Kano: Kwankwasiyya Loses Long-Serving Member to Gandujiyya

0

On Thursday in Kano, the Kwankwasiyya Political Movement suffered yet another setback when it lost one of its staunch chieftains to the Gandujiyya Political Ideologue.

The decampee, Alhaji Baba, a Kano Municipal lawmaker, disembarked from the Kwankwasiyya Political train when, during the formal launch/flag-off of the agricultural intervention programme, he knelt before Ganduje and removed the symbolic Kwankwasiyya red cap.

Alhaji Baba’s red cap was replaced with a green cap after symbolic “political cleansing” at the event, where Ganduje empowered about 16, 010 farmers.

Alhaji Baba, the current chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, was a former chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government Area during Senator Ibrahim Shekarau’s (Sardaunan Kano) tenure as Governor of the state.
The Kwankwasiyya, a powerful political platform fighting for the soul of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano, is led by its Supreme Commander and Kano state’s immediate past governor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

While the Gandujiyya, Kano’s face of the All Progressive Congress (APC), is led by the sitting Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was a founding member of the Kwankwasiyya.

Ganduje was Kwankwaso’s deputy for two terms when he was governor.
The duo split up politically in 2015, allegedly due to Kwankwaso’s insistence on controlling Ganduje’s government even after he left office as Kano state’s first citizen.
However, Ganduje has taken control of Kano’s political landscape since then, even after winning a second term in 2019 despite strong cum confrontational opposition from the Kwankwasiyya Movement.

Group applauds military for putting pressure on insurgents, bandits

The Nigeria Must Survive Initiative, a peace advocacy group, has praised the Armed Forces of Nigeria for the pressure it is currently exerting on insurgent groups, bandits, and criminals in the country.

According to the group, the recent and frequent change of leadership in Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Boko Haram, as well as the killing of their members in an ambush in Pulka general area and four others at Ngwom community in Mafa Local Government Area, Borno state on Tuesday evening, demonstrate that the AFN has maintained relentless pressure on the insurgents.

The peace group said in a press release signed by Secretary Demola Akanbi on Thursday that the repentance of 17,000 insurgents confirmed by the Theatre Commander of the Joint Task Force, ‘Operations Hadin Kai,’ Maj.-Gen. Christopher Musa, is a welcome development.

The group urged the AFN to keep up the pressure and bring those threatening the country’s peace to their knees.

“We want to thank the Nigerian Armed Forces, led by Gen. LEO Irabor, for maintaining pressure on those who oppose Nigeria’s peace.” The recent results in the war against insurgency demonstrate that the tactics implemented by the current leadership are effective.

The role of synergy, which is currently the anchor of our military’s successes in the onslaught against terrorists, cannot be overstated in the “Nigeria Must Survive Initiative.”

The group urged the terrorists to lay down their weapons in order for peace to reign.

“We appeal to terrorists, bandits, and other criminals to lay down their arms and allow the country to progress socioeconomically.”

Buhari govt mulls paying Nigerians transport allowance after fuel subsidy removal in 2022

The Administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has promised to pay Nigerians transport allowance after fuel subsidy removal in 2022.

Zainab Ahmed, minister of finance, disclosed this while speaking in Channels Tv on Thursday.

According to her, deregulation of the petroleum industry will take effect from July 2022 and to ease the pain and burden, the federal government was considering payment of transport allowance.

“It is important that we exit this subsidy. It is costing us a significant amount of resources that we could have applied for education, health and critical infrastructure. It is a major waste and a major drain on the economy.

“Aside our plans to deploy Compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles as an alternative to petrol-aided vehicles, we are also considering the payment of transport allowance to Nigerians for six or 12 months to cushion the effect of fuel subsidy removal,” she added.

Ahmed also said that the transport allowance will be transferred directly to the bank accounts of the right people through the help of a bank verification number and national identity number.

“What we are doing now is — we’ve been negotiating with labour. We are planning and deploying CNG — which is an alternative to mass transit to PMS,” she added.

“But we are also looking at providing some palliatives for a large number of the population in terms of maybe a transport subsidy for a short period like six months or if it is long, maybe nine months or maximum 12 months.

“Transport subsidy that would be given directly to individuals. What is constraining us is the issue of registration. The national identity registration process is ongoing and we want to make sure that this subsidy goes into the hands of the right people.

“That we can make transfers to people using their BVNs, account number and national identity number, and we know that it has gone to the right people.

