U.S protesters condemn police killing of unarmed blackman

People took to the streets of​ Minneapolis in Minnesota on Tuesday ​ to protest ​ the death of an unarmed black man who was killed on Monday ​ after being detained by police.

A released video showed George Floyd ​ lying face down in the street, gasping for air and groaning about not being able to breathe while a white officer knelt on his neck for several minutes.

Four Minneapolis police officers have been ​ fired over ​ his death but Hours after the officers’ dismissals were announced, thousands of protesters filled the streets.

The event was organized by a number of local activist groups, including the Minneapolis NAACP, Communities Against Police Brutality, and Black Lives Matter Twin Cities.

After a time of peaceful demonstration, the gathering took an unruly turn around dusk as police in riot gear fired tear gas and non-lethal bean-bag rounds into the crowds while protesters hurled water bottles and other projectiles.
