As the crisis engulfing the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano continues, five former gubernatorial aspirants from the state’s defunct All Nigeria People’s Party, ANPP, have warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APCNational )’s Caretaker Committee against ignoring Kano’s internal party crises.

They reiterated their requests for the party’s national secretariat to address the Kano APC crisis in a secure and democratic manner, moving factions away from competing views and actions.

Director-General of the Group, Yusuf Ado Kibiya, who was also a former commissioner in the cabinet of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, noted that they formed the APC Maslaha group not as a new faction within the party but to champion the true and just reconciliation of warring factions.

He said APC Maslaha Group was constituted by five eminent APC elders in Kano State to address the incessant problem of intraparty conflicts as well as create a platform where peace, stability and harmonious relationship among party members would be cordially maintained.

“You may wish to recall that wherever intra-party conflict exists, the end result is often the failure to achieve success during election.

“Therefore, APC Maslaha seeks the support of all and sundry within Kano APC to sheath their swords to allow peace to prevail for the interest of democracy and successful election results in 2023,” he said.

He emphasized that APC Maslaha wished to ensure that the Democratic process at all levels is adhered to support fielding credible candidates into political offices.

We are fighting endemic injustice against Igbos by govt, colonial powers – IPOB

On Friday, the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, stated that the goal of their battle is to eliminate endemic injustice perpetrated by the Nigerian state in conjunction with colonial powers against the innocent and peace-loving people of Biafra.

This was said by the group’s media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, in a statement issued in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State.

“The struggle for Biafra liberation is a war against endemic injustice inflicted against the innocent and peace-loving people of Biafra by the Nigerian State in partnership with colonial forces who refuse to forgive Biafra for championing Nigerian independence in 1960,” the statement stated. Because of the important roles played by Biafrans in the Nigerian independence struggle.

“So, IPOB has been in the forefront of this struggle for the liberation of our people and we must achieve it by the grace of God Almighty Chukwu Okike Abiama who is in Heaven. Our aim is to end the marginalization and humiliation of our people; to restore their human dignity and hope and to give them a country where they can live in peace and fulfil destiny.

“We thank you for recognizing that there was a massacre of the people of the East in 1966 which Nigeria has been covering up by removing history from the Nigeria academic curriculum of primary and secondary schools since 1973. This crafty manipulation is simply because they don’t want the world to know the evil they committed against the innocent citizens of Biafra.

“IPOB has exposed the atrocities of the Nigerian state against Biafra and brought it to the knowledge of the world. Today everybody is now talking about the atrocities committed against the people of Eastern Nigeria during the war from 1967 to 1970.

“Self-determination is not a crime but the right of the people to agitate for freedom. Our struggle for independence is not a declaration of war as mischievously misconstrued by the enemies. We only want to be free from oppression and subjugation; We want to be free from political exclusion and economic strangulation; We want to be free from mass slaughter by those who value cows above human lives.

“If the atrocities and unprovoked attacks against Biafra by Nigeria and in particular the Fulani jihadists were to be done to any country in Europe or Asia, do you think the world would have kept quiet? We don’t know why the world has continued to watch the ongoing genocide against the innocent people of Biafra by the Nigerian state and non-state actors.

“When we agitate peacefully, they slaughter us the more, and those who are lucky to be arrested alive are dumped in various secret cells in the North and abandoned. Yet the same double-faced Government is busy freeing arrested Fulani bandits and terrorists killing innocent Indigenous Nigerians in their numbers.

“IPOB remains a peaceful movement seeking freedom for the oppressed people of Biafra and those who don’t know what we are doing are busy blackmailing us. But the fact is that the movement for the emancipation of Biafra is beyond any single individual including our leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. It’s now a global movement that cannot be stopped by any man born of a woman. It’s a divine project that must be completed” the group noted.

Only Gov Yahaya Bello can end incessant ASUU strikes in Nigeria – Don

Dr. Uzah Thomas, the Dean of Student Affairs Kwararafa University Wukari, Taraba State, has said only the Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello can put a stop to the incessant strike actions by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The university don stated this in a paper he presented at the Civil Society Think Tank Round Table on a Glance into Nigeria’s Future and Governor Yahaya Bello’s Developmental Politics; 2023 in Perspective.

In his presentation, Dr. Thomas hammered on Governor Bello’s giant strides in the education sector in Kogi to press home his point.

Bello who is being tipped by many Nigerians to run for the office of the President in 2023, upon assuming office as Kogi State Governor in 2015, ended the strike pandemic that has delayed academic activities at the state-owned university at Anyigba for years by pulling the university out of ASUU. He also established a new specialized university – Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.

Dr. Thomas in his paper titled “Looking into the Future of Nigeria through Governor Yahaya Bello’s leadership Strides in Kogi State”, declared that “there has been a massive investment in the educational sector in the state, with a large chunk of the state budget allocated to education. This has consequently reflected in the revamping of schools across the state. The quality of human resources in the state has improved tremendously by implementing a policy on training and retraining for teachers.”

He argued that “in looking at Nigeria from the Kogi State perspective before the assumption of office Governor Yahaya Bello, it must be stated that leadership competence is what is required to take the country out of the doldrums. The agitations for zoning based on ethnicity do not stand a chance. This paper concludes that competence should be emphasized.”

In similar vein, Prof Ahmed Danfulani, the former Director General of National Institute for Peace and Strategy Studies (NIPSS) Kuru, said Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has set examples that should be amplified and used as a yardstick in assessing candidates that have signified interest in leading Nigeria.

Prof Danfulani stated this while delivering a speech as a guest speaker at the Civil Society Think Tank Round Table on “A Glance into Nigeria’s Future and Governor Yahaya Bello’s Developmental Politics; 2023 in Perspective.”

He said Governor Yahaya Bello example in leadership is “noteworthy”, adding that his approach to governance in the state is top-notch.

“At the back of our minds, let us have that we must be clear about the qualities the next President of Nigeria should possess. This is on the heels that stepping into the shoes of President Muhammadu Buhari is a tedious task,” Danfulani said.

12 Killed As Farmers, Herders Clash In Chad

Twelve people have been killed in clashes between herders and farmers in southern Chad, where ethnic friction over land is common, the authorities said Friday.
Herders armed with guns killed 11 farmers in retaliation, according to Ali Ahmat Akhabach, governor of Moyen-Chari province, who spoke to AFP by phone.
The incident took place on Wednesday in the village of Sandana, about 550 kilometres (320 miles) south of the capital, N’Djamena, he said.

“The toll is 12 dead, and several armed people were arrested,” Ahmat Akhabach said. “The situation is currently under control.”
In a statement, the Chadian Convention for Human Rights, an NGO, attacked what it called “savage killing” and “the use of force… as a way to resolve” disputes.
Squabbles of this kind are common in central and southern Chad, typically pitting semi-nomadic Arab herders against darker-skinned sedentary farmers.
Clashes erupt when animals graze on farmers’ fields, destroying the crops.
In February 2021, 35 people were killed in southern Chad in similar circumstances, and 22 died in the more arid eastern part of the country in August.
