APC National Convention: Youth, Stakeholders Kick Against Malami’s Involvement With BackDoor List

0

Some APC youths, stakeholders, and other party members have demanded that Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, resign immediately over alleged plots to impose candidates on the party.

The group, which goes by the name Concerned APC Youth Forum, claims the AGF has perfected plans to smuggle a list into the party’s national convention on February 26th.

The APC forum said in a press statement issued today in Abuja that Malami is on a mission to sow widespread discontent in the party by imposing candidates, the majority of whom are his allies and cronies.
The group’s convener/president, Comr. Owolabi Abdullahi, therefore, described Malami as an embarrassment to the party and the Buhari administration in all ramifications.

Abdullahi noted that as a matter of urgency, the AGF must desist from his ploy to dictate to members of the APC how to elect and whom to elect at the convention.

In order to save his reputation, the group, however, urged President Buhari to relieve Malami of his duties in the party’s interest should he fail to tender his immediate resignation from office.

Read full statement below:

The recent events in the buildup to the APC national convention slated for February 26th 2022, has indeed called for concern from all stakeholders; hence this press conference convoked to press for the immediate resignation of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami from office with immediate effect.

We are indeed concerned that a high ranking member of the government and the party in the mould of the Justice Minister would elect to undertake acts that are inimical to the ideals of the party, which are clearly outside his purview. Mr Abubakar Malami, in recent times, has been meddlesome in the affairs of the party, using his office to cause intimidation and harassment to the current leadership of the party into submitting to his whims and caprices.

The Concerned APC Youth Forum finds his actions worrisome and an indication that the forthcoming National convention of the party might be in jeopardy due to the unwholesome activities of party members who have elected to make impositions of candidates the new norm at the expense of the array of credible candidates that have signified interest in the leadership positions in the party. We wish to state that the meddlesomeness of the AGF, Abubakar Malami, in the party’s affairs is unbecoming of a public official and the country’s chief law officer, whose conduct ought to be guided by fairness, equity and justice.

But he has indeed displayed an apparent lack of grasp of the issues regarding equity and justice through his actions regarding the forthcoming National Convention of the APC. As concerned stakeholders of the party, we wish to put it on record that the AGF is on a mission to cause gross disaffection in the party through the attempt to impose candidates on the party, most of which are his allies and cronies through which he intends to hijack the party structure in furtherance of his political ambition.

It is also more worrisome that the AGF, Abubakar Malami, has carried on like the party’s legal adviser at the expense of his responsibilities as the chief law officer of the country, which has caused the government monumental embarrassment in recent times. There are numerous cases where his legal advice to Mr President on critical matters of national concern has caused the government untold embarrassment and to the chagrin of the APC as a party of repute.

A good example is how the AGF, Abubakar Malami, misled the president into signing Executive Order 10 that the Supreme Court has nullified. This is the most unbecoming of the AGF. It is our considered opinion that he is not fit for purpose.

His continued stay in office as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation can no longer be justified. The Concerned APC Youth Forum wishes to inform all stakeholders of the APC that the AGF, Abubakar Malami, is an embarrassment to the party and the APC government in all ramifications. So much so that we are tempted to question his legal qualifications and competence owing to the public ridicule he has brought to the revered Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.

The AGF, Abubakar Malami, must, as a matter of urgency, desist from his ploy to dictate to members of the APC how to elect and whom to elect at the National Convention of the party. This is on the heels that should he continue in this fashion; there would be a torrent of litigation against the party after the National Convention.

The APC as a party is known for its strict observance of democratic principles in line with the position of President Muhammadu Buhari, and for the AGF, having a contrary motive and strategy leaves all to the imagination with regards to his professional competence. We are consequently using this medium to call for the immediate resignation from the office of the AGF, Abubakar Malami, as it has been established beyond reasonable doubt that he lacks the moral right to advise Mr President on legal matters and the spirits of the Constitution is at stake with his continued stay in office.

He must be reminded that the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation is not an instrument for intimidation and imposition. And as the Chief Law Officer of the country, his public conduct must reflect that of a constitutional purist. We also wish to remind the AGF, Abubakar Malami, that the country is indeed aware of how he has monetized the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation in a most despicable and inglorious manner.

