A bogus online loan application that is making the rounds on social media platforms has alerted Nigerians, according to Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Alongside the coat of arms and emblem of the Central Bank of Nigeria, or CBN, the phony offer, headlined “N200,000 Palliative Loan By the Senate,” includes an inaccurate picture of Akpabio.
Under the false pretense of offering rapid loan approval, the misleading plan was shared on Facebook by an account called Templeshort.
A statement by the official spokesperson for the President of the Senate, Hon Eseme Eyiboh, announced that the Senate has no affiliation with Templeshort and is not associated with any Facebook handle operating under that name.
The statement urged members of the public to pay no attention to the advertisement as it did not originate from the Office of the President of the Senate.
Eyiboh described it as the product of fraudulent and unethical individuals attempting to exploit naive Nigerians, emphasizing that Akpabio is not participating in any lending scheme or palliative care arrangement.
“Senator Godswill Akpabio is not collaborating with the CBN or any other financial institution on any loan facility as a form of palliative,” the Hon. Eyiboh said.
Eyiboh further urged the public to avoid such scams and to report any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
