The hoodlums, according to Sani, deserve jungle justice, as he wrote on Twitter.

He stated that the bandits should not be considered as friends, and that their heinous deeds should not be taken lightly because they pose a threat to the country’s survival.
“The most deadly terrorists in Nigeria today are Turji, Gide, and Manjagara, and they are all members of our Fulani ethnic group, killing, rapping, kidnapping people, and torching villages,” the ex-lawmaker wrote.

“They are evil men, and those who pamper or cover up for them are as evil.” Their crimes are inexcusable.”

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo (SAN) remarked on Friday that Oba Olalekan Balogun is fully equipped for his new duty as the Olubadan of Ibadan, as the city’s supreme traditional ruler.

The VP further stated that the city of Ibadan is known for its many firsts, which spans the Yoruba people’s rich culture and the politics of the South-West area.

This was said by Osinbajo during his remarks at the coronation of Oba Balogun as the new Olubadan of Ibadan on Friday.

After Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, presented the new Olubadan with the staff of office, the Vice President urged the Oba to remain diligent in carrying out the duties and responsibilities bestowed upon him, noting that “the privilege of your ascension to the throne of your fathers now places upon your shoulders a heavy obligation of history.”

According to a statement released by the Vice President’s spokesman, Laolu Akande, captioned “Why Ibadan remains the city of many firsts, Osinbajo says during the coronation of the 42nd Olubadan,”

While congratulating the new monarch on his coronation, Osinbajo reassured the people of Ibadan that the Olubadan possesses all of the necessary qualities to carry out the throne’s responsibilities, saying, “your shoulders are broad and sturdy as you come into this office better prepared than probably any monarch anywhere.”

“Everything in your amazing life and times has inexorably led to this auspicious day of your crowning as the Olubadan of Ibadan,” he remarked. And will be a valuable asset to you on the throne.”

APC’s Crisis Worsens As INEC Rejects Notice Of Party’s NEC Meeting

0

The crisis in the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a fresh turn after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) denied the party’s National Executive Committee’s request for an emergency meeting (NEC).

In a letter dated March 9, 2022, and written to the party’s ‘national chairperson,’ INEC secretary Rose Oriaran-Anthony affirmed the commission’s decision.

“The commission wishes to bring your attention to the fact that the meeting notice was not signed by the CECPC’s National Chairman and National Secretary, in violation of Article 1.1.3 of the Commission’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Party Operations (2018),” Oriaran-Anthony said.

The letter was written in response to a request made by the party in an earlier letter dated March 8, 2022 and marked APC/NHDQ/INEC/019/022/32.

The letter was apparently written by Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State, who just assumed leadership of the party.

He had asked the commission to attend an emergency meeting of the APC National Executive Committee ahead of the party’s upcoming national convention.

However, INEC rejected the invitation, stating that the letter should have been signed by the national chairman and secretary of the APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC).

According to the Electoral Act, every convention, congress, conference, or meeting for such purposes must be provided at least 21 days’ notice to the electoral umpire.

“Furthermore, the APC is reminded of Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which requires “at least 21 days’ notice of any convention, congress, conference, or meeting convened for the purpose of’merger’ and electing members of its executive committees, other governing bodies, or nominating candidates for any elective offices,” according to Oriaran-Anthony.

“Please accept the assurance of the commissions’ kind greetings while hope that these issues be recognized for compliance.”

Three weeks before the CECPC’s national convention on March 26, rumours surfaced that Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State had been fired as the party’s head.

In the wake of the reports, Governor Bello presided over a CECPC meeting on Monday at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.

He told reporters at the end of the meeting that he has taken over as the party’s interim chairman, claiming that he has the support of President Muhammadu Buhari and other APC leaders.

A stampede in Shimfida village, Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State, has claimed the lives of seven children and injured several more.

According to sources, the dread of a terrorist strike threw inhabitants into a frenzy, resulting in the deaths.

Although the incident has yet to be confirmed by the authorities, a local resident, Abdulrazak Ahmad, told Channels Television that the tragedy occurred late Thursday after soldiers operating in a joint security task force were completely evacuated and withdrew from the village.

The retreating soldiers were initially stationed at the Shimfida Government Secondary School, around 27 kilometers from Jibia town, he claimed.

However, as soon as it was confirmed that the military would be making a non-return trip, residents became concerned, with many assuming that terrorists would strike because the hamlet had become unprotected.

With this in mind, locals began to pack their possessions, some waiting for the first sign of an attack before leaving, while others began evacuating their homes to seek sanctuary elsewhere.

Unfortunately, the gunmen stormed the hamlet as soon as the locals closed their eyes to sleep, firing indiscriminately and capturing several of the villagers.

The victims have subsequently been buried according to Islamic customs, according to Ahmad, who believes that the military’ retreat allowed terrorists to enter the area.

