North America Leaders hail ties but fail to resolve tensions

0

After their first summit in five years, the presidents of the United States, Canada, and Mexico praised their revitalized partnership, but trade and immigration problems remained mostly unsolved.

“Together as North America, we stand strong, and look to better rebuild our communities, our infrastructure, and our shared future as integrated partners,” said US President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in a joint statement following the summit.

The meeting of the Three Amigos in Washington, DC, was the first of its sort since 2016, when Donald Trump was elected president.

As part of a larger attempt to reestablish alliances and Washington’s support for international organizations, Biden, who assumed office in January, has sought to re-emphasize strong relations with Canada and Mexico.

The USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada) free trade pact binds the three nations and oversees $1.5 trillion in annual North American trade.

“If we just take the time to speak with one another, by working together,” Biden said after the meeting, the array of concerns mentioned, which included trade, migration, climate change, and the coronavirus pandemic, can be solved.

According to reports, a delegation led by First Republic legislator and Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, met with Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday and begged with him to intervene in Kanu’s case so that he might regain his freedom.

Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, a former Governor of Anambra State, Bishop Sunday Onuoha of the Methodist Church, and Barrister Goddy Uwazurike, a former President of the Igbo socio-cultural organisation Aka Ikenga, were among the other members of the visiting delegation.

“Muhammadu Buhari doesn’t comprehend the separation of powers philosophy, and he doesn’t believe in the rule of law, but he has no choice at this point; he must #FreeNnamdiKanuNow!” On his verified Facebook profile, Sowore wrote.

Nigeria Launches COVID-19 Vaccination Campaign

0

The Nigerian government has launched a nationwide push to increase COVID-19 vaccination rates.

Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, who started the campaign in Abuja, stated that the program sought to reach at least 50% of the eligible target population by January 31, 2022.

“This follows the first and second vaccine campaigns, which targeted strategic leadership, frontline medical staff, and other eligible citizens.”

“As you may recall, the National Response to the COVID-19 Pandemic kicked off in early March 2020, shortly after the index case was identified. According to World Health Organization statistics, humanity enhanced the worldwide reaction to the development and deployment of vaccines to control a virus that had evolved into dangerous forms and caused over five million deaths.

“As part of its duty and commitment to the welfare and safety of Nigerians, the Federal Government made no attempt to get vaccines that were strategically deployed to reduce the virus’s impact on all aspects of our national life.” He stated

He noted that, in addition to vaccinations supplied to the country, significant resources were dedicated to assuring citizens’ access to effective and safe immunizations.

“Despite these unprecedented levels of commitment and achievement in the first and second phases of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, I must inform Nigerians that we are still far from achieving the national target of vaccinating 70% of our eligible target population by 2022 in order to move Nigeria closer to herd immunity.”

Because the NPHCDA has expanded vaccination sites, measures have been made to eliminate any identified barriers to access through this MASS VACCINATION CAMPAIGN initiative. These locations include I public health facilities, (ii) private health facilities, (iii) mobile vaccination stations, and (iv) mass vaccination sites such as schools, markets, retail malls, recreation centers, motor parks, worship houses, and other high-traffic public areas.”

He also informed Nigerians that the National Primary Health Care Development Agency has taken severe measures to ensure that the process was not compromised anywhere along the value chain.

“This immunization is free because the government recognizes its responsibility to protect our people’s health,” Mustapha remarked.

Similarly, the PSC Chairman reminded Federal Government Employees that the deadline for showing proof of vaccination or a PCR NEGATIVE TEST RESULT done 72 hours before being admitted into their offices remains December 1, 2021.

On the occasion of his 54th birthday, President Muhammadu Buhari congratulated Mai Mala Buni, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.

The president praised the party chieftain for providing exceptional and visionary leadership at the state and national levels, noting in particular the role played by the chairman, who is also the Governor of Yobe State, in successfully repositioning the party, as evidenced by increased membership, a healthy social atmosphere, and exemplary internal democracy, according to a statement released by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, on Friday.

The president praised the political leader for giving young and old Nigerians hope for a better future by embarking on a historic reconciliation and restitution drive that has strengthened the ruling party and positioned it for victories, beginning with successful ward, local, and state conventions and building up to a national convention.

Banditry has claimed the lives of 213 persons in President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state of Katsina in just four months. Furthermore, 676 persons were kidnapped from July to October 2021.

Dr Mustapha Inuwa, the Secretary to the Katsina State Government, addressed this pressing issue when discussing the implementation of Governor Aminu Bello Masari’s anti-banditry ordinances.

“Overall, statistics on banditry, kidnapping, and livestock rustling have showed a substantial reduction in the number of recorded cases from the beginning of the containment order to date,” Dr Inuwa told reporters on Thursday.

Buhari administration planning to Kill Nnamdi Kanu in DSS custody – IPOB alleges

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, accused the Nigerian government on Friday of plotting to assassinate its leader, Nnamdi Kanu, while he was in the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.

IPOB claimed that the Nigerian government intended to assassinate Kanu and declare a state of emergency in the Southeast.

The IPOB’s spokesman, Emma Powerful, claimed that the Nigerian government is concerned about the international attention Kanu’s arrest in Kenya has received.

