Police academy launches online admission portal

The Nigeria Police Academy has launched an online application platform for interested and qualified Nigerian individuals to apply for its 10th regular course cadet degree program.

In a statement released on Monday in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated as much and added that the online registration procedure would last six weeks, from July 24 to September 3.

The opportunity to serve their country would be provided to both male and female Nigerians of excellent character, according to Adejobi, if they were admitted to the academy.

He states that candidates must be of Nigerian descent by birth, have a National Identity Number, and have a 2023 JAMB result with a score of at least 180.

The candidate must have listed the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, as his top choice on the JAMB application, according to the police spokesman.

The applicant, according to him, also needs to have earned at least six credits in WAEC/NECO or its equivalent in no more than two sittings, with credit passes in English and mathematics.

According to Adejobi, applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 21 as of October 31 and in good physical, mental, and medical health.

“The applicant must not be less than 1.67 meters tall for males and 1.64 meters tall for ladies, with not less than 86 cm (34 inches) of expanded chest measurement, for males only.

In addition to having a working phone number and email account, the applicant must not be married or expecting at the time of admission.

“Senior School Certificate Examination declarations of result or certificates before 2019 would not be acknowledged,” he stated.

Adejobi invited interested candidates who met the requirements to visit the academy’s website at https://www.polac.edu.ng and generate a Remita Retrieval Reference (RRR) number. He said that the application process was virtual.

He stated that the code would be used to pay a N3,500 non-refundable fee through any Nigerian commercial bank branch.

“A form that applicants must fill out and upload scanned copies of their SSCE results, birth certificate, and state of origin certificate will be made available when a successful payment has been made.

“Thereafter, applicants must print out completed online applications and guarantor documents to be filled out and submitted at the Nigeria Police Academy for the physical screening.

He stated, “Automated physical screening exercise will hold at the academy at a date to be notified in due course.

A computer-based test, a following automated medical screening procedure, and an automated interview/selection procedure would all be used to determine the successful candidates, according to the police spokesman.

According to him, successful candidates will go through a five-year academic and police training program before receiving a bachelor’s degree and being commissioned as Assistant Superintendent of Police II in the Nigerian Police Force.

Adejobi added that Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, the interim inspector general of police, had promised accountability and openness throughout the procedure.

He claimed that Egbetokun warned candidates to be aware of online imposters, scammers, and other criminal elements who would try to use the application process to engage in dishonest activities.

Dr. Kachi Nwoga, the Action Democratic Party’s candidate for governor, has criticized the Imo State Advertisement and Signage Agency for charging political parties N54 million to install campaign billboards before the November 11 election.

The ADP candidate called the advertisement fee excessive and mocked Imo Governor Hope Uzondimma for not allowing opposition parties in the State to breathe.

A copy of Nwoga’s letter, headlined “Petition Against N54m Campaign Levy Imposed on All Opposition Parties by Hope Uzodimma-led Imo Government,” which was addressed to the national office of the Inter-Party Advisory Council was provided to press.

The Imo politician voiced concern to reporters on Monday in Abuja that Uzodimma would gain an edge before the governorship election on November 11 by frustrating opposition parties.

The opposition cannot breathe, he declared. I am unable to go and set up a billboard today because, by the time they tell me I must spend N54 million to do so, I am unable to do so.

“I don’t know of any state anywhere where someone can charge this much money, even if you have to convert it to dollars. It’s offensive, horrifying, and sinful. They are requesting payment for that from the opposition.

“And I want to question because the entire state, from top to bottom, is covered with billboards for one specific person, if this is the cost of billboards. I really want to know how much the state has made from that one guy.”

Nwoga’s letter came in response to a circular sent out by Chibuzor Umunnakwe, the general manager of the IMSAA, advising all political parties taking part in the upcoming governorship election to obtain permissions prior to building political billboards, out-of-home displays, and supplementary materials.

Despite the letter’s June 7 date, the agency insisted that the pricing, terms, and conditions were in place as of April 1.

Political candidates who want to use outdoor or public displays must obtain, complete, and submit the IMSAA application for outdoor political campaign advertisement form, according to the letter.

“The form or a separate document attached should list all potential billboard locations, including those that are for rent. These would be considered temporary constructions if the candidate or the candidate’s supporters were going to build the locations.

“Candidates shall pay the applicable fees as set forth below upon approval of the form’s content. Candidates will get a compliance confirmation letter from the agency if the IMSAA deems all processes satisfactory.

