China Supports Russia, Ukraine To Resolves Conflict Through Negotiation, Xi Tells Putin

President Xi Jinping of China spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, exchanging opinions on the present situation in Ukraine. Xi stated that China supports Russia and Ukraine in their efforts to resolve the conflict through discussion.

Xi informed Putin that China’s position on the Ukraine problem is based on the merits of the topic at hand, noting that the current situation in eastern Ukraine has changed radically, creating considerable worry in the international community.

The Chinese president urged all parties to forsake the Cold War mentality, respect and value each other’s legitimate security concerns, and work toward a balanced, effective, and long-term European security mechanism through communication and negotiation.

Xi emphasized China’s consistent position of respecting all states’ sovereignty and territorial integrity while adhering to the UN Charter’s goals and values.

China is willing to collaborate with all members of the international community to achieve common, comprehensive, cooperative, and long-term security, as well as defend the UN-centered international system and international order based on international law.

Putin, for his part, provided background information on the Ukraine crisis as well as Russia’s perspective on the commencement of a special military operation in eastern Ukraine.

The Russian president emphasized that the US and NATO have long neglected Russia’s legitimate security concerns, have repeatedly broken their promises, and have continued to push military deployments eastward, putting Russia’s strategic bottom line at risk.

He also informed Xi that the Russian side is prepared to hold high-level talks with Ukraine.

During their phone call, Xi thanked Putin once more for coming to China to attend the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics opening ceremony, and he congratulated Russian sportsmen on finishing second in the medal standings.

Putin complimented the Chinese people on the overall success of the Beijing Winter Olympics and the Chinese delegation’s remarkable performance.