“That is part of the things we are negotiating and working on. We are also engaging with the World Bank in designing a programme that will help us to provide succour for at least a minimum of 6 months, maximum of 12 months to enable us to make that transition.”

Xavi is interested in Raheem Sterling, Despite Man City’s transfer stance

Barcelona’s interest in signing Raheem Sterling has not been dampened by the highly improbable prospect of a deal in the near future.

After a disastrous few years in which club legend Lionel Messi left the club against his will on a free transfer in the summer, Barcelona are looking to rebuild under Joan Laporta’s presidency and have identified the Manchester City forward as a target; Laporta has improved relations with the Blues and has an excellent relationship with Pep Guardiola, whom he met earlier this week around the public announcement of Xavi as the new head coach at the Nou Camp.

During his visit, City manager Pep Guardiola avoided media questions about a potential Sterling move to Barcelona, amid hopes in the Catalan capital that the player could be enticed as early as January, either on a permanent or temporary basis.
Guardiola keeps a small squad at the Etihad, relying on fierce competition from those who aren’t regular starters to raise standards. Sterling has shown enough for the club that many believe his form can return, and England manager Gareth Southgate is still willing to select him for the national team.

Despite the fact that he is nearing the end of his contract in Manchester and has stated publicly that he would consider a move elsewhere if he does not get more game time, the player is still focused on regaining his place in the City team and signing a new contract to further enhance his status at the club.

He also stated that troops rescued 97 kidnapped civilians and recovered 122 weapons.

According to the Director, troops from Operation Delta Safe have discovered and demobilized over 20 illegal refining sites, 62 ovens, 12 cooking pots/boilers, 8 cooling systems, 19 reservoirs, 18 large dugout pits, and 88 storage tanks while conducting land, maritime, and air operations to disrupt the activities of economic saboteurs and other criminal elements in the South-South zone.

“To date, troops have discovered and immobilized a total of 20 illegal refining sites,” he said. In addition, 8 criminal elements, including 2 impostors, were apprehended, and 7 arms and 3 rounds of ammunition, among other items, were recovered during the Zone operations. During the same time period, troops rescued 13 kidnapped civilians. As a result, during the operations, a total of one million, two hundred and three thousand, two hundred and fifty litres (1,252,250ltrs) of illegally refined AGO and one million, one hundred and thirty-eight thousand, three hundred and forty litres (1,140,340ltrs) of stolen crude were recovered.

“Furthermore, troops neutralized three armed robbers and rescued two kidnapped civilians during the period, while five criminal elements associated with pipeline vandalism, piracy, illegal oil bunkering, and armed robbery were arrested.” He stated that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and other security agencies’ kinetic and non-kinetic efforts in the fight against criminalities across the country are yielding significant results, and that the military will not relent or rest on its oars in the fight against criminalities in all parts of the country.

Direct primary will eliminate god-fatherism – Senator

0

Despite growing concern among governors and members of the National Assembly about the direct primary, Senator Kabir Gaya, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has praised the agency for supporting the idea as the best way to deepen the nation’s democracy.

Gaya, speaking on a television program following the passage of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, which requires political parties to select their candidates for elective positions through direct primaries, said the option will eliminate god-fatherism and allow the people to choose their leaders without undue influence.

The senator denied any running battle with the governors over the bill, claiming that the direct primary is the best option for Nigerians. The lawmaker also expressed confidence that President Muhammadu Buhari, who believes in giving people power, will sign the bill into law without delay.

“The essence of amending any act was to improve the act,” he explained. The amendment was created to address some of the issues that are commonly associated with our elections.

“In fact, the direct primary is essentially intended to give power to the grassroots, which is something the president prefers as a democrat who believes that power should be with the people.”

However, indications are that governors from both parties are opposed to the idea. This was brought to light following a meeting of governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday under the auspices of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF), during which the states’ chief executives vehemently rejected the National Assembly’s resolution.

They also stated that they would meet with the leaders of both chambers of parliament to persuade them to review the resolution before submitting the Electoral Act 2010 (Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2021 to President Muhammadu Buhari for presidential assent.

The Conference Committee on the Electoral Act 2010 Repeal and Re-enactment Bill has yet to submit its report to the National Assembly leadership.

Last month, the Senate joined its counterpart in the House of Representatives in enacting Section 87 on mandatory direct primaries for all political parties.

