce the nation’s esteemed military into a subject for ethnic bickering. The group must be properly contained to prevent it from contaminating the polity with its warped pro-terrorists’ ideology. A keen step to be taken is to pressure Intersociety to operate according to its actual identity, which is, the relevant authorities should review its affiliation with a known terrorist organization, IPOB, and strip it of registration as an NGO with the attendant consequences.

In the meantime, it is befitting to salute General Buratai while urging him to shrug off the minor irritant that Intersociety and other detractors have proven to be. His record of excellent service to the fatherland requires that Nigerians demand of him to make himself available for further national assignments.

Concerned Citizens lambasts Deji Adeyanju, sponsors over purported letter calling for Buratai’s probe

0

The Concerned Citizens Forum frowned at a petition written by the Concerned Nigerians Group led by Deji Adeyanju to the International Criminal Court (ICC) calling for the arrest and prosecution of the immediate past Chief of Army Staf, Lt. Gen. Tukur Bruatai.

CCF says it finds such posturing very worrisome and lacking in any form of objectivity as the issues canvassed by the Deji Adeyanju led group remains a figment of the imagination.
The group in a statement by its president, Comrade John Alli, advised Deji Adeyanju and “his co-travellers to stop insulting the sensibilities of Nigerians any further for the task at hand requires all the urgency that it deserves.”

It chalanged Deji and his group to provide tangible evidence that human rights were violated and the Nigerian Army committed war crimes under the stewardship of the immediate past Chief of Army Staff.
His statement reads belpw;
The Concerned Citizens Forum has over several years contributed immensely to the democratic principles in Nigeria by demanding accountability, transparency in the conduct of government business, and the protection of the human rights of all citizens of Nigeria.
Our attention has been drawn to a letter written by a shadowy and sponsored group under the nomenclature of Concerned Nigerians Group and led by one Deji Adeyanju, to the International Criminal Court, demanding for the arrest and prosecution of the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai for human rights violations and crimes against humanity while he was in office.
The Concerned Citizens Forum finds such posturing very worrisome and lacking in any form of objectivity as the issues canvassed by the Deji Adeyanju led group remains a figment of the imagination.
It is circumspect to state that Deji Adeyanju and his co-travellers would not relent in their puerile attempt at demonizing the laudable achievements of the immediate past Chief of Army Staff while he was in office in apparent exchange for a plate of porridge.
The Concerned Citizens Forum views this recent diatribe as a continuation of the grand campaign against the Muhammadu Buhari led administration despite the overwhelming commitment to addressing the country’s security challenges.

The Concerned Citizens Forum does not hold brief for the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, neither have we been mandated to do such, however as a body that has been in the vanguard of the entrenchment of the tenets of democracy in Nigeria for several years, we find such actions by the Deji Adeyanju led Concerned Nigerians Groups as an insult to the sensibilities of Nigerians.

It is our considered view that well-meaning Nigerians should not entertain such anomaly because of the larger consequences on the democratic journey in Nigeria, which has been under constant attack.
A thorough scrutiny of the content of the letter written by the Deji Adeyanju led group indeed gives insight to the mischief intended, aside that it also contained outright insinuations and illogical conclusions that defeats commons sense.
By and large, the Deji Adeyanju led group is acting on behalf of some proscribed militant groups in the country such as the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) whose activities have led trails of sorrow, tears and blood in different parts of the country.
The Concerned Citizens Forum is appalled that such inaccuracy can be propagated in the public space without consideration for the impact of such in the overall psyche of the generality of the Nigerian population.
We consequently wonder where and how the Deji Adeyanju led group derives its information, if not from the promoters of these militant groups. This indeed smacks of a mockery that should be disregarded by all concerned stakeholders in Nigeria as well as the diplomatic community.
We wish to inform Nigerians that the overarching objective of this new drive by the Deji Adeyanju led group is to begin a fresh outbreak of violence in the country by systematically calling on members of the proscribed militant groups to return to the streets in the attempt to make the country ungovernable.
The Concerned Citizens Forum is indeed by this medium putting the records straight by questioning this negative narrative that is obviously coming from the camps of some of those whose egos have been bruised by the immediate past Chief of Army Staff in addressing the threats posed by terrorist and militant groups in the country.
We also wish state in unequivocal terms that Nigerians are indeed aware of the nefarious activities of the IMN, IPOB and other terrorist groups, as well as the actions taken in the country’s overall interest as the case may be.
It is also instructive to state that the letter to the ICC calling for the arrest and prosecution of the immediate past Chief of Army Staff is balderdash as the issues canvased cannot be substantiated, and this is coupled with the fact that the choice of words is poor and the delivery is puerile.
It thus remains a statement of fact that under the stewardship of the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, the threats posed by these militant groups that have suddenly found a voice in the Deji Adeynaju led Concerned Nigerians Groups were indeed addressed in line with global best practices unless Deji Adeyanju and his co-travellers want to feign ignorance to the reign of terror perpetrated by the IMN in Zaria and other parts of Northern Nigeria before the timely intervention of the Nigerian Army.

Also, the Deji Adeyanju led group might also want to feign ignorance to the attack by members of the IMN on security operatives that led to their deaths, including a senior police officer DCP Umar during one of their violent protests in the Federal Capital Territory that left scores of others dead and wounded, as well as the destruction of properties.
We also wish to remind the Deji Adeyanju led group that it is indeed on record that the Nnamdi Kanu led IPOB has been credited to have incited violence in parts of South-East Nigeria that led to the burning of police stations, and the death and injury to police officers in the line of duty.
The Concerned Citizens Forum indeed challenges the Deji Adeyanju led group to provide tangible evidence that human rights were violated and the Nigerian Army committed war crimes under the stewardship of the immediate past Chief of Army Staff.
It should also do well to seek facts from credible civil society organizations and non-governmental organizations such as ours that has been devoted to the entrenchment of the tenets of democracy in Nigeria.
The Concerned Citizens Forum calls on all well-meaning Nigerians to discountenance the Deji Adeyanju led group’s narrative, which remains a hatchet job for all it is worth. We consequently demand a withdrawal of the purported letter to the ICC, as well as the tendering of an unreserved apology to the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, as well as the generality of Nigerians.
