Buhari snubs Atiku as he turns 75 today

0

Atiku Abubakar, Nigeria’s former vice president, turns 75 today, but President Muhammadu Buhari hasn’t sent him a greeting.

It was unclear whether the presidential omission was accidental or intentional.

Despite their political differences, Atiku attended Buhari’s first son, Yusuf’s, wedding in Bichi, Kano in August.

Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Buhari’s chief of staff, turned 77 years old on Wednesday, and was the last person Buhari honored.

Buhari’s aides may still issue a statement before the end of the day, as a 75th birthday is a significant milestone for anyone.

However, there are concerns about political correctness because Buhari sends birthday greetings ahead of time.

Atiku was born in Jada, Adamawa state 25 November 1946.

He is now a big businessman involved in multi-businesses, including the media.

Atiku studied for a short time at the Nigeria Police College in Kaduna after finishing primary and secondary school in Adamawa. When he couldn’t present an O-Level Mathematics result, he dropped out of college.

He then worked for a short time as a Tax Officer in the Regional Ministry of Finance before enrolling in Kano’s School of Hygiene in 1966.

In 1967, he received his Diploma. On a scholarship from the regional government, he enrolled in the Ahmadu Bello University Institute of Administration for a Law Diploma that same year.

He worked for the Nigeria Customs Service after graduating in 1969, and during the Nigerian Civil War.

In 1989, he left Customs and began a full-time career in politics and business.

Atiku was elected Governor of Adamawa State in 1999, but he was chosen as President Olusegun Obasanjo’s running mate and became Vice President in 2000.

Obasanjo, on the other hand, was a thorn in his side.

Atiku had previously run for President of Nigeria in 1993, but lost. However, MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe defeated him for third place in the Social Democratic Party’s nomination race.

His previous attempts to reach the top of the charts were also unsuccessful.

In the 2007 presidential election, he was a presidential candidate for the Action Congress. He came in third place behind PDP presidential candidate Umaru Yar’Adua and ANPP presidential candidate Muhammadu Buhari.

During the 2011 presidential election, he ran against President Goodluck Jonathan in the People’s Democratic Party presidential primaries, but lost.

He joined the All Progressives Congress in 2014, just before the 2015 presidential election, and ran for president, losing to Muhammadu Buhari in the primaries.

He rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party in 2017 and ran for president in the 2019 presidential election as the party’s presidential candidate.

President Muhammadu Buhari was defeated for the second time.

Atiku wants to run again in 2023, when he will be 77 years old.

Reps Tell Security Agencies to End Attacks On Abuja-Kaduna Road

0

On Wednesday, the House of Representatives urged security agencies to stop attacks and save the lives of Nigerians traveling along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway.

The House passed a motion by Abubakar Hassan Nalaraba (APC, Nassarawa), who described the rising number of road attacks as alarming.
Bandit attacks on travelers on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway, according to Nalaraba, have instilled fear and anxiety in Nigerians, threatening their freedom of movement for socio-economic engagements.

“Despite funds being released for the upgrade of security apparatus, there appears to be no improvement in the security situation in Nigeria,” said Ossai Nicholas Ossai.

He proposed an amendment to the motion’s prayers, requesting that relevant House committees on National Security provide monthly briefings to principal officers and a quarterly briefing to the general house, allowing the House to deliberate on how to address the rising insecurity.

Man who conspired with his wife to sell their children for 700,000k

0

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Akwa Ibom State Command, allegedly arrested a man and his wife for attempting to sell their six and four-year-old daughters.
Elisha Effiong and his wife were apprehended in Uyo on November 15 after the agency received information that the couple was attempting to sell their daughters Abasifreke Edet and Rachael Edet for N700,000.

The couple stated in a statement on November 23 that the reason for their decision to sell their children was because of the hardship in the country, according to Umana Ukeme, the command’s public relations officer.

“The suspect, Elisha Edet Effiong, ‘M,’ was apprehended with his two children, Abasifreke Edet, 6, and Rachel Edet, 4, while attempting to sell them for M700,000 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State,” according to the statement.

“Effiong, 40, was apprehended at FulCare Hospital on Ekpanya Street, where he informed the security guard of his plan to sell his two children in order to pay off his debt and meet other financial obligations.

“The security guard alerted the NSCDC, and Commandant Abidemi Majekodunmi immediately dispatched members of the corps’ anti-human trafficking unit, who swung into action and apprehended the suspect and his two daughters.”

