APC Legal Team In Search Of Judges To Vacate Court Order Stopping March 26 Convention – Source

 

The Legal Committee of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) is reportedly shopping for ‘compromised judges’ to vacate a court order stopping its elective national convention that it had scheduled for March 26, 2022, a source told SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters gathered that a Bwari division of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in suit number FCT/HC/CV/2958/2021 had restrained the ruling party from holding its convention until a substantive suit has been heard and determined.

The suit, filed by one Salisu Umoru at the court had the APC, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Mai Mala Buni, governor of Yobe state and now-ousted chairman of the party as respondents.

“That the 1st Defendant/Respondent can only conduct its national convention after the hearing and determination of the substantive suit pending before this honourable court,” the court order seen by SaharaReporters reads.

“That in the interest of justice accelerated hearing of the substantive suit is hereby ordered.

“That this matter is hereby adjourned to the 10th day of January 2022 for hearing of the substantive suit at High Court No. 15, Kubwa, FCT-Abuja.”

An APC chieftain said the court order has hobbled the party as the court already fixed March 30, 2022 as next adjourned date.

“That means the party won’t be able to hold its convention on March 26, 2021 until another court over rule the earlier order,” he told SaharaReporters.

“With INEC having published an elections timetable, the APC is now under pressure to meet stipulated timelines failing which it may not be able to field candidates in the 2023 general elections.

“It’s so sad that this is happening at this time, the party is in serious crisis and controversies surrounding its national convention. Some high-ranking party leaders first clashed over the date for the convention, after that was settled, another crisis began over the controversial endorsement of some candidates by President Muhammadu Buhari at the behest of some Northern state governors.”

He added, “The Legal Sub-Committee of APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) is now frantically shopping for corrupt judges who will hide behind legal technicalities to vacate the subsisting court order that has barred the party from holding its convention.

“It is a serious matter because our party leaders are now seeing that the party is inching towards the 2019 Rivers and Zamfara states scenario where candidates fielded by the party were deemed ineligible. So, as things stand, the team will do all that is necessary to avert that situation.

“Conservatively, they have voted billions of naira for that aspect. They have strategized to work with more than one judge to increase the success rate of this intervention.”

In order to improve service delivery to their customers, six Nigerian airlines have formed the ‘Spring Alliance’.

The carriers joined forces on March 8, 2022 in Lagos.
Air Peace Chairman and AON Vice-President Allen Onyema stated that the Alliance would benefit passengers flying with the six airlines.

The alliance is said to be modeled after the popular global airline alliances.

Recently, all airlines increased their fares, with a one-way economy ticket costing N50,000 as opposed to N25,000-30,000 previously.

That’s why some experts urge caution and ask regulators to join the alliance to prevent it from becoming a price-fixing platform.

However, Onyema explained that the alliance would protect passengers if one of the airlines had a problem.

“This alliance will enable us to satisfy the flying public’s complaints,” he said.

At the same time, Onyema urged other airlines to join the alliance to take advantage of the alliance’s benefits.

He noted that other African airlines may wish to join the Spring Alliance.

“There are so many alliances that airlines can join,” he said. We have Star Alliance, One World, and others. And airlines decide to take advantage of those alliances for both passengers and airlines.

“Air Peace, Azman Air, Arik Air, Aero Contractors, Max Air & United Nigeria have decided to form what we call the Spring Alliance.

“It is called Spring Alliance. We decided to work together for the benefit of the flying public who uses these airlines.

“This alliance protects our passengers when one airline has a problem. This alliance will enable us to satisfy the flying public’s complaints.”

Capt. Abdullahi Mahmood, Managing Director of Aero Contractors, said the Spring Alliance is a historic step that prioritizes passenger satisfaction.

According to United Nigeria Airlines CEO Obiora Okonkwo, the alliance will revolutionize flight services for Nigerians, as passenger satisfaction is the main goal.

Capt. Ado Sanusi, former Managing Director of Aero Contractors, welcomed the partnership.

But, he said, the regulator must be aware of it.

“Airlines can join forces. Like international alliances where you coordinate with other airlines to assist in better outreach, interlining, code-sharing, and so on. All alliances, code-sharing, and everything is regulated in our domestic market. “At the end of the day, if the flying public pays more or the alliances do not serve the flying public, it is not in the interest of the aviation industry,” he stated.

“It is a welcome development, but it must be carefully examined for any hidden agenda.”

Sanusi also noted that the timing was incorrect, as the public was accusing operators of colluding to fix prices. But it is suspicious…”

Capt. Roland Iyayi recalled proposing a decade ago that airlines form a Domestic Network Alliance (DNA) to manage capacity.

“I suggested it over 10 years ago which I called Domestic Network Alliance,” said Iyayi, President of TopBrass Aviation. The idea is to better manage capacity among domestic airlines.

Six of them coming together shows that the industry has matured and that egos will be put aside to do what is best for the industry as a whole.

A ticket from any airline can be used on the next available flight. The fact that the industry is finally waking up to the reality is a good thing,” he said.

“If it involves interlining, it is reasonable development among the airlines hoping that the FCCPC will not call it a cartel,” said aviation analyst Group Capt. John Ojikutu. My concern with the alliance is the number of routes involved. Who is dropping and picking up passengers is unknown.

According to him, the six airlines would primarily fly the triangle routes of Lagos-Abuja-Enugu-Owerri-Philippines. Others include Lagos/Benin/Osubi/Asaba. Other routes include Lagos/Abuja/Kaduna/Kano/Sokoto and Lagos/Abuja/Yola/Maiduguri. The alliance decides on the distribution of passengers and interlining fares on routes that do not cause conflicts. Oyo police confirms killing of ex-Iyalode’s daughter

Alhaja Fatimah Awolesu, the only surviving daughter of the immediate past Iyalode of Ibadan land, Alhaja Aminat Abiodun, was killed.

