Tinubu’s N39bn ICC Project Cannot Be Justified – Deji Adeyanju

0

Nigerian lawyer cum Human Rights Activist, Deji Adeyanju, has characterized the staggering ₦39 billion spent on the restoration of the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre (ICC) as a swindle.
It was noted that in June, President Tinubu commissioned the ICC which was rebuilt by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The ICC, which was built in 1991 by the dictatorship of former Military President, Ibrahim Babangida, was renamed the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre after ₦39 billion was spent on its rehabilitation.

Wike, during a recent news conference, also claimed that the ICC is currently generating as much as ₦700 million after its reconstruction.

However, Adeyanju, in a post via 𝕏 on Sunday, July 20, 2025, lamented the purported terrible status of the ICC.

Adeyanju said he attended a birthday party at the facility and was horrified by the state of the area.

According to him, the air conditioners were not working and he is confident that even “₦5 billion was not put into the place for repairs.”

He added, “I attended the Seyi Vodi party yesterday at ICC and I felt so sorry for this country. The air conditioning was not working, and I am confident N5 billion was not put into the place for repairs. At most N3 bn was put in it. What happened at that place cannot be labeled anything else other than a scam.”

2027 Presidency: Southern PDP Candidate Hunt in Progress — Bode George

Amidst rising tensions over the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) zoning arrangement ahead of the 2027 elections, party chieftain and former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Bode George, has acknowledged that deliberate attempts are underway to obtain a southern presidential candidate.

George disclosed in an interview that the party is discreetly forming a consensus around respectable southern figures who can fly the PDP flag against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
According to reports, George claimed that the process of selecting a southerner as the party’s presidential flagbearer is underway.

“In politics, there is no shut-down. We’re heading to a meeting this week, a make-or-break meeting if you will.

While George and other Southern PDP officials urge for relocating the presidential ticket to the South, some National Executive Committee members remain opposed, stating that the party should prioritize electability and internal unity over regional concerns.

George acknowledged the zoning differences, but emphasized the necessity of secrecy and smart timing in identifying viable candidates.

He stated, “Arrangements are already in progress, and there are several reputable, responsible persons of good reputation who have been tried and verified.

“But it’s too early to start tossing names about. If you do that now, you’re asking for trouble.”

The development comes as the PDP deals with a chaotic internal environment with the exit of former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and the creation of a new opposition group under the African Democratic Congress.

Okanga Delivers Again for Ijigban: A Day of Love, Laughter, and Generosity

Joy and celebration swept across Ijigban as Okanga once again delivered in grand style for his people. The community came alive with vibrant performances from local rappers, generous cash gifts, and plenty of food, creating a festive atmosphere that left no one behind.

The love between Okanga and the people of Ijigban was evident in every corner. “Ijigban loves Okanga, and Okanga loves Ijigban,” became the anthem of the day, echoing the unbreakable bond between the beloved figure and his community.

Standing firmly behind this impactful initiative was Dr. Hon. Chief Philip Agbese, the respected member of the House of Representatives representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency. His continued support and encouragement have helped strengthen grassroots empowerment efforts like this one. Dr. Agbese’s influence and leadership remain a pillar of progress in the Benue South region.

The Okanga Sisters were visibly emotional, overwhelmed by the love shown to their brother. “We are proud and deeply moved by what we witnessed today,” one of them said.

Once again, Okanga’s commitment—backed by the visionary leadership of Dr. Philip Agbese—proves that when leaders remember their roots, communities flourish.

What Peter Obi Should Do If Okpebholo Fails to Withdraw Illegal Threat – Femi Falana

The governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has been requested by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana to revoke the threat against Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP).
During a public event on Friday, Okphebolo reminded everyone that Peter Obi should not travel to Edo without first obtaining security clearance because of the violence that allegedly followed the former governor of Anambra State’s most recent visit to the state.
The man who claims to have no “shishi” came and gave N15 million, he said. How did he obtain it? Three were murdered after he left. Obi should not enter Edo without a security clearance because of this.

But in a statement issued on Sunday, Falana denounced Okpebholo’s remarks, claiming that they were against the 1999 Constitution.

If Okpebholo doesn’t take back the unlawful threat, Peter Obi should go ahead and apply to the Federal High Court’s Benin Judicial Division to have his fundamental right to life upheld, according to the human rights attorney.