The application form fee, according to Umunnakwe, is N100,000. The “governatorial Campaign Permit charge” is N54,000,000.

According to him, the site inspection price for campaign approval is N50,000 and applies to billboards that the candidate created rather than those that were rented; the approval charge is N150,000.

Subsidy: Kwara gov grants N10,000 monthly palliative for workers

The governor of Kwara State, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has approved a palliative payment of N10,000 per month for employees.

With the recent withdrawal of gasoline subsidies and its associated economic effects, workers would get N10,000 per month as a palliative.

At a news conference on Monday at the Government House in Ilorin, the governor’s chief press secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, announced the government’s choice.

“On top of the palliatives is a financial support of N10,000 for every public sector employee in the state, which will start this month (July) and last until a new minimum wage is imposed to help workers deal with the economic shocks generated by the subsidy reduction,” Ajakaye added.

 

“The governor has directed the leadership of the civil service to continue a staggered work schedule — not to exceed three days a week — to reduce transportation expenses for workers,” he said. “This is in deference to the new advisory of the National Economic Council for states to design their own independent responses to the development.”

Kwara had already implemented a 3-day workweek for its civil personnel but delayed it in observance of an earlier NEC guideline urging states to hold off on responding to the development until a more comprehensive response was available.

The governor’s spokeswoman underlined that the staggered work schedule will not apply to “critical staff.”

“The governor has also approved the payment of new hazard and skipping allowances, as well as 100% CONMESS for consultants and medical professionals under the government payroll, effective this month, July.

He also gave his approval to a new system of benefits for nurses employed by the state government. The goal is to reduce attrition in the healthcare industry and recruit and keep specialists and doctors so that the state’s citizens may receive better, higher-quality healthcare services, he added.

The immediate cash-backing of promotions for 2019 and 2020 for Teaching Service Commission employees has also received the governor’s support. For TESCOM for the years 2015–2018, the administration had previously paid arrears of promotion.

“In the same line, he has approved financial support for the promotion process for SUBEB’s teaching and non-teaching personnel in 2021 as well as the restoration of steps for everyone. This is a policy solution to SUBEB employees’ longings since 2016, when steps ceased to exist for SUBEB employees.

“The Governor also approved the expansion of free bus trips for students attending higher institutions in the state, and in the coming days, protocols for sporadic food distribution to the most vulnerable and impoverished homes would go into effect.

“This shall be nonpartisan and shall be coordinated by a government team to be assisted by respected stakeholders who would receive input from traditional rulers, religious bodies, market leaders, trade unionists, and community-based organizations to generate the beneficiary lists and disburse in accordance with those lists.

The goal of these actions, which consume billions of naira in taxpayer money, is to demonstrate compassion and use all available resources to assist the populace during this important period.

The Kwara State Social Investment Programme (KWASSIP), which would activate N500 million in conditional support for MSMEs and tiny merchants in the state, has also received the Governor’s approval.

The recently launched Sustainable growth Goals Youth Club at Lagos State University has inspired confidence on the part of the Lagos State Government that it will spur growth outside of universities.

At the club’s inauguration and induction of some university students, the permanent secretary of the office of sustainable development goals and investment, Abosede George, stated that the club’s goal was to create a more inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous society in accordance with the T.H.E.M.E.S. PLUS Agenda of the governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration.

George underlined the government’s intention to develop leaders who would carry the torch forward and build on the foundations set by the Sanwo-Olu administration for a sustainable future during his keynote presentation at the ceremony held at the school’s Ojo site.

According to George, the establishment of the Lagos State University SDGs Youth Club heralds a new era of active citizen participation and collaboration in advancing sustainable development both inside and outside of the university environment.

Oshiomhole went on to say that tackling problems like the fuel price increase, unemployment, and other issues will take more than a single day.

He believes that the president deserves praise for the way that he has gotten right to work since taking office.

To be honest, just because a doctor is committed to treating a patient and claims to understand the nature of the sickness the patient is suffering from does not indicate that a cure will appear as soon as the patient is wheeled into the operating room.

“I believe President Bola Tinubu has demonstrated dedication. He stopped providing the subsidies and acknowledged that one of the things we need to do is raise wages in the official sector. The other is to set aside some money to offer to those who are in need,” he remarked.

