On Tuesday, former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, ex-Chief Security Officer to late Gen Sani Abacha, Hamza Al Mustapha, Chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Shehu Gabam, and a Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, official, Segun Sowunmi, met for a strategic discussion.
The quartet gathered to discuss the current condition of opposition democracy involvement in Nigeria.
In a post on X, Sowunmi stated that a strategic meeting with HE Shehu Gabam, Chairman of SDP, and HE @elrufai, El-Rufai, Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, Otunba Segun Sowunmi is necessary to review the state of opposition democratic engagement in Nigeria.
This comes after El-Rufai denied defecting from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Rumours arose that El-Rufai was set to defect to the PDP.
However, the former governor replied, “Please reject the flagrant lies and rumors regarding my political allegiance. I have directed the main peddlers of bogus news to my lawyers for future action.
In 2022, presidential spokesman Daniel Bwala stated that El-Rufai would defect to the PDP before the 2023 general election.
El-Rufai had also disputed the report, writing on X, “Thanks @BwalaDaniel, but no, thanks.” Never, not even my body, will be found in the proximity of your newly formed political organization. “I still laugh.”