This is unacceptable, and his recent conduct within the party indeed justifies this position where he has positioned himself to be the Alfa and Omega regarding who occupies leadership positions in the party. The Concerned APC Youth Forum wishes to reiterate that democracy is at stake with the continued stay in office of the AGF, Abubakar Malami.

As such, nothing short of his immediate resignation from office would be accepted. Our firm position is that the APC as a party cannot afford the luxury of going into the 2023 general election in a rancorous manner, which would eventually lead to the disintegration of the party, and the consequent electoral defeat come 2023.

We are using this medium to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to act in the party’s interest by relieving the AGF, Abubakar Malami, of his duties should he fail to tender his immediate resignation from office. Mr President must be aware that his hard-earned reputation as an upright and fair leader to all is also at stake with how the AGF, Abubakar Malami, has conducted himself.

This is indeed a litmus test for the party. We desire that Mr President would act decisively due to the urgency and necessity of the now. We also urge other concerned stakeholders of our great party to keep the faith alive as the shenanigans of the AGF, Abubakar Malami, and his co-travellers won’t see the light of the day.

We thank you all for your kind attention and encourage all to ensure that democracy thrives in our great party. We shall not be a party to any form of unnecessary interference in the democratic processes in the party.

Chief Ayo Adebanjo, the acting leader of Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-political organization, has described Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, as a leading prophet in Nigeria.

Primate Ayodele’s annual thanksgiving ceremony was held yesterday at the church’s premises in Lagos, and Adebanjo made a surprise appearance.

Chief Adebanjo revealed that he has known Primate Ayodele for over 40 years, though it has been a while since they last saw him before yesterday.

“I came to honor my son; I’ve known him for a long time; he began prophesying early in his ministry and has proven to be a rare messenger of God; I haven’t seen him in 20 years.”

I want to wish him more years and success. Primate Ayodele is the number one prophet in Nigeria,” he said.

Reacting to the surprise appearance of Chief Adebanjo, Primate Ayodele expressed heartfelt gratitude to the nonagenarian for coming to celebrate him, while talking about how far their relationship has come.

Going down the memory lane, Primate Ayodele noted that he used to go to Pa Adebanjo’s house to eat at the early stage of his ministry and that he was very instrumental to him and his ministry.

“Baba Adebanjo’s impact in my ministry cannot be underestimated. I remember during the early days of my ministry when I used to go to his house to eat. Whenever I visit him, we talk for hours till the late hours of the night, we were very close and enjoyed a relationship of a father and son.

“Baba Adebanjo is someone I respect so much for his personality. He is vibrant, intelligent, wise and has all the qualities of a good man. Indeed, He is a definition of a good man,” he said.

“I don’t take his surprise appearance for granted, I pray God strengthens him, give him long life so he can reap the fruit of his labour.”

FCT polls: Situation Room urges security agencies to pursue electoral defaulters

The Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room (NCSSR) has urged security agencies to pursue and prosecute electoral defaulters in the recently concluded FCT Area Council election.
NCSSR’s co-convener, James Ugochukwu, made the call in Abuja while presenting the group’s election findings.
He expressed regret that vote-buying appears to have become a common occurrence in the country’s elections, with the FCT election being no exception.
“Votes were sold for between N1,000 and N2,000 per voter in some locations,” he said. Voter-buying reportedly took the form of digital transfers in some locations, in addition to the usual cash distribution.
“The EFCC and ICPC should go after all the electoral offenders in Nigeria to curtail the trend of commercialization of votes and all electoral malpractices.”
Also speaking, convener of situation room, Ene Obi, called on INEC to improve its logistic arrangements.

Obi said, “Many of the residents in the FCT were not aware of the elections until about two weeks to the elections. On election day particularly in the urban areas, voter turnout was very low.
“This may have been caused by several factors including the conflicting statements on restriction of movement and a lack of interest by the elite. Some residents also noted that they are registered to vote in their respective States and could not transfer to vote in the FCT just for the elections.
“Situation Room calls on INEC to carry out extensive voter education to raise awareness on the new polling units created in its Expansion of Access to Polling Units exercise in 2021, as well as the procedure for allotting voters to these new locations. INEC needs to also review the accessibility of polling units with registered voters who are PWDs, and also ensure the deployment of assistive materials to these locations.
“Political parties should also actively engage in voter mobilisation to address the trend of diminishing voter turnout. Parties and candidates are the beneficiaries of the votes and are not doing enough to canvass for these votes.

