Public university B.Ed students will receive N75,000 per semester

0

According to Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education, the federal government has granted a stipend of N75,000 per semester for students pursuing degree programs in education at public universities across the country.

He also stated that Nigeria Certificate in Education students will be paid N50,000 per semester as a stipend.

This, he claims, is to attract the brightest minds to the teaching profession and to encourage the top graduates to choose teaching jobs.

On Tuesday, he spoke in Abuja at a ceremony commemorating World Teachers’ Day 2021, with the subject “Teachers at the Heart of Education Recovery.”

The minister, who was represented by his permanent secretary, Sonny Echono, stated that his ministry would work with state governments to ensure that students are automatically employed upon graduation.

“B.Ed/B.A. Ed/BSc. Ed students in public universities will receive stipends of N75,000.00 every semester, while NCE students would receive stipends of N50,000.00 per semester.

“The Federal Government should develop a way for individual state governments to automatically employ NCE graduates at the Basic Education level,” he stated.

The National Teacher Education Policy and other policies on teaching careers should be reviewed by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria; the Ministerial Strategic Plan and previous policies on teacher retention should be reviewed by NCCE; and the phrase “first-class graduates” should be replaced with “high flyers.”

Most of the milestones in the repositioning of teachers, according to President Muhammadu Buhari, would be met by January 2022.

He also promised that impacted teachers’ unpaid salary will be paid by December 2021.

Buhari, who was represented by Minister of State for Education Emeka Nwajiuba, said the Ministry of Education has started a pilot program to raise the retirement age for teachers and education officers to 65 or 40 years of service.

Nasir Idris, President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, stated that teachers must be properly equipped, empowered, and supported in order to be effective in carrying out the work of education recovery.

He asked the federal and state governments, as well as private citizens, to work together to restore peace, order, and peaceful coexistence in schools and school communities for the country’s benefit.

Idris urged “erring” state governments to immediately adopt the National Minimum Wage.

He said that in some states, primary school teachers’ salaries were not being paid on time.

He requested the federal government to generously approve the payment of the 27.5 percent professional allowance to Federal Government Colleges teachers.

Reps form technical committee to Probe Sports Ministry’s failed doping test

0

Hon.Olumide Osoba, Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, announced yesterday that a Technical Committee had been formed to investigate the activities of the Federal Ministry of Sports in relation to the failed doping test by Nigerian athletes at the recently concluded Olympic Games in Tokyo.

After a closed-door meeting with Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, in which the Minister declined to answer questions about the meeting’s outcome, Osoba made the announcement before the National Assembly.

According to him, the report of the Technical Committee, which is chaired by Hon. Rauf Modibbo, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Sports, will be submitted alongside the Ministry’s own committee.

In two weeks, he claims, the Minister of Sports and Youth Development will appear before the Committee.

“Let me explain how the parliament works: a motion was moved, and a committee was formed to look into what actually transpired. The Committee now requires all of the information in order to complete its task.

“What we did was establish a Committee to investigate the events that occurred, and I discussed with the Ministry that we want the report of that Committee along with the report of our Committee, and members would go over both reports, and then we would call the Ministry, the Committee, and some athletes back, and we would have a proper interactive session with them.

“We want to do a comprehensive job, so we’ll need all of the details regarding what happened. We don’t have to rush through a work that isn’t thorough.

“They’ll come back in two weeks, when enough information will have been shared with the members for them to perform a complete job. We would not begin an interactive session unless we have all of the necessary information. We don’t want to do anything half-assed. All of you will be invited in two weeks when they appear in front of Parliament.

“A motion has been filed, and they must appear in front of the House of Commons. You will all be called back and we will have that session once we have all of the information we need to complete our task.

“There are two committees,” he claims. This is being investigated by our own committee, a sub-Committee. The sports committee is our name. We don’t need to inform you about the investigation panels we formed.

“The entire House gave us a briefing to go investigate. As a result, we’ve formed a technical sub-Committee to look into it. They have their own committee as well, the Ministry has established its own investigation committee. Both reports would be combined, and we’d go over them before calling them to explain what’s going on.

