On Monday, January 14, 2025, Mudashiru Obasa’s tenure as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly came to an end when he was impeached by more than two-thirds of the 40-member legislative body for suspected misbehavior and other misdeeds. He had served in that capacity for approximately ten years.

The first woman to lead the South-West state’s legislature was Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, Obasa’s deputy, who was chosen Speaker right away.
