Behind the Scenes of the APC Governors’ Strategic Lagos Meeting

0

All of the governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent re-engineering of the national security architecture, pointing out that the government’s commitment to protect citizens’ lives and property cannot be compromised.

The governors convened in Lagos for a two-day strategic discussion under the auspices of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) to examine various issues impacting the country’s situation.

The gathering was hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu at the Eko Hotels & Suites on Victoria Island.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Forum—led by Senator Hope Uzodimma, the governor of Imo State—reiterated its faith in Nigeria’s future as a cohesive, peaceful, and successful nation in a communiqué.

During the meeting, Forum members reviewed the nation’s security situation and thanked President Tinubu for what they described as “improved coordination” between federal, state, and local security structures, as well as for the bravery and sacrifices made by security agencies and community volunteers.

The APC Governors praised the President’s management of security issues, emphasizing that the President’s re-engineering of the nation’s security architecture was necessary.

Gov. Uzodimma read the communiqué and stated that the PGF decided to support the President’s efforts by strengthening intelligence collection, community-based security initiatives, conflict-prevention mechanisms, and assistance for victims of disasters and violence.

“The Forum reviewed the security situation across the country and expressed appreciation for the courage and sacrifices of security agencies and community volunteers, as well as improved coordination between federal, state, and local security structures,” the communiqué states. We therefore decided to make every member state’s local security architecture stronger.

“The Forum applauded Mr. President for continuing to reengineer the nation’s security architecture. Governors reaffirmed that the government’s duty to protect people and property cannot be compromised. In addition to providing assistance to victims of violence and natural disasters, we decided to keep bolstering community-based security programs, intelligence collection, and conflict-prevention techniques.

PGF reviewed the nation’s political, economic, and social landscape and noted that reforms should prioritize enhancing lives, upholding people’ dignity, and increasing possibilities for Nigerians.

The Forum praised the President for his Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to stabilize the economy and establish the groundwork for long-term growth.

“The Forum reviewed the state of the economy and the cost-of-living pressures being experienced by citizens, acknowledging the temporary burdens that accompany necessary macro-economic reforms,” Uzodimma stated. In addition to expressing profound gratitude for the sacrifices being made in the shared goal of a more robust and inclusive economy, governors recognized Nigerians’ tenacity and tolerance.

“We decided to step up state-level initiatives in sectors like food production and distribution, assistance for small and medium-sized businesses, youth employment, social protection for the most vulnerable and impoverished, and targeted relief for low-income households and workers.

“To ensure that things continue to improve, that no group is left behind, and that the gains of reforms continue to translate into visible improvements in the quality of life of the people, the Progressive Governors are committed to working closely with Federal institutions and local governments.”

Infrastructure, urban regeneration, and rural development are crucial for boosting productivity, drawing in investment, and raising living standards, according to the Forum.

The governors resolved to strengthen peer-learning and interstate cooperation in these areas and praised Lagos State in particular for its innovative funding models, transportation reforms, and urban renewal.

With an emphasis on access and inclusion for all communities, the PGF decided to increase investments in roads, housing, public transportation, water and sanitation, digital connectivity, and climate-resilient infrastructure.

It emphasized the importance of designing and delivering infrastructure in a way that is socially equitable, environmentally conscious, and sensitive to the needs of women, youth, people with disabilities, and other frequently marginalized groups.

“The Forum reaffirmed that delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots level requires effective local governance,” stated Uzodimma. In accordance with the Constitution and in collaboration with pertinent stakeholders, governors decided to intensify reforms intended to enhance accountability, transparency, and service delivery in local government administration.

We decided to increase the number of venues for citizen participation, such as town hall meetings, consultations with religious and traditional leaders, civil society, labor, professional associations, youth, and women’s organizations. The Forum reaffirmed that maintaining democratic legitimacy and fostering trust depend on listening to the public, clearly communicating government policies, and modifying implementation tactics in response to input.