Sponsor of the motion on the ‘Need to examine operations of the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development over failed drug tests by Nigerian athletes at the recently ended Olympic Games in Tokyo,’ responded to a query after the meeting.

Hon. Lawrence Ayeni stated that the Committee did not provide adequate warning to members prior to the Chairman’s emergency meeting.

“We would have been prepared for the meeting today if we had known about it earlier,” he said. And because not all of the members were present in the Chamber today, there were only three of us, we decided to postpone the meeting to another day.

“But I can’t tell what the minister is here for right now because we’re in budget season, and I’ve learned that the committee’s issue with doping is one of them, but I don’t think we’ll be hearing from them today. Right now, I’m unable to provide you with a date.

“I am not the Committee’s Chairman. The Chairman has the authority to say anything else. However, I am aware that the Minister is prepared to come and address any questions. I’m confident they’ll return,” Hon. Ayeni stated.

Hon. Ayeni expressed grave concern in his opening debate about the turn of events in which the World Athletics’ independent anti-doping arm, Athletics Integrity Unit, slammed the door on no fewer than ten Nigerian athletes, including the highly rated Blessing Okagbare, who had represented the country proudly at various international competitions.

He bemoaned the fact that ten Nigerian athletes were among the 18 athletes from “high-risk” countries who were excluded from competing in the Tokyo Olympics after failing to meet out-of-competition drug testing rules.

According to him, Blessing Okagbare, who won her first heat in the Women’s 100 meters on Friday, tested positive for human growth hormone, according to a statement released by the Athletics Integrity Unit.

Ayeni, who expressed displeasure with the development, also expressed concern that, despite the large sums of money made available on a yearly basis for Regulatory Agencies in the Sport sector, there is no specific facility that will allow Nigeria to enter Category A, which is reserved for countries that have made “significant improvements” in anti-doping efforts.

As a result, the House’s Committee on Sports was charged with investigating the immediate and remote causes of the failed doping test in order to prevent future occurrences and enhance its oversight function.

NYSC scheme and defense of truth

Excellence can simply be defined as the quality of being outstanding or extremely good. It is not just about doing the right thing; it is about doing it exceptionally well.

The truth is, the more people there are in any society who put uncommon efforts into common everyday tasks, the more progress it makes. Therefore, I can boldly tell you that the CORE of Excellence is Unity, which flows from discussions of issues, and deliberate actions that reinforce confidence of people in genuine conservation around peaceful coexistence.

_“If Nigeria is to make rapid progress on all fronts internally, and if she’s to make her mark on the continent of Africa, and, indeed, in the comity of nations, her youths must be fully mobilized and be prepared to offer willingly and without asking for rewards in return, their best in the service of their nation at all times,”_ Gen. Yakubu Gowon, former Head of
State, said during the inauguration of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on June 4, 1973.

Above was the statement made by a great visionary leader that saw the best catalyst of a Nation’s growth as the involvement of Her Youth in her daily affairs. This Truth have they uphold for decades, and they kept upholding it.

I can proudly say that, “one of the major factors that greatly geared me towards properly integrating into the Nigerian labour market and establishing a successful career is the NYSC scheme”. It helped me better appreciate the different ethnic groups and cultures in Nigeria. It is therefore ludicrous that some conscienceless individuals are out to overrun the scheme .

The scheme which was established by the Yakubu Gowon administration in 1973 has since succeeded in achieving the several mandates it has pledged to achieve. If the scheme is properly gone over with a fine-tooth comb, one would realize that the NYSC scheme remains one of the greatest catalysts of promoting peace, national unity and cultural integration in the country. Thanks to the scheme, many Nigerian youths have learnt to appreciate cultural diversity and make friends and connections with individuals across the country. It has also helped eliminate tribalism and inter-cultural hatred.

It is quite obvious that the underhand activities by the individuals who want the scheme dead are aimed at either propagating political propaganda or an attempt to create enmity in the country. It is sad to also note that these individuals were also beneficiaries of the scheme, but have all quickly forgotten the numerous benefits they gained from the scheme.