“A political party seeking to nominate candidates for elections under this Bill shall hold direct primaries for aspirants to all elective positions, which shall be monitored by the Commission,” states Section 87(1) of the bill.

The APC 2014 Constitution (as amended) provides for direct, indirect, and consensus options for the selection of party candidates for general elections.

While a direct primary involves all party members participating in the selection of party candidates, an indirect primary involves the use of delegates, who are usually leaders and members of the executive from ward, local government, to state levels, to elect the party’s candidate(s) at a congress or convention.

Kebbi State Governor and PGF Chairman, Atiku Abubakar Bagudu, told reporters after the meeting at the Kebbi State Governors Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, that the governors expressed strong reservations about the National Assembly’s resolution on direct primaries.

Bagudu argued that political parties should be allowed to choose the best option for them. He also stated that the resolution violated the spirit of President Buhari’s Executive Order, which forbids large gatherings in the aftermath of the global pandemic, Coronavirus.

He claimed that direct primaries were too time-consuming and unwieldy, and that they would strain INEC’s limited resources, which are statutorily mandated to oversee primaries held by various political parties.

Project Manager Alleges: Buhari Minister, Timipre Sylva’s Oil Company, Seven Oceans Owe Me N48million, Threatened Me

0

Aproject management practitioner, Alexander Chijioke Orji has alleged that the management of Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited, affiliated with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has refused to pay his entitlements to the tune of $116, 000 (N47,732,500.06)

Orji, who filed a petition at the National Assembly, said he was employed by the company in October 2019 after which certain modifications were made to the salary structure and other benefits.

Timipre Sylva
According to him, he, alongside one of the directors of the company, Leo Abulokwe, had successfully clinched a deal after negotiating with facilitators of the Adax Manpower bid.

He said he further sent emails to the directors to follow up on the bid but there was no response, adding that he received threats from Abulokwe and some other directors to get him detained and make sure he is ‘silenced forever’.

This, according to him, brought about his resignation from the company though it was never acknowledged till date as he claimed payments and other entitlements have yet to be made.

He wrote, “My names are (sic) Alexander Chijioke Orji, a resident of above-stated address. A project management professional with over 15 years of practice, Chartered Management Accountant, Marketing.
Logistics and Cost management.

“My formal engagement with Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited began with an inaugural facial meeting and outing on the 12 of August 2019 after a series of phone conversations on my capabilities, these meetings were between directors of Seven Oceans and Gas Limited, Mr. Hope Nelson and Mr. Samuel Alabi, the Managing Director of Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited.

“We proceeded to National Petroleum Investment Management Services ‘NAPIMS’ on Bourdillion, Ikoyi, Lagos to meet some staffs. After a resourceful outing, we proceeded to have over 3 hours meeting at Colonades Hotel, Ikoyi on my formal engagement and deliverables.

“As further test to my capabilities, Mr. Sam Alabi instructed me to get some materials for his reconfirmation and further discussion with the CEO of Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited.

“Upon receipt of same, I moved in a resourceful person and immediately a discussion ensued and thereafter he was engaged to provide further materials to aid these journeys.

“And as part of the provision made a commitment of materials available even before an advance of 200k was paid to
him. After waiting for several weeks without any feedback against the assurance of getting offers in addition to others as discussed within days.

“I kept a reminder to Mr. Nelson who persuaded that I remain calm and allow the expected feedback returns. The pressure however stepped up on my side from the engaged personnel as no further directives came regarding what was due and next line of action. I had to deal with the matter despite hurting my relationship with said individual.

“It’s on record that my last visit along with Mr. Nelson in October 2019 to Napims, that said individual refused even a gift offer as mentioned in an un-consented conference call where he outrightly rejected same stating not to have any further dealings despite my plea.

“I had to still take care of the matter afterwards knowing the journey that lies ahead and need to cultivate these foot soldiers.

“Furthermore, additional request came from Mr. Nelson my line manager that I make efforts to search immediate engagements within the International oil companies IOCs. I swung into action and in few days later reported to him about some openings within IOCs and availability of men within the system to grant us audiences.

“Despite the assurances, Mr. Nelson did not meet up and no cogent reasons given therein. A few days later again another brief, on getting Seven Oceans Oil Gas Limited registered as commercial platform of one the prominent IOCs.

“Again, I moved and got commitment from men to advance the course. Directions and guidelines were sent and I was told to wait till this day despite my words and bound to the said persons.

