Matawalle: Stop Intimidating PDP Members To Join APC

0

Iyorwuese Hagher, a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party and chairman of the Bukola Saraki Presidential Contact and Advocacy Committee, has urged Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle to cease threatening PDP members in the state for refusing to join the All Progressives Congress.

“People cannot be dominated by force,” said Iyorwuese, who was in Gusau, the state capital, on Tuesday for a contact and advocacy visit in support of Saraki’s presidential bid.

“The fact is that you cannot dominate people by force, intimidation, or extortion,” he said.

“In a democracy, you can’t use intimidation to force people to join your party.” This is essentially what the APC-led administration in Zamfara is doing.”

“We are aware that the APC government attempted three times to demolish the PDP headquarters in Zamfara because the deputy governor did not decamp with the governor to the APC.”

He slammed the expulsion of Mahdi Gusau, the Deputy Governor, from office, calling it an abuse of the judicial system.
“The flagrant misuse of due process and the ludicrous level to which they wish to weaken this country’s judiciary is unacceptable to the Nigerian people,” he stated.

According to him, the country was dissatisfied with the deputy governor’s departure, and Nigerians stood for the Zamfara people.

2023: PDP’ll end APC’s economic hardship on Nigerians, says Wike

0

Nyesom Wike, the Governor of Rivers State, has stated that the Peoples Democratic Party will end the economic hardships imposed on Nigerians by the APC-led Federal Government.

This comes as he urged Nigerians to show that they are sick of the APC’s bad leadership style by voting them out of office in 2023 using their voter’s card.

He claims that the APC is doomed to fail because it lacks the quality of productive good governance in its kitten.

On Wednesday, Wike spoke at the inauguration of the 3.5-kilometer Mgbuoshimini-Nkpor Road in Rumuolumeni, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Rivers State.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Kelvin Ebiri, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity.

“The election will be free in 2023 if this crowd that has gathered here does so.” You, too, are a part of the bad government if you do nothing to change it.

“So, use your voter’s card to throw out this federal government that has killed Nigeria and spread hunger and poverty throughout the country.”

“People are unemployed, and there is a failed economic policy.” But, by God’s grace, the PDP will be able to change all of this,” Wike stated.

The Governor stated that because the APC cannot give what it does not have, the PDP is preparing to lead a national infrastructure delivery revolution that will begin in 2023.

He promised that the leadership in place at that time would not make excuses, but would be dedicated to growing the country’s economy and restoring hope and meaningful living.

“The commissioning of projects can only be seen in PDP states.” While the other (APC) governors meet with their president to decide whether or not to hold convention, we are working on projects after projects.

“So, when the PDP takes power in 2023, Nigeria will witness that.” Infrastructure will undergo a revolution. There will be no room for excuses. The APC administration has nothing to offer. “They say you can’t give what you don’t have,” he explained.

The Governor stated that voters should always hold politicians accountable to their promises if they fail to use the opportunity to serve the public good that has been provided to them.

President Muhammadu Buhari has been charged by Kanayo O Kanayo, a popular Nigerian actor, to free Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
In a video posted on his Instagram account to commemorate his 60th birthday, the actor pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari.

In his message to the president, Kanayo expressed his sorrow over the deaths and insecurity in the country.

After referring to Kanu as Buhari’s son, the actor urged the president to use his executive powers to free him.

He penned,

“My dear president and father of the nation, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, commander in chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I hope this message meets you well sir? My name is Kanayo O. Kanayo, I’m an actor and a lawyer, and I hold a national honour as a member of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Sir, on this occasion of my 60th birthday, I want to make an appeal to you as a son and a patriotic citizen whose industry contributes meaningfully to the Nation’s GDP.

“I’m deeply pained by the loss of lives, wanton killings and general insecurity in the land.

“You’re the father of the nation with numerous sons and daughters including Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Sir, the bulk stops at your table, I know and appreciate that Nnamdi Kanu’s case is before the court and you usually do not like to interfere with court cases but at this stage of heightened tension, you are a president with executive powers.

“My appeal sir, Biko (Please)release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, it is my 60th birthday appeal. Thank you, sir.”

Breaking: Invasion of Russia: Chelsea Owner Roman Abramovich Confirms Decision To Sell Football Club, Takes Steps To Assist Ukraine War Victims

Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea, has put to rest rumors about his plans for the English Premier League club.

In a statement posted on the club’s website on Wednesday, Abramovich stated that he has decided to sell the club.

Due to his alleged ties with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the 55-year-old Russian oligarch has been in the spotlight.

During a recent broadcast, US President Joe Biden promised that the West would seize everything belonging to Russian oligarchs, including their apartments.

Despite Abramovich’s denials of any ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, calls for his sanction continue to grow louder.

However, Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss previously revealed that Abramovich had contacted him to see if he wanted to buy the club for more than £2 billion.

“I would like to address the speculation in the media over the past few days in relation to my ownership of Chelsea FC,” Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich said in a statement.

“As I’ve previously stated, I’ve always made decisions with the Club’s best interests in mind. In the current situation, I have decided to sell the Club because I believe it is in the best interests of the Club, its fans, employees, sponsors, and partners.

“The sale of the Club will not be rushed, but will be conducted in accordance with the law. I’m not going to ask for any loans to be repaid. For me, it’s never been about the money or the business; it’s always been about my love for the game and the club.

“In addition, I’ve directed my team to establish a charitable foundation to which the sale’s net proceeds will be donated.”