There have been many defamatory claims and remarks against the NYSC scheme such as inadequate security for corps members; inadequate provision of welfare to corps members and poor states of orientation camps across the states in the country amongst other risible and false claims. These very individuals have forgotten the reason for the establishment of the scheme. They have also forgotten that the NYSC scheme was the reason why Nigeria was able to quickly heal from the wounds of the civil war and peace was rapidly restored in the country. The country is presently faced with threats of disintegration; in lieu of this, the NYSC remains one of the foremost factors in fighting against the horned demon of disintegration. Thus, it is obvious that anyone who stands against the scheme is not in support of having a ‘One Nigeria.’

It is important to note that, unlike the many false claims against the scheme, it has gone on carrying its mandates and the orientation of corps members in a secure and excellent environment in spite of the many challenges faced by the scheme. If you are opportune to visit an orientation camp in Nigeria, you would discover that the camps are in an impeccable state. The officials of the NYSC have done their best to ensure that proper accommodation in orientation camps are provided to corps members, good food and water and other basic amenities are provided in orientation camps. Medical screenings are also done on prospective corps members to ensure that they are healthy before they are admitted into the orientation camps.

No society, organization or country can hope to maximize its potential without forging a culture of excellence. The greatest disincentive in the pursuit of excellence, however, is the demonstration and tolerance of mediocrity by leadership. There
must be no conflicting signals. Those who have chosen to lead us have exemplified excellence in demonstrated integrity and competence, but a lot of detractors, anti-democracy manipulators, and crooks in politics have been trying to discredit the ambiguous effort this great administration has for our darling nation, through consistent futile attacks on pulling down The National Youth Service Corps.

Just recently, the NYSC made it mandatory that COVID-19 tests are carried out on prospective corps members before their admittance into the orientation camps. You would be surprised that in contrast to the libels against the NYSC scheme, the services and amenities provided by the scheme to corps members are top-notch. These camps are kept clean and secure thanks to the efforts of the sagacious officials.

It is also important to note that under the present administration, renovations have been carried out on several orientation camps across the country. Many dilapidated camps have also been restored and proper basic amenities which were once lacking have been brought back to the camps and made more conducive for living.

This goes a long way to show that the Nigerian government and the NYSC officials have the corps members at heart and they take their health and safety as a priority. If you visit the NYSC orientation camps, you would find medical workers who are dedicated to ensuring that all corps members are healthy and properly treated in the event of an emergency. All these factors have been put in place by the NYSC to provide a conducive and healthy environment for corps members so that throughout the duration of the scheme, they are kept safe and healthy. After all, safety and health are paramount in the life of every individual.

At this point, scrapping the NYSC would be utterly inane. It would be no better than reopening past wounds that haven’t completely healed. The present administration is currently doing its best in maintaining peace and unity in the country. Eliminating a major factor in promoting peace and unity in the country would only make the present situation in the country worse. It would breed hostility amongst Nigerian youths and destroy what our past leaders had worked so hard to achieve.

I can boldly say that I benefitted a lot from the scheme. During my year of service, I met a lot of people who positively influenced me, and made me see life from different perspectives; thanks to the diversity in their ethnicity. I also made a lot of friends and connections which has helped me in my journey through life. Several of the clients I work for, and with, were introduced to me by some of my friends who I met during my year of service. Presently, the NYSC continues to maintain its culture of excellence in the orientation camps equipping corps members with the necessary skills needed to build successful careers and contribute to the development of the nation.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s led administration has over the years, through a great relentless effort, shown and proven that; it is not possible to circumvent excellence in character and productive output, and still be able to get ahead.
His leadership’s response towards the support given to the NYSC scheme has been commensurate with his dertermination to build and sustain excellence all through Nation.

What the country needs now isn’t scrapping of the NYSC, rather, the scheme should be preserved and protected. Certain areas of the scheme should be reformed. Better incentives can be provided to corps members. Security and safety of corps members should also be enhanced. I believe that the NYSC scheme should be fostered for any administration to take the country to greater heights.

EFCC investigating charges of N157 billion pension scam

0

Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), drew the battle line on Tuesday following the discovery of a N157 billion pension fraud.