The “new sheriff in town” in Edo State threatened Mr. Peter Obi’s life, he said, in violation of both article 4 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples (Ratification and Enforcement) and section 33 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 Constitution as amended, which guarantees every citizen the fundamental right to life.

Given that the Constitution’s section 14(2)(b) states that the security and well-being of the populace must be the top priority of government, Governor Okpebholo need to revoke the threat, publicly apologize to Mr. Peter Obi, and guarantee his safety in Edo State.

But if Governor Okpebholo doesn’t back down from the unlawful threat due to his haughtiness, Mr. Peter Obi ought to go ahead and apply to the Federal High Court’s Benin Judicial Division to have his fundamental right to life upheld. Given the frequency of extrajudicial killings and mob justice in the nation, Mr. Obi ought to take immediate action.

Constitution Review: Bayelsa Pushes for More LGAs, State Police, Electoral and Judicial Overhaul

In addition to the eight local government units that already exist in the state, Bayelsa State has requested the establishment of 25 more.

The establishment of state police, electoral and judicial reforms, and fiscal federalism were among proposals put up by the state.
At the current public hearing of the House of Representatives’ Committee on the Review of the 1999 constitution, which is being held by the South South Centre A (which includes Bayelsa, Delta, and Edo) at the DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa on Saturday, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Biriyai Dambo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, gave the state’s position.
Since the current local government regions were overcrowded, with some having more than 150 communities, Mr. Dambo claimed that the state needed to establish new councils.

Additionally, the state argued that it had the financial means to support the planned councils, which were established by the House of Assembly in accordance with Section 8(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as modified).
By suggesting that the nation be reorganized according to the ideas of fiscal federalism, Bayelsa proposed that all natural resources, both on and off the coast of the federating states, be fully controlled and that the federal government receive 40% of tax revenue while the states keep 60% of the money generated by their resources.

The establishment of state police, according to the state, will improve states’ ability to combat crime and maintain proper security.

Nigeria was ready for state policing, it was added, and the movement for state police was in line with true federalism.

Reviewing the local government system and autonomy, reviewing the legislative and exclusive lists, strengthening the Independent National Electoral Commission through electoral changes, and implementing judicial reforms were all equally important components of the state’s stance.

The fundamental right of the people to modify the constitution that established their government is the cornerstone of every strong democracy, according to remarks made earlier by Senator Douye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State.

A review, he said, guarantees that the constitution is not a static document but rather a living tool that changes to meet the evolving needs and goals of the people.

“Really just, equitable, responsive, and demonstrably dedicated to the holistic development of not just the state or the Niger Delta region but also the Nigerian federation,” Governor Diri emphasized, was the core of Bayelsa State’s demands: a strong commitment to the establishment of a federal system and structure.

In addition, he said that the people of Bayelsa wanted “historical injustices related to the inequitable allocation of resources, alongside the glaring disparities in the creation and distribution of local government areas fixed.”

Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori was represented at the occasion by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, while Attorney General Samson Osagie represented his counterpart, Senator Monday Okpebolo.

Both governors endorsed the constitution review exercise, claiming it would fix the existing constitution’s shortcomings and close its gaps.

They also pointed out how contentious the 1999 constitution had grown.

Moreover, the South South Center chairman Prior to being presented on the House floor, each document would undergo a thorough assessment and presentation to the entire Constitution assessment Committee, according to Prof. Julius Ihonvbere, the House of Representatives’ majority leader and a committee member.

According to Ihonvbere, the involvement of stakeholders would improve Nigeria and make it more democratic and inclusive of all people.

Representatives from the state, including Dr. Fred Agbedi (Sagbama/Ekeremor Federal Constituency), Mrs. Marie Ebikake (Nembe/Brass), Dr. Mitema Obordor (Ogbia), and Rodney Ambaiowei (Southern Ijaw), as well as Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere and his Delta State counterpart Emomotimi Guwor, were in attendance.

The Amanyanabo of Twon-Brass, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, King Bubaraye Dakolo, the chairman of the state council of traditional rulers, and other dignitaries from Bayelsa, Delta, and Edo states were also in attendance.

Saudi Prince passed away after spending 20 years in coma

Following a catastrophic vehicle accident in London, Prince Al Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, 36, the Saudi royal known as the “Sleeping Prince,” passed away after spending 20 years in a coma.
Earlier today, July 19, his father, Prince Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, wrote a moving message on 𝕏 announcing the devastating news.
“We mourn our beloved son, Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, who passed away today, with deep sorrow and sadness, and with hearts believing in Allah’s will and decree,” he wrote.

