Backs Okpebholo: Oshiomhole Says Peter Obi Should Show Respect by Informing Authorities Before Edo Visit

0

Governor Monday Okpebholo has been backed by Edo North lawmaker Adams Oshiomhole in his demand that former presidential candidate Peter Obi obtain security clearance prior to his visit to Edo State.
Okpebholo was said to have cautioned Obi against entering the state without first obtaining security clearance, tying the former presidential candidate’s most recent visit to a security lapse that reportedly claimed three lives.
Speaking on Prime Time, an Arise Television program, on Friday, Oshiomhole expressed his opinion on the governor’s admonition, saying that Obi should have informed Okpebholo before his visit out of self-respect and decency.

When public figures like Obi intend to visit a state, he maintained, it is crucial to notify the appropriate authorities.

The former Edo governor emphasized that the state government provides all funding and upkeep for the aforementioned school, which Obi is anticipated to visit.

“Let’s be honest: the Edo state governor is in charge of the city’s government property. It is a question of decency and self-respect for anyone, including myself, to notify the authorities if they travel to Enugu or Anambra during Obi’s tenure as governor and wish to visit a government-owned establishment, such as a nursing home.

I worked with a guy named Peter Obi, and we were quite close. Even though we disagree politically, I still like him. Oshiomhole remarked, “I disagree with him on some issues.

Court Sentences Two ‘EFCC’ Officials To Prison

Two men who posed as EFCC personnel in Kano State have been found guilty by the EFCC.
The Kano State High Court’s Justice Nasiru Saminu sentenced the two convicted individuals, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Usman, on Friday after they were arraigned on a single count of impersonation, according to reports.
The EFCC’s Kano Zonal Directorate claims that in May 2025, the two posed as EFCC inspectors and tricked unwary citizens by presenting fake identification documents.

Part of the charge stated: “That you, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman, sometime in May 2025 in Kano, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, falsely impersonated as investigators of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), where you used a false identity card and paraded yourselves as staff of EFCC, thereby committing an offense contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.”

When the charge was read to them in court, both defendants entered guilty pleas.

Idris I. Haruna, the prosecution attorney, went over the case’s facts and pleaded with the court to rule in their favor.

After a trial, Justice Saminu found them guilty and sentenced them to six months in prison each, with the possibility of a ₦50,000 fine.

It was confirmed by the anti-graft agency that the men were detained while pretending to be its agents. The public was alerted by the EFCC to be wary of scammers posing as commission representatives.

The conviction supports the EFCC’s continuous efforts to crack down on impersonators who damage the agency’s reputation and take advantage of people by using false pretenses.

2027: PDP Is Dead Politically, Says Adamu Garba

Adamu Garba, a former presidential aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lost public trust.
Garba was alleged to have revealed this during an interview on AIT’s Focus Nigeria programme.
According to the APC chairman, the PDP is no longer an Iroko tree, but a cucumber.

According to Garba, the PDP is on the verge of self-destruction, and the party will fail to win anything in the 2027 election.

He stated, “Looking at the allegory of a tree can tell you whether a party or a society is growing.” You have roots, you grow and produce fruits, you release seeds, and they begin to grow again.

“But now that all of the branches have dried up and the leaves have dropped, they are returning to the roots.

“An Iroko tree has a 100-year lifespan, but PDP is not an Iroko tree; I believe it is a cucumber because it is no longer alive.

“To the best of my knowledge, the PDP has lost the public’s trust, so I don’t want to categorize them as anything in the upcoming 2027 election.”

“The party’s self-destruction is caused by PDP members. You saw the conflict between the FCT Minister and a former Vice President who was present, as well as the internal difficulties that arose during their last convention; there is a lot of misunderstanding within the PDP.

“They really caused their self-destruction and that is why they are now organising themselves in a nostalgic mode to replay the game of 1998, 1999 and see the possibility of if they will ever survive.”

Fayose Claims Tinubu Is Fastest Link to Northern Control of Power

President Bola Tinubu, according to former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, is the quickest way for power to return to the North.
Fayose reportedly stated this in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.
Fayose stated that Tinubu had informed him that the APC was the shortest route between the North and the South, but at the time, he was unable to comprehend.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is already in chaos, he continued, and everyone is acting in their own way.

“I remember he told me that the shortest distance between the North and the South is APC,” he remarked.