Yakubu, the Chairman of INEC, provides crucial assurance on the Commission’s BVAS technology

0

Professor Mahmood Yakubu, the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has stated that the commission has learned from the Anambra State Governorship election experience and that future polls will be better conducted and managed.

Yakubu said the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) he used in the recent election in Anambra is reliable, during an interactive meeting with online publishers in Lagos on Wednesday.

“Despite the glitches, BVAS has validated our commitment to expanding the use of technology in the electoral process.”

“I want to reassure Nigerians that the Anambra pilot taught us valuable lessons. “The next major election, the end-of-tenure Area Council election in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, scheduled for February 12, 2022, will show significant improvement,” he predicted.

Because “elections are held all-year round between one general election and another with no respite,” Yakubu called for the media’s and all stakeholders’ help in ensuring peaceful and credible elections. In Nigeria, there is no longer an election season.”

Who is afraid of Gov. Yahaya Bello?

By Rotimi Akinsanya

I have observed with much dismay, the recent drama or altercations between Governor Yahaya Bello (GYB), the youngish, ever-smiling, gap-toothed, cerebral, focused and courageous leader of Kogi state and the anti-graft agency, EFCC over the alleged diversion and secretly stashed N19.33 billion bailout funds for workers salaries released to the state years back.

The EFCC claimed the N19.33 billion was domiciled in a fixed deposit account with Sterling Bank PLC, bearing the imprimatur of “Kogi State Bailout Account.” However, the Kogi State Government has insisted, it has no such accounts domiciled with the bank at the center of the controversy. The narrations make the saga more interesting. But it has placed a heavy burden of clearing the incidental conjectures generated by a tale crafted and circulated by the anti-graft agency.

More intriguing, the EFCC suddenly made a detour by withdrawing the suit filed in court seeking to establish the source and ownership of the about N20 billion bailout funds domiciled in Sterling Bank PLC. I find it completely, incongruent, the EFCC’s multiple explanations of freezing, unfreezing, discontinuation with the case and the return of the said amount to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

I am more scared and suspicious that the EFCC , through its spokesperson, Mr. Willson Uwujaren suddenly expressed the commission’s public disinterest in exposing the source and ownership of the funds, but felt accomplished that it blocked the exit of the funds. Except the EFCC has invented new laws or operating now on the basis of personal discretion, why is it necessary to back out from such a sensitive investigation of a presumed “executive fraud” after the media blitzkrieg on the matter?

Exposure of financial crimes and its sources assist in deterring others. But in this instance, the EFCC wittingly denied Nigeria this opportunity by arm-twisting itself and pleading that the controversies be laid to rest with the CBN’s custody of the money, persuading itself feebly that it “is expedient for the instant suit to be discontinued and the account unfrozen”.

I suspect grandeur hatchet job of some covert political antagonists’ at play against GYB to tarnish his public image. It appears to me these politicians are desperate to portray GYB as a corrupt politician, governor and leader before the Nigerian public since he is seeking the 2023 Presidency of Nigeria.

Can any one of us reasonably imagine that a State Governor could disown such humongous amounts in this period of severe economic crunch? It’s incredible! Ask Rivers State Gov. Nyemson Wike, who instantly claimed ownership of huge sums of monies, in different currencies, the EFCC discovered hidden in a building in Lagos state. He didn’t take a breath before claiming the discovered monies belonged to the people of Rivers state.

Is GYB a different personality? Is he being blackmailed or given a bad name in order to smear his reputation and halt his rising political profile in the race for Aso Rock in 2023? Since Nigerian youths officially adopted GYB as their next President, to continue with the marvelous works of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Kogi Governor’s shadows are shuddering many political camps; penetrating rare places ; receiving frantic endorsements from all stakeholders and the Youths throughout the country. It has caused some extreme anxiety in some persons.

Precisely, GYB’s political outings are causing nightmares to many opponents including traditional politicians and perpetual powermongers in Nigeria. Could it be the reason for the recent attempt to demean his person and administration on the plank of the EFCC?

Methinks, EFCC’s latter conflicting narratives of same incident and its sudden lack of enthusiasm gives more credence to these obvious conspiracy theories against GYB, pointing to his 2023 Presidential ambition as the main target.

Therefore, as a public affairs analyst, I am compelled and indeed, finds it expedient to add my voice to the discourse that someone, somewhere is afraid of the rising profile of Gov. Yahaya Bello. I can vouch that the EFCC’s baseless hounding of GYB is an apt expression of the morbid fear in some powerful political forces. Certainly, some persons are not comfortable with the 2023 Presidential aspiration of Gov. Yahaya Bello who is being generously called upon to step into Nigeria’s main leadership fabric to continue with the good legacies of President Buhari.