“With the summation given above it was evident even to the blind that I was focused on getting results based on the mandate given that I was putting my best foot forward in getting results and risking everything including putting my reputation built on trust to question among these individuals.

“I continued to show more willingness to achieve results each day by moving on despite continued reviews implementation without any prior discussions or negotiations. But of course, I was to prove my worth before I could be handed a formal letter of engagement.

“On 14 of October 2019 I received a formal engagement letter from Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited and I responded on 17th of October 2019 with stating 10 conditions upon which I accept the offers and it was agreed with exception of increase in percentage due on prospecting.

“I would like to state that from August-December 2019 I never paid any formal visit to the company’s head offices, most engagements were by emails, texts, WhatsApp and facial meetings with directors of the company in Lagos.

”I met with Mr. Leo Abulokwe on October 2019 on instruction of Mr. Sam Alabi to negotiate and meet facilitators for the Adax Manpower bid. It would be recalled that I and Mr. Leo met with principal officers handling the bid at Four-points Sheraton Hotel Lekki on Monday, 4th November and proceeded to Napims head office here in Lagos for additional meetings on Tuesday. We however were able to meet later on same Tuesday evening to conclude on and hand over six thousand dollars less of five thousand as originally offered by Mr. Leo as PR for prospecting to balance five thousand dollars upon delivery to next stage of the same bid process.

“Furthermore, from 12 November 2019, I wrote countless emails, text messages and WhatsApp to directors of Seven Oceans Oil and Limited intimating them on the successful favourable outcome of the bid. No response came, my messages were not been answered. Despite same, I kept writing and made efforts to engage formally but with fears considering the various threats issued by Mr. Leo Abulokwe that I had reported him to Mr. Sam Alabi for failing to respond to my messages to
act on pending matters with regards to similar prospecting.

“This whole drama continued until 15 of January 2020 when Mr. Leo Abulokwe mentioned that Mr. Sam Alabi had actually on the 25th of December 2019 confirmed from the Managing Director of Adax during a Gala function organized and hosted by Minister of State for Petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva, that Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited had successfully but none of the directors came forward.

“Following the turn of events and continued threats which I had mentioned on emails I further sent to some other directors and company official emails subsequently and no responses. I decided to resign on 28 day of March 2020 after receiving a major threat from Mr. Leo Abulokwe and some other directors to use their influence and ties with the minister of state for petroleum, Chief Timipre Sylva, have me arrested, detained and make sure I’m silenced forever.

”After waiting for 3 months without any response, I sought the service of a lawyer to approach Seven Oceans Oil and Gas for my outstanding and entitlements. I would like to reiterate that till date no acceptance of my resignation has come from said company. In addition, we received a letter of Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited lawyer threatening to take legal action 7 days from receipt of letter dated 22 July 2020.

“In addition, my legal team had written to the Minister of State for Petroleum and Managing Director, Nigeria Content Development and Monitoring Board on August 28, 2020, respectively raising complaints against Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited and how unfairly they have treated me and calling for intervention to resolving same matter.

“The last and only response was a WhatsApp chat message from a senior executive of Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited, Mr. Udoh Esio Okwong with Munched shot from Mr. Simbi Kesiye Webber, Managing Director of NCMDB asking him if he was aware, of the letter written by my lawyers and received on 14th September 2020.

”Shockingly as boasted by Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited directors that nothing would be heard of my letter because of the alliances with the
director. Till date I make bold to state that no response has come from NCDMB after 11 months of our complaints.

“In addition, I have made various attempts to reach out the Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited directors and management to plead my case and get my outstanding payments. I have contacted several individuals close to the said persons to no avail.

”I don’t feel safe with the next move in
approaching you to wade into these matters as it is now very clear that individuals behind Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited are very powerful and can end my life and family at any slightest
opportunity.

“I have attached some documents for your perusal and guide and available to send forth over 72 emailed and hard copies of letters, 41 text messages and 89 WhatsApp messages exchange with Seven Ocean Oil and Gas Limited regarding my engagement, directives, outstanding’s etc.

“I remain eternally grateful for the privilege and look forward to getting an opportunity to speak further on same.”

All efforts to reach the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, via calls and text messages proved futile as he did not answer nor reply to a text message sent to him.

Also, attempts to reach the chairman of the Seven Oceans Oil and Gas Limited, Samuel Alabi via text messages or on the phone were not successful.