“He told me that anyone should be able to wait another four years after Buhari’s four years, which I did not comprehend at the time.

Since Tinubu is currently the quickest route for power to return to the North, the PDP’s zoning to the south is advantageous to them.

Regarding whether or not I should be trusted, that is their issue, hence I don’t need to be trusted. I said the party was already going into overdrive when I arrived.

“You know that party management has become a problem, and everyone in that party today is doing to your tent, o Israel.” Pretenders may act.

What Inspired My N20 Million Donation to UNICAL Dentistry – Peter Obi

Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi has explained why he donated ₦20 million to the University of Calabar School of Dentistry.
He stated that he made the donation to lessen the load on pupils.
Obi complained that the government had ignored what he regarded as children’ most fundamental educational demands, while political figures lived in luxury.

Speaking at Calabar Airport, the former governor of Anambra State stated, “The situation at UNICAL is a direct reflection of failed leadership.” We cannot continue to let our children bear the brunt of our political mistakes.

“We spend millions on luxury for political office holders, while young Nigerians pursuing an education lack the most basic equipment. It shouldn’t be like this.”

According to Obi, the scenario at the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Calabar, was a clear example of leadership failure in Nigeria’s education system. He stated that the ₦20 million grant would help upgrade vital infrastructure in the faculty.

“This token is to help procure 15 additional dental chairs, a key requirement set by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for expanding the faculty’s student intake,” stated the administrator.

He encouraged the authorities to examine the condition of the afflicted kids, whose academic development had been significantly impeded due to poor facilities.

Obi urged other well-meaning Nigerians and leaders to support institutions such as UNICAL, stating that the country’s future rests on how effectively its population are educated and empowered.

African Cocoa Producers Push for Equitable Trade and Long‑Term Growth

The Cocoa Farmers Alliance Association of Africa (COFAAA) has reiterated its dedication to advancing sustainable technologies that enhance the livelihoods of African cocoa growers and their communities, as well as to advancing economic fairness and elevating the voices of cocoa farmers.

Africa supplies more than 70% of the world’s cocoa, but systemic injustices and unfair international trade practices keep the continent’s farmers impoverished, according to Comrade Adeola Adegoke, President and Global Coordinator of COFAAA, who spoke at the organization’s global webinar.

The African cocoa ecosystem serves as the foundation for the global chocolate business, which is worth over $120 billion a year, he said.

“However, the economic advantages are still unequally shared, making African cocoa producers susceptible to poverty, unstable prices, and unjust market conditions,” Adegoke stated.

By working more closely with international cocoa organizations, development partners, and the governments of African cocoa-producing nations, COFAAA hopes to buck this trend and promote the interests of smallholder farmers.

The goal, according to Adegoke, is to raise local processing and cocoa production in Africa to roughly four million metric tonnes, or 90% of the world’s total cocoa production.

“This must be accomplished through increased productivity per hectare (800 kg to 1000 kg), sustainable practices like intensifying cocoa agroforestry, ecosystem management, traceability, premium flavor processing methods, and climate-smart and soil-friendly farming practices—all while guaranteeing youth inclusivity.”

He went on to say that the webinar was organized to support and maintain African leadership in the global cocoa economy by bringing smallholder cocoa farmers’ voices together, increasing productivity using sustainable practices, and encouraging increased cooperation among stakeholders.

Adegoke defined COFAAA as a membership-based organization dedicated to addressing the most important issues confronting cocoa growers throughout Africa.

Our goal is to support sustainable agricultural methods, give farmers more authority, and guarantee the long-term sustainability of the world’s cocoa environment. “Africa’s cocoa industry is a symbol of our agricultural heritage and a major economic driver,” he remarked.

He praised the work of international cocoa organizations and stakeholders, such as the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF), Ghana Cocoa Board, Cameroon’s National Cocoa and Coffee Board, Nigeria’s National Cocoa Management Committee, the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO), and others, for helping to sustain African cocoa production in the face of growing climate change threats.

He said, “A lot of African governments and institutions have already put in place sound policy frameworks and strategic partnerships to keep us at the forefront of the world’s cocoa production, which currently accounts for 70% of the total.”

Speaking as the webinar’s keynote speaker, Alex Assanvo, Executive Secretary of the Cote d’Ivoire-Ghana Cocoa Initiative (CIGHCI), praised COFAAA for providing a forum to elevate the voices of African cocoa farmers. He was represented by his deputy and Technical Manager, Tawiah Agyarko-Kwarteng.

