PDP Extends Forms Sale For All Offices In 2023

The Peoples Democratic Party’s Iyorchia Ayu-led National Working Committee on Wednesday extended the sale of nomination forms for all posts from April 1 to April 8.

The news was revealed in a statement made by the party’s National Organizing Secretary, Umar Bature.

‘Extension of Form Sales and Rescheduling of Screening Exercises,’ read the announcement.

The deadline for submitting completed Forms Exercises for both the State House of Assembly and the National Assembly has been pushed up to April 10, 2022, according to the largest opposition party.

Their screening has been rescheduled to April 12 and 14, 2022 respectively.

The PDP has set the price of their presidential nomination and expression of interest forms at N40 million, while “State House of Assembly Expression of Interest: N100,000; Nomination Form, N500,000.” Expression of Interest: N500,000; Nomination Form: N2,000,000. House of Representatives: Expression of Interest: N500,000; Nomination Form: N2,000,000.

NRC Releases passengers manifest for ill-Fated Abuja-Kaduna Train

The passengers’ manifest for the ill-fated Abuja-Kaduna train has been issued by the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).

It was recalled that on Monday night, gunmen suspected of being terrorists attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train between Katari and Rigina axis, killing at least eight people.
Terrorists are suspected to have taken an indeterminate number of people, while 26 have been confirmed injured.

The State Government obtained the complete passenger manifest for the ill-fated train from the NRC, according to Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs.

According to the records, 398 people purchased tickets for the journey, but only 362 were recognized as having entered the train through the designated turnstile.

The identities of the 398 people who were validated, including the 362 people, have now been revealed.

Twenty bandits raided the Pipeline Extension neighbourhood in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, robbing families of their possessions.

The criminals raided the neighborhood around 2 a.m. on Wednesday after operating for more than an hour.
According to eyewitnesses, armed hoodlums arrived with various deadly weapons and injured community local vigilantes before robbing the neighborhood house to home.

The hoodlums are also said to have attacked and stolen items such as phones, electronics, and other technological devices.

The thieves threatened to kill his eight-year-old kid if he did not give them money, according to one of the victims.

When the matter was reported to the police station, another victim said the officers asked if the thieves had firearms or if they were just typical street robberies.

Buhari orders army to pursue militants who killed 8 people, kidnapped scores

Even as the precise number of victims killed, injured, and abducted in a gun attack on a train in northwest Kaduna state late Monday remained unknown, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari instructed the military to deal harshly with bandits.

President Buhari’s directive came when the Kaduna state administration received the passenger manifest and a news that eight deaths had been found, 41 people had been injured, and many more had been kidnapped on Tuesday night.
The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) verified receiving the manifest for the Abuja-Kaduna train service AK9, which was targeted by terrorists late Tuesday.

The manifest shows that 398 people purchased tickets for the journey, but only 362 were confirmed as having boarded the train through a recognized turnstile.

According to Mr Samuel Aruwan, Kaduna commissioner for internal security and home affairs, the passenger manifest did not include NRC workers and security officers who were on board.

Surveillance for security
President Buhari has also ordered the implementation of security surveillance and monitoring on the Abuja-Kaduna railway line, as well as the extension of this to the Lagos-Ibadan line.

The president, who convened an emergency conference with all security leaders, ordered that all passengers kidnapped be returned and that everyone of the “callous terrorists” be tracked down and brought to punishment for their horrific deeds.

The bombing, according to President Buhari, is a “matter of great concern.”

“No one should be able to extort money from the country. “Like most Nigerians, I am very distressed by this incident, the second of its kind, which has led in the deaths of an unknown number of passengers and injury to others,” he stated.

“The attack on the train, which is a safe mode of transportation for many, is heartless, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims and the injured.””

Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi reacted to the event by saying that the attack on the Kaduna-bound train might have been avoided if a security surveillance system had been in place.

“I’m saddened, and I’m not sure what to say to Nigerians anymore.” It took a long time to find an integrated security surveillance and monitoring system. “We could have saved lives if the processes had been shortened,” Mr Amaechi added.

He went to the location of the incident with a group of security chiefs.

He said that the ministry lacked sufficient cameras inside the train, and that a high-tech camera capable of detecting objects from afar was required.

“The train’s cameras are unable to detect what is going on outside. “What you need is a camera that indicates there are unknown men carrying firearms 100 meters away from the train,” he stated.

“We’re considering hiring indigenous until we can obtain the necessary equipment. We also require helicopters in addition to drones.”

He indicated that the NRC may halt the nighttime train, but that stopping it was not a solution, and that instead, proper technology to assure security was required.

A bullet to the stomach
Zainab Shuaibu, a student, was shot in the stomach and killed, according to Ms Fatima Shuaibu.

She claimed that when the train approached Kaduna, they were startled by a tremendous explosion, which caused the train to derail.

According to her, the train’s security guards ordered everyone to lie down on the floor.

Terrorists arrived in (buses) and motorbikes, she added, and those who were kidnapped were transported away in the buses.