The police and other security services have yet to make any formal announcements about the situation.

Despite the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the country’s routine immunisation has continued to progress, according to the National Primary HealthCare Development Agency (NPHCDA).

The Executive Director, Dr. Faisal Shuaib, said the agency was able to achieve an excellent performance in the many problems thanks to the devotion and hard work of the workforce, speaking at the 2021 Productivity Award/Sendforth ceremony held in Abuja on Thursday.

Shuaib, who took advantage of the opportunity to assess the situation regarding the country’s immunisation campaign, stated that the exercise has continued to advance.

“Despite the COVID-19 pandemic’s impact, our routine immunization rate has continued to climb from 33% to 71 percent and 63 percent, and we will keep continuing,” he stated.

While commending the staff, Shuaib said: “One thing that all of these guys have thought me is the value of working together, appreciating people. Sometimes in the work that we do, I know that I like to get results and I drive people to produce this results and sometimes in the middle of the of the night, I wonder if I ever take enough steps back to say thank you for the incredible work that you are doing. Today, I want to say thank you very much.

“When COVID-19 hit Nigeria and we started the vaccination programme, and I showed you that one of the lowest point was when we were invited to the national assembly and a number of legislators told me to my face that NPHCDA does not have the capacity to deliver COVID-19 vaccination.

Group Alleges Connivance Between NNPC, NMDPRA In Recent Fuel Crisis

President Muhammadu Buhari has been called by a coalition of civil society organizations to sack the leaders of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA, and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

The CSOs claimed collusion between NMDPRA and the NNPC in the persisting gasoline crisis at a news conference organized by the Youths Arise For Undiluted Leadership and Development Initiative, YAULDI, warning that their activities contradict the spirit of the Petroleum Industry Act.

The CSOs also urged President Buhari to intervene in the country’s persistent fuel issue, claiming that utilizing pensioners from one organization to function as regulators in another does not bode well for Nigeria.

On behalf of the coalition, Akarame Lucky and Ifunanya Ogboma issued a statement warning that a sector regulator should be “strong, proactive, assiduous, and protective of public interest,” as the NMDPRA was not during the recent fuel crisis.

The organization demanded that the President form an Independent Panel of Inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the NNPC’s and its contractors’ importation of tainted petroleum into the country.

It argued that the NNPC retains responsible for importing petrol into the country under the Petroleum Industry Act, as well as sole culpability for any violations of the process of carrying out that statutory obligation.

“The NNPC’s GMD has provided no rational explanation, no feasible remedy to the ongoing scarcity, and has appeared completely befuddled.” These situations frequently lead to a loss of trust in government.

“It is now a matter of national security and overriding public interest for the Minister of State for Petroleum, Timipre Sylva; the GMD of NNPC and CEO of NMDPRA (Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency) to present the findings of their investigations into the importation of adulterated petroleum products to the public.”

“Brittania-U, AY Mai Kifi, Emmadeb, and Hide-Energy, the four organizations previously named, have all denied any wrongdoing. So, who brought the tainted gasoline into Nigeria? Who was the one to certify its quality? Why is the downstream regulator acting so rashly and ineptly?

“It is unacceptable for the head of a public regulator in charge of a sensitive sector of the economy to be jetting around the world while our citizens suffer so much as a result of the regulator’s abdication of its statutory responsibilities,” the group said.

NURTW Members In Ekiti Attack  Colleague For Supporting APC Guber Candidate

On Wednesday, Omoleye Olajide Johnson, the former treasurer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, in Ekiti State, was beaten and brutalized by some commercial drivers loyal to the union’s state chairman, Osho Farotimi.

Against the wishes of the chairman known as Oshopolo, Johnson had branded his car in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Hon. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji.

Farotimi had openly campaigned for the APC candidate, and his union’s members were required to display BAO banners on their vehicles.

Farotimi and his former treasurer had been at odds since their inception, according to reports, before the treasurer was driven out of the system.

The NURTW chairman is said to see his former EXCO member’s support for BAO as a danger to his bid for a second term in power, thus the need to stop him.

“On Wednesday, I was traveling through Tosin Aluko motor park with a BAO branded car when some vehicles abruptly stopped me and removed all the branded paper,” Johnson narrated his incident.

“They started beating me and put significant wounds on me, including both eyes; they told me I had no chance in the BAO government and that I should join Segun Oni’s SDP.”

“Dotun Olufimo, Odunayo Afolabi, Ojo Omotosho Oluwaseun, Femi Ogunlusi, Apoewa, and Sunday Boboye were among those who attacked me.”

He begged the government and security forces to act and bring all of the perpetrators to justice.

Farotimi refuted the allegations when reached.

“Since my inauguration, neither of us has spoken; I have no idea where or how he got himself into such a problem; I am innocent,” he stated.