While studying as a military cadet in the UK, Prince Al Waleed was involved in an accident that left him with severe brain trauma and internal bleeding, which caused him to go into a coma at the age of 15.

His family stayed optimistic and refused to remove him from life support, keeping a careful eye on him for nearly 20 years in spite of the physicians’ pessimistic predictions.

The kingdom was briefly given hope in 2020 when a video appeared that appeared to show the prince moving his fingers slightly in response to a voice. This gave the country and his family optimism that he may recover.

Princess Noura bint Talal Al Saud posted the video, which showed a woman at the prince’s bedside urging him, “Habibi, hello.” Hi, hi, let me check.

The first and only indication of consciousness he had shown in years was a small movement of his hand in response.

But that glimmering hope of recuperation never materialized.

The Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh will host funeral prayers for the late prince on Sunday.

According to local reports, following Dhuhr prayers, a special women’s prayer service would be held at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital. There will be a three-day period of mourning till Tuesday.

Mandela Day: UNA-Nigeria Reiterates Call for Justice and Equity

The United Nations Association of Nigeria (UNA-Nigeria) has urged people, organizations, and leaders throughout the country to embrace the spirit of Nelson Mandela International Day by taking intentional actions to fight poverty and injustice in remembrance of one of the most revered human rights icons in the world.

Nelson Mandela’s birthday, July 18, is celebrated worldwide as a time to consider his timeless principles of justice, compassion, freedom, and dignity.

This year’s theme, “It’s Still in Our Hands to Combat Poverty and Inequity,” emphasized the pressing need for reinvigorated civic action in an era of widening global imbalances, according to UNA-Nigeria.

Therefore, UNA-Nigeria President Professor Oluremi Olutimo asked Nigerians to embrace Mandela’s legacy via meaningful action and go beyond ceremonial tributes.

“Nelson Mandela International Day is a clear call for all of us, as Nigerians and global citizens, to take responsibility for building a society grounded in fairness and empathy—it is not just a memorial of a great man,” Olutimo said.

Communities all around Nigeria struggle on a daily basis with enduring problems like youth unemployment, inadequate healthcare access, social isolation, and educational opportunity inequalities. UNA-Nigeria claims that Mandela’s life and values provide both a challenge to respond—not merely with admiration, but with brave action—and a ray of hope.

Professor Olutimo emphasized that the day should encourage a dedication to the most marginalized members of society, calling on people, private businesses, civil society organizations, and governmental organizations to embrace Mandela’s philosophy of justice and service. “We have to get past slogans and speeches. “It’s time to take deliberate action to improve the lives of those who are disadvantaged and infuse dignity into all facets of our society,” he declared.

The Association’s request is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which UNA-Nigeria is still an advocate for. The SDGs tackle a wide range of issues, including promoting peace and inclusive societies (SDG16), increasing education (SDG4), and ending poverty (SDG1)—all of which are fundamental components of Mandela’s ongoing work.

Drawing on Mandela’s statement that “it is not the fact that we have lived that counts in life,” Professor Olutimo stated, “each of us has a role to play in our neighborhoods, schools, markets, and offices.” It is the impact we have had on other people’s lives.

UNA-Nigeria urged for renewed grassroots initiatives, especially those that involve underprivileged groups and youth. “Youth civic participation and volunteerism are crucial. We learn from Mandela’s legacy that significant change starts from the very beginning,” Olutimo continued.

The Association feels that Mandela Day is a timely chance to ignite change through coordinated social action in light of Nigeria’s complex development demands. UNA-Nigeria promoted using the day as a springboard for community empowerment projects, educational programs, and policy-driven cooperation between local and national institutions rather than restricting its commemoration to ceremonial hoopla.

The head of UNA-Nigeria also urged all Nigerians to turn Mandela Day from a commemoration into a movement. “Let this day inspire a fresh dedication to humanity.” Let Nigeria become a shining example of justice and development. Because we still have it.

Olutimo emphasized that every Nigeria must follow the road of equity and dignity as the nations of the world commemorated Mandela Day 2025.

