NCPC will embark on pilgrimage to Jordan In July

0

Rev. Yakubu Pam, the executive secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), has announced that the Commission will begin its pilgrimage to Jordan in July of this year.

Rev. Pam made the disclosure while playing host to the executive members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna state council, at the NCPC corporate headquarters in Abuja, according to a press release issued by the Commission’s media and public relations unit Thursday evening.

He said plans were being made to “ensure a successful pilgrimage outing to Jordan in July 2021,” and that the Commission had received all of the necessary approvals to begin the pilgrimage exercise in Jordan.

He stated that in order to deal with the country’s crises, the government, religious leaders, traditional leaders, and media practitioners must work together, adding that “the media is the medium that will sell the story in the right perspective that will bring about peace.”

Pam urged the NUJ to be objective in their reporting while also emphasizing the country’s strengths.

He stated that the Commission would continue to advocate for peace and national development, emphasizing that “we will join hands to engage the principal actors who have been negatively influenced and prevent them from displaying their act of destruction.”

Earlier, the Council’s chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf, praised the NCPC boss for his “visionary leadership style anchored on Nigeria’s unity and oneness.”

He urged political appointees and heads of government agencies to follow the NCPC boss’s leadership style in order to get things done.

Banditry: DSS invites Sheikh Gumi over comments implicating security operatives

The Department of State Security Service (DSS) on Thursday invited Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi for questioning, VOA reports.

According to the VOA report, Gumi was invited by the DSS after he alleged that security officials work with bandits to carry out criminal activities.

Gumi made the allegation when he appeared in ARISE TV on Wednesday.

The Nigerian Army however rejected the claims of the Kaduna-based cleric, saying that security agents have sacrificed their lives in the battle against insurgency.

“It is essential to remind ourselves that this same military, being accused of connivance, are the ones who recently put their lives on the line to rescue abductees of the Government Secondary School, Birnin Yauri from kidnappers,” the army explained in a statement.

The statement added, “While the NA will not attempt to excuse the possibility of black sheep amongst its fold, it must be stated unambiguously that it will not condone any form of sabotage or aiding and assisting the enemy by any personnel.

In the wake of kidnappings, murder and other terrorism acts of bandits operating predominantly in the northern region of the country, Mr Gumi has become popular for advocating peace deals with terrorist herders

He has at different times chaired negotiations between the herders and their victims. And recently, he likened the herders to the Niger Delta militants, saying that the herders should be granted amnesty as the militants enjoyed.

Police are investigating fake vaccine scams In two cities in India.

Around 2,000 people were injected with fake Covid-19 vaccines in Mumbai, police said Friday, and another 500 people — some of whom were disabled — may have been harmed in a second major city.

Following a devastating pandemic surge in April and May, the Indian government made vaccinations free. This week, vaccination rates skyrocketed.

Around 2,000 people who thought they were being vaccinated were instead injected with a saline solution, according to Mumbai police.

Police said at a news conference that ten people had been arrested, including two doctors from a private hospital in the financial district, with the scammers targeting residents of an upscale housing complex in one case.

Vishwas Patil, the joint commissioner for the law and order division, said, “We (then) discovered that this syndicate had organized eight more camps.”

The accused “fraudulently obtained” 1.24 million rupees ($16,700) in cash, according to police.

Meanwhile, police in Kolkata have detained a man posing as a civil servant with a master’s degree in genetics who allegedly ran up to eight bogus vaccination clinics.

At least 250 disabled and transgender people were injected at one location, according to police, and nearly 500 people may have received fake injections across the city.

The seized vials were falsely labelled as containing the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, marketed in India as Covishield, according to Kolkata official Atin Ghosh.

“The Covishield label was discovered to be stuck over another label, that of Amikacin Sulphate 500 mg, an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the urinary tract, bones, brain, lungs, and blood,” Ghosh told AFP.

The scam was discovered after Mimi Chakraborty, an actress and politician, became suspicious after receiving a shot at one of the camps to raise awareness.