The Forum also reaffirmed its steadfast support for the APC and praised the party’s leadership for its initiatives to improve inclusivity, discipline, internal democracy, and reconciliation.

The Governors promised to keep the party stable while making sure the APC remained committed to fulfilling its mandate.

The Forum reiterated its unwavering support for the policies of APC governments at all levels and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. PGF emphasized that Progressive Governors view themselves as trustees of the mandate of the people and as a group of leaders who work together to translate Nigerians’ ambitions into real social and economic results throughout the federation.

The Forum emphasized the value of interfaith harmony, interethnic understanding, and societal cohesion. It urged leaders to use their platforms and voices to promote harmony, moderation, and respect while denouncing crime and hate speech in all of its manifestations.

Tinubu Under Pressure as Ndume Demands Withdrawal of Ambassadorial List

0

Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to withdraw the list of 65 ambassadorial nominees recently sent to the Senate. According to him, the list violates the federal character principle and does not meet constitutional requirements for fair representation across states and geopolitical zones.

Ndume, a former Senate Leader and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said the nomination list should be replaced before next week’s Senate screening. He made the statement in Abuja on Saturday, December 6, 2025.

He warned that, at a time like this, the president must avoid actions capable of fuelling ethnic tension or public distrust. “I appeal to him to withdraw the list and present a fresh set of nominees that align with the spirit of the Constitution,” he said.

Ndume pointed out that while some states received as many as three or four slots, others — including Gombe State — got none. He added that Yobe State’s only nominee, Senator Adamu Garba Talba, died in July, yet his name still appeared on the list. He further noted that the entire North-East got only seven slots.

He also highlighted the distribution across zones: South-West (15 nominees), North-West (13), South-East (9), North-Central (10), and South-South (12).

President Tinubu had earlier forwarded the nominee list to the Senate for screening and confirmation. Senate President Godswill Akpabio referred the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for processing.

In an earlier development, Tinubu sent another batch of 32 ambassadorial nominees — including high-profile figures such as Reno Omokri and Femi Fani-Kayode — to the Senate. These nominees were expected to be posted to key countries and international organisations pending Senate approval.

PDP’s Kola Ologbondiyan Resigns, Points to Personal Reasons

0

Kola Ologbondiyan, the former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has formally left the party, claiming personal reasons.

Ologbondiyan released a letter dated December 5, 2025, to the Chairman of Okekoko Ward (09), Kabba/Bunu Local Government, Kogi State, in a statement posted on 𝕏 on Saturday. In the letter, he formally informed the party of his desire to depart.

Ologbondiyan stated in the letter marked “Notification of Membership Withdrawal” that he had decided it was time to leave the PDP after giving his time in the party some thought.

“It is now necessary to draw your attention to the fact that I have examined my involvement in the PDP and have determined that I must leave for personal reasons,” he said.

“I have therefore come to a decision to formally withdraw my membership of the PDP, henceforth,” he stated, emphasizing that his decision to leave the party was final.

Ologbondiyan thanked the party leadership for giving him the chance to serve Nigeria and the party despite his resignation. He expressed gratitude to the PDP leadership for giving him trust and responsibility throughout his time there.

In the letter, he stated, “Let me begin by thanking you and other levels of leadership in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the opportunities provided for me to serve both the party and our fatherland, Nigeria.”

Ndume Calls on President Tinubu to Retract Ambassadorial Nominee List

0

President Bola Tinubu has been urged by former Senate Leader Ali Ndume to remove the list of ambassadorial nominations that were recently submitted to the Senate for review and confirmation.

According to reports, Ndume filed the appeal on Thursday in Abuja, claiming worries that the list goes against Nigeria’s Constitution’s Federal Character principle.

Ndume, speaking on behalf of Borno South, contended that the diversity mandated by Section 14(3) of the Nigerian Constitution, which requires that the makeup of governmental organizations reflect the nation’s federal character, is not reflected in the current nominations for ambassador.