“In the train, I was sat near the window. I started seeing a torch light all of a sudden. It was approximately 8 p.m. at the time. Then, as if something had burst, there was a deafening explosion. The train abruptly veered off course. “As soon as the train came to a halt, we heard gunshots,” she added.

“The train’s security staff announced that everyone should lie down on the train’s floor.” My sister (Zainab Awal) was killed after being shot in the stomach.”

Terrorists assaulted the VIP carriage, kidnapped several persons, and carried them to the jungle, she claimed. During the two-hour ordeal, they shot at other persons until troops and the Air Force arrived.

“The terrorists were boys between the ages of 18 and 20.” Another victim, Abudul Hamid, claimed, “I saw them, they didn’t seem like Nigerians.”

Tension as IPOB dares Soludo over Monday’s sit-at-home order

Despite Governor Charles Soludo’s instruction that employees go to work on Mondays, the sit-at-home movement has resumed in Anambra State.

Banks, schools, and businessmen returned to the trenches from Awka to Nnewi, Onitsha, and Ekwulobia, causing tension in Anambra.

After the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) vowed to deal with anybody who disobeyed their order again, locals blamed the previous Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for the fresh sit-at-home.

Soludo had ordered all schools and employees in the state to return, noting that markets will be the focus next week.
On Friday in Awka, he delivered the command at a meeting with leaders of 91 Markets and Transport Unions.

He said that a preliminary study revealed that the State lost over N19.6 billion every Monday owing to business closures.

The Governor said that the instruction was essential owing to the clear detrimental effect that the sit-at-home movement was having throughout the Southeast.
He said that he had no objections to anyone sympathizing with the incarceration of IPOB’s leader.

“People should devote time to pray for him as we leaders continue to follow up on the subject,” Soludo added. “I think the problem will be handled via discussion.”

Sunny Obinze, Chairman of Bridge Head Markets, requested that the Governor allow them to speak with their subjects before enforcing the order.

IPOB members have threatened that anybody who tries to challenge them would be held responsible.

IPOB’s National Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, has said that the organisation is not a part of the Monday sit-in.

However, all schools and banks that had been open before were closed on Monday as a result of an order from a circular that had not been signed.

On Monday, employees remained away from their various workplaces for fear of being assaulted, and stores were all locked up.

Commercial vehicles remained away, leaving the roadways vacant.

Some neighbors blamed Soludo for the incident, claiming that his directive was unnecessary since the sit-at-home protests were already dissipating.

People should quit provoking needless tension, according to Anambra Police spokesperson Ikenga Tochukwu.

“Anambra is secure; there is nothing going on here.” It’s just fear that individuals have instilled in themselves, and it shouldn’t be that way. Tochukwu said, “We haven’t noticed anything wrong with what the Governor said.”

The opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has met to fine-tune strategies for the emergence of a Northern consensus presidential aspirant ahead of the party’s primary, just 48 hours after the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention that produced Abdullahi Adamu as a consensus candidate for National Chairman.

Former Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Kawu Baraje, and the immediate past deputy governor of Zamfara State, Mahdi Aliyu were all present at the meeting held in Bauchi State on Sunday.

It may be remembered that the party had its national convention in 2021, electing a northerner as its National Chairman.
As a result, calls for the party’s presidential candidate to come from the South are gathering traction, as the three bigwigs vie for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 general election.

However, speaking to reporters after their meeting, Saraki stated that the PDP is the only option the country has to save it from impending collapse, emphasizing the importance of unity and consensus, as well as the fact that the party is a family that should not tolerate any form of division or faction.

He went on to say that the purpose of his visit was to meet with Governor Mohammed and put their heads together to come up with practical solutions that would unify the party ahead of the 2023 elections.

The Middle Belt Youth Emancipation Vanguard has called on stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress from the zone to adopt party national leader, Bola Tinubu, as its consensus presidential candidate.

The group said it settled for the former Lagos State Governor after a careful assessment of the aspirants, concluding that Tinubu is needed at this critical point in the nation’s existence.

The Middle Belt group made this known at a press conference on Monday in Abuja.

In his address, the convener, Patriot Dauda Yakubu, said Tinubu is perfect for the job having displayed consistency, capacity and sagacity over the years.

Describing Tinubu as a bridge-builder, talent hunter and icon of democracy, Yakubu said the APC national leader has contributed immensely to the democratic ideals in the country right from the era of military rule.

He also said that the ex-governor is a detribalised Nigerian that knows no religion or ethnicity and believes in the country’s unity, peace and progress.

With Tinubu at the helms of affairs, the group added that Nigeria would be guaranteed socio-economic growth and development that would in “no small measures aid the translation of our hopes and aspirations into tangible realities”.

The Middle Belt youths, therefore, called on all well-meaning Nigerians to show solidarity with Tinubu.

Yakubu noted that the former governor “ presents a credible credential laced with experience, commitment, patriotism, and an unalloyed sincerity of heart and purpose, which would come in handy in setting Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth and development”.
