Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, LP, urged the Obidients on Tuesday to campaign for the party’s governorship candidates in the states of Nasarawa, Lagos, Enugu, Abia, Delta, Edo, Rivers, Plateau, and Borno ahead of Saturday’s election for governor. The election for governor will take place on Saturday.

During Saturday’s elections for governorships and state assemblies, Obi urged the Obidients to cast their ballots for the candidates backed by the LP in every state.

While he was on the phone, he bemoaned the fact that he was unable to campaign for the party’s candidates in different parts of the country.

Obi posted a series of tweets in which he stated, “I am supposed to commence our whistle-stop campaign for our various Labour Party Governorship and State Assembly Candidates today.” My initial itinerary called for me to visit a number of different states, including Nasarawa, Lagos, Enugu, Abia, Delta, Edo, Rivers, Plateau, Borno, and others.

“However, as a result of INEC’s refusal to permit our party to inspect the materials (including BVAS) from the presidential elections that took place on the 25th of February, I will personally be heading to the Court today with our attorneys.

“While we pursue due process and defer to the rule of law, I urge all of the Obidients in the various states to continue campaigning for our candidates. These include Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour in Lagos, Chijioke Edeoga in Enugu, Patrick Dakum in Plateau, Alex Otti in Abia, Ken Pela in Delta, and Ibrahim Mshelia in Borno, to name a few.”

Festus Keyamo (SAN), the minister of state for labor and productivity, has provided an explanation for why he isn’t listed among the top attorneys supporting Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s election victory.

Remember that the 50-person list of attorneys the All Progressives Congress (APC) released on Tuesday in support of Tinubu.

Wole Olanipekun, a former president of the Nigerian Bar Association, is in charge of the legal team. The legal legend will lead 49 additional attorneys in defending Tinubu’s victory at the presidential election tribunal.

In order to ensure that Tinubu defeated his bitter rivals Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party, LP, who have contested his victory, Olanipekun, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, worked with other legal luminaries.

With 8, 794,726 votes, Tinubu, the APC’s standard bearer, defeated Atiku and Obi to claim first place and second and third, respectively, in the presidential election that took place on February 25.

He received a Certificate of Return last Wednesday from Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of the Independent National Election Commission, INEC.

Keyamo, who also serves as the spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, provided an explanation for his absence from the 50-man list in a post on his verified Twitter account on Tuesday. He claimed that the Nigerian Constitution forbade a serving minister from performing such duties.

Currently serving cabinet members cannot join the Election Petition team until after the May 29 handover deadline, he pointed out.

The Independent National Electoral Commission requested permission to modify the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, which was used for the recently ended presidential election. The Court of Appeal, Abuja has set Wednesday as the day for considering the application’s merit.

Judge Joseph High postponed making a decision on the subject until Wednesday after the parties were heard by the court’s three-person panel.

The goal of the application, according to Obi and LP’s legal team, led by Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN, was to allow them to extract data from the BVAS that “reflect the actual results from Polling Units.”

They both applied for the Certified True Copy of every piece of information in the BVAS.
“My lords, the purpose of this is to protect the evidence before INEC reconfigures the BVAS. This is so that the case’s content won’t be affected if they are eliminated,” Ikpeazu, SAN, remarked.

However, INEC urged the court to reject the application through a team of four Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SAN, led by Mr. Tanimu Inuwa.
Obi and LP’s proposal, according to INEC, will have an impact on its planning for the upcoming governorship and state assembly elections.

Some 176 000 BVAS were deployed to polling places during the presidential election, it informed the court.

“Each polling location has a unique BVAS machine that we must set up for the next elections.

“It will be quite challenging for us to reconfigure the 176, 000 BVAS within the time.

“We will transfer all of the data in the BVAS to our backend server, as we have already mentioned in our affidavit, so no information in the BVAS will be lost.

“The BVAS must be set up. Thus, allowing this application would slow down the process and possibly cause the polls to be delayed, urged INEC’s attorney, Inuwa, SAN.

Godwin Ikuru, a self-styled prophet and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has come under fire from Aloy Ejimakor, the special counsel of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Ikuru reportedly threatened Igbos living in Lagos, telling them to pack their bags and leave Lagos in order to vote Peter Obi of the Labour Party, in a viral video that was reportedly shot after the February 25 presidential election.

Ejimakor responded by warning Tinubu that he “may be held liable for any carnage that happens” if he fails to condemn Ikuru’s threat.

On Tuesday, Bola Tinubu, the winner of the election for president, petitioned the Court of Appeal in Abuja to ask the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, to provide him access to sensitive materials used in the poll.

Through his attorney, Mr. Akintola Makinde, Tinubu stated that in order to prepare his defense against petitions that would seek to invalidate his election, he would need to examine, scan, and make duplicates of some of the electoral papers.

The materials will be helpful in assisting us in organizing our defense and in comparing them to the data on INEC’s back-end server, Makinde continued.

While INEC and the Labour Party were listed as respondents in Tinubu’s first ex-parte application, which was submitted on March 6, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its own candidate, Atiku Abubakar, were listed as respondents in the second application.

Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, the candidates for the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party, respectively, were each given orders to inspect the materials used for the previous presidential election. The Independent National Electoral Commission has urged the Presidential Election Petition Court to modify those orders.

In a move on notice submitted on March 4, INEC asks the court to change the ruling that barred it from tampering with election-related materials.

The Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, according to the commission, needed to be modified in time for the upcoming election.

Atiku of the PDP and Obi of the Labour Party were given permission by the appellate court to examine election documents used by INEC to conduct the February 25 presidential election on March 3 (the appeals court’s decision).
After two separate ex parte applications were submitted by Atiku and Obi, who finished second and third in the presidential election won by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, the court granted the two candidates’ requests.

The commission has asked the court to modify the injunction so that it can reconfigure its BVAS for the March 11 gubernatorial and state house of assembly elections in the application that it filed and that NAN was able to view.

The election umpire’s motion to the court, according to NAN, has just this one prayer.
For the application’s hearing, however, no date has been set.

According to a reliable source within the commission, the application was required as a result of a court order prohibiting it from altering the data stored on the BVAS machines until a proper inspection had been carried out and Certified True Copies of them had been given.

Diphtheria, a fatal disease that has killed at least sixty-one (61) individuals in Kano State since it first emerged a few weeks ago, has sparked worries.

The Military Forces and other security services have been praised by the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) for maintaining their neutrality during the most recent presidential and national assembly elections.

The association was also hopeful that Tinubu’s election as president-elect would bring about advancement and development in the nation, as he had done in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007.

The former Lagos governor has shown a consistent fidelity to progressive and welfarist ideals as well as an ability to build bridges across many divides, according to RTEAN National President Ambassador Musa Muhammed Maitakobi, in a statement signed by Deputy National President Administration Muhammed Bishara.