The suspect was found with two fake ID cards, one for an information ministry official and the other for a municipal commissioner. His car was adorned with stickers from the Kolkata government.

Many of those who had been injected, according to Debashis Barui, a Kolkata health official, is now “panicking” about the possible side effects.

“In the event of an emergency, civic authorities will set up medical camps in the area to care for those who have received fake shots,” Barui told AFP.

Ruma Sikdar, 35, one of them, said she had been feeling drowsy and had pain in her arm.

“What concerns me is how to get the real dose before the third wave,” the housewife explained.

“We didn’t think this could happen at a time when the world is fighting a pandemic,” said Debjit Majumdar, another student who received the fake jab.

Candidates for the Lagos Chairmanship of the APC Party are deeply involved in a certificate forgery scandals

0

Some APC chairmanship candidates in the Lagos state local government council election in July are currently embroiled in various certificate forgery scandals.

Princess Surah Olayemi Animashaun of Epe LGA, Kevin Oluwaseun Gabriel, formerly known as Kelvin Luchiano of Apapa LGA, and Kafayat Layeni of Ojodu Local Council Development Authority are among the candidates (LCDA).

There are questions about Funmilayo Mohammed of Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Hamed Salawu of Shomolu, and Olarunde Folorunsho of Olorunda LCDA’s credentials, which are currently being investigated.

Surah, who is being sponsored by Oba Kamorudeen Animashaun, the Oloja of Epe Kingdom, presented a fake West African Examination Council (WAEC) certificate despite claiming to have graduated from a Nigerian university.

On the 24th of May, 2021, the Epe APC candidate submitted two separate statements of results to the party’s Tola Kasali-led screening committee, and on the 27th of May, 2021, to the Department of State Services.

Surah’s name and the same year, 1991, were on both statements of results, but the inputs were different.

The APC candidate also refused to present the original WAEC certificate 30 years after taking the exam, according to SaharaReporters.

Surah also failed to submit a certificate or exemption letter from the National Youth Service Corps, indicating that she served or was exempted.

Kafayat, the APC candidate in Ojodu LCDA, was also presented with a forged certificate by James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Ikeja Federal Constituency.

WAEC has rejected her claim that she received a C6 in the English Language, a C5 in Government, a C4 in Economics, a C4 in Mathematics, a D7 in Biology, a C5 in Commerce, and a C3 in Accounts.

Kevin, who is backed by Mr Tunde Balogun, the APC party chairman in Lagos State, also presented a fake National Examination Council (NECO) certificate in Apapa LGA, claiming he took the exam in November 2008 at the Command High School, Araromi-Obu, Ondo state, at the age of over 40.

The school did not conduct any NECO external examinations in November 2008, according to a letter obtained.

“I stated unequivocally that the above-mentioned school does not have a center for NECO External candidates, and that the school does not hold NECO external examinations in November 2008.” As a result, the school disassociates itself from any fraudulent practices,” read a letter signed on behalf of the Principal by the Vice Principal, Academic.

An APC official stated that immediate action must be taken to ensure that the party does not lose seats as a result of fielding these questionable candidates.

“Right now, investigations are ongoing in areas like Apapa Iganmu with Funmilayo Mohammed, Shomolu with Hamed Salawu, and Olarunde Folorunsho of Olorunda LCDA because these areas are also likely to be affected,” he said.

“The problems with these forged documents are not limited to chairmen and their deputies; councillors in some local governments are also involved. Toheeb Shokunbi, a councillor in Ikorordu Central, is one of many such cases across the state.

“One has to wonder why the APC did not conduct a thorough and proper verification process prior to putting these candidates on the ballot box. The APC must now act quickly because the opposition parties have all of the evidence of these wrongdoings and are ready to use it to their advantage if the need arises.”

Seme Border: Group charges Amb Buratai to facilitate healthy trade relations, national security between Nigeria/Benin Republic

… passes vote of confidence on Nigeria’s envoy to the Benin Republic

Nigeria’s Ambassador to the Benin Republic, Amb Tukur Buratai, has been tasked to swiftly hit the ground running, enhancing trade relations and trans-border security between both nations, especially around the Seme Border.

Passing a vote of confidence on the former Chief of Army Staff, the Nigeria First movement said Amb Buratai is tailor-made for the job owing to his vast experience in military and diplomacy.

Lt. Gen Buratai (rtd) and immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Abayomi Olanisakin (rtd) were on Tuesday presented with letters of credence as envoys to Benin and Cameroon respectively.

And according to Nigeria First, Buratai’s confirmation shows that President Muhammadu Buhari was satisfied with his performance as COAS, having effectively flushed out insurgents and other criminal elements from the North-East and other parts of the country.

Speaking on behalf of the group at a press conference on Friday in Abuja, Secretary-General, Comrade Augustine Richard Adie, noted that Buratai’s appointment is a welcome development at a time the nation’s border is under several threats.

Adie added that with Buratai, trade relations between the two countries will be strengthened more than ever, leading to more foreign exchange for Nigeria.

Recalling his stint as Army chief, Adie hailed Buratai for a successful campaign against insurgency in the country which has translated to peace and security to several parts especially in the once-troubled North-East

He, however, advised members of the opposition party and other disgruntled individuals to stop the campaign aimed to malign Buratai’s image.

Expressing total confidence in his ability, the group called on all Nigerians to extend support for the country’s new Ambassador to the Benin Republic.

Read the full statement below:

Nigeria First, heartily congratulates Ambassador, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd) on his recent appointment. We are happy to finally acknowledged that “the Best man for the job has finally arrived”.

Knowing about the way Nigerians have continuously expressed their enraged feelings about the matters of insecurity in the country, ever since when Boko Haram insurgency has taken the country unaware since 2009 when they began a violent campaign in North-East Nigeria, everyone now believes in every reason to tighten up our security portals.

Having fought a good fight to subdue and weaken internal terrorism and banditry in the country, President Muhammadu Buhari took a great strategic move on this appointment because he was satisfied with your performance and your great knowledge of international diplomacy.

Therefore, Mr President saw the need to expand frontiers in the war against insurgency in the country, which in our opinion culminated in the appointment of the former service chiefs as non-career ambassadors to galvanize the much needed regional support at addressing the threat posed by the Boko Haram insurgents.

For the record, Nigeria has never experienced a much peaceful time as compare to when Buratai was Chief of Army Staff since the rampage of Book Haram had begun.

Nigeria is still battling insurgency even with the change of Service Chiefs that most Nigerians had clamoured for. And was that the solution? Has that changed anything?

Instead, the situation has remained stagnant and getting worse as some stipulated by many.

The appointment of Ty Buratai is a welcome development in terms of the development of diplomacy and national security.

His appointment at a time when Nigeria’s border is under several threats is a wise decision made by the administration led by President Muhammadu Buhari. This move is vital and strengthens trade relations between the two countries.

Buratai is the ideal candidate for this position owing to his vast intellect and diplomatic skills. The current position to which he has been recently appointed must be handled delicately. It requires someone with profound intellect and experience. We are happy that Buratai has been chosen as the man for the job.

This is a man that served the country as a military leader without a blemish on his entire career. This is the right reward for a man who has served his country diligently and to the best of his abilities. This is a man who has given his all to the nation and we have no doubt that he will do the same in his current position.

However, despite the flawless record of this man, his appointment has been bathed with opprobrium by several individuals who believe that he is not fit for the job for several reasons best known to them. There have also been several claims that his appointment is all in a bid to protect him from prosecution for crimes wrongfully alleged against him. These, we believe are the evil efforts of several members of the opposition party and other disgruntled individuals to sully Buratai’s image. These individuals have failed to see the bigger picture but have instead chosen to allow politics and senseless sentiments to blindfold them. These individuals are only after their interest instead of national interest. Nigeria is currently in a delicate situation presently. The country has been plagued by insecurity and corruption amongst others and senseless political propaganda should not be added to the list.