In a statement by his media office, Senator Barau also named Idris Abiola Ajimobi, the son of the late Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, as Special Adviser (Special Duties); Yusuf Aliyu Tumfafi, Special Adviser (Political); Mrs. Ngozi Ndawi Nkemdirim, a pioneer staff of the National Assembly, Special Adviser (Administration); and Shitu Madaki Kunchi, Special Assistant (Media & Publicity).

 

Born in Faruruwa, Shanono LGA, Kano State, Prof. Muhammad Ibn Abdullahi previously served as the school of continuing education’s head of department at Bayero University Kano (BUK).

The professor of guidance and counseling holds a Ph.D. in guidance and counseling from BUK, an M.Ed. in guidance and counseling from Unijos, and a B.A. (Ed) in Islamic Studies from BUK.

Professor of Animal Science Bashir Muhammad Fagge is a native of Fagge in the Fagge LGA of Kano State. He received his B.Sc. in Agriculture from Usmanu Danfodiyo University in Sokoto and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University.

Between 2015 and 2023, he was the Provost of the Federal College of Education Technical in Bichi, Kano State. He participated in the Senior Executive Course 40 at Kuru, Jos, Plateau State’s National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

Ismail Mudashir was born in Zamfara State but is a native of Kwara State. He served as the Daily Trust Newspapers’ Deputy General Editor prior to this assignment.

He served as the Regional Editor (Kano), Group Politics Editor, State House Correspondent, and Head of the National Assembly while working for Daily Trust. In 2003, he began working as a journalist for the Kaduna-based New Nigerian Newspapers (NNN).

For his undergraduate and graduate studies, he studied mass communication at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Kwara State; Kaduna Polytechnic; Bayero University, Kano; and Jamia Millia Islamia University, New Delhi, India.

Idris Abiola Ajimobi, the late Oyo State Governor’s son, attended primary and secondary schools in Nigeria before relocating to England to further his education. In 2004, he earned a degree in business management after completing his studies there. In London, he also earned a Master’s in International Relations.

Mrs. Ngozi Ndawi Nkemdirim is an Imo State native who was born in Jos, Plateau State. The Cross River State native has thirty years of National Assembly experience. She is a graduate of the University of Calabar.

She served as the Senate’s Director of Journals and Procedure prior to her appointment. She graduated with a Master’s in International Administration in 2008 from London Metropolitan University in the United Kingdom. She has participated in numerous training sessions on drafting legislation and parliamentary procedure.

The appointees were chosen, according to Barau, who represents Kano North Senatorial District, based on their track records in their respective fields. He stated that the appointments are effective right away.

The final lists of selected applicants for the Narcotic Officer and Narcotic Assistant cadres recruitment exercise in 2023 have been made public by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.

Successful candidates for cadet, trainee positions are to report at the NDLEA Academy in Jos and the NSCDC College of Peace and Disaster Management in Katsina states, respectively, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi.

The statement said, in part, “The under-listed successful candidates are therefore to report for Narcotic Officers Basic (Cadet) training at the NDLEA Academy, Kotton Rikus, Jos Plateau State, while the Narcotic Agent/Assistant (Trainees) will report for their training at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps College of Peace and Disaster Management, KM 4 Babbar-Ruga Batsari Road, Katsina State.

“All successful applicants are required to report for training at their separate designated centers in accordance with their groupings and on the dates set aside for their groups.

He also said that successful candidates must show up for training with a photocopy of their certificates and other materials.

Armed forces in Zamfara kill four bandits

In Zamfara State’s Maradun Local Government Area, four bandits were killed by Operation Hadarin Daji soldiers on Friday.

A trustworthy source told Sunday PUNCH that this was true, adding that the troops stationed at the Forward Operation Base in Faru village were informed by the bandits that Bagabuzu village was about to be attacked.

The brave troops responded quickly to the information and mobilized to the area, where they engaged the armed bandits in a gunfight and prevented them from entering the villages, the speaker continued. The encounter resulted in the neutralization of four bandits while others fled with gunshot wounds. The troops also found one FN rifle, 123 rounds of specialized ammunition, and one general purpose machine gun while repelling the attack.

According to him, in a recently organized operation, the troops cleared bandit camps at the villages of Mutuwa, Guda Tudu, Kawar, Dantayawa, Gidan Kare, Mahuta, and Gyado in the states of Zamfara and Sokoto, respectively.
