The Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has issued a warning, saying that those pushing former President Goodluck Jonathan to run for president in 2027 are purposefully trying to bring the nation to ruin.

Despite Jonathan’s well-established reputation as a worldwide statesman, Wike claimed on Channels Television’s “Politics Today” Thursday night that it was hypocritical for the same individuals who thwarted his 2015 bid to demand for his return.

Since Jonathan will only serve one term, anyone who suggests that he should return is merely seeking a crisis. In 2015, these same individuals deserted him. Why at this time? According to Wike, Jonathan has established himself internationally, and they only wish to involve him in needless disputes.

The minister called such actions “insincere” and warned against attempts to upset the political equilibrium by supporting Jonathan or any other Southern candidate under the pretense of a “one-term presidency.”

Wike acknowledged that the nation was going through a terrible period under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, but he maintained that the president had made difficult but vital choices to realign the economy.

Indeed, there are difficulties. Yes, I agree. It is undeniable, however, that this government is working to make things better. He emphasized, “I see the projects in Abuja every day; they are proof that something is happening.”

Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, was also criticized by Wike for his hypocritical recent warnings of an impending revolution due to poverty and famine.

“Atiku served eight years as vice president. Then, why didn’t he provide the framework to stop hunger? He is now constantly discussing revolution and starvation. I don’t even bother reading his statements since, in my opinion, they are untrue,” Wike said.

Nigerians must be patient with the Tinubu administration, the FCT minister insisted, but opposition leaders shouldn’t take advantage of the country’s current economic difficulties for their own political ends.

Due to allegations of insubordination and unauthorized fee collection related to the Junior Secondary School test results, the Sokoto State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has suspended six school principals.

Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, the state commissioner for basic and secondary education, gave his approval for the suspension to take effect immediately on Monday.

Giginya Memorial College, Nana Girls Secondary School, Sokoto, Government Day Secondary School (GDSS) Gagi, GDSS Mana, Mana Basic Secondary School, Sokoto, and GDSS Silame are among the principals who have been suspended for insubordination.

A five-member investigative committee has also been established by the commissioner to look into the claims in order to resolve the infractions.
Professor Mustapha Namakka Tukur is the chair of the committee, which also includes the Director of Planning (Teachers Service Board), the Executive Secretary of AIEB, the Director of Quality Assurance, and the Director of Quality Assurance, who will also act as secretary.

The ministry instructed the suspended principals to immediately transfer all administrative duties to their corresponding Vice Principals (Administration).
The ministry restated its commitment to discipline, accountability, and openness in all public schools in Sokoto State in a statement signed by Ibrahim Mohammad Iya, the ministry’s public relations officer, and provided to reporters on Friday on behalf of the commissioner.

“School administrators and principals will not be permitted to violate the law or take advantage of parents and students.”

We respectfully ask that all payments for self-collection associated with active PFIs be put on hold until further notice in light of this development. Long-standing claims that former President Olusegun Obasanjo previously attempted to serve more than the two terms allowed by the constitution have been refuted.

Recall that Obasanjo was Nigeria’s leader from 1999 to 2007.

Speaking Wednesday at the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation’s Democracy Dialogue in Accra, Ghana, Obasanjo claimed that neither living nor deceased Nigerians could provide proof that he had ever advocated for a third term.

“I think I’m not a fool,” he said. I know how to approach it if I wanted it, or at least someone thought I did. I contacted him and told him I wanted the third term, but no Nigerian, living or dead, will claim that. Nothing.

If he had been sincere in his pursuit of a third term, the former president contended, he could have achieved debt relief for Nigeria, which he described as a much more challenging accomplishment.

As he put it, “I keep telling them that, look, if I wanted to get debt relief, which is more difficult than getting a third term and I got it, I would have gotten a third term too.”

Regarded as one of the most significant accomplishments of Obasanjo’s government, Nigeria obtained a $18 billion debt relief deal from the Paris Club in 2005.

Leaders who believe they are indispensable should be avoided, Obasanjo added, calling such an attitude a “sin against God.”
