The victim also told the cops that the suspect, who was heavily inebriated, then went to sleep.

Our source learned that the woman sneaked out and ran to the Sapele Police Station, where she reported the case, after noticing the suspect was fast asleep.

A detective patrol team allegedly broke into the house and arrested the suspect with one cut-to-size gun and one live cartridge.

While confirming the incident, DSP Bright Edafe, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said the investigation was still underway.

In another development, Edafe reported that police operatives arrested Ojo Amos, 38, a suspected Automated Teller Machine card thief.
“When searched, a total of 33 ATM cards and a cash sum of N50,000 were recovered from the suspect,” he said, adding that he confessed to stealing one of the cards from one Rufai Abdulahi at Zenith Bank, Kwale branch, and leaving immediately, adding that he later withdrew N250,000 from the victim’s account.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect waited behind his victims at ATM machines, targeting people he thought were uneducated, such as elderly women and children, and once he noticed they were having difficulty operating the ATM machine, he moved closer to them, pretending to be a bank employee trying to help them, and in the process, he swapped their ATM cards.”

Ari Ali, the state’s commissioner of police, urged residents to be cautious when using ATMs and to report suspicious activity in their neighborhoods to the police.

Buhari promises to stop importing wheat, urges wheat farming at home

Nigeria spends $2 billion a year on wheat imports, which President Buhari has promised to eliminate.

In Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, he urged Nigerian farmers to plant wheat at the Wheat Seed Multiplication farm.

Nigeria’s agriculture sector is expected to contribute 22.35 percent to GDP in the first quarter of 2021 and 23.78 percent in the second quarter, according to Buhari, who was represented by Governor Simon Lalong.

According to him, agriculture and farming are his government’s top priorities in order to boost the economy and ensure food and energy security for all citizens of the country.

According to Buhari, Nigeria is on its way to becoming self-sufficient in rice, maize and cassava production and that wheat cultivation will be completed in the not-too-distant future.

Despite the country’s ability to meet domestic and export needs, Nigeria has been spending large sums of money on wheat imports, which he says is unacceptable given the country’s resources.

Over the past few years, Nigeria has spent more than $2 billion importing wheat, which is a major contributor to the country’s massive foreign import bill. This is due to the fact that millers have had to import wheat by-products in order to meet the growing demand.

“Nigeria’s tropical climate makes wheat cultivation, like rice cultivation, possible. Due to the high heat tolerance of the seed used by farmers, wheat is currently grown in many northern states, especially during the dry season.

As a guest of President Emmanuel Macron at the Palais de l’Élysée, President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Paris, France, on Tuesday afternoon.

Femi Adesina, Nigeria’s presidential spokesman, issued a statement saying that President Muhammadu Buhari would also attend the three-day Paris Peace Forum (PPF), from November 11 to 13.

The Nigerian government has ordered the NNPC to collect coastal freight charges for petrol in naira.
Fear of kidnapping grips rural teachers of the Federal Credit Union (FCT).

During his official visit to France on Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari will meet with his French counterpart to discuss mutually beneficial issues, including strengthening economic ties, improving security cooperation, and working together on issues such as education, health, and COVID-19.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari will begin a three-day summit at the Grande Halle de La Villette in Paris on Thursday with world leaders, heads of international organizations, leaders of civil society and the private sector to discuss how to improve governance for a peaceful world.

At the event, he said the president would make a statement about Nigeria’s unique experience and the peace efforts that have been made so far.

In addition to President Macron, VP Kamala Harris of the US, and Bangladesh’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, he says other speakers will be in attendance.

To improve global peace, Adesina said this year the leaders would review 80 projects, such as reforming capitalism for greater impact on the global economy, addressing climate change, fake news and the challenge that it poses to journalism and cyber security.

For example, Ambassador Leonard highlighted the US Mission and Ogun State Government’s cooperation in law enforcement by supporting the creation of a Corrections Information Management System and a Court Attendance Endorsement Form.

Resident Complaints of Rot in the FCT as Members of Congress Call the Minister for an Appointment

Minister Mohammed Bello was called before the House of Representatives on Tuesday to explain the deteriorating infrastructure and increasing insecurity in the nation’s capital under his leadership.

Lawmakers’ rage occurred at a time when Abuja and its environs residents were accusing FCT Administration and the six area councils of doing little to improve or maintain the territory’s current infrastructure.

In the last few years, the garbage collection system has collapsed, the sewage systems have been blocked, and criminals have been terrorizing the residents of the city.

People living in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have complained that security and traffic lights aren’t working, transportation is unregulated, and illegal parks have sprung up in many areas.
Legislators are on edge, to say the least.

Deputy Minority Leader Toby Okechukwu introduced a motion of urgent public importance, but several members of the House of Representatives voiced their opposition to it during yesterday’s plenary session.

Obafemi Okechukwu raised “grave concerns” about the lack of and poor management of infrastructure in Abuja when he introduced the motion titled ‘Urgent need to arrest the fast deterioration of the Federal Capital Territory’ in the Nigerian parliament.

Concerns about the worsening waste management practices in the FCT, including a lack of and poor maintenance of waste treatment plants, were raised by him, despite claims by the Minister of State for the FCT, Ramatu Tijani Aliyu, that N8 billion was being set aside each year for waste management in the FCT, according to him.

As a result of the influx of bandits and other criminals, lack of modern security infrastructures in the city center and satellite towns, and non-maintenance of existing ones, including CCTV installations and as little as streetlights, Abuja has never been as unsafe as it is today. Rep. Okechukwu also noted that “The House notes with concern the poor city management bedevilling the FCT resulting in obvious decay.”

Aside from that, he expressed “serious concern” about the indiscriminate allocation of land in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) without the necessary infrastructure.

The recent kidnappings of University of Abuja lecturers and the mysterious disappearance of a Vanguard reporter, according to him, are proof of how dangerous the Federal Capital Territory has become.

There is a lack of infrastructure and citizens resorting to self-help in a territory that should be a model of rural development in Nigeria, according to Rep. Okechukwu.

There have been “far-reaching consequences” since Bello’s reappointment as FCT minister in 2019, he said, “including the non-appointment of Mandate Secretaries (equivalents of commissioners) to form the FCT Executive Council.”

That’s why the House of Representatives, he urged, should resolve to summon the minister to appear before the Committee of the Whole House to address the above-mentioned issues.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila made a ruling on the motion to call the FCT minister to appear in front of the House, which was approved by voice vote of the members of the house.

Minister’s appearance date was kept a secret.

‘The Minister will comply with the request’

Minister Abdullahi Sanni, the government’s Senior Special Adviser on Media, said that the House of Representatives or the National Assembly can summon the minister on any issue, which he will comply with, when asked about it

As he sees it, the National Assembly serves as the FCT Administration’s state of assembly, and the minister could be summoned at any time to appear before it.

However, he refused to elaborate further on the matter.

Filth and thugs abound.

According to a civil servant in Abuja, officials of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) were always on top of their jobs because they frequently cleaned up the city. However, things have changed since then.

Before now, AEPB even hired private refuse collectors to clean up the city, but the opposite is true,” she said.

Mr Jimoh Alhassan, a commercial driver, said the situation in the FCT was worse during the rainy season because drainage systems were not properly managed.

Whenever it rained, you could see major roads submerged because the drainage and gutters were clogged with trash. The situation was so bad, he said.

Garki resident Ayoni Olatunbosun noticed that the street light system had also gone out.

Because of a breakdown in the city’s street lighting system, she lamented the lack of visibility on major thoroughfares at night.

There are a lot of traffic lights that work for a short period of time and then stop working, and the result is that there are a lot of accidents at dangerous intersections,” she explained.

Some residents also complained about the Kwali Waterworks, which supplies water to Kwali metropolis residents for the past four years. They said that this situation had caused severe suffering to residents.

An individual who lives in Kwali claims that the Kwali Waterworks were built four years ago, but collapsed a year later.

“And since the waterworks haven’t worked in Kwali town for nearly three years now, most of the town’s residents go to the river to get their water,” he said.

Another Kwali resident, Joshua Bako, lamented the administration’s abandonment of the Kwaita-Yebu road.

Farmers, who usually transport their crops to Abaji or the Kwali market, find the Kwaita-Yebu a nightmare during the rainy season, he said.

If you visit some of these villages during the dry season, finding drinking water is always a challenge,” a Bwari resident tells CNN. Even digging boreholes in some of these villages, I haven’t seen the government do anything to address these issues.

Security was a major concern for many FCT residents, who felt the administration had done little to stop bandits from operating in and around the territory.

Bandits fleeing conflict in the northern states are reportedly setting up camp in the forests around rural communities in the territory.

People in Zukpatu, Gadoro, Achimbi, Pesu, Duda and Pani in the Kuje area of the FCT told Daily Trust that the fleeing bandits had set up camps in the area.

Villagers who spoke to one of our reporters said that the bandits had warned them not to reveal their hideouts to the authorities.

In the Gaube neighborhood, a man who identified himself only as Ibrahim called for immediate assistance.

More than 30 people were kidnapped between September and the beginning of this month, according to the Daily Trust.

According to one of the rescued kidnapped victims in the Pegi axis of Abuja, “Government needs to do something quickly before the situation gets out of hand because of what I saw….” It occurred to me how these armed criminals were able to get into such remote locations.”

Security personnel were urged to step up their game by him. When he spoke, he said, “If we don’t get it right in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which is the symbol of our nationhood, no place in Nigeria will be safe.”

EPL: Ronaldo is minus one for Man Utd he should be benched – Ikpeba

0

Former Nigeria international Victor Ikpeba has described Cristiano Ronaldo as a “minus one” for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United team.

The former Nigerian striker went on to advise Solskjaer to sit the Portuguese superstar on the bench.

Manchester United’s last game before the international break was a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, and Ikpeba questioned Solskjaer’s tactics.

Despite scoring 9 goals in 12 appearances this season, the former African Footballer of the Year questioned Ronaldo’s contribution to the team.

Ikpeba blamed United’s attackers for the loss to Man City, claiming they failed to play a high-pressing game while City defended as a unit.

The former Monaco winger stated that Ronaldo has an excellent goal-scoring pedigree but contributes little or nothing to the Red Devils team.

“Great managers come from the ability to get the best out of your players, but if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer isn’t getting the best out of these players, I feel some of the Manchester United players up front are very lazy,” Ikpeba said on SuperSport’s Monday Night Football.

“I want us to look at the game against Manchester City and see how Jesus, Kevin De Bruyne, and Bernardo Silva pressed.” They did not allow the defenders to begin the build-up from the defense; why can’t Manchester United players do the same?

“We saw what Crystal Palace did to Manchester City; they defended very well.”

“I always say Ronaldo is a minus one for Manchester United.” He can score beautiful goals, but he can’t defend.

“When you look at the opposition, they defend as a team, they attack as a team, and they know when to play the pressing game.”

“Solskjaer must be ruthless.” “I’d like to suggest that when Ronaldo is not performing well, he be benched.”

Saultan lauds NYSC Board for upholding scheme’s potentialities, national integration

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has lauded the National Youth Service Corp’s (NYSC) governing board and management for sustaining the scheme’s potentialities, national integration and unity.

Abubakar made the call when he received the NYSC board members in his palace on Monday in Sokoto.

He described the scheme as catalyst for the nation’s integration, development and unity among religion and ethnic groups in the country.

The Sultan stressed that the agitation for the scrapping of the NYSC scheme was not in the interest of Nigeria’s unity.

He explained that the NYSC scheme was established to foster the nation’s unity and strengthen ties among Nigerians.

According to him, the NYSC scheme is the most needed programme in view of the present situation when Nigeria is almost divided along different lines.

While welcoming the board members to Sokoto state, he said that the state was the most peaceful in Nigeria.

He implored leaders to speak up when things were going wrong, saying injustice must also be addressed to calm tension and agitations.

Earlier, Amb. Fatima Balla-Abubakar, the Chairman of the NYSC National Governing Board, congratulated the Sultan on his 15th anniversary on the throne and wished him continuous Allah’s guidance and protection.

Balla-Abubakar noted that the NYSC had the potential to drive Nigeria’s economic recovery process as the scheme could empower the youths endowed with various talents to achieve success.

She, therefore, called for support towards the success of the laudable initiative.

The Board Chairman said that in spite of the challenges the scheme had faced since its establishment it had lived up to expectations by being creative and innovative.

She said that the scheme had metamorphosed into other roles such as providing skills acquisition to its members through the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme.

”One major challenge of the scheme, however, is the increasing population of corps members amidst dwindling resources to comfortably cater for these participants,” she said. (NAN)