Why I’m I this assertive on this angle? Such huge sums of money deposited with a commercial bank these years would yield amazing interests in millions or even billions of naira. How much did the fix deposit yielded on the account discovered by the EFCC, in addition to the original sum of N19.33 billion? It’s unrealistic that only the deposited money was recovered. Besides, the operationalization of fixed deposit accounts is for a fixed period. EFCC’s backout against the case would have also explained to Nigerians lucid details such as the terminal date of the deposit account where the N19.33 was found. But it declined.

So, the unassailable truth by EFCC’s poor outing is merely to cushion the path for GYB’s detractors who are apparently against his giant strides in the development of Kogi state, in order to frustrate the intervention of investors, development partners and sow a seed of discord between the Governor and the good people of Kogi state, as evidently, “The Kogi State government had disbursed its bailout loans for the purpose of which it was granted as of October 2019.”

We can baselessly drag the personality and reputation of GYB into the murky waters of Nigerian politics. Nonetheless, what is indisputable is his manifest beneficial leadership to the people of Kogi. He has worked hard to make Kogi State one of the most peaceful and devoid of all manner of security threats plaguing other states.

Before his divine rescue mission in the state, Kogi was a haven for appalling armed robberies, kidnappings and an extension camp for Boko Haram terrorists who found the alluring mountains, forests and caves of the confluence state, convenient for habitation. Kogi state served as the transit camp for Boko Haramists and Lokojo State Capital provided the shield in their quest to make an incursion into Southern Nigeria.

For years, the forests of Kogi State were Boko Haram’s chambers for manufacturing Improved Explosive Devices (IEDs) on a large scale, which were exported to other parts of the country. But GYB has positively changed the narrative of insecurity in the state, as no traces of the heinous and violent crimes he inherited are found anywhere in the state now.

I know like most Nigerians, the conducive security atmosphere in Kogi state has promoted agriculture in the state, further amplified by GYB’s active and exceptional support to farmers. He has inspired and supported young Kogites into massive farming through orientation, subsidy inputs, fertilizer supplies, supply of seedlings, ceaseless trainings and mechanization support tools.

It is the success story of Kogi state under GYB these years, in virtually all the sectors. I am not astounded that opponents who initially, (ignorantly though), touted GYB as a failed state leader, are wounded internally and have their outer pride gravely bruised that the Governor has conquered leadership at the state level and scheming to saunter into national limelight with a shot at the Presidency in 2023. It is the only sense I can glean from prodding the EFCC to baselessly bark at GYB.

But such scare tricks are not new to us. Alhaji Adoza Yahaya Bello has done his best for Kogi State. And based on popular demand, those who transverse the length and breadth of Kogi State have called on him to sustain the efforts of the Buhari Presidency. So, we expect dissenting voices and deadly plots in the camp of the opposers as experienced now.

In any case, Nigerian youths who are actively backing GYB for Nigeria’s 2023 Presidency have concluded that the scare tricks employed by detractors are too puerile to derail the popular agenda of the masses. The first stumbling block on GYB’s path to success has crumbled independently. With this sign, those insisting on throwing the proverbial banana peels on his path must be joking and living in self -denial or on some delusional exploits.

Straightforwardly, let me end this analysis by pointing out two scenarios’ likely playing out in this macabre dance. It’s either someone is out to destroy the good reputation of the EFCC by that shameful outing on GYB. Or, some persons are desperate to destroy the country by coming forward to challenge a candidate selected by the Nigerian Youths to fly the flag of the Presidency in 2023 and expectedly, coast victoriously into Aso Rock.

And my honest advice to the antigraft agency is that it must avoid the temptation of chasing shadows in Kogi simply because some persons want to stop Gov. Yahaya Bello, as it won’t work. Such actions should also not be contemplated in any other state or on any other leader, as it is capable of eroding public confidence and credibility in the operations of the EFCC.

The Corp Member as a True National Hero

0

By Kolawole Abe

It is the dream of every graduate of tertiary institutions in Nigeria to adorn the NYSC brown Khaki uniform. We have been regaled with tales of how newly deployed corp members wear their attires posing for the cameras and sending them to their parents and loved ones. The feeling is usually ecstatic, and a dream come true.