Ndume claims that the list displays an uneven distribution of nominations, with some states having more than one representative while others are excluded.

He noted that Gombe State had no representation at all, the Northeast, where Ndume is from, had just seven nominees, and states like the Southwest had fifteen.

Ndume also brought attention to the passing of Yobe State’s sole nominee, Senator Adamu Garba Talba, who died in July. He claimed that this made the list even more unfair and left the state unrepresented in the nominations.

Ndume emphasized that the ambassadorial list issue might weaken national cohesion and exacerbate ethnic tensions in addition to being a question of public perception. In the interest of justice and diversity, he asked President Tinubu to reevaluate the nominees.

“The composition of the Government of the Federation or any of its agencies and the conduct of its affairs shall be carried out in a way that reflects the federal character of Nigeria and the need to promote national unity and also to command national loyalty, thereby ensuring that there shall be no predominance of persons from a few states or from a few ethnic or other sectional groups in that government or in any of its agencies,” he stated.

“I respectfully request that President Tinubu remove this list. He should steer clear of mistakes that could jeopardize national unity and foster ethnic mistrust at this crucial juncture in his leadership.

“I am aware that he is a multicultural leader who gets along with all groups and stakeholders in the nation.

“He should remove that list and submit a new list of candidates who will be in line with the Federal Character Principle of the Constitution, which states that the government’s operations and structure must reflect Nigeria’s various states and peoples.”

Benue Military Operation Frees 14 Hostages from Orokam Forest

During a coordinated expedition inside Orokam Forest, a border zone between Udenu LGA of Enugu State and Ogbadigbo LGA of Benue State, troops from the Nigerian Army’s Joint Task Force, Sector One, Operation Udo Ka (OPUK), in collaboration with Neighbourhood Watch, released 14 kidnapped individuals.

Zagazola Makama was briefed by security sources that the operation was conducted on Friday at approximately 1:30 p.m. after locals provided actionable intelligence that indicated the location of a suspected kidnappers’ camp concealed within the forest.

One of the sources claims that troops stationed in Udenu LGA went straight to the scene with Neighbourhood Watch members.

The outlaws opened fire on the troops as they got closer to the hideout. The kidnappers were forced to flee in confusion and abandon the abducted victims as a result of the joint team’s heavy fire response, according to the source.

All 14 of the victims who were kidnapped over the weekend while coming from a funeral were safely and unharmedly recovered, according to the sources.

According to preliminary results, the kidnapped people were from two distinct communities: Orokam in Ogbadigbo LGA, Benue State, and Ezimo Agu in Udenu LGA, Enugu State.

Later, the casualties were turned over to the Udenu Division Divisional Police Officer so they could be reunited with their relatives right away.

The source claims that during the shootout, troops shot 70 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and returned to their base at approximately 7:21 p.m. without reporting any casualties.

In order to stop criminal gangs from regrouping or working freely, security agents have now increased monitoring throughout the area, according to the sources.

Ex-Military Chief Buratai Denies Connection to Terrorism Funding Allegations

0

Lt. General Tukur Buratai (rtd), a former Chief of Army Staff and Ambassador to the Benin Republic, has vehemently refuted claims that he financed terrorists, calling them wholly false and at odds with his principles.

In a statement signed by Brig. General Sani Kukasheka Usman, a former Army spokesperson, Buratai made this claim on Saturday in reaction to an online exposé that accused him and other notable people of having ties to terrorism financing.

The statement called the allegations “false, unfounded, mischievous” and said they were a part of a smear effort meant to damage Buratai’s reputation. It emphasized that he had never been questioned, looked into, or connected to the funding of terrorism during his illustrious military career.

“He has never been questioned, investigated, indicted, or associated with any such matter by any official body or authority at any point in his distinguished career,” the statement states.