Head coach Nora Häuptle of the Copper Queens of Zambia has publicly acknowledged that her team was surpassed by the Nigerian Super Falcons.
According to reports, on Friday night, July 18, the Super Falcons defeated the Zambian women’s team 5-0 in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) quarterfinal.
Following the defeat in Casablanca’s Larbi Zaouli Stadium, the Swiss tactician acknowledged that the two teams’ talent differences were significant.

We suffered a very obvious loss. Kudos to Nigeria for their well-earned triumph. We have to acknowledge that Nigeria was superior than us today, Häuptle said.

After a solid group-stage performance and a lot of pre-match excitement, the Zambian team entered the match feeling confident, however they failed to score a single goal during the game.

However, the Super Falcons were merciless, scoring three goals in the first half alone thanks to Osinachi Ohale, Esther Okoronkwo, and Chiwendu Ihezuo. Tosin Demehin and Folashade Ijamilusi added two more goals after the half.

Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu took the opportunity to consider his team’s development and the effort that had gone into the win, while Zambia’s coach admitted loss.

“As we previously stated, it’s a work in progress,” Madugu added. We concentrated on improving our finishing, final passes, service delivery, and other areas of weakness. We witnessed the outcomes today.

Before the quarterfinal matchup, the Super Falcons appeared to be far from dominant and only managed four goals in the group stage. However, the performance on Friday night seemed to be the result of a carefully thought-out improvement.

The Super Falcons will play the winner of the South Africa vs. Senegal game in the semi-finals. That game is set for tonight, July 19, at 8 p.m.

Shehu Sani Warns Peter Obi Against Political Distraction – “Stick with Labour Party”

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, has been advised to stay in the Labour Party (LP) by Shehu Sani, a former federal legislator.
Keep in mind that Obi was the Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate.
Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Atiku Abubakar, who ran on the platforms of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), respectively, he finished third.

But since the last election, the Labour Party has seen a number of internal problems, with two groups vying for control of the organization.

After the leadership contest, Obi has been at the center of conversations about the party’s future.

In spite of these obstacles, Obi has remained in the LP and distanced himself from recent rumors that he would join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a member of an opposition alliance in the run-up to the general elections in 2027.

Peter Obi’s Birthday Advice From Shehu Sani
Sani, a former senator from Kaduna State, joined the host of Nigerians in celebrating Obi’s 64th birthday on Saturday (today) and suggested that the former governor think about remaining in the Labour Party.

“To Mr. Peter Obi, happy birthday. Hold your labor, I say; you know it’s the Devil. On his official 𝕏 Twitter, Sani stated, “Don’t chase two rabbits at the same time,” advising Obi to refrain from changing platforms in light of the current political unpredictability.

Adeleke’s Future in PDP Uncertain as Osun Senators Join APC

There have been many rumors about Governor Ademola Adeleke’s political future because two senators from Osun State who were elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
It had previously stated that, in separate letters dated June 21, 2025, Senators Francis Fadahunsi (Osun East) and Olubiyi Fadeyi (Osun Central) had resigned from the PDP, claiming “irreconcilable differences” within the party.
Both the PDP and APC camps in the state are tense after their departure because many think Adeleke will be the next to leave.

The news has sent the political world into a frenzy, particularly among APC candidates for governor, some of whom are publicly opposed to Adeleke joining the party.

Government operations in Osun have apparently come to a near standstill in recent weeks due to the knock-on effects of the continuous political unrest.

Vanguard claims that in response to the escalating rumors, Senator Iyiola Omisore, the former APC National Secretary and Deputy Governor of Osun State, cautioned Governor Adeleke against what he called an attempt to “join the APC through the backdoor.”

“Instead of going to some governor colleagues to smuggle him into the APC, the governor should speak to party leaders in the state,” Omisore stated. We party members are unsure if he will join us if neither the state chairman nor the national chairman are informed of his arrival.

Omisore emphasized the significance of appropriate political involvement and consultation, even if he acknowledged that no one can prevent Adeleke from joining the APC.

Oladele Oyelude, the Coordinator of the Tinubu-Shettima Ambassadors, on the other hand, publicly supported Adeleke’s purported plan to join the ruling party. He called the governor “a big addition,” whose support would help President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection campaign.

“Party leaders, particularly those appointed by the president, should not be perceived as attempting to thwart Governor Adeleke’s attempt to join the APC. He remains popular with the public for the time being, which is very beneficial to the president and the party. We may discuss other interests after he joins the party, in my opinion,” he remarked.