Parents and guardians are also not left out of the euphoria. You could easily hear parents discussing about their wards deployed for the mandatory youth service year in a loud tone. This is the NYSC, the scheme that has continued to serve the critical purpose of national integration and nation building amongst the teeming youthful population in the country. Welcome to the world of the NYSC, where people from various ethnicity and religion converge pursuant to a common goal in the country’s interest.

I have, on numerous forums, canvassed for improved funding for the operations of the NYSC due to its critical role in the socio-economic development of the country. My position has been hinged on the invaluable role the one year service period plays in the lives of our youths. We should also remember that some youths have, as a result of their engagement in the NYSC, realized their potentials and set out to conquer in their various life endeavours. Some have also met their life partners, while some have been beneficiaries of goodwill from parts of the country they found themselves. And the list goes on.

Beyond all of the above mentioned, I believe that a critical aspect of the NYSC has been neglected for a long time: the corp members themselves. Their sacrifices and efforts in important health, educational and agricultural sectors have not been given adequate recognition.

From NYSC doctors to teachers that are rendering invaluable services in public hospitals and schools to the deployment of corp members during elections in the country. While it is sad that some paid the supreme price in service to the country, it does not by any stretch of imagination diminish the fact that the Corp members are the true national heroes.

One needed to tour rural communities in parts of Nigeria and see the level of bonding exhibited between corp members and members of the host communities. In most cases, despite the language barrier, corp members find a way to interact and live in peace in their host communities.

I dare say corp members live the life of patriots, who leave the comfort of their homes to places, they have not visited before in most instances and blend to their culture and way of life throughout their service year, making contributions to the growth and development of the area.

If this is not an act of patriotism, I don’t know what else to call it. Call it the life of sacrifice. You won’t be wrong too, because we are availed daily with tales of corp members doing exploits in their places of primary assignment. It’s on record that schools have been built, vocational centres erected and a host of other notable projects mainly executed by corp members from their savings and donations from charitable individuals and organizations. Corp members have also been active as first-line responders in times of crisis, as evident in times of the coronavirus pandemic, the Ebola epidemic and cholera outbreaks in some parts of the country.

It is also on record that some communities in Nigeria depend on the services of corp members in their education sector because of the value they bring to the table year in and year out. The list is endless and why every corp member must rise in defence of the NYSC scheme.

Most times, I wonder how the country would have fared without the services of corp members who dot the nook and cranny of the country working tirelessly during their service year. But we can’t all but be grateful that the leadership of the NYSC in recent times has been actively introducing reforms that further empower corps members to be well equipped as entrepreneurs through its skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development programme.

The proposed NYSC Trust Fund would indeed be a game-changer because the full manifestation of the potentials of corp members would be availed the country. And Nigeria would be better for it. I think it is time for every corp member to take their pride in place as true national heroes in the scheme of affairs in the country. Your sacrifices towards a great and better Nigeria are outstanding and appreciated. Needless I say more, the corp member is an embodiment of strength, resilience and dexterity. We must admit and recognize this much in our quest for greatness as a people and as a country.

To all the corp members out there giving their best, I salute your courage in the face of danger; I salute your contributions to the socio-economic development of Nigeria, now and always. And to all prospective corps members, may your road be rough!

Lagos #EndSARS Panel Report rejected by FG due to inconsistencies and innuendoes

0

The federal government responded to the report of the Lagos Judicial Panel of Inquiry (JPI) set up by the Lagos state government to investigate the #EndSARs protest on October 20, 2020, insisting that nothing in the document compelled it to change its position on the issue.

The government, which had long maintained that there was no evidence of the deaths of protesters demanding, among other things, an end to police brutality, the dissolution of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), and harassment of young people, claimed that the report was based on “tales by moonlight” on social media.

The President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration claimed that the report was riddled with errors, inconsistencies, discrepancies, speculations, innuendoes, omissions, and conclusions that were not supported by evidence, speaking through the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed, in Abuja.

At least 11 people were killed during the peaceful demonstration at the Lekki Tollgate, according to a report leaked last week.

The maiming and killing of unarmed, helpless, and unresisting protesters while sitting on the floor and waving their Nigerian flags and singing the National Anthem was described as “atrocious” by the report, which added that the act could be compared to a “massacre in context.”

According to the report, four others were presumed dead in addition to the 11 confirmed dead, making a total of 48 victims of the Lekki incident, which shook the country last year.

The panel also stated in the 309-page report that 24 of the 48 victims were shot, while 15 others were assaulted by soldiers and police, and specifically indicted the army and police for shooting directly at fleeing protesters who had run into the shanties and the Lagoon.