“He has never been connected in any way to the financing of terrorism by any security institution, intelligence agency, court, diplomatic mission, oversight mechanism, or administrative body.”

The former Army chief refuted the accusations, stating that they were based only on Major General Danjuma Ali-Keffi’s (rtd) unconfirmed personal assertions in the Sahara Reporters piece. The publishing, according to him, was a “clear misrepresentation borne out of malice” with no legal or factual foundation.

Buratai’s statement also denounced the online magazine for its repeated attempts over the years to damage his reputation, all of which were unsuccessful because of his long-standing, open, and honorable service to Nigeria.

The statement stated, “His record remains forthright, transparent, and distinguished by honorable service to the nation, which is why every attempt has failed.”

Buratai had served the nation with “honour, courage, and steadfast commitment” to combating terrorism for more than 40 years, according to the statement. It emphasized his leadership in the Nigerian Army’s battle against ISWAP and Boko Haram, which resulted in the resettlement of displaced Nigerians, the recovery of territory, the restoration of civil administration, and the considerable degradation of these terrorist organizations.

The statement continued, “It defies logic and conscience to suggest that the same person who led decisive actions against terrorism would in any way be associated with the very elements he spent his career confronting.”

Major General Ali-Keffi (rtd) and Sahara Reporters were urged by Buratai’s legal team to promptly withdraw the accusations and apologize in public. The statement cautioned that Buratai would be forced to take legal action to defend his name if he didn’t comply.

“If this isn’t done, we will have no choice but to take appropriate legal action to safeguard his reputation and seek compensation for this malicious attack,” the statement stated.

Shock in Ibadan as JCI President-Elect Ibukun Otesile Is Kidnapped

0

Ibukun Otesile, the president-elect of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Ibadan Elite for 2025, has been abducted, according to the Nigeria Police Force’s Oyo State command.

Otesile was reportedly kidnapped on Thursday night in front of her residence in the General Gas neighborhood of Akobo, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Adewale Osifeso, the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), confirmed the situation and said that the incident happened on Thursday at approximately 8:00 p.m. “On Thursday night, she was abducted. The investigation is still in progress, Osifeso stated.

Otesile, a mother of two, is the daughter of Olalekan Babatunde, the founder and general overseer of Jesus Is King Ministries in Ibadan.

On Friday, the news of her kidnapping swiftly went viral on social media, causing a great deal of worry.

Olamide Olanrewaju, the personal assistant of Apostle Joshua Sola Akinyemiju, the departing Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Oyo State, confirmed the occurrence to reporters and provided information about the distress warning. Olanrewaju claims that the association was informed at around 8:45 p.m. on Thursday.

Her father is a member of our group on WhatsApp. According to Olanrewaju, the CAN chairman posted it as a distress cry, claiming that Reverend (Dr.) Lekan Babatunde’s daughter had been abducted.

“Everyone in the group started saying, ‘Prayer, prayer, prayer,’ as they became anxious. Everyone was praying, including religious leaders. I remarked that while prayer is beneficial, we also need to act morally.

Before sharing the notice, Olanrewaju included Rev. Moses, the chaplain of the Police Force Headquarters in Oyo State, in the same WhatsApp group.

“I found out that she had been abducted at General Gas’s front gate. Olanrewaju continued, “Only God knows what she was doing there, where she went, or who she was with.”

“This night, Thursday, December 4, around 8:00 p.m., the daughter of our beloved Reverend Dr. Lekan Babatunde was kidnapped,” the CAN distress alert states. The mother of two, Ibukun Otesile, was abducted in front of her gate at General Gas, Akobo.

Following the kidnapping, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) demanded that the Nigerian Police Force and the Nigerian Army Headquarters use all available resources to secure Otesile’s safe and prompt release.

Malami Breaks Silence, Dismisses Claims Tying Him to Terrorism Funding

0

Following a report by SaharaReporters that listed him among Nigerians allegedly related to terror financiers, former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami fiercely denied accusations that he was involved in financing terrorism.