He stated that the EFCC will put an end to the country’s pension system’s rot.

Abdulkarim Chukkol, the EFCC’s Director of Operations, revealed that the anti-graft agency had looked into alleged pension fraud cases worth over N157 billion.

Bawa said the commission would implement the anti-fraud rules, speaking in Abuja at the start of a two-day sensitisation seminar on eradicating pension fraud in Nigeria.

“Nigeria operated the Defined Benefit Scheme for many years until 2004, when President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration introduced pension industry reforms that announced the Contributory Pension Scheme,” he said (CPS).

“At the time, the new design was seen to be the antidote to the old order’s issues and flaws. But, after two decades of operation, it is clear that, while we have made some progress, we are still a long way from our goal. We can’t say how much money is wasted due to pension fraud because the vast majority of cases go unreported or underreported. The EFCC, on the other hand, has examined and recorded hundreds of billions of naira lost to pension fraud.

“However, in addition to the monetary loss, there is also the incalculable loss of dignity in the retiree who must grovel and beg (and in some cases, die) in order to access his contributions. It is a national disgrace that those who have devoted their most productive years to us in various capacities must endure misery in retirement.

“At the EFCC, we find that a large portion of the cases we come across while investigating public sector corruption are inextricably tied to the worker’s frantic attempts to escape the pitiful situations he observes among today’s retirees.

“As the coordinating agency for the enforcement of all economic and financial crime legislation in Nigeria, the EFCC is well aware of the rot in the pension system.

“Our sub-sector investigations, particularly in relation to the Police Pension Office and the Pension Office of the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, among others, exposed us to a mind-boggling spectrum of fraudulent acts that cut across all industry players.”

Bawa reassured everyone that the country’s pension system was about to turn around.

“I am firmly convinced that the turnaround of the Nigeria pension system requires a wide national consensus, which must begin with maximising the impact of this summit,” he continued.

“At the EFCC, while we are implementing our preventive mandate through this summit and other soon-to-be-launched programs, we will continue to strictly enforce all Nigerian anti-fraud legislation.

“I guarantee you that we are both willing and capable of doing everything possible now to ensure that when we all pass to the other side of the road in retirement, we will truly live the lives of the PFA models!

“In fact, I am highly optimistic that the pension administration and fraud prevention reforms that will be the natural outcomes of this summit will be quickly implemented by all stakeholders for everyone’s immediate and long-term benefit.”

According to the EFCC chairman, President Muhammadu Buhari has shown that he has the political will to fight corruption in the country.

“…I can tell you that one thing is unmistakable in Mr. President’s mind: when it comes to the fight against corruption, there is no shortage of political will to make painful decisions,” he said.

“Let me stress that the primary goal of this project, our entire hope, is for Nigeria to establish a pensions system that is transparent, responsible, and attentive to the requirements of the country’s most important, venerable, and vulnerable stakeholder – the retiree.

“We believe that by uniting our resources and knowledge, we can disrupt the Nigerian pensions system’s cycle of fraud, inefficiency, and mutual distrust.”

According to EFCC Operations Director Chukkol, there were 21 petitions filed between 2010 and 2016 alleging N111 billion in pension fraud.

“There was a case of 554 seniors’ pensions going into one person’s account,” he stated.

“The EFCC has looked into almost N157 billion in alleged pension cases. Including a N19.5 billion special case and a N5 billion lawsuit linked to a director.

“According to our findings, 70% of the money intended to pay retirees ended up in private pockets. We gave it our all, and we were able to recover a significant amount of evidence and secure 11 convictions.

“We observed that many pension offices lack a database, and those that have don’t keep it up to date. There is always the possibility of diverting pension monies.

“The majority of those who work in the pension office are quite wealthy. We will try to ensure that the entire system is altered. In 14 zones, we have Pension Investigation Units. Investigators have been dispatched to all of the zones.”

Nigeria is not on UK COVID-19 red list countries to visit — FG

Nigeria is not on the United Nations’ COVID-19 red list, according to the federal government, and its status has not changed.

