The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared SENATE President Ahmed Lawan the victor of the Yobe North Senatorial District (INEC).

Professor Omolola Aduloje, the returning officer for Yobe North, from the Federal University’s Gashua, Bade Local Government, announced the results.

The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 91,318 votes, according to the returning officer, defeating Ilu Alhaji-Bello of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 22,849 votes.

As a result, she declared Lawan the victor of the Yobe North Senate race.

After Lawan, who did not vote in the Yobe North senatorial primary, received the APC’s nomination for the position after failing to secure the presidential ticket, concerns were raised.

He emerged the APC senatorial candidate through a Supreme Court ruling, after a running battle with Bashir Machina, who won the party’s primary election.

INEC suspends rescheduled Presidential, NASS elections in Abia

The rescheduled presidential and National Assembly elections in seven local government areas of Abia State have been put on hold by the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC.

A new date will be announced in due course, according to Mrs. Rebecca Jim, Head, Voter Education and Publicity, INEC, Abia, who made this announcement in a statement.

She declared: “The proposed election in Abia scheduled for Monday, February 27, 2023 has been postponed in polling units where election could not be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

“You will be informed as soon as a new date is available.

We deeply regret any inconveniences.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr. Clement Oha, the INEC administration secretary in charge of Abia, spoke to journalists about the upcoming election on Sunday in Umuahia.

He stated that various polling places in the local government areas of Aba North, Aba South, Arochukwu, Obingwa, Osisioma, Ohafia, and Umuahia North would host the election.

Oha clarified that the new poll was the result of various levels of inconsistencies in the procedures, some of which were somewhat violent.

“The commission, in their wisdom, felt that there shouldn’t be a winner by default and that the integrity of the election should be preserved.

So tomorrow (Monday), elections must be held in the affected polling places, he had said.

Breaking: Supreme Court affirms Chijioke Edeoga as Enugu LP candidate

Chijioke Edeoga has been recognized by the Supreme Court as the Labour Party’s legitimate candidate for governor of Enugu State.

Everestus Nnaji contested Edeoga’s candidacy.

Earlier, a Federal High Court in Abuja ordered a new election, but Edeoga went further and appealed the decision.

After receiving a favorable ruling, Nnaji appealed to the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court’s decision on Monday favored Edeoga.

The Court of Appeal’s Abuja Division’s earlier decision naming Edeoga as the legitimate Labour Party Governorship Candidate was upheld by the Supreme Court.

It described Nnaji (Odengene) as a meddlesome interloper who shouldn’t have gone to court in first place, since he didn’t participate in the Labour Party Governorship Primaries in the first place.

2023 Elections Kaduna Govt bans protests

The Kaduna State government has reminded residents that protests of any kind are still absolutely forbidden in the state throughout the process of tallying the election results.

Samuel Aruwan, the state’s commissioner for internal security and home affairs, said in a statement on Sunday that the state government was pleased with the largely peaceful way in which the elections were conducted throughout the state and that it commended the people for exercising their right to vote.

In order to maintain the atmosphere of calm, the statement pleaded with citizens to refrain from participating in any type of street protests in response to election results.

“Actions which may disturb public peace will be handled decisively by security agencies,” the statement continued.
“It must be emphasized that the Independent National Electoral Commission has sole responsibility for the announcement of election results. People and organizations engaged in the publication of results in an unofficial manner ought to be aware that doing so poses a serious threat to public peace and order.

Individuals or groups with questions about the officially announced results are urged to use the legal resources made available by the Electoral Act.
Aruwan continued by saying that Governor Nasir El-Rufai and the state’s security agencies continue to closely monitor the security situation related to the conduct of the elections.

Cross River State Governor loses Senate race

Ben Ayade, the governor of Cross River State, was defeated in his bid to become a senator again by Jarigbe Agom-Jarigbe, the current senator for Cross River North.

With 76,145 votes, Agom-Jarigbe won the Saturday’s election for the National Assembly. 56,595 people voted for Ayade.

On Monday, February 27, the results were announced by the returning officer, Emmanuel Emanghe.

After the passing of former senator Rose Okoh in September 2021, Agom-Jarigbe, a two-term member of the House of Representatives, won a byelection to the Senate.

