THE GENERAL ELECTIONS OF 2023 HAVE PREDOMINANTLY BEEN CONCLUDED, yet they are one of the elections that will be remembered as having recorded some of the most shocking results in Nigeria’s history.

There is little doubt that the formation of the Labour Party (LP) was a pivotal moment and turning point in the history of the nation’s politics, at the very least since the country’s restoration to democratic rule in 1999.

The results of the presidential election were published by the Independent National Electoral Commission, and the party did not win the presidency. But, it is making headway inside the country’s National Assembly with some seats that it gained, despite the fact that it did not win the presidency.

The following is a list of some of the most prominent and significant election losers.
After six attempts, Atiku Abubakar is unsuccessful in gaining the presidency.

Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president, finished in second place in the presidential election that was held on February 25.

Atiku, who is 76 years old, has been running for the highest office in the country for the past 31 years, but he has never been successful.

He received 6,984,520 votes in the election that took place in February, placing him in second place behind Bola Tinubu, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), who received 8,794,726 votes.

He does not accept the outcome of the election.

According to a report by the ICIR, the politician who was born in Adamawa has little reason for optimism after his sixth bid for the presidency ended in failure.

Peter Obi was unable to pass through the channel.

Despite this being Peter Obi’s first time competing on the national stage, he did an outstanding job in the election.

He served as governor of Anambra State in the past and finished third in the poll with a total of 6,101,533 votes.

Obi and the majority of those who supported him in the election did not accept the results.

On Tuesday, March 21, the candidate for the LP submitted an official petition to the tribunal presiding over the presidential election.

Governors Ortom, Ugwuanyi, Ishaku, and Lalong, along with Ayade, were defeated.

During the Presidential and National Assembly election that took place on February 25, the ICIR reported that five outgoing governors lost their election to the Senate. These governors were running for a seat in the Senate.

These individuals are Samuel Ortom (from Benue), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (from Enugu), Darius Ishaku (from Taraba State), and Simon Lalong (from Plateau State), and Ben Ayade (Cross River).

The results of the election of two additional governors to the Senate are not included in the report. They are Kebbi State Governor Abubakar Bagudu and Okezie Ikpeazu, Governor of Abia State.

Bello Matawalle is unable to win reelection.

Lawal Dauda, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), defeated the incumbent governor of Zamfara, Bello Matawalle, in their race for reelection.

Dauda garnered 377,726 votes, which was enough to defeat Matawalle, who received 311, 976 votes.

After the Supreme Court declared that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) had violated the state’s constitution by failing to hold a legitimate primary election, Matawalle was appointed governor of the state.

During his time in office, the state was plagued by increased levels of insecurity brought on by banditry.

Ganduje’s party was soundly defeated in the Kano election

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s attempts to ensure that his party will continue to rule the state after his term ends on May 29, 2023 were unsuccessful.

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate for governorship, Kabir Abba Yusuf, was announced as the winner of the governorship election that took place on March 18.

By a significant margin, Yusuf was victorious in his race against the APC candidate, Nasir Gawuna, who was serving as the state’s incumbent deputy governor.

In total, Yusuf received 1,019,602 votes, while Gawuna received 890,705 votes.

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the leader of the NNPP and a former governor of the state who handed over power to his estranged and now humbled deputy, Ganduje, is elevated to a position of power as a result of the election’s outcome.

The incumbent senator and former governor Chimaroke Nnamani was unsuccessful in his bid for reelection.

Due to the murder of the People’s Liberal Party candidate Oyibo Chukwu three days before the election on February 25, the Enugu East senatorial election was unable to take place.

Following a postponement of the election caused by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) so that his party could choose his successor, his brother Kelvin Chukwu ran in his place and ultimately won the election on the new date of March 18th.

He was successful in his challenge to Nnamani, a former governor who had served at least two terms in the Senate.

The previous governor received 48,701 votes, but his opponent from the LP received 69,136, which put an end to his hopes of remaining in the Red Chamber.

Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tanmbuwal’s anointed successor, Saidu Umar, was defeated by Ahmed Aliyu of the APC in the election for Sokoto State governor.