The UK government has previously placed some countries on the COVID-19 red list, requiring them to be confined for 14 days in a UK-supervised facility upon arrival.

However, at the Weekly Press Briefing on the Update on COVID-19 Vaccine in Nigeria, held in Abuja yesterday, Executive Director of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Faisal Shuaib, stated that the Nigerian instance was unique.

“I’d want to comment on the UK Government’s statement that was made yesterday,” he stated.

Nigeria’s situation has remained unchanged. Nigeria is not one of the countries on the red list that must spend 14 days in a supervised UK facility.

“The UK government’s statement follows the press’s announcement last week that Nigerians will continue to isolate once they get in the UK. This is comparable to our requirement that UK visitors be isolated for seven days once they arrive in Nigeria.

“These standards are currently being reviewed by the Presidential Steering Committee. We’ve reached out to the UK government. The present listing o, as they said plainly in their communication,

In the United Kingdom, the list of countries with recognized vaccination certification has only recently begun.

“They are conducting a phased evaluation of the country’s initiatives. If you look closely at the list of 50 countries, you’ll see that none of them are from Africa.

“The United Kingdom government has yet to conduct a thorough examination of Nigeria’s vaccination certification program. According to my conversations with UK government authorities, the vaccines given in Nigeria are authorised by the British government.

“Through the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), they are also working with the vaccine campaign in Nigeria, and they are hoping that by the time Nigeria’s COVID-19 immunization is completed, they will be able to help program certification will be evaluated and approved.

“Because there are so many countries in the world, we, like so many others, are in line for this assessment. We are more than likely to get accepted in the coming weeks whenever it comes to our time. The assessment process would take place in stages, as the UK government has stated.

“In recent weeks, we have escalated campaigns for the uptake of second dosage through diverse media techniques, stakeholders, and community participation, and these have generated considerable results,” he continued. To enhance vaccine uptake, however, more work needs to be done together.

“We will continue to work with citizens to promote a faster vaccination uptake, and we will continue to rely on your expert assistance to ensure that individuals are sufficiently protected against COVID-19.”

The NPHCDA chief also revealed that the country has received extra COVID-19 vaccine and has devised techniques for prudent administration.

“I am writing to notify you that we received 501,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccinations from the COVAX facility as a gift from the French government yesterday evening. We’ve also received assurance that 3,577,860 Pfizer vaccine doses will be delivered in the next two weeks.

“As part of our commitment to Nigerians and the media, as part of our transparency process, we would be providing you with figures of the adverse event following immunization reported.

As WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram experience global outages, Zuckerberg suffers a $7 billion loss

0

On Monday, social media platforms around the world experienced outages, with users unable to access them for hours.

As users logged in for information and connection with friends, the platforms WhatsApp, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, and Instagram, all owned by Mark Zuckerberg, were unable to offer features unique to each other.

Only posts loaded before the glitch were available yesterday evening, according to our correspondent, and the refresh function for new posts was not churning out new Facebook posts.

Similarly, media content on the status bar was not updating or loading, despite the fact that it had been posted prior to the glitch.

The situation was similar on WhatsApp, where messages were not being delivered.

Ibrahim Musa, a platform user, said he had to turn off his phone twice because he couldn’t access the platforms.

“I was desperate to check Facebook because I had received an important message. Later, I learned from a colleague that I am not the only one who is having problems.”

When another user, Habib Taofeeq, messaged someone on WhatsApp, he had no idea the platforms had gone down.

“I tried refreshing my Facebook page as well, but it kept recycling old posts, so I assumed it was a network problem. It was only later that I discovered it was a widespread issue.”

@WhatsApp, on the other hand, used another social media platform, Twitter, to say: “We’re aware that some people are having issues with WhatsApp right now.”

“We’re working to restore normalcy and will provide an update as soon as possible. Thank you very much for your patience!”

“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products,” @Facebook tweeted. We’re working hard to restore normalcy as soon as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”

“Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them,” wrote @IstagramComms on Twitter. Please bear with us; we’re working on it! #istagramdown.”