According to the report, which was released on Friday, two suspects detained during a counterterrorism probe were “linked to” Malami and other well-known Nigerians.

Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Malami denied any role in financing terrorists in a statement posted on his Facebook page. He emphasized that he has never been charged, looked into, or suspected of financing terrorism by Nigerian or foreign authorities.

“My attention has been drawn to a recent publication in which my name was mentioned in connection with allegations of terrorism financing and so-called “links” to persons described as terror suspects or alleged financiers,” the statement says.

“I believe the following clarifications are required for the sake of justice, truth, and public record.

“First, I declare categorically and absolutely that I have never been charged, accused, invited, questioned, investigated, or investigated for financing terrorism or any associated offense by any security, law enforcement, regulatory, or intelligence organization, either inside or outside of Nigeria.

Second, even the retired military commander who was quoted as the main source in the aforementioned article unequivocally acknowledged that he was not accusing me or any other specified individuals of funding terrorism. According to reports, his own description was restricted to an ambiguous claim that some suspects reportedly had “business” or “institutional” relationships with different individuals. Unfortunately, that crucial clarification was overshadowed by a headline and framing that could lead well-meaning people to draw incorrect and harmful conclusions. These conclusions were then politically manipulated by my political opponents to create mischievous insinuations that suggested I was involved in financing terrorism.

Financing terrorism is a serious offense that has disastrous effects on both human life and national security. Any attempt to link a person to such an offense—whether by direct accusation or indirect innuendo—must be based on verified evidence, due process, and legal conclusions rather than conjecture, speculation, or guilt by association. It is dishonest and unfair to imply that legitimate professional or institutional interactions might be interpreted as proof of financing terrorism in the absence of additional information.

For the avoidance of doubt, any suggestion that I was involved in the funding of terrorism is directly refuted by my official record in office. I collaborated with other branches of government and pertinent organizations while serving as Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice in order to fortify Nigeria’s institutional and legal framework against money laundering and the funding of terrorism, rather than weaken it.

“To meet international standards on operational autonomy and to restore Nigeria’s standing within the international financial intelligence community, the Federal Government established an independent Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) by law through cooperative efforts involving the Federal Ministry of Justice, the National Assembly, and other stakeholders.

“The Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, which repealed the previous Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act and offered a more thorough and strict framework for combating money laundering and related offenses, including those that may underpin terrorism financing, was enacted with our support.

In a similar vein, we worked on the enactment and execution of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, which updated offenses and penalties, strengthened Nigeria’s legal framework against terrorism, and strengthened provisions that specifically addressed the financing of terrorism in accordance with international norms and UN obligations.

“To improve coordination, information-sharing, and compliance across the anti-money-laundering and counter-terrorism-financing (AML/CFT) architecture, my office collaborated closely with important domestic institutions, including the NFIU, the Central Bank of Nigeria, law enforcement, and regulatory agencies, as well as with international partners.”

Okanga’s Christmas Outreach Message Sparks Reactions as Constituency Commends His Continued Generosity

0

A new community message circulating across Enone Constituency has set off a wave of mixed reactions as residents reflect on the annual Christmas support programme championed by Hon. Chief Dr. Philip Agbese, widely known as Okanga. The message suggests that anyone who does not receive support this festive season may need to reconsider their level of engagement and obligations within the constituency.

The statement also urges residents to stand with leaders who demonstrate genuine compassion and uphold the values of humanity, noting that Okanga’s commitment places him in a unique class of his own.

A key highlight of the message draws attention to the consistency of the lawmaker’s welfare interventions since his inauguration.

It reads:
“Since Dr. Hon. Philip Agbese took over office, he has not failed to generously give Christmas celebration materials and food items that could carry every family from December all through January to March the next. These provisions help keep the entire community healthy and supported. He has repeated this act of kindness once again in 2025.”