Akeredolu: Yahoo plus governors and the rule of law

0

By Idoko Ainoko

I was surprised sometime back when the governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, made a strong case for the legalization of cannabis in the country, but not anymore. The recent events in the state and his public utterances indeed justified my new position.

We all know some of the effects of acute consumption of cannabis, and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu might be exhibiting some of these symptoms. I say this after stumbling on a supposed press statement credited to him regarding that supposed change of guards in the leadership of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The press statement was not only comical; it further heightened the popular notion that some governors in the country are patrons of cannabis, hence why tangible development has continued to elude us.

He sounded like a drunk who suddenly woke up from the gutter after a long drinking spell in the press statement. He was neither here nor there, and one could hardly place a finger on the message he was trying to pass across. The fact that he gave out the identity of those demigods within the APC that wanted Governor Mai Mala Buni out by all means necessary is not just despicable; it reinforces the belief that some deplorable individuals rode on the wings of the APC to position themselves as progressives, while in truth they are detractors.

It is funny that he bears the title of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), and yet he made some uncomplimentary remarks about the judiciary. It is also funny that he described some of his fellow governors as yahoo yahoo governors trying to secure a black market judgment.

This is the beauty of the truth. Maybe as the lawyer, he claimed to be, his years of practice have been characterized by yahoo enterprise and not competence. It is, therefore, not surprising that such an individual that can be termed a yahoo patron could easily identify the yahoo tendencies.

In his words: “Succinctly, aside from feeling delighted as a major stakeholder in the latest successful Rescue Mission, I express my confidence in the ability and capacity of Governor Sanni Bello(ABU LOLO) to take APC through. We, the Governors, are for the party except for the few “Yahoo, Yahoo” Governors (apologies to Salihu, former DG of the Progressive Governors’ Forum) who were hand in glove with Buni to circumvent the will of the majority of our Party (APC) members. Progressive Governors in the true name, mostly all of us, are determined to see our Party through these patchy parts at all cost.”

It is indeed the trajectory of foolery for Rotimi Akeredolu to assume that he is a progressive governor. I doubt if he understands the meaning of progressive. Maybe his definition of progressive is to plot coups to subvert the people’s will. Funny again that he confessed that he is a part of the governors under the Rescue Mission. Maybe he meant a coup mission. Again I can understand that he is always under the influence of cannabis that has altered his sense of judgment in deciphering between good and evil.

I can guess that his emphasis on the phrase “yahoo” is probably because that is his turf before he became governor and as governor. And as such, he tells all that cares to listen that what happened in the supposed change of leadership at the APC is a manifestation of “Yahoo Plus.”

If this is not the case, how could one possibly come to terms with how a group of governors in the blind pursuit for the soul of the party would throw caution in the wind and attempt to rubbish the laudable efforts of Governor Mai Mala Buni in repositioning the party after a tumultuous era that almost set the party on the path of extinction.

If after several months of efforts at pacifying warring factions within that party by Governor Mai Mala Buni is not appreciated, at least the fact that he is a fellow governor who agreed to stand in the gap for the party in times of need should be respected. Yes, it is understandable that political scheming is the order of the day in the buildup to the general elections in 2023, but that should not becloud our sense of reasoning.

Take it or leave it, what the likes of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his cohorts have succeeded in doing is a coup against democracy. As the Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee chairman, Governor Mai Mala Buni indeed ruffled feathers, but for the party’s interest. He stood his ground to ensure that the APC was well repositioned in preparation for the general elections in 2023.

And what did he get in return? He got betrayal and character assassination from some governor in the mould of Rotimi Akeredolu. They are constantly under the influence of cannabis and cheap alcohol. For them, it should be business as usual. Therefore Governor Mai Mala Buni must be shown the way out by all means possible.

What a shame that the President has been dragged into this despicable conduct by some APC governors with the blind and ignoble ambition to play politics, not minding whose ox is gored. It has been a regime of name dropping to the chagrin of all the APC as a party represents.

I think Governor Rotimi Akeredolu must reduce his cannabis addiction and come to terms with reality to advise himself and his co-travellers that their actions are nothing but a coup intended to serve their puerile interest. It’s funny that Governor Abubakar Bello is their preferred stooge to do their bidding, another coup expert that the good people of Niger state are contending with.

We are now aware that this move is not for the good of the party but that of some goons and baboons after the soul of the party. But they should do well to know that the world is watching as events unfold.

I wait earnestly to see what becomes of the APC after this coup. Governor Rotimi Akerdolu and his band of marauders should desist from this path of dishonour, for it is indeed a dance of shame. I make bold to say that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his cohorts are the “Pocket-filling Black Legs in Corridors of Power.”

Ainoko wrote this piece from Kaduna.