After a whistleblower came forward and outages took Facebook Inc.’s flagship products offline, Mark Zuckerberg’s personal wealth dropped by nearly $7 billion in a few hours, knocking him down a notch on the list of the world’s richest people, according to Bloomberg.

According to Bloomberg, a selloff sent the social media behemoth’s stock down around 5% on Monday, bringing its total loss to about 15% since mid-September.

The stock market decline on Monday reduced Zuckerberg’s net worth to $120.9 billion, putting him behind Bill Gates in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index at No. 5. According to the index, he has lost nearly $19 billion in wealth since September 13, when he was worth nearly $140 billion.

The Wall Street Journal began publishing a series of stories on September 13 based on a cache of internal documents, revealing that Facebook was aware of a wide range of issues with its products – such as Instagram’s negative impact on teenage girls’ mental health and misinformation about the Capitol riots on January 6 – while downplaying the issues in public.

The platforms were supposed to be back online at the time of filing this report.

Experts: Biotechnology Can Aid in the Achievement of the SDGs

0

Experts in biotechnology say that with the world’s population expected to reach nine billion by 2050, embracing biotechnological innovations can help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

They said this on Monday at the Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), Ibadan, during the 2nd Recent Advances in Biotechnology Conference and Workshop (RAIB-2021).
Dr. Charlse Adetunji, President of the Nigeria Bioinformatics and Genomics Network, spoke on innovations for diverse global challenges using functional bioinformatics approaches, especially during the COVID era, in his keynote address, emphasizing the importance of biotechnology for the future.

He suggested that innovations in bioinformatics on the sustainable environment and circular economy could be used as tools to achieve the SDGs and address climate change challenges.

According to him, the world population will reach nine million by 2050, and agricultural production will need to increase by 60%, according to the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).

“Agriculture must undergo a significant transformation to feed the world’s growing population,” Adetunji said.

“Climate change increases the difficulty of achieving this goal, particularly in developing countries where food insecurity and poverty are common.”

The discovery of a new bioherbicide, according to the expert, could help farmers avoid using synthetic herbicides, which is one of the threats to food safety, the ecosystem, and human health.

Dr. Su Shiung Lam of the University of Malaysia Terengganu, who spoke about the latest innovation in the conversion of waste into value-added products using microwave vacuum pyrolysis, said the process was very efficient and bio-friendly.

“Microwave vacuum pyrolysis simultaneously treats waste plastic and used cooking oil.” “It has a fast heating rate, a quick reaction time, low energy, and a high product yield,” he explained.

Microwave pyrolysis and bacterial fermentation integrated into the bioplastic production system, according to Lam, were the solution the world needed.

“It uses microwave co-pyrolysis to convert commercial plastic waste to biofuel and bio-oil, and then Bacterial Fermentation of bio-oil to produce bioplastic,” he explained.

Akunyili: IPOB/ESN a curse on Ndigbo, group alleges

0

Following the assassination of Dr Chike Akunyili, the widower of late NAFDAC DG, Dora, the Igbos in Nigeria Movement (INM) has declared the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant arm, Eastern Security Network as curse to Ndigbo.

According to the group, Nnamdi Kanu’s actions has proven that he is a man on a mission to destroy Igbo Land.

The group made this known today in a statement signed by its Director, Emmanuel Ebuka.

The proscirbed separatist group is alleged to have masterminded the murder of the late medical practitioner and other violent incidences in the region.

And according to the INM, Akunyili’s death has left “a sour taste in our mouths regarding the activities of IPB/ESN in the South-East”, noting that the brazen act is a complete denigration of the revered Igbo culture.

The group said all well-meaning sons and daughters of Igbo extraction must rise in defence of their land from Nnamdi Kanu and his bloodthirsty group.

While calling on Kanu and his cohorts to desist forthwith from their nefarious activities, the INM urged all security agencies to go all out for the members of IPOB/ESN.

If nothing is done, the group said a semblance of the Boko Haram insurrection in North-East could surface in the region.

The Igbos in Nigeria Movement, however, called for an immediate end to the violence, urging all well-meaning Igbo sons and daughters to disassociate themselves from their activities.