But, in Mohammed’s opinion, what was circulating in the public sphere was simply a rehash of the unverified fake news that had been circulating on social media since the incident last year.

He thought it was incredible that a judicial panel tasked with investigating an incident had submitted a report replete with allegations, the same allegations it had been tasked with investigating in the first place.

Instead of sitting for an entire year, the panel could have simply compiled social media stories about the incident and submitted them, saving taxpayers’ money and everyone’s time, according to the minister.

He maintained, “That report is nothing more than the triumph of fake news and the intimidation of a silent majority by a vociferous lynch mob.”

Mohammed claimed that the panelists threw out the testimony of ballistic experts who testified before it in what he called a “critical analysis” of the document.

According to the experts, no military grade live ammunition (high-velocity) was fired at the protesters at Lekki Tollgate on October 20, 2020, within the timeframe of reference, which was 18.30- 20.34 hours, based on the medical data examined and the nature of the injuries sustained by the “victims.”

Furthermore, the minister claimed that the panel ignored the experts’ findings that four gunshot wounds sustained between 19:05 and 19:45 hours, which were investigated by the team, were discharged by either low velocity calibre and/or artisanal/12-gauge firearms.

He noted that the panelists had been told by a team of experts that if military personnel had deliberately fired military grade live ammunition directly at the protesters, there would have been far more fatalities and catastrophic injuries.

The minister went on to say that the same panel that said it believed Prof. John Obafunwa’s testimony that only three of the bodies on which post mortems were performed were from Lekki and only one had gunshot wounds later contradicted itself by saying “nine persons” died of gunshot wounds in Lekki.

He claimed that the man whose testimony that he counted 11 bodies in a military van before fleeing was said to be crucial by the panel never testified in person.

“Rather, someone else played the video of his ‘testimony.'” The panel did not question the credibility of a man who claimed to have been shot and presumed dead but still had time to count dead bodies inside a supposedly dark van at night.

“The panel stated that trucks with brushes underneath were brought to the Lekki Tollgate in the morning of October 21, 2020, to clean up bloodstains and other evidence, but that when it returned on October 30, 2020, it found bullet casings at the same location.”

“It claimed that soldiers picked up bullet casings from Lekki Tollgate on the night of October 20, 2020, but that policemen came to the same spot on October 21, 2020 to pick up the same bullet casings!”

“The panel remained silent on the relatives of those who were allegedly killed, implying only that they were afraid to testify.” Even goats, let alone humans, have owners who will look for them if they do not return home.

“Where are the relatives of those allegedly killed at the Lekki Tollgate?” What are the families’ names and addresses if the panel recommends compensation for them? When no family members have shown up, who will receive the compensation?

“How did a man who claimed to have seen his brother’s lifeless body end up on the panel’s list of deceased people?” How can a judicial panel persuade anyone that the names of some Lekki Tollgate victims listed as numbers 3 (Jide), 42 (Tola), and 43 (Wisdom) are not made up?

“Why did the judicial panel feel compelled to invent a euphemism for massacre called’massacre in context?'” An act of genocide is an act of genocide. “What does massacre mean in this context?” he inquired.

He claims that the report never mentioned cases of police officers being brutally murdered or the widespread destruction of police stations, vehicles, and other property during the EndSARS protest, implying that the panel may not have considered police officers and women to be human beings.

Furthermore, the minister stated that the report “was too busy looking for evidence to support its conclusion of’massacre in context” to make any recommendations on the innocent people whose businesses were attacked and destroyed during the protest in Lagos.

“It is clear, based on the ongoing, that the panel’s report in circulation cannot be trusted because its authenticity is questioned.” Furthermore, as the convening authority, the Lagos State Government has yet to release any official report to the public. The panel hasn’t done so either.

“Leaking an unsigned report to the public in a cowardly manner is insufficient. Assuming that the report in circulation is genuine, it is common knowledge that the report of such a panel has no legal standing until the convening authority issues a White Paper and publishes it in the Gazette.

“It is thus premature for any person or entity to seek to condemn the federal government, its agencies, or officials based on such an unofficial and ‘unvalidated’ report,” he opined.

The minister also chastised CNN for what he claimed was its celebration of the leaked report, claiming that in its haste to claim vindication, CNN didn’t read the report before breaking out the drums.

“By doing so, CNN has prematurely celebrated and has now committed a double blunder: first, by relying on unverified social media stories and videos to conduct an investigation into the October 20th 2020 incident in Lekki, where it had no correspondent on the ground.