Aliyu triumphed with 453,661 votes, defeating Umar, who received 404,632 votes in the election.

In 2015, during Tambuwal’s first term as governor, Aliyu served as the governor’s deputy.

Tambuwal emerged victorious after a run-off election with a narrow victory of 342 votes over the governor-elect, who had previously served as Tambuwal’s principal.

The candidate chosen by Simon Lalong to run for governor does not win.
Caleb Muftwang, who ran on the platform of the PDP, won the election for governor in Plateau, bringing the state back under the control of the PDP after it had been under the control of the APC since 2015.

Nentawe Yiltwada, a professor and the APC candidate, received a total of 481,370 votes, but Muftwang received 525,299 votes to easily defeat him as the APC candidate.

Ortom is unsuccessful in his bid for the Senate

Ortom is unsuccessful in his bid for the Senate, and he is also unable to install Titus Uba as speaker of the House of Assembly. Samuel Ortom, the governor of Benue State, was unable to install Uba as speaker of the House of Assembly after failing in his bid for the Senate.

Hyacinth Alia, a candidate for the APC and a Catholic priest, was declared the winner of the election by INEC.

Alia received 473,933 votes, defeating Uba of the PDP, who received 223,913 votes and finished in second place in the election.

The Oyetola camp of the APC is losing support.

It is possible that former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola’s political base in Osun has shrunk as a result of the resounding victory that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) achieved in the state House of Assembly election that was held in the state on March 18.

The PDP was victorious in 25 of the state’s 26 House of Assembly elections.

The PDP won every single seat that was up for grabs in 2019, with the exception of three.

The only seat that was won by the APC was the Boripe/Boluwaduro state constituency, which is the home district of the state’s former governor, Gboyega Oyetola.

At the governorship election that took place on July 16, 2022, Adeleke was successful in defeating Oyetola, who was running for re-election.

However, on January 27, 2023, a tribunal declared Adeleke’s election to be invalid because Oyetola challenged the outcome in court and was unhappy with the outcome.

The decision of the tribunal has been challenged by Adeleke.

Yobe Speaker’s hopes of serving for a sixth term are dashed by a 35-year-old
Ahmed Mirwa Lawan, who is 35 years old, had hoped to become Speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly for a sixth term. However, his hopes were dashed by a younger man.

Lawan, a candidate for the APC, was unsuccessful in his bid to unseat Lawan Musa, the candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

They both ran for the Nguru II Constituency seat in the election.

Since 2003, the Speaker has served as the representative for the constituency.

Musa won the race with 6,648 votes, beating out the Speaker, who received 6,466 votes.

In the meantime, in spite of the results that have been announced by INEC regarding the elections, The ICIR reports that parties who are dissatisfied with the results have the ability to challenge them in court and have the court rule in their favor.

Abba Kabir Yusuf of the NNPP was declared the winner of the recently concluded governor’s race, but the All Progressive Congress, or APC, in Kano has deemed the results to be invalid and unreliable and unable to withstand the test of time.

At a crowded press conference on Tuesday, Abdul Fagge, the legal advisor for the APC, stated that it was impossible for the election to be deemed successful with more than 270,000 votes being invalidated.

According to Section 65 of the Electoral Law 2022, he declared: “We have written to INEC to revisit and cancel the hasty, incorrect, and self-serving declaration of the NNPP as the election’s winner, and declared the conduct inconclusive.”
He claimed that since then, they have written to INEC requesting that they review the elections in accordance with electoral law provisions and declare them inconclusive within seven days.

According to Fagge, the INEC Returning Officer acted egotistically and in violation of the law.

He pointed out that since elections in Kano clearly descended into violence, if INEC could declare elections in Kebbi and Adamawa states inconclusive due to violence and excessive voting, it should do the same for those in Kano.

Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the majority leader of the House of Representatives, compared the National Assembly election with the governorship election, of which the former has been deemed inconclusive, in his remarks during the briefing.

Doguwa noted that 12 of the 13 polling places were closed due to violence and excessive voting, and he has since accepted his faith while awaiting the election’s reruns.
