The abducted pupils and teachers from Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have been released after spending more than 50 days in the custody of their abductors.

This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Bayo Onanuga, in a post via his 𝕏 handle on Friday.

Onanuga said security forces rescued the teachers and pupils.

Also in the news, a joint security team comprising operatives of the Oyo State Police Command, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilantes and hunters have rescued a couple abducted by suspected kidnappers in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.

The victims, Alhaji Busiru Booni and his wife, Alhaja Pitiku, were rescued unhurt after a gun duel between the security operatives and the suspected kidnappers at their forest hideout.

Tiro Village in Irawo was reportedly invaded by about five armed men late on Saturday, July 5, 2026, and the couple was abducted.

The attackers were reported to have shot several times before abducting the couple to an unknown destination.

The Oyo State Police Command said the Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered the immediate search-and-rescue operation after being made aware of the abduction.

The operation involved police officers, Amotekun personnel, community vigilantes and local hunters who know the terrain.

As per the command, the team had an early break when they recovered a Bajaj motorcycle, which was reported stolen and later abandoned in a nearby bush.
