Dangote sobs as he describes Sani’s death to Tinubu

0

Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man, became emotional on Friday as he told Senator Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), how his younger brother, Sani Dangote, died in a United States of America (USA) hospital last Sunday.

Sani died before him, his mother, and other members of his family, while on a life-supporting machine, he claimed.

“We have always known that where there is life, there is death,” Dangote stated. We, as Muslims, have no idea who will be next, and it may be today, tomorrow, or even right now.

“That is why it is important to be good so that when you arrive there, you can bid on whatever task you were given on Earth.”

“Your Excellency, (Abdullahi Umar Ganduje), you are our host because you are the governor of all of us, and we sincerely appreciate you spending nearly a week battling the masses, which is not easy.

“I appreciate all of your prayers and support.” This will truly assist us in reducing the agony that we are experiencing. It’s been a difficult period for us; especially for me, it’s been difficult; we’ve practically formed a kinship.

“Having a sibling like this (Sani) is extremely heartbreaking once you lose him. Because he died in front of my mother, me, and his entire family.

“The most agonizing thing is when you’re informed your brother is going to die in an hour and you stand there watching the machine shut down till it stops operating.” It was excruciating.”

Tinubu expressed his condolences to Dangote and advised the grieving to find comfort in God.

“We are here together to grieve our dear brother, not merely to commiserate or console you,” he stated. Sani isn’t just yours; he’s a Lagosian, a fantastic Nigerian, and a friend and brother to everyone here.

“I’m not a preacher, but I understand what it’s like to lose a close relative, especially a brother, unexpectedly.”

“We have come to join in prayers for you and the people of Kano state, for Nigeria, and for the entire family.” May God provide you with the strength to cope with your loss. Is a tragedy for all of us. Also, grant you what you did not donate to: a longer life, good health for you and your family, peace of mind, and the ability to accept the decree of God Almighty.

“He is the giver and the taker, and he has the power to do anything at any time.” We believe that with your faith and your tremendous capacity, you will overcome this and continue to accomplish good in his name, in your name, in the name of your family, and in the name of the entire people of the country.”

According to reports, Tinubu was greeted by a large gathering of APC loyalists and fans when he arrived in Kano.

Sani died last Sunday at a United States of America (USA) hospital after a cancer-related illness.

Last Tuesday, his body was taken to Kano and burial in the family cemetery.

Since then, Kano has welcomed high-profile politicians, businessmen, technocrats, and other powerful figures who have come to pay their respects to Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, his family, and the people of Kano state.

Tinubu and his entourage arrived at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) around 11:40 a.m. in a private plane.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, his Deputy, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, members of Ganduje’s cabinet, and APC leaders greeted him cordially at the airport.

A large crowd gathered at the airport, waving for Timubu’s huge convoy, a likely presidential candidate in 2023.

Tinubu traveled from the airport to the Koki areas of the city, where he condoled with Alhaji Aminu Dantata, a business entrepreneur and Dangote’s uncle.

The APC National Leader then proceeded to Aliko Dangote’s home on Dambazau Lane, off Lodge Road.

Tinubu, along by Governor Ganduje, paid visits to Government House and the Palace of Kano’s Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero.

“I believe he sees himself as a part of the highest earners wherever they are.” If you were to look over this squad of players you wouldn’t want to lose for a few weeks or games, he’d be one of the first names on your list of players you’d want to keep.

Ecuador’s President Guillermo Lasso has renewed a 30-day state of emergency in nine of the country’s 24 provinces in order to combat criminality linked to drug consumption and trafficking, according to his government.

The renewal will maintain military patrols on the streets in regions where homicide and other drug-related crimes are prevalent.

Last month, Lasso declared a state of emergency for 60 days. The country’s constitutional court shortened the sentence to 30 days and stated that the military can only assist the police when it is necessary.

“President Guillermo Lasso has extended the state of emergency imposed on October 18, 2021…for another 30 days in the provinces of El Oro, Guayas, Santa Elena, Manabi, Los Rios, Esmeraldas, Santo Domingo, Pichincha, and Sucumbios,” according to Lasso’s press office.