Residents across Enone have acknowledged the wide-reaching impact of this yearly outreach, especially at a time when economic pressures continue to affect households. Many beneficiaries describe Okanga’s programme as one of the most reliable support systems available to families during the festive period.

The circulating message further asserts that “only Okanga can achieve what no politician in Enone has ever done,” a claim that has sparked ongoing discussions both online and offline. While a large number of constituents praise his efforts, others caution against overstated expectations, noting that government programmes should aim for inclusiveness and fairness.

Community analysts observe that the festive distribution has become an important reference point for grassroots engagement in Enone, highlighting the influence of Okanga’s welfare initiatives on public perception. They also note that heightened political interest often accompanies such programmes, especially as election cycles draw near.

Although Hon. Agbese has not personally commented on the statement, his office has repeatedly emphasized that his outreach efforts are for all residents of Enone, regardless of political affiliation.

As the 2025 Christmas season unfolds, community elders and opinion leaders are calling for continued peace, cooperation, and gratitude, stressing that unity remains essential for the constituency’s progress.

Dangote Opens Up on Plans to Cut Petrol Prices Following Talks With Tinubu

0

In order to maintain competitiveness with importers, Aliko Dangote, the founder and president/chief executive of Dangote Group, has reiterated that his refinery will keep lowering gas prices.

Following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock on Monday, Dangote told State House media that the refinery’s continuous pricing adjustments were a part of initiatives to increase the competitiveness of Nigeria’s domestic petroleum prices.

“The cost is decreasing. We must lower prices because we must compete with imports, Dangote stated. He went on to say that despite changes in the price of crude oil throughout the world, Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals is still dedicated to upholding pricing stability.

The refinery reduced its fuel gantry price from ₦877 to ₦828 per litre on November 6, 2025, a 5.6% decrease. Its coastal price also decreased to ₦806 per litre from ₦854.

Dangote recognized that smuggling remains a major issue despite efforts to reduce fuel prices. Fortunately for us, however, there is still some smuggling. Because the prices in Nigeria are roughly 55% lower than those in our neighboring nations, there is still a significant amount of smuggling, he noted.

He went into detail regarding the difficulties caused by the large price difference, pointing out that petrol in neighboring nations costs between ₦1,500 and ₦1,600 per litre, while in Nigeria, the price is around ₦800.

“There is so much money to be made that people will continue to smuggle regardless of how you police the borders,” he continued.

Nigerians were reassured by Dangote that petroleum items, such as gasoline and diesel, will be available at fair pricing. He underlined that the refinery’s objective is to create a long-term, sustainable business rather than to rapidly recoup its $20 billion investment.

Dangote stated, “We are not here to make our $20 billion back quickly; it’s a long-term investment.”

Dangote praised President Tinubu’s vision and the efforts of the ministerial committee in charge of the Naira for Crude policy, calling it a win-win situation for Nigeria. However, he pointed out that one of the difficulties was obtaining crude oil from foreign vendors.

Because Nigerian petroleum sells for a high price, some foreign oil corporations aren’t really prepared or willing to sell for us. I think the government’s new budget would address this teething issue,” Dangote said.

Additionally, he revealed that the refinery has informed the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) of its capacity to provide 50 million liters of gasoline every day, greatly easing Nigeria’s protracted fuel scarcity.

Fuel lines have plagued Nigeria since 1972, but Dangote emphasized that his refinery is assisting in their eradication. He also mentioned that Nigeria is now providing fuel to the United States and Europe for the first time.

We’ll be able to offer roughly 15 to 20 million liters more than Nigeria’s needs by February. We must thus continue to export,” he stated.

Dangote announced plans for future growth, aiming to make the refinery the biggest in the world by 2028.

“We will defeat India’s Reliance. Our daily output will be 1.4 million barrels, compared to Reliance’s 1.25 million. We have already signed the necessary agreements, and we will begin piling for the expansion by January. It will be delivered on time,” he added.