It was yesterday reported her death.

Unidentified gunmen killed her in her home in Ibadan’s Bashorun district.

Her death has been confirmed by State Police.

The command said in a response to Adewale Osifeso, its Police Public Relations Officer, that the deceased had been buried.

“A family member reported the unfortunate demise of Alhaja Fatima Awolesu ‘f’ to the Police on Wednesday 09/03/2022.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that unknown assailants attacked the deceased at her Bashorun residence, injuring her.

“Crime Scene Investigators were immediately dispatched to conduct thorough forensic investigations.

The APC Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC) has finally eliminated Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff, former Zamfara State Governor Abdulazeez Yari, and former Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda from the national chairmanship race. It finally zoned the national chairman to North-Central.

The party also eliminated Senator John James Akpanudedehe (Akwa Ibom), Victor Giadom (River), Amb. Jerry Ugokwe (Anambra), and other South-East and South-South aspirants who expected to be zoned for the post of national secretary.
Sens. Umaru Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Abdullahi Adamu (Nasarawa), Sani Musa (Niger), Alhaji Saliu Mustapha, Turaki Ilorin (Kwara), and Sen. George Akume (Ebonyi) are now the leading contenders for the position of national chairman.
The party unexpectedly zoned the national secretary position to the South-West, while the South-East got the party’s deputy national chairman (South).

Salisu Na’inna Dambatta, APC Director of Publicity, said the CECPC approved the zoning committee’s recommendations on Tuesday.
Governor Sani Bello, chairman of the CECPC, charged the enlarged subcommittees to ensure a hitch-free convention.

He said the committee has worked hard to reduce the number of subcommittees and urged those affected to understand that not all party members will work during the convention.
“We have begun efforts to ensure a fair and free convention.

“We expect you to show these qualities to ensure the convention’s success.
I know many of our party faithful wanted to contribute to a healthy party by serving on various committees.

‘However, we must keep in mind that we cannot accommodate everyone.

So we whittled it down to a manageable list”, he assures the March 26 convention date.

The appointment of Niger State Governor Sani Bello as chairman of the APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee has been hailed by the MBO Dynamic Support Group.

President Muhammadu Buhari reportedly fired caretaker committee chairman and Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni, and replaced him with Governor Bello, who assumed party leadership on Monday.
The group’s National Coordinator, Hon Usman Ibrahim, said Buhari should also remove the “bad eggs” from his government.

President Muhammadu Buhari gave them a directive to remove Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni as the chairman of the APC’s caretaker committee, Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai said on Wednesday.

 

El-Rufai said governors elected on the party’s platform allowed things to degenerate in the party by taking a back seat, according to Channels Television’s Politics Today.

 

According to him, 19 governors and one deputy governor of the party unanimously agreed to carry out the president’s directive, while the remaining three governors are spreading “fake news” that Buni has not been removed.

“The president held a meeting with us (APC governors), gave us a clear directive and responsibilities, and then went into his waiting chopper at the airport,” the governor continued.

“It’s just that some of us decided to take a back seat and let things get to this point because we believe that once elected, we should concentrate on governance and leave party administration to those who are better at it.”

Buni’s name was missing from a list of APC national convention sub-committees released by the party yesterday, according to our reporter.

 

He hasn’t been taken away – Umahi

Buni, however, has not been removed as the chairman of the caretaker committee, according to Ebonyi State Governor David Umahi.

 

He insisted that Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, the governor of Niger State, was only appointed by his Yobe counterpart to hold a brief while he went on medical leave.

 

“The national chairman went on medical leave, and we were there when he asked the governor of Niger State to act for him,” Umahi told APC supporters in Abakaliki.

 

“If anything changes, you will be notified.”
But for the time being, there is none, and the party is intact,” he said.

 

Also yesterday, the party finally zoned the chairmanship and national secretaryship to the North Central and South West, respectively.
Salisu Na’inna ambatta, Director of Publicity, signed the zoning formula.

 

Meanwhile, Sani Bello, the acting chairman of the party and the governor of Niger State, has stated that the interim committee will ensure a smooth convention.

The governor also announced that the number of sub-committees for the convention had been reduced, speaking to reporters after their meeting at the APC national secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday.

 

Senators will meet with Buhari and others.
Senators from the APC held an emergency meeting for the second day in a row yesterday to discuss the party’s crisis.

 

Following a closed-door meeting, the lawmakers stated that various issues confronting the party had been thoroughly discussed, with a clear indication of peace ahead of the convention.

 

Senator Yahaya Abdullahi (APC, Kebbi) told reporters that the Senate caucus agreed to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari, the governors’ forum, the party’s caretaker committee, and aspirants in order to strengthen the party and position it to win local and national elections.

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved a new security measure requiring all federal public institutions to obtain a quality assurance certificate from the National Information Technology Development Agency before embarking on any ICT project worth more than N1 billion.

The certificate that must be obtained after the completion of the government digital services project, according to Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Ali Pantami, is meant to ensure that it was carried out according to specifications.
“We discovered that sometimes an approval or clearance could be granted in the cost of implementation, some of the specifications will be changed, and if there is no quality assurance certificate, we will not be able to know whether the project is implemented according to the clearance or not,” says one of the reasons for introducing this layer.

The minister stated that the federal government saved over N24 billion as a result of the initial provision that required all federal public institutions to obtain IT Project Clearance from NITDA before embarking on ICT projects.