Lasso stated in a decree that the measures imposed during the first 30 days of the state of emergency were effective but did not eliminate the causes of rising crime.

According to the government’s edict, the homicide rate has dropped from 1.84 per 100,000 people in September to 0.63 thus far in November.

Over the previous month, security personnel have carried out over 230,000 operations, breaking up 76 gangs, confiscating 16 tonnes of drugs, and detaining 7,000 people, according to the Interior Ministry.

According to authorities, drug trafficking is responsible for more than 70% of violent deaths in Guayas province, which includes the city of Guayaquil.

Within the country’s jails, violence has also increased. Last week, at least 62 convicts perished in Guayaquil’s Penitenciaria del Litoral jail as a result of gang disputes, according to the administration.

In September, Lasso proclaimed a 60-day state of emergency over the jail system, which has been criticized for overcrowding, poor inmate housing conditions, and violence, freeing up government funds and allowing for limited military intervention.

Osinbajo mournes death of Din, describes him as a man of justice

In all of his dealings, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo hailed late Captain Joseph Din as a guy who stood for justice, fairness, and equity.

The vice-president stated this at the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) Headquarters in Jos, Plateau State, during Din’s funeral service.

Osinbajo recalled his warm memories of the late Captain, who he described as a very disciplined man who opposed and fought injustice in any form to the point where, despite not being a lawyer by training, he got versed with legal vocabulary.

This action, he claims, strengthened his conviction in democracy and the rule of law, which encouraged people to use civil channels to resolve issues rather than taking the law into their own hands.

He also described the deceased as hardworking, industrious, and giving, saying that he created bridges across the country and maintained lengthy friendships with people he had known for many years, including President Muhammadu Buhari.

Governor Simon Lalong praised the late elderstatesman as a man of integrity who toiled for Plateau State’s and Nigeria’s peace and political stability in his remarks.

He said Din accomplished a lot as Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Committee in Plateau State to assure the party’s win and oversee its performance in different domains, and that he will miss the important counsel and wisdom he freely shared.

COCIN’s President-elect, Rev Amos Mohzho, stated that death is dreadful news, but it can also be wonderful news for people who live a moral life and are certain of salvation.

According to him, the dead lived a prosperous and virtuous life, serving God and blessing others with his money and talents.

Mrs. Christiana Din, the deceased’s widow, said the death of her husband, with whom she had been married for 54 years, was very difficult, but that the testimony of his service to God and humanity had strengthened her.

In the aftermath of the gunfight, one more shooter was apprehended.

According to CSP Mike Abattam, the gunmen were apprehended on November 17, 2021, about 3 p.m., when a convoy of alleged mourners rushed into a police roadblock along the Owerri/Onitsha Road.

Banditry: Niger Govt bans sale of motorcycles

The government of Niger has outlawed the selling of motorcycles in the country.

The decision was made after constant security issues in several regions of the state, as well as requests for motorbikes as ransom by robbers and kidnappers, according to the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, who revealed it in a statement on Saturday.

“The State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has placed an immediate ban on motorbike sales throughout the State,” according to the statement.

According to Matane, the restriction applies to any motorbike (Bajaj, Boxer, Qiujeng, Honda ACE, Jingchen, etc.) with an engine capacity of 185 cubic centimetres or less (cc).

The SSG went on to say that the state government had implemented this additional precaution in order to reduce criminal activity in the state.

He expressed concern about the level of carnage and chaos caused by bandits and kidnappers in various sections of the state, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to clear the state of any security danger.

“Government is conscious of the problems the measure will cause the people,” the SSG says, “but the decision was made in the overall benefit of the state and appealed to motorbike dealers across the state to cooperate with the direction.”

Two Katsina State Police Command officers were slain by bandits in the Baure hamlet of the state’s Safana Local Government Area.