The cooperation is timely and in line with CIGHCI’s purpose to enhance farmers’ welfare through the economic, social, and environmental pillars of sustainability, according to Agyarko-Kwarteng.

She emphasized that the CIGHCI was founded by the presidents of Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire to solve severe issues in the cocoa industry, specifically with regard to prices and earnings for farmers in both nations, which together produce the majority of Africa’s cocoa.

Nigeria Needs Capable Leadership, Not a Southern or Northern President – Gbenga-Hashim

A presidential candidate named Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has stated that the election of a capable, patriotic, and visionary leader who can address insecurity, generate employment, and enhance the standard of living for all Nigerians is more important for the country’s future than regional calculations or ethnic alliances.

Considering what appears to be a concerted effort by certain politicians to elect a Southern-born president in 2027, he explained why.

The “continuous manipulation of religion and ethnicity by corrupt political opportunists” that has failed to provide Nigerians with genuine development was denounced by Dr. Olawepo-Hashim in a statement issued on Thursday.

Nigeria doesn’t require a president from the North or the South. “What our nation desperately needs is a good president who can secure the country, boost the economy, and give our people hope again,” Hashim said.

He cited instances from the constituencies of Lagos, Kano, and Gboko to demonstrate that Nigerians are capable of making decisions based on competency rather than ethnic or religious passion, as demonstrated by recent political trends and previous elections.

“In the 1993 election, the Kano people chose Chief M.K.O. Abiola of Ogun State over their own son, Bashir Tofa. More recently, Lagos voters turned away the current president in favor of a candidate from another area. Kashim was elected as a Kanuri Muslim in the predominantly Tiv and Christian constituency of Gboko. Into the first Republic’s Northern regional legislature. “These demonstrate our country’s maturity,” he remarked.

The Frontline politician charged that lawmakers who support regional presidency are more interested in their own agendas than in fostering national cohesion.

“Those who support either the Southern or Northern presidential candidates are doing so for their own stomachs, not for the benefit of the populace. These kinds of games have lost their appeal among Nigerians.

“They are looking for leaders who can do the job, not leaders who are just local or religious,” he said.

He underlined that the nation’s survival is now at risk and urged all political parties to submit candidates for the 2027 elections based only on their credibility, competency, and character.

Political antics have outlived their usefulness. Our future cannot be pledged to religious and ethnic merchants who do not deserve a decent nation run by decent people,” he continued.

Reiterating his pledge to create a united, safe, and wealthy Nigeria, the former presidential candidate called on Nigerians of all ethnicities and religions to unite in opposing divisive politics.

Atiku’s ADC Victory Inevitable, But He Won’t Be President – Party Stalwart Says

0

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is expected to be the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) presidential candidate in 2027, according to Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos State.
Speaking to reporters regarding the recent wave of PDP defections, which included Atiku, Pearse stated that the action poses no threat to the PDP.
He claimed that the former PDP presidential candidate had harmed his own reputation.

“Atiku will definitely win the ADC primary and secure the presidential ticket, but he cannot win the presidential election on that platform,” Pearse conceded.

“The former vice president consistently makes poor decisions. In a recent interview with reporters in Lagos, the PDP leader said, “What he is doing now is messing up his political credentials.”

He predicted that many ADC defectors would quickly realize their error and rejoin the PDP.

Meeting of the NEC
Speaking further about the PDP’s internal developments, Pearse said that all questions regarding the party’s unity and strength had been answered by the recently concluded National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

The successful NEC meeting, according to Pearse, a former member of the Atiku Abubakar 2023 Presidential Campaign Committee and the organizer of the Reset Lagos PDP group, marks a significant turning point for the PDP.

“There is nothing wrong with PDP. The issues that many other political parties face are not present in the PDP. “The PDP has a very solid foundation,” he said.

“Just like in a marriage, there can be some issues that must be resolved,” Pearse said, comparing the party’s internal conflicts to marital misunderstandings. Do you know what you would face in the other marriage you choose to enter if you leave this one abruptly? It could get much worse, possibly disastrous.

“Our NEC meeting has taken place, and all indications suggest that PDP is doing well. As Democrats, we elect our leaders rather than appointing them like the other party does. Everything is in order, and PDP is progressing. We look good. PDP has already returned. Those quitting the PDP are perplexed because they just made a mistake.

