There have been many rumors about Governor Ademola Adeleke’s political future because two senators from Osun State who were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
It had previously stated that, in separate letters dated June 21, 2025, Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) had resigned from the PDP, claiming “irreconcilable differences” within the party.
Both the PDP and APC camps in the state are tense after their departure because many think Adeleke will be the next to leave.

The news has sent the political world into a frenzy, particularly among APC candidates for governor, some of whom are publicly opposed to Adeleke joining the party.

Government operations in Osun have apparently come to a near standstill in recent weeks due to the knock-on effects of the continuous political unrest.

Vanguard claims that in response to the escalating rumors, Senator Iyiola Omisore, the former APC National Secretary and Deputy Governor of Osun State, cautioned Governor Adeleke against what he called an attempt to “join the APC through the backdoor.”

“Instead of going to some governor colleagues to smuggle him into the APC, the governor should speak to party leaders in the state,” Omisore stated. We party members are unsure if he will join us if neither the state chairman nor the national chairman are informed of his arrival.

Omisore emphasized the significance of appropriate political involvement and consultation, even if he acknowledged that no one can prevent Adeleke from joining the APC.

Oladele Oyelude, the Coordinator of the Tinubu-Shettima Ambassadors, on the other hand, publicly supported Adeleke’s purported plan to join the ruling party. He called the governor “a big addition,” whose support would help President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign.

“Party leaders, particularly those appointed by the president, should not be perceived as attempting to thwart Governor Adeleke’s attempt to join the APC. He remains popular with the public for the time being, which is very beneficial to the president and the party. We may discuss other interests after he joins the party, in my opinion,” he remarked.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s latest appointment announcements have been characterized by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a “desperate, cynical attempt to buy back the trust that he has spent over a year squandering, particularly in Northern Nigeria.”
The ADC criticized the alleged appointments as “too little, too late” in a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s national publicity secretary.
The party went on to say that Tinubu cannot ignore a region for more than 25 months and demand praise because “you suddenly remembered on the twenty-sixth month that Nigeria is bigger than Lagos State.”

The ADC says these appointments are merely “political panic management.”

It said that the nominations are a desperate attempt to cover up the severe injuries that Northern Nigeria has sustained from more than a year of deliberate neglect, presidential haughtiness, and unheard-of nepotism.

According to the statement: “This government ignored the bandits terrorizing northern villages, our farmers abandoning their land, and the collapse of rural economies due to the removal of poorly planned fuel subsidies for more than a year.”

Now, as public dissatisfaction grows and a strong opposition coalition gains momentum in the North and throughout the nation, President Tinubu is suddenly reminded that there are Nigerians to appoint to positions outside of Lagos.

From eliminating subsidies to making the majority of political appointments, this administration has made all of its significant decisions without consulting the North. The President is giving appointments as consolation prizes now that the repercussions of his choices are evident. However, Northerners are aware that they are co-owners of our wonderful federal republic and should not be fooled by these symbolic appointments. They recognize that President Tinubu’s acts are not sincere. Symbolism is not government, and tokenism is not inclusiveness.

With consultation, policy equity, and genuine federal character, the ADC called on the Tinubu administration to move away from what it called “Bourdillon-style appeasement politics” and toward true national inclusion.

“Press releases and photo ops can’t fix a broken roof. And by acting as though titles are a stand-in for a sincere dedication to nation-building, you’re not going to win back the public’s trust,” the party stated.

In advance of the August 16, 2025, National Assembly by-elections for the Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal Constituency, the Edo State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has vetted and approved candidates for its July 21st, 2025 party primary.

Joe Okojie, Friday Itulah, and John Yakubu have all been cleared for the Edo Central senatorial ticket.

Only Johnny Ikponmwosa Aikpitanyi was vetted and approved as the party’s lone candidate for the Ovia Federal Constituency seat.

However, the party did not approve Festus Edogun to run for the Edo Central Senatorial District ticket.

A five-member panel constituted by the PDP National Working Committee screened the candidates on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in the state party secretariat, which is situated at No. 20 Aiguobasimwin Street, GRA, Benin City.

Professor Okumoko Tubo Pearce serves as the committee’s chair, and Arc. Chinomso Odoemelan serves as its secretary. Evelyn Promise, David Omare, and Inemo Dede are among the other participants.

On Friday, July 18, 2025, in the Edo PDP Secretariat, committee members gave the candidates their certificates of clearance.

Following his clearing certificate, Johnny Ikponmwosa Aikpitanyi spoke on behalf of other candidates and praised committee members for their professionalism, effort, and fairness in carrying out their responsibilities.

“I want to sincerely thank members of the Screening Committee for their professionalism, fairness, and diligence in carrying out their duties,” he said. We are prepared for the upcoming work with this clearance. With the resounding support of our people, we will win and guarantee that our residents receive high-caliber, meaningful representation. I am more than ready to fly the PDP flag in Ovia.

“I am confident to win,” he reiterated. With my people’s help, we will work together to restore Ovia’s glory and make it even more radiant. We’ll prioritize community development and making Ovia the envy of everyone.

At the Presidential Villa in Abuja, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met behind closed doors on Friday with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State.
According to reports, the meeting is thought to be a component of larger consultations meant to improve federal-state relations and highlights the President’s ongoing interaction with important political figures and state executives.

Akpabio, a former state governor, and two other prominent local politicians accompanied Governor Eno, the head of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom, to the meeting.

Punch claims that although specifics of the meetings were not yet available, they may have focused on strengthening ties between Akwa Ibom State and the Federal Government as well as tackling matters of national importance.

Following the meeting, the three of them posed for pictures at the Villa, indicating a friendly and cooperative atmosphere.

The visit was confirmed by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga in a tweet on 𝕏, formerly known as Twitter.

“Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday,” Onanuga tweeted, referring to Governor Eno as the APC leader in his state. The APC leader in his state is Governor Eno.