Buratai’s appointment is a promising development as it has a lot of potential advantages, one of which is the fact that the former chief of Army Staff has a vast network of friends and acquaintances globally. This is a great boost in terms of diplomacy and will be very beneficial in his current position.

Buratai has a lot of unique skills in his arsenals such as his vast wealth of experience as a war veteran, a peacekeeper, an administrator and his efficiency in maintaining order and stability in conflict-ridden areas around the country. These skills will be very vital when it comes to his orchestration of diplomatic relationships and strategy.

Let us all not be quick to forget his successful campaign against insurgency in the country and how he managed to bring peace and security to several parts of the country especially in the northeast. During his reign as the chief of army staff, he moved his base to the forefront of the war where he managed to defeat and wipe out many terrorists especially the one hidden in the enclaves of the Sambisa forest.

Instead of the fight against insecurity, those of us familiar with the dynamics and state of play in the international arena will see the wisdom behind his appointment. It is a wise move to involve the international community in the fight against terrorism and banditry by appointing an individual who is conversant with the necessities of Nigeria and the various areas in which support is needed.

It is well known that the trans-border security between Nigeria and the Benin Republic is quite low and has been plagued by smugglers and bandits. Buratai’s experience when it comes to tackling insecurity is thus priceless in dealing with border security between Nigeria and the Benin Republic. His diplomatic skills are also sure to improve trade relations between the two countries.

Several businessmen and women have been clamouring over the closure of the Nigeria-Benin Republic border and have explained how the border closure has affected their business. We can boldly say to you all that have faith in Buratai as all issues regarding the Border closure and trade relations will soon be resolved.

Nigeria’s lost revenue to the Benin Republic has been a troubling issue to the country. It goes without saying that no nation can survive without its foreign exchange earnings and Nigeria is in no way an exception. We are certain that the ambassador will employ his sagacity and diplomatic skills to see to the re-opening of the Nigerian-Benin Republic border as soon as possible.

Buratai has been a loyal and patriotic servant to the people of Nigeria. His records and portfolio are excellent. He boasts a lot of skills, expertise and experience. He made incredible contributions towards the establishment of the Nigerian Amry University which greatly improved pedagogic approaches towards tackling insurgency in the country. His leadership boosted the morale of the Nigerian army and greatly influenced the war against insurgency. The time he served as a service chief has been widely regarded as one of the most productive in the annals of the Nigerian army. Under his leadership, the Nigerian army was rated high as regards human rights compliance by various international bodies. This was achieved as a result of his establishment of human rights offices to address issues regarding human rights violations by officers. This is another example of the insight the man portrays.

Nigeria plays a strategic leadership role in Africa and the appointment of a man as sagacious and experienced as TY Buratai ensures that Nigeria cements its place as the giants and leaders in the African continent. It is well known to all that Nigeria is a country looked up to owing to its portfolio, thus, the appointment of Buratai as a representative in the Republic of Benin is a step in the right direction.

It makes much strategic sense because we would be sure that Buratai would put his wealth of knowledge to bear, especially in addressing some of the issues of concern for the country regarding Boko Haram getting logistics support outside the country.

Ambassador Tukur Buratai remains a great asset to our country because of his deep foresight on national security. He is also a military historian, and thus good that he has offered himself once again in service to the country.

Nigeria First expresses total confidence in Buratai as a model of patriotism and chauvinism. His many accomplishments are a testament to the fact that his appointment was the right decision by the current administration. We call on all Nigerians to extend their support to the newly appointed ambassador rather than greet his appointment with baseless criticisms. Let us also continue to provide our endless support to the current President of this great nation and his administration as they work tirelessly for the growth and development of Nigeria.

God Bless President Buhari, God Bless Nigeria.