Sanusi Buba, the state Commissioner of Police, told journalists at the force headquarters in Katsina on Friday that the police officers were killed in a gunfight with the hooligans on Thursday.

According to him, the bandits killed ASP Yakubu Joshua of the 27 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Katsina and Sgt Zaharadeen Yuguda of the Safana Division in a crossfire at their enclave in the area (Baure).

According to Buba, the police squad commanded by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aminu Umar, Dutsinma Area Commander, was able to remove the hoodlums, killing two of them in the process and recovering one AK-47 weapon with 35 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition, among other goods.

Despite the event, he stated that police would stay “resolute and devoted in the ongoing war against stubborn bandits until they are apprehended and dealt with in accordance with the laws of the land.”

Meanwhile, the state chapter of the Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) has urged the state administration to end the state’s telecommunications blackout.

Residents in frontline local government districts would be able to report bandits’ attacks on their towns to security forces for assistance, according to the coalition’s Chairman, AbdurRahman Abdullahi, in a statement.

He stated that the government must analyze the success made during the Security Containment Order period and consider whether it should be reviewed and amended in order to achieve “better results.”

“There was no report of an attack throughout the state within the first two weeks of the Security Containment order,” he stated. However, banditry’s activities eventually reemerge, with more victims than before.

“This indicates that the criminals have devised strategies to circumvent these restrictions and continue their malicious activities.” The majority of people blame the suspension of telecommunications services for the increase in occurrences of banditry in the affected LGAs.

“Bandits can now enter a town and conduct their business for hours without the intervention of security agents or vigilantes because they can’t be called for help.”

US intends to strengthen Partnership with Nigeria, Africa

0

The US has reaffirmed its commitment to bolstering its engagement with Nigeria and other African nations.

In an address to the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja, Nigeria, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated the US considers Africa a “major geopolitical force” where it strives to provide infrastructure projects that benefit everyone.

Mr. Blinken stated that many infrastructure accords “burden countries with untenable debt,” and that the American approach to bridging infrastructure deficits would be long-term, transparent, and values-driven.

“Our commitment to inclusive growth is driving our Build Back Better World project, which aims to help reduce the global infrastructure gap,” said US Secretary of State John Kerry.

“We want to aid local communities by creating local jobs.” We support anti-corruption and transparency policies that allow leaders and citizens to assess whether deals negotiated on their behalf are truly beneficial. We also aim to safeguard both workers and the environment.

“Too often, international infrastructure projects are opaque and coercive; they saddle countries with unmanageable debt; they’re environmentally damaging; and they don’t always help the people who live there.” “We’re going to do things a little differently.”

Governments across Africa are weary of the strings that come with international engagement, according to the top US diplomat, who fears that in a world of stronger rivalry among major powers, countries may be compelled to pick.

Mr. Blinken stated that the United States would not impose any restrictions on African collaborations with other countries.

“We wish to strengthen your relationships with us.” We don’t want to force you to make a decision. We aim to provide you with options. We can provide genuine benefits to our people on the topics that matter most to them if we work together,” he remarked.

He claimed that African countries were frequently treated unfairly as junior partners or worse, rather than equal partners.

He stated that the US believes it is past time to stop treating Africa as a geopolitical issue and begin considering it as the important geopolitical player that it has become.

“We’re cognizant of decades of colonialism, slavery, and exploitation, which have left sad legacies that continue to this day.”

The US Secretary of State stated that Africa has the greatest renewable energy potential of any continent, and that Africa will shape the future.

Mr. Blinken also revealed that the US was collaborating on five areas of development, including global health, inclusive growth, climate change, democracy, and security.

He stated that the US has established a $3 billion climate response fund to fight climate-related challenges.

Mr Blinken said the US was working with Senegal and South Africa to empower the two countries to begin developing vaccines locally in order to restrict COVID-19 in Africa.

Mr. Blinken, who is in Nigeria for the second time this year, noted that the democratic issues that African countries face are not unique to the continent.