“Please understand that this has been a very difficult decision for me to make, and I regret having to part ways with the Club in this way. However, I believe this is in the Club’s best interests.

“I hope to be able to pay one last visit to Stamford Bridge to say goodbye to all of you in person.” Being a part of Chelsea FC has been a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I am proud of all of our accomplishments together. United Nations seeks $1.7 billion humanitarian fund for Ukrainian refugees

0

The United Nations (UN) has launched a fundraising campaign to raise $1.7 billion in order to help refugees fleeing Ukraine.

Since the Russian military onslaught began, rockets have been “raining down” on Ukraine’s cities, and hundreds of people have been killed or injured, according to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who said this on Tuesday during the inauguration of the flash appeal.
According to the most recent UN figures, 677,000 individuals have fled Ukraine since February 24.

“UN agencies and our partners are now working 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assess humanitarian needs and scale up help, notably for women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities,” he said.

Guterres, on the other hand, praised Member States for keeping their borders open to individuals escaping conflict.

“We must assist Ukrainians in assisting one other through this dreadful moment,” the UN chief said, noting that electricity and water supplies had been affected, roads had been “damaged or destroyed by bombs,” and food and medicine were in short supply in certain locations.

The goal of the demand for immediate humanitarian funding, according to UN emergency assistance head Martin Griffiths in Geneva, was to support individuals inside Ukraine, including internally displaced people and those seeking sanctuary beyond the country’s boundaries.

Because the growing violence has produced an immediate and significant spike in demand for lifesaving aid, an estimated $1.1 billion is needed for the response inside Ukraine for three months to help six million of the most vulnerable in Ukraine.

However, as residents escape for their lives, crucial supplies and services are disrupted.
Griffiths revealed at the end of the launch ceremony in Geneva that $1.5 billion had been pledged for the humanitarian appeals.

Stephane Dujarric, the UN Spokesperson, praised the “outpouring of support.”

“This is among the fastest and most generous contributions a humanitarian flash appeal has ever received,” Dujarric told media in New York.

Filippo Grandi, the High Commissioner for Refugees, also requested $550 million for the refugee agency and 12 partner organisations.

He mentioned that the Ukraine crisis had displaced 520,000 people as recently as last night.

Grandi stated that this had already escalated dramatically in a few of hours.

“In the last six days, 677,000 migrants have fled Ukraine to neighboring nations.” In less than 24 hours, that’s an additional 150,000 people,” he remarked.

In the next months, the UN anticipates that 12 million people inside Ukraine would require aid and protection, while over four million refugees will require protection and help in neighboring countries.

In response to claims that third-country refugees have been mistreated at border crossings and within Ukraine while attempting to seek asylum, the UN refugee chief stated that “there should be absolutely no discrimination between Ukrainians and non-Ukrainians.”

“There are both Europeans and non-Europeans.” “Everyone is running away from the same dangers,” he added.

While the European Union is debating whether to grant Ukrainian migrants temporary protection status, the tragedy is “likely to add a new dimension to the many years of debate on asylum status, responsibility sharing, and so on,” according to Grandi.

UNHCR, the UN’s refugee agency, has already received more than $40 million in private donations from individuals and businesses, a “unprecedented” performance, he said. “I’ve never seen anything like that, and I believe it’s a good thing,” he added.

Court sentences 39-year-old to life imprisonment for killing his father in Akwa Ibom

A judge in the Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo, the state capital, has sentenced one Effiong Philip, a 39-year-old bricklayer from Mbiakpan Atan in the Ibiono Ibom Local Government Council, to life in jail for murdering his 68-year-old father.

According to the presiding judge, Justice Bassey Nkanang, the offender beat his father to death over the accusation that he was a wizard and was to blame for his wife’s inability to conceive.

In a charge of murder filed by the State against Monday Effiong Philip, the prosecution stated that the defendant “delivered fist blows to his father and pushed him, whereupon he is reported to have fallen down” on May 27, 2017, in response to his wife’s complaint against her father-in-law.

Even when a neighbor moved the victim into his room, the convict shut the door to his father’s room and returned the next day with a patent medicine salesman, only to find his father dead in the room, according to the prosecution.

In an hour-long ruling, Justice Nkanang held that the convict’s invitation of the patent medicine merchant showed that, despite the unreasonable and unlawful assault on his father, he had no intention of killing him and had no knowledge that death would be a likely result of his actions.

“Whereas the accused person’s deed resulted in the deceased’s death, the six circumstances set out in section 3, 2, 3 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Akwa Ibom State, which define what constitutes murder, appear to be absent in the full scenario of the case,” the court said.

“The Court’s position, on the extent to which evidence at trial has established the three ingredients of murder, is that the deceased is dead and the accused person’s act is responsible for the death, but there is insufficient evidence to prove the third mandatory ingredient in a charge of murder,” Justice Nkanang added.

The Court stated, “The position of the law is that the particulars of the smaller offense must be capable of being subsumed in the original accusation, such that the lower offense may be cut out from the particulars of the original charge, which was murder.”

“It is this statute that equips the trial court with the power to convict for a lower violation, when the ingredients of the said lesser offense are contained in the aggravated charge and found proved,” Justice Nkanang explained.

The court ruled in favor of the prosecution and found Monday Effiong Akpan guilty of manslaughter and sentenced him to life in prison.

The offender, who is a father of one, begged with the Court for leniency, claiming that he is his father’s only child.