“CNN made a mistake in its report on the panel’s findings, which fell short of basic journalistic standards. Second, CNN went live to celebrate an unsigned and unverified report full of inconsistencies, errors, discrepancies, and innuendoes. “That’s a double blunder by a news organization eager to compromise standards just to claim vindication,” he stressed.

“There is absolutely nothing in the report that is circulating that makes us change our position that there was no massacre at Lekki on October 20, 2020,” the minister continued. To change our minds, we need to produce and present to the public a thorough investigation of the incident that meets all required standards and can withstand scrutiny.

“The currently circulated report fails to meet those requirements. We also want to hear from the families of those who were allegedly killed in Lekki. It’s impossible to believe that some families have remained silent because they are afraid. Any parent who is afraid to testify about his or her child’s death is unworthy of the title of parent.

“We deny that our soldiers and police officers massacred innocent Nigerians on October 20, 2020 in Lekki. The weight of the evidence does not support that conclusion. Murder indictment is a serious matter that cannot be handled solely on the basis of allegations and corroborating evidence, as the panel did.

“Allegations of this nature must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.” The current report is designed to embarrass the federal government and its agencies in the absence of foolproof evidence.”

According to Mohammed, the federal government has never condoned the abuse of Nigerians’ rights by security agencies under any guise, which is why SARS was disbanded and states were encouraged to set up panels to investigate reports of human rights abuses allegedly committed by the disbanded personnel.

“The 37 police officers and six soldiers killed during the EndSARS protests across the country are also Nigerians who should not be forgotten.”

“Those who have prematurely celebrated the report in circulation should now read it carefully and tell Nigerians whether it can pass any test.”

Lawan: Nigeria’s Security Challenges Require Diversified Solutions

0

President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has stated that in order for Nigeria to overcome its security challenges, efforts must be made to seek diversified solutions to the problems of banditry, militancy, and insurgency other than the military option.

Senator Rochas Okorocha raised a point of order to draw the Senate’s attention to the escalating insecurity in Imo state, and Lawan stated as much in his remarks.

According to the Senate President, the National Assembly has followed a similar approach in formulating legislative interventions to address the country’s security challenges.

Job creation and the introduction of required legislation to promote economic development from local and foreign investments, he explained, are examples of such interventions.

“This Senate, and indeed the entire National Assembly, has been very consistent in seeking some kind of solution – a more permanent solution – to end the country’s security situation, and we will continue to do so.”

“[And] I agree that we need to diversify our means of addressing the many myriads of security challenges that exist across the country,” Lawan said.

Senator Okorocha lamented the “escalating state of insecurity” in Imo state while speaking under Order 43 (Personal Explanation) of the Senate Rules.

As a result, he sought the upper chamber’s help in finding a solution to the problem.

“Where I represent, Mr. President, every day in the state passes without one ugly story of kidnapping, killing, maiming, and burning of innocent people’s homes and shops,” Okorocha said.

“Two weeks ago, Mr. Senate President, it was the assassination of traditional rulers. A police officer was killed the other day, and an Army soldier was killed just a few days ago.

“Again, Mr. Senate President, the killing of innocent souls and the burning of people’s houses and homes has prompted grave concern.

“That is why I believe it is appropriate to bring to the attention of this red chamber, and by extension, the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that something must be done to ensure the safety of the lives and property of Imo state citizens.”

“But most importantly, I believe the situation necessitates some form of intervention.”

engagements to really get down to the nitty gritty and resolve issues in a timely manner.

“Because the military, police, and other security agencies have become involved over time, but it appears to be escalating on a daily basis.”

“So, I’m just informing you, and by extension, that we need to figure out a way to resolve this so that peace can reign in that land.”

Air Traffic Controllers Suspend Protest Over Colleague’s Death

0

The Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) has called a halt to a two-day strike in response to the death of one of its members, Aniekan Effiong Inuk.
According to reports, air traffic controllers went on “flow control” in protest of Inuk’s death while on duty at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport on Monday.

The protest will take place from November 23 to 24, according to the statement, to express their dissatisfaction with the lack of decent working conditions.

In the last two years, nine members of the association have died on the job as a result of poor working conditions and insufficient staffing, according to the statement.

NACTA, on the other hand, has asked the aviation industry’s relevant authorities to ensure that some of its demands are met within two weeks.

However, NATCA President Abayomi Agoro told The PUNCH on Wednesday that the protest has been suspended as a result of intervention by relevant authorities.

Today, Agoro said, the association would meet with Musa Nuhu, the Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