However, there was an issue with the declaration form, which prevented Agom-Jarigbe from being officially declared as the winner. Upon demand for the declaration form, he was told that it was mistakenly taken to Obudu by the electoral body in the state.

The form was inadvertently delivered to Obudu, according to Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Gabriel Yomere, who also said that Agom-Jarigbe could be given a temporary declaration form until the original one arrived.

Godwin Offiono of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defeated Jude Ngaji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by a margin of 36,651 votes in the Ogoji/Yala Federal Constituency election. The outcome was announced by Wakasor Ofem.

In Cross River, lecturer detained with 17 BVAS machines

Gabriel Agabi, a lecturer in the philosophy department at the University of Calabar, has been taken into custody by security personnel in the state of Cross Rivers for having access to 17 Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) voting machines.

Agabi, who was detained on Sunday, February 26, is also charged with impersonating Dominic Abakedi, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation officer for the Yache ward in the state’s Yala Local Government Area.

When Agabi was detained, he was donning an INEC reflective jacket.

He was reportedly apprehended at the Okpoma collation center, where the BVAS machines were not set up for the ward where he was detained.

Agabi allegedly confessed to impersonating Abakedi while being taken by police to the Ogoja Area Command for further investigation by the CID unit. Agabi was reportedly taken to the Ogoja INEC office after this.

Zannah Shettima, the regional commissioner of police in charge of the elections, reportedly declined to comment on the situation.

Hon. Jimoh Musa Omiata, a member of the Kogi State House of Assembly who represented the Yagba East local government area, has passed away.

Omiata was the first person to ever be re-elected to the State House of Assembly from the State constituency. Omiata was a two-time member of the State House of Assembly and was from the Igbagun community in the Yagba East LGA of the State.

The lawmaker passed away in Lagos while receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness he had been battling for some time, according to a family source who confirmed his death.
Up until his passing, Musa Omiata served as chairman of the House Committee on Information, Strategy, and Publicity.

Obi Leads Tinubu with over 1,000 votes in 17 Lagos LGAs

In 17 local government areas (LGAs) in Lagos State, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), is ahead of Bola Tinubu, the APC’s nominee, by more than 1,000 votes.

In 17 local government areas in Lagos, as of the time of filing this report at 7:30 am on Monday, Obi had received 448,878 votes while Tinubu had received 447,187.
The figures come from the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) tallies for the Lagos, Nigeria, presidential election held on February 25.

The state collation center in the Yaba area of the state opened its doors on Sunday, and the collation continued there until midnight on Monday. Olusegun Agbaje, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner.

The results for 17 of the state’s 20 LGAs presented by 3:40 am on Monday including Lagos Mainland, Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos Island, Badagry, Agege, Ikeja, Shomolu, Kosofe, Amuwo Odofin, Eti Osa, Surulere, Apapa, Ifako Ijaiye, Ajeromi, Oshodi Isolo.

Results presented for Mushin LGA have yet to get cleared by the state collation officer as they are being contested by the Inter-party Advisory Committee (IPAC) and thus had yet to be signed by most party agents.
INEC asked that they be presented afresh.

The only two LGAs left to be announced are Ojo and Alimosho. For the final results tally, the state’s REC is anticipated to reconvene later on Monday.

Lagos collected 6,214,970 of the 87,209,007 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) that were collected nationwide for the election. Kano, with 5,594,193, and Kaduna, with 4,164,473, are the next two largest cities.

From 1999 to 2007, the state’s governor was based in Lagos. Other presidential contenders in the race include Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party in addition to Tinubu and Obi, a former governor of Anambra State (NNPP).

Jandor visits Lagos voter who was beaten up during election, blames APC

On Sunday, Olajide Adediran, also known as Jandor, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate, paid a visit to Mrs. Jennifer Efidi.

During the presidential and national assembly elections on Saturday, the citizen was beaten up by political thugs at a voting location in Surulere.

As one of the reasons why his party is working to topple the All Progressives Congress, APC, Jandor denounced the violence that was seen in some areas.

The flagbearer claimed that Jennifer became “a victim of the ruling party’s wickedness” months after the PDP first expressed concern about election-related violence.