“Situation Room enjoins security agencies to continue to build on the gains they have recorded in in election security in recent times by remaining professional in their conducts in upcoming elections. Also, security officials should devise means of actively addressing vote buying during elections.
“Situation Room is specifically calling on President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the electoral bill to raise the standard of elections in Nigeria, improve electoral environment and prevent further excuses or deficiency in the electoral and voting processes.”

Former aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has revealed what those campaigning for Vice President Yemi Osinbajo are doing with the leaked video of presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.

Osinbajo’s campaigners, according to Omokri, are promoting the video of Tinubu’s wet cloth.

The former presidential aide said in a tweet that he could reveal the names of Osinbajo’s campaign staffers who were behind the leaked video.

He, on the other hand, believes that both camps should work out their differences.

“Tinubu’s camp may be surprised to learn that the embarrassing leaks about him are being promoted by Vice President Osinbajo’s campaigners,” Omokri writes.
“We can name names if they want. Let them sort themselves out, although we appreciate them exposing their dirty linen!”

Video footage had emerged on social media of the All Progressives Congress, APC, National Leader having a wet cloth.

The incident was noticed and recorded while Tinubu was addressing his followers at the palace of the Awujale of Ijebuland in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The video had since sparked controversy among Nigerians as they insist that the former Governor of Lagos State is fit to rule Nigeria.

Despite speculations of him running, Osinbajo has denied contesting for the Presidency in 2023.

Hon. Muhammad tells FG that local vaccine production should be budgeted for N50b annually for 5 yrs

The Federal Government has been advised to set aside 50 billion naira per year for the production of local vaccines in Nigeria for the next five years.

This is to ensure vaccine independence and to permanently resolve the country’s nagging issue of local vaccine production.

Hon. Muhammad Usman, Chairman of the National Advocate for Health (NA4H), gave the advice at a two-day strategic and advocacy retreat on COVID-19 and health security held in Abuja by the Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN).

The retreat is a follow-up to the Presidential Steering Committee’s (PSC) National COVID-19 Summit, which took place in Abuja in December last year.
It would be recalled that Nigeria currently imports almost all its human vaccines from other countries of the world. This, experts said, is not healthy for the country.

Hon. Usman who is a former law maker at the House of Representative, insisted that for Nigeria to achieve sustainable independence in local vaccine production, the federal government must make concerted efforts and sacrifices.

He regretted that the COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the many weakness of Nigeria’s health system, hence, the need for the governments at all levels and other critical stakeholders to show commitment and take advantage of the pandemic and resolve the gaps, especially, local vaccine production in the country.

According to Hon. Usman: “We still need more resources in the health sector because there are certain aspects that are yet to be prioritized. For example, the local vaccine production.

“The COVID pandemic has shown the world that number one priority apart from security is health. The lack of adequate resources has hindered vaccine production in the country. I know in year 2020, 10 billion naira was earmarked for vaccine production.

“To me, that 10 billion naira is very paltry. I am suggesting that in an annual basis, we need to continue to allocate 50 billion naira for a period of five years for vaccine production in the country.

“Nigeria will not lose anything if it does that. This is because we must show commitment as a nation. It is not enough for the government to say they want to do something, there is need to show commitment.

“Considering Nigeria’s estimated population of over 200 million, we should use this COVID-19 pandemic to produce vaccine locally and even export. It will be unfortunate if another pandemic comes and meet us without having the capacity to produce vaccine locally.”

While calling for intensified advocacy for the right things to be done in the country, Hon. Usman applauded the Coordinator of AHBN, Dr. Aminu Magashi, for the great role he is playing in trying to bring the government and the partners together to improve the health sector in the country.

“Two months after the National COVID-19 Summit, we are here again to look at the key issues and decisions reached at the summit. This is commendable because this is the area that is lacking in our national life. We don’t have sustainability culture. The desired progress cannot be made unless we take action and follow-up we cannot translate decision into fruition,” he stressed.