Powerful claimed in a statement he signed that some top government officials in this administration are afraid of their fate at the International Criminal Court, ICC, in The Hague, and are thus plotting to kill Kanu.

“We, the global movement and family of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), ably led by our great liberator and prophet Nnamdi Kanu, wish to alert Biafrans and the entire humanity to the wicked and oppressive federal government of Nigeria’s plans to eliminate our leader, Nnamdi KANU, and declare a State of Emergency in the entire South-East and South-South regions of Nigeria,” he said. This plan is real, and everyone should take it very seriously.”

Following the cancellation of its sit-at-home order, IPOB stated that the Nigerian government is after Kanu because of the free and fair Anambra governorship election.

“Nigeria is further aggravated by the humiliating defeat it suffered in the recently concluded November 6 Anambra State governorship election, which the federal government believes was made possible by our wisdom in canceling our previously declared one-week sit-at-home order.” Our action was regarded as the masterstroke that shattered their plans to manipulate the outcome of the poll if people did not vote.

“Irked by our Leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s heroic role in raising the consciousness of not only Biafrans but other Indigenous nationalities about the fraud known as NIGERIA, the Fulani cabal who benefit from this fraud are hell-bent on eliminating him at any cost.” They want to punish him with death while ignoring the consequences. They intend to murder him while he is in DSS custody.”

Kanu is being held in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day in DSS custody, according to the separatist group, and is not allowed to change his clothes.

IPOB also claimed that its leader was denied access to his personal physicians as well as any medical investigation into the substance injected into him during his kidnapping in Kenya.

BREAKING: House of Reps Caucus taken action against Lai Mohammed over #EndSARS Killing

0

Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, has been called out by the House of Representatives Minority Caucus.

According to a statement released on Thursday by Minority Leader Ndudi Elumelu, the report by the Lagos Judicial panel set up to investigate the shooting of unarmed demonstrators at the Lekki toll gate was sufficient justification for Mohammed’s resignation or expulsion.

“After a thorough review of the report of the Lagos State EndSARS judicial panel, the Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives holds that the attempt by officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government to cover up the now confirmed bloody massacre of Nigerian youths by security forces at the Lekki Tollgate suggests a high-level state-backed conspiracy against Nigerians,” the statement read.

“The Lagos Panel’s confirmation that there was a massacre at the Lekki Tollgate during the 2020 EndSARS protests in Lagos, and that APC government-controlled security forces carted bodies away and cleaned up evidence, places a huge burden on the Federal Government, which had vehemently denied any killings.”

“The Minority caucus is therefore concerned as to what nefarious motive compelled the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who ought to know the truth, to rush to the media, ahead of the judicial panel, to insist that no killings occurred at Lekki Tollgate, despite witness testimony.”

“While the APC-led administration’s proclivity for lying to Nigerians on issues is legendary and well-known, our caucus is shocked that the administration can lie in a matter involving the gruesome killing of citizens, particularly our youths, and even attempt to provide official cover to the perpetrators.”

“As representatives of the people, the minority caucus believes that the assassination of our young people for having the audacity to demand justice, rule of law, and good governance in our country is the height of wickedness, and that the APC and its administration will be haunted until justice is served.”

“The Lagos panel’s report demonstrates that, no matter how hard lies and deceit strive to win, the truth always wins out in the end.” The blood of the innocents slaughtered at Lekki Tollgate cries out for justice, and their killers, as well as those who support or cover up the terrible crime, will not be spared.”

“As a result, the Minority Caucus urges on the APC-led administration to come clean about the killings as well as the cover-up efforts.” Also, as a result of the Lagos panel’s conclusions, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the Minister of Information and Culture, is anticipated to resign or be sacked by President Muhammadu Buhari.”

“Our caucus applauds the Lagos panel’s courage in seeking truth and justice, and asks any panels probing charges of violence in other states not to be discouraged, but to guarantee that the truth is not repressed.”

“While sympathizing with the victims of the Lekki Tollgate attack, particularly the families of those killed, the Minority Caucus urges Nigerians to remain calm at this critical time, as we will leave no stone unturned in using our legislative instruments to join forces with other well-meaning Nigerians to get justice for our people,” the Minority Caucus said.

Legendary defender, Bergomi, praises Osimhen ahead of Inter’s match against Napoli

Victor Osimhen has been lauded by legendary Italy and Inter Milan defender Giuseppe Bergomi ahead of the Nerazzurri’s match against Napoli at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza this weekend.

The Nigerian international will be anxious to add to his goal total after going goalless in his past three league appearances before the season’s final international break.

Bergomi emphasized Osimhen’s importance to Inter Milan’s chances of beating Napoli, naming the Nigerian striker as the player who has impressed him the most this season.

Osimhen, according to the 1982 World Cup winner, has the same influence as Romelu Lukaku did at Inter Milan before moving to Chelsea.

“I have to say, he is the striker who has most impressed me in this championship.”
After impressing for the Super Eagles in World Cup qualifying matches against Liberia and Cape Verde, Osimhen returned to training at Napoli yesterday.

During special operations conducted out to checkmate the violent actions of cultists in the state, the police in Ogun State said it detained about eight members of deadly cult groups.

The suspects were apprehended during brutal skirmishes that left four people dead in Abeokuta and Itori, according to Abimbola Oyeyemi, an Ogun police spokeswoman.