A Masterstroke: Zoning the Presidency to the South
Pearse called the party’s decision to zon its 2027 presidential ticket to the South “a game changer.”

“This is the only way to defeat incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) President Bola Tinubu,” Pearse said.

According to reports, the PDP had its 101st NEC meeting in Abuja on Thursday and decided to host its national electoral convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16.

Party stakeholders reportedly attended the meeting, which covered important internal reforms and established a strategic framework for the general elections in 2027.

Pearse’s remarks coincide with the PDP’s efforts to reestablish itself as a viable rival to the ruling APC in the face of internal power struggles, defections, and the pursuit of a victorious alliance in the upcoming election cycle.

Bayelsa Judge Kidnapped at Eatery: Suspects Give Shocking Account

The suspected abductors of Justice Ebiyerin Omukoro, a judge of the Bayelsa High Court, have described how they took him from a restaurant in Yenagoa and transported him to a neighboring state.
The director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adedapo Amao, and the commissioner of police for Bayelsa State, Francis Idu, paraded the eight suspects—six of whom were men and two of whom were women—in Yenagoa on Thursday, according to reports.
According to reports, the suspects confessed to the crime during their parade and are currently being held by the DSS.

One of the main suspects, Justice Brodrick, a native of Delta State’s Ozobo town, acknowledged that he participated in the kidnapping after receiving a call from a man he identified as his boss.

Thus, on June 21, he called to invite me to Yenagoa. Additionally, he called John Uzi, who is standing next to me. In order to accompany him to Bayelsa, I phoned my younger brother, Kelvin Olu,” Brodrick informed reporters.

He clarified that clothes and a mission vehicle were given to them upon arrival in Bayelsa.

“We moved out of our camp, but it wasn’t a fixed target,” he stated. At Kilimanjaro (a restaurant), we were just patrolling when we ran into the judge. From there, we abducted him and brought him to our camp.

When they kidnapped their victim, Brodrick claims they had no idea he was a judge. But when they learned that he was from the Ekeremor Local Government Area, they made the decision to treat him with some respect.

“When he revealed that he is Ijaw, our leader, whom we refer to as the ‘General,’ insisted that he be kept in handcuffs while still being treated as one of our own,” he said.

Although he was in the camp when the judge was introduced, another suspect, John, who was also paraded, stated he was not involved in the actual operation because of his poor health.

The governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, had earlier stated at the State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday that everyone engaged in the kidnapping had been taken into custody, with the exception of the gang leader, who is still active.

The Department of State Services, which sent a special operations team from Abuja, was instrumental in the arrest, according to Commissioner of Police Francis Idu, who credited the arrest to successful interagency cooperation.

He praised Governor Diri for supplying the logistics that made the rescue possible and for installing CCTV cameras in key locations throughout the state, which helped with the operation.

“His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri’s security governance strategy is demonstrated by the arrest of these suspects,” Idu stated.

“He has consistently emphasized the necessity of security agencies working together, and this case demonstrates that Bayelsa is no longer a safe place for criminals to operate.”

Additionally, the police head sent out a strong warning to anyone planning a crime in the state.

New APC Chairman Declares: PDP, LP, ADC Are No Threat

Nentawe Yilwatda, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) new national chairman, has ruled out the possibility that Nigeria’s opposition parties could run against his party in the 2027 elections.
Yilwatda asserts that the APC is unconcerned about the dangers posed by the nation’s opposition groups, such as the coalition-backed African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He stated, “At this time, there is no opposition,” in an interview with Channels Television on Thursday, just after he was elected chairman of the ruling party.

He claimed that the APC won the 2023 elections handily and has since won a landslide in nearly every bye-election and off-season gubernatorial contest, so the 2027 presidential election would not be an anomaly.

He expressed “zero fears” regarding the likelihood that the opposition coalition would overthrow the APC in 2027.

“Why has the APC won every by-election in the past two years, in most cases with overwhelming victories?” He joked.

The former Humanitarian Affairs Minister promised to bring the party together and recruit additional governors from the PDP and other opposition parties to join the APC in addition to winning elections.

“I have the responsibility of bringing the party together and growing it.” As of right now, we have 23 governors. Bringing in more is my job. “We would bring in more and do the legwork,” he said.