Speaking while declaring the retreat open, the Technical Lead of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, Dr. Muhammad Muktar, called on the participants at the retreat to come up with strategies and itemise all the key issues in all critical areas of Nigeria’s health sector that need advocacy.

He said that the PSC was in support of the initiative because, according to him, “we know that it will help to push some of the laudable recommendations of the National COVID-19 Summit.

Dr. Muktar who was represented by the Dr. Ogbonna Amanze, applauded the Coordinator of the AHBN, Dr. Aminu Magashi, whose doggedness, patriotism, hardwork, he said, led to the success of the National COVID-19 Summit last year.

“We need to move forward. It is not only about having a communique after the summit, how do we move forward. How do we ensure that the key resolutions of that communique are put to action towards strengthening biosecurity in our country. This is because if nothing is done, these laudable recommendations will just end up in the archive.

“I want to commend the visionary people that are here who know and understand the role of advocacy towards actuallising every important cause,” he stressed.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Coordinator AHBN, Dr. Aminu Magashi, said that the retreat was aimed at discussing some of the key resolutions and recommendations of the National COVID-19 Summit in order to identify key advocacy areas.

“During this 2-day retreat, participants will review key recommendations from many of the papers presented at The National COVID-19 Summit.

”They will also brainstorm on advocacy priorities needed to address some of the gaps at national and sub-national levels to galvanise actions in the areas of accountability strengthening, equitable recovery and building back better. “Others are sustainable financing to address COVID-19 and health security, ramping up vaccination, testing and treatment, local vaccine production and border health/security,” he said.

APC faction alleges plots to assassinate Aregbesola at Oshogbo Shootout.

The Rasaq Salinsile faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State claims that the state government discovered a plot to assassinate Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior.

According to a press release signed by Abiodun Agboola, the Osun APC Publicity Secretary, the alleged plot to assassinate Aregbesola involved an ambush planned for his entourage on Tuesday as they visited the Iwo Federal Constituency.

Agboola said sources close to the faction revealed that the hatchers of the plan were not happy with the failure to allegedly eliminate Aregbesola during the Osogbo shootout on Monday evening, revealing that the plot was to prevent the Iwo meeting from taking place on Tuesday.
While calling on the security agencies in the state to be proactive in designing foolproof measures to expose those in government who were behind the evil plot, the factional leadership disclosed that it had reliable information that some government officials had a meeting where a mandate to frustrate the Iwo meeting was on the agenda.

At the time of filing this report, state government officials contacted by DAILY POST refused to comment on the allegation, preferring that it is the party that should give an appropriate response about the allegation.

Attempts to get members of the party to comment on the allegation also proved futile.

Meanwhile, Prince Gboyega Famodun, the Chairman of the Osun APC has called on the Presidency and the Inspector-General of Police to call the Minister of Interior to order.

This as the Osun APC chairman also accused the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) of lending itself an infrastructure of disrupting the peace that Osun has been enjoying.

In a press release he personally signed, Famodun accused the NSCDC of abandoning their legal duties in place of providing cover for individuals with ulterior motives who do not place value on innocent citizens’ blood.

The Osun APC chairman who recalled that Osun has remained peaceful until the countdown to the party primaries maintained that the party, the state government and the citizens of Osun were not interested in any form of violence.

While stressing that the ambition of any individual or group is not worth the blood of any Osun citizen, he warned that it was ungodly, unfair and immoral for anyone to deploy taxpayers’ money against taxpayers.

Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command had issued a statement Monday night revealing that it recovered 13 G3 and Ak-47 spent shells from the scene of the shootings at Station Road part of Osogbo.

In a statement signed by the Spokesperson of the Command, Yemisi Opalola, the Police said the actions of the Minister of Interior and that of his security escorts were conducted likely to cause a breach of the peace in the state.

The statement said the report of what transpired at the time of coming public was still sketchy but that the command will make a full report known to the public at the end of investigations.

Group Applauds Reps for Endorsing NYSC Trust Fund Bill

Conscience Nigeria (CN), a pan-Nigerian organization, has endorsed the proposed National Youth Service Corp Trust Fund, calling it a “game-changer” in the country’s efforts to address youth unemployment and job creation.

The group stated this in a statement released to journalists over the weekend by its Secretary-General, Bamidele Michael, who said the NYSC Trust Fund is laudable and would help the federal government address youth unemployment in the country.