Read full statement below:

The gruesome murder of DrIIhike Akumyili and other innocent Igbo sons and daughters by IPOB/ESN in South-East Nigeria

We welcome you all to this critical press conference put together in condemnation of the nefarious activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra and its militia wing, the Eastern Security Network in South-East Nigeria, in recent times.

Ladies and gentlemen, we must agree that all is indeed not well in South-East Nigeria, with the escalating rate of kidnappings, murders and assassinations, which by and large is being perpetuated by a group of criminal elements parading themselves as agitators for the emancipation of Igbo land.

The Igbos in Nigeria Movement is alarmed that such unwholesome activities are being perpetuated without recourse to the socio-economic implications such actions would have in South-East Nigeria.

The recent assassination of eminent Physician Dr Chike Akunyili leaves a sour taste in our mouths regarding the activities of IPB/ESN in South-East Nigeria. It is indeed a brazen act of complete denigration of the revered Igbo culture.

The activities of IPOB/ESN are indeed sacrilegious, and the Igbos in Nigeria Movement condemns it in its entirety. These acts are demeaning, and as such, all well-meaning sons and daughters of Igbo extraction must rise in defence of Igbo land from Nnamdi Kanu and his group of blood-sucking demons.

It is also said that a man that calls himself an Igbo man would elect to bring misery to his people in his blind pursuit of self-aggrandizement, which he aims to achieve on the alter the blood of innocent Igbo sons and daughters.
It is no longer news that IPOB/ESN is carrying out most of the killings and arsons experienced in Igbo land. And the question is, for how long would these rascals and demons continue with their unholy trade?

The Igbos in Nigeria Movement uses this medium to send a warning to Nnamdi Kanu and his buffoons to desist forthwith from their nefarious activities that have brought untold sorrows, tears and blood in South-East Nigeria.
Nnamdi Kanu and his cohorts remain anti-Igbo. Their actions also portray an attempt to destabilize the South East region in return for a plate of porridge, which is shameful.

The Igbos in Nigeria Movement urges the various security agencies to go all out for the members of IPOB/ESN to end the reign of terror in South-East Nigeria. We also urge the federal government to ensure Nnamdi Kanu is made to account for his atrocities in South-East Nigeria. The families of innocent sons and daughters in Igbo land must get justice for the tears, sorrow and blood inflicted by the IPOB/ESN.

We also wish to state that it is on record theat Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB/ESN group is in bed with some vested interest that is bent on seeing the destruction of Igbo land, hence the senseless killings and attack on crucial government infrastructures.

Only the devils incarnate would derive joy in spiling innocent blood, and that is what Nnamdi Kanu represents. From all indications, they have sold their souls to the devil.

The Igbos in Nigeria Movement consequently states that Nnamdi Kanu is a curse upon the people of South-East Nigeria. His actions have proven that he is a man on a mission to destroy Igbo Land. But we shall resist him and his shenanigans.

The killings in South-East Nigeria must stop forthwith. The security agencies must go after IPOB/ESN members with utmost urgency; else, we risk a semblance of the Boko Haram insurrection in North-East Nigeria.
The Igbos in Nigeria Movement is optimistic that very soon, the nefarious activities of IPOB/ESN shall be nipped in the bud and the South East region shall experience sustainable peace and development.

We thank you all for your time and attention. We reiterate that Nnamdi Kanu and his IPOB/ESN renegades are not in the interest of Igbo land. As such, all well-meaning Igbo sons and daughters should disassociate themselves from their activities.

May God continues to bless Igbo Land as our commitment to the socio-economic development of the Igbo land remains unflinching.

“Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is the best candidate for the APC national championship position because he possesses the necessary credentials to ensure the party’s victory in 2023. He is a bridge builder with the dexterity to bring disparate interests across the country together.

“After careful deliberation, the groups unanimously agreed that Sen Sheriff is the only person who can ensure that what is due to the region is preserved. As a result, a solidarity rally and endorsement will be held on October 30th in Delta State to declare support for Sen Ali Modu Sherif as a consensus candidate for the South South. Every member of the party will benefit from increased dividends under a Sheriff chairmanship, according to the statement.
