Wike Hails Tinubu as First Nigerian President to Tour FCT Satellite Towns

0

The first Nigerian president to visit satellite communities outside of Abuja is President Bola Tinubu, according to Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike on Wednesday.

According to Wike, Tinubu has bonded with the rural residents of the FCT since taking office.

In the Bwari Area Council, he revealed this when the dualized and upgraded Ushafa to War College/Army Check Point Roads and other ancillary roads were put into service.

On behalf of Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima ordered the project.

This is the first time a sitting president has visited a satellite town to show support and to let the residents know that, just as we are doing in the metropolis, we would also take care of them, he said.

You have come here today, and on Friday you will be at Gwagwalada. Mr. President was in Kwali himself.

The Kabusa-Ketti road was commissioned last Friday, and the speaker spoke on behalf of the president. The fact that this has never occurred demonstrates your affection for the people of the satellite town.

The president has been complimented by the minister for completing the projects he promised to commission in rural areas.

He went on to say: “When we wanted to get started, I met with the president to inform him that it would be more appreciated if you could schedule a visit to the rural region. Mr. president indicated that we would not only come once, but also 1, 2, and 3, and you have fulfilled it.

“You have exceeded it, and by Friday, it will be the fourth time. I want to sincerely thank you for that.”

IMF Urges Nigeria to Adjust 2025 Budget Over Falling Oil Prices*

0

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has called on the Nigerian government to revise its proposed ₦54.99 trillion 2025 budget to reflect declining global oil prices and increasing economic risks.

In its latest Article IV Consultation, the IMF acknowledged Nigeria’s recent macroeconomic reforms — including the removal of fuel subsidies, the halt of central bank financing of fiscal deficits, and the liberalization of the foreign exchange (FX) market. However, it warned that more work is needed to sustain progress and protect the economy from external shocks.

The Fund stressed that implementing the budget without adjusting for lower oil revenues could expand the fiscal deficit from 4.1% to 4.7%, worsening Nigeria’s debt burden.

Despite a 3.4% GDP growth in 2024, the IMF noted that growth remains too low on a per capita basis, with poverty and food insecurity rising. It forecasts a similar 3.4% growth for 2025, driven by improved oil production, the commissioning of a new refinery, and a strong services sector.

The IMF urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to maintain its tight monetary policy until inflation — currently at 22.97% year-on-year in May 2025 — shows consistent decline. It also stressed the importance of keeping real interest rates positive to support exchange rate stability and investor confidence.

On FX management, the Fund praised recent reforms but emphasized the need for a robust, transparent intervention framework to manage volatility and protect against short-term portfolio risks.

The IMF also welcomed Nigeria’s tax policy reforms and advised the government to improve budget execution, public spending quality, and the delivery of targeted cash transfers to vulnerable citizens.

Additionally, it called for stronger regulation of mortgage lending, consumer finance, fintech, and crypto assets, and urged swift completion of reforms to exit the FATF grey list.

While Nigeria has made strides in stabilizing its economy, the IMF concluded that deeper investment in infrastructure, agriculture, education, and security is critical to achieving inclusive growth and long-term development.

The governor stated this at an interactive session with Abia State Global Economic Council members in Umuahia.

In response to the claim of a crisis in the Labour Party, the Abia State Governor stated that the party had a problem and fought through the Supreme Court to reclaim it.
He went on: “I am still a member of the Labour Party, I am not looking for where to decamp to.”

When asked about the coalition, Otti said, “Have you seen my name?” Have you seen me at any coalition meetings? We are preoccupied with the work that the Abia people have assigned us. We are not attending any coalition gathering. Nobody invited me, and I am content where I am. You don’t run away from a problem and claim to have addressed it.”

ADC Coalition Unveiling Thwarted by Venue Cancellation

The African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) intended debut as a unifying political platform for Nigeria’s opposition has been derailed.
On Wednesday, hours before the show began, the location where the event was scheduled to take place abruptly canceled a fully paid reservation.
However, the hotel would no longer host the event because of an unidentified “internal compliance matter,” the organizers were notified Wednesday morning.

A screenshot of the hotel’s message was posted on the Instagram page of Dele Momodu, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The text said, “Dear Respected Customer, Once again, we are grateful that you choose the Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments.

Unfortunately, we must notify you that we will not be able to host your planned event owing to an internal compliance issue that we recently discovered.

“We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and acknowledge that the event is less than 24 hours away.”

Opposition leaders have reacted sharply to the abrupt cancelation, with Momodu accusing political meddling.

“The coalition’s reservation of a venue for the unveiling of the adopted party, ADC, was abruptly and unilaterally canceled by the hotel management because of what insiders described as fear of retaliation from APC operatives, demonstrating the ongoing intimidation of opposition by a nervous government.”

The opposition forces are ready to fiercely oppose the ruling party, and Momodu said that this would not stop them.

All Four Q‑Final Fixtures Confirmed in 2025 Club World Cup

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 is already complete, and the quarterfinal schedule has been formally announced.
Across the United States, the last round of 16 matches for the Club World Cup were played on Saturday night and this morning.

In Saturday night’s match, European football powerhouse Real Madrid eliminated rival Juventus with a single goal.

Real Madrid’s latest acquisition, Trent Alexander-Arnold, helped Gonzalo García in the 54th minute to seal the narrow 1-0 victory at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami in front of 62,149 spectators.

In contrast, Mexican team Monterrey lost to German Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund in a lopsided first half earlier today.

In the first half, Dortmund won thanks to goals from 29-year-old Guinea international Serhou Guirassay, who opened the scoring in the 14th minute and extended the lead in the 24th.

However, the Mexican team rallied in the second half, scoring a goal through Germán Berterame’s boots in the 48th minute. Sadly, Dortmund won 2-1, so that wasn’t enough to stop them.

After the aforementioned games, on Saturday, July 5 at 9 p.m., Real Madrid will play Borussia Dortmund in the quarterfinals.

At 8 p.m. on Friday, July 4, Al-Hilal, who shocked Premier League powerhouse Manchester City 4-3 on Tuesday, will take on Fluminense, a Brazilian powerhouse, in the quarterfinals.

The current UEFA Champions League champions, Paris Saint-Germain, will play Bayern Munich at 5 p.m. on Saturday, while Chelsea will play Brazilian team Palmeiras at 2:00.

When Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund play, Jude Bellingham will not have the chance to play against his younger brother, Jobe Bellingham.

According to reports, Mark resigned, citing the PDP’s leadership turmoil as the primary cause in a statement he signed on June 27.

“I extend my warmest greetings to you and the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otukpo Ward 1, and throughout Benue State and Nigeria,” the statement said. This letter serves as official notice that I have decided to leave the party with immediate effect. As you may remember, my commitment to the PDP’s principles has remained strong and unwavering over the years. Following our defeat in the 2015 presidential election, almost all party members left, but I vowed to stay the last guy standing.

Without coming across as immodest, I have worked tirelessly to rebuild, unite, and reposition the party. This has helped the PDP regain its national prominence and become the party of choice for many Nigerians.

“But recent events characterized by widening gaps, an ongoing leadership crisis, and intractable disagreements have diminished the party to a shadow of its former self, making it the target of public insults.”

Following extensive discussions with my loved ones, relatives, and political connections, I have decided to join Nigeria’s National Coalition of Political Opposition Movement in an attempt to save our country and protect our hard-won democracy.

Obi Unveils One-Term Agenda Before Opposition Bloc – Obidient Chief

0

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential contender, has formally proposed to the new opposition alliance a single four-year term.
The Obidient Movement Worldwide’s National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, reportedly verified the development on Tuesday.
During a ceremony in Pantami, Gombe State, Tanko revealed that Obi had received the traditional title of “Sarki Maskan” (War Hero) and a letter of commendation from Mai Martaba Abdullahi, the District Head of Pantami, for his humanitarian efforts in the community.

Additionally, Obi’s former media assistant was honored with the title of “Dan Maje Babba Pantanmi.”
During the event, Tanko told Punch that the high-level coalition, which consists of notable opposition leaders like former Senate President David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, had been presented with Obi’s proposal for a four-year term.

We’ve shown it to the coalition,” Tanko stated. They can use it to help them decide what to do. But we are sure it can succeed.

“This statement is based on ethics, and Peter Obi is the epitome of that. Nigeria is currently in need of honest leaders.

He stated that Obi thinks a single four-year tenure will be enough to begin Nigeria’s change and revitalize the country’s faltering economy.

Despite the fact that the constitution does not specify a single term, Obi has made it obvious that he intends to serve only one term, Tanko stated. He thinks he can complete his mission in four years plus.

According to Tanko, resolving Nigeria’s electrical crisis on its own under Obi’s direction will “solve a multitude of problems,” such as increasing domestic output and reducing reliance on outside help.

He stated, “He is promising that Nigeria will once again become an exporting nation under his leadership.” Aircraft will no longer abandon our airports.

Obi’s Reasons for Taking Pantami’s Title After Years of Refusing Honors
Regarding Obi’s choice to accept the Sarki Maskan title, Tanko added that the honor has special meaning because it comes from a Muslim community in the north.

According to Tanko, Obi is not a man who pursues titles. Yet this one is unique. It originates from an Igbo guy who was honored for his impact and charity by a northern town.

In the North, where he was less popular in the 2023 elections, it says a lot about Obi’s increasing popularity across the country.

The Obidient coordinator gave examples of Obi’s popularity at the grassroots level, pointing to his community projects in Northern Nigeria, such as the installation of boreholes and school interventions in Almajiri.

“Today in Pantami, there is pure water for both humans and animals. According to the locals, “Go get me water from Peter Obi’s borehole.” He answered, “That indicates that something has changed.”

“Obi’s personal donations to underprivileged schools and encouragement of entrepreneurship among northern youths have further endeared him to communities once considered politically distant,” Tanko said.

Tanko concluded that the North might be growing receptive to Obi’s message in anticipation of the 2027 elections, characterizing Pantami’s recognition as a sign of shifting political alignments.