“The proposed NYSC Trust Fund is a game-changer,” it said. The bill’s provisions are well-written, and they accurately reflect the country’s current realities in terms of job creation and addressing a critical population segmentof the country.”

“The fact that the bill intends to provide startup capital for youths across the country while undergoing the mandatory service year and even after they leave service is well positioned to set the country on the path of sustainable growth and development,” the statement read.

The group further commended the leadership of the NYSC for displaying “great foresight” in proposing to establish a Trust Fund that would address the myriads of challenges facing the youthful population in the country, especially in the area of employment generation.

“The NYSC leadership deserves commendation for the display of foresight in this critical point of our existence. The opportunities in the establishment of the Trust Fund are innumerable. This is brilliant and well-positioned to serve as the medium for the rapid development of entrepreneurship amongst the teeming youthful population in the country. This is indeed a golden opportunity that the country must harness towards socio-economic development,” it noted.

The group also called on well-meaning individuals and groups in the country to rally support for the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund in the interest of growth and development, owing to the strategic role of the youths in nation building.

“We call on well meaning individuals and groups to rally support for the establishment of the NYSC Trust Fund. This is a national concern positioned to be of immense benefit to the country. It would address unemployment; it would bring out the entrepreneurship potentials of our youths.

“The implication of having a bustling youthful population that is availed unhindered funds for the actualization of their potentials is ours for the taking. Not only shall the country experience rapid growth and development, but the burden placed on the shoulders of parents would also be lifted as youths would be actively engaged in economic ventures that would be beneficial to them and the society at large,” the group pointed out.

It therefore extended its commendation to the House of Representatives for how it had engaged deliberations on the bill on the floor, saying that the lawmakers displayed an “unalloyed commitment” to positively addressing youth unemployment in the country.

“The House of Representatives by their action that ensured the bill scaled through second reading is commendable. The deliberations on the floor of the lower chamber were rich and constructive. It indeed brought out the numerous merits of the bill. This is a display of an unalloyed commitment to national development.

“We encourage the members of the National Assembly not to relent in this commitment by ensuring that the bill gets speedy passage in the interest of the teeming youths in the country,” it urged.

It would be recalled that the proposed NYSC Trust Fund bill seeks to “provide a sustainable source of funding for NYSC, skill acquisition training and provision of startup capital to Corps members, train and retrain the personnel of the NYSC, develop camps, NYSC formations and provide facilities therein”.

Mayowa Akinfolarin, the sponsor of the bill, said the trust fund would help in promoting the spirit of self-reliance and entrepreneurship among Corps members. He said Corps members would be trained on various skills, making them establish self-sustainable businesses after completing their national service.

Akinfolarin said the trust fund would “improve the general welfare of Corps members and enhance their preparedness to effectively discharge their statutory duties of promoting national unity, integration, self reliance and accelerated development of the national economy”.

When passed into law, private organizations will contribute one percent of their net profit to the fund, while 0.2 percent of total revenue accruing to the federation account will be earmarked for the fund.

The bill has since been referred to the relevant committee of the House for further legislative inputs.

According to him, their performances were extraordinary at the concluded examinations.

He also exhorted other candidates who emerged the best in their states to become the best in their university years.

“A glaring example is Michael Kashamu ‘m’ and ‘Edward Bague ‘m’, who were earlier reprimanded for bullying other students.

“The three house masters, Valentine Igbokwe Eze ‘m’ 45 years, Ahmed Bariyu ‘m’ 52 years and Adesanya Olusesan ‘m’ 42 years, failed to take decisive action when cases of inappropriate behaviour were reported to them.”

The deceased’s cousin, Perry Oromoni, has taken to social media to alleged that some senior pupils of the college beat him up in his hostel room for refusing to join a cult.

But the school denied the claim, stating that the boy complained of pain in his legs and hip following an injury he sustained while playing football.

Olaleye Olumide Paul, 25, was convicted and sentenced to 18 months in prison by a Federal High Court in Ilorin for offences bordering on internet fraud.

Olaleye was one of the suspects arrested on October 26, 2021, in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, after the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission received actionable intelligence about the activities of persons suspected of being fraudsters (EFCC).

Count two of the charge against him reads:
